1. There was a lack of communication between management and shop floor employees, as management only issued orders and demands without inviting employees to meetings.
2. This caused conflicts between values and attitudes as employees felt underappreciated and management used complex memos that caused misunderstandings.
3. As a result, job satisfaction and performance decreased as employees experienced stress and withdrew from work due to the negative environment and counterproductive behaviors.

Bangladesh needs to identify the opportunities and the key weaknesses that the country faces and adopt appropriate measures. There are many ways of doing this analysis. One popular method is to list the Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats (SWOT) facing the economy and society at large. Although the SWOT analysis is more often applied to evaluate the competitive position of a company, this can also be applied to a country. In particular,SWOT analysis is forward looking; it is less for the past than for the future. The exercise identifies areas that need attention or might emerge as problem areas in future.

Subject:EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION SKILLS
Lesson : How to improve communication skills
Faculty Name: Saurabh Deshpande
In large and complex organisations, such as Universities, processes often evolve around our structures rather than being designed with a focus on understanding and meeting the needs of our end users. Loughborough University’s Change Team, established in 2013, works with colleagues across the organisation to review processes that cut across Schools and Professional Services and to improve the experience of our end users. Doing better for our end users often results in staff time savings which enable colleagues to focus their efforts on more value-add activities which better support the University’s strategic aims. In recognition of the success of a project looking at our employment and claims processes for bought-in University teaching, the Change Team and HR Team at Loughborough University received the following awards: • Times Higher Education Leadership and Management Award – Outstanding Strategic Planning Team • Midland HR Award – Most transformational HR/Payroll project Members of the Change Team will share Loughborough’s approach to process review and service improvement. An interactive activity, based on a real case study, will allow you to: walk in the shoes of someone learning how a process works in reality and not how Managers assume it is working; map the existing process effectively; analyse the process to identify failure demand, duplication and hand-offs which lead to long process times and end user dissatisfaction; and how to design out this waste to achieve a better outcome for end users and the organisation alike.
Being able to communicate effectively is perhaps the most important of all life skills. It is what enables us to pass information to other people, and to understand what is said to us. You only have to watch a baby listening intently to its mother and trying to repeat the sounds that she makes to understand how fundamental is the urge to communicate.

Toxic Employees in the Workplace: Hidden Costs and How to Spot ThemCornerstone OnDemand
Toxicity in any organization is contagious and quickly spreads to your good employees. What’s more, these employees are much more likely than the toxic staff members to seek alternative employment. After all, they are good at their job and can easily transfer to a company with a positive working environment.
If toxicity is destructive in the larger corporate environment, it is lethal in the smaller business. It is absolutely critical that employers focus their attention on avoiding toxic employees in the first place and, alternatively, do their best to identify and eradicate dangerous employee behavior quickly, before it has ripple effects on the bad behavior and voluntary departure of co-workers.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.
June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202
A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

4. WHAT CAUSED THIS?
In General :
Management and shop level employees were
not accustomed to have a direct
communication;
Management only issues orders and demands’
Management never invited shop level
employees to daily meetings, unless there was
a specific problem;
Management had separate washrooms,
separate lunchrooms, etc.
Communication was build using complex
memos, which leads to miss-understanding.
8. THE RESULTS OF THE NEW
APPROACH
Improvements in Scheduling of Jobs;
Efficiency in manufacturing;
Reduce of waste;
*the greatest contributor was the shop level
employee.
+ Calculation & Track Inventory
Better Planning and Forecasting;
Reduce the new order turnarounds.
9. JOHN’S REALLY
GOOD, WE SHOULD
PROMOTE HIM. IT
WOULD BE GOOD IF
HE RECEIVE THE NEWS
FROM YOU DIRECTLY.
THAT’S A GREAT
IDEA!
JOHN, I’LL SEND YOU
FOR TRAINING
SEMINARS.
AFTER ALL MY
EFFORTS AND WORK,
YOU GUYS SENDING
ME FOR TRAINING
SEMINARS?
SO, AM I NOT GOOD
ENOUGH FOR YOU?
10. PROBLEM IDENTIFICATION
1. Lack of communication between top level management
and employee.
George and John “cold war” make no direct communication between them
and every memo George made way too complex and too long
Top level management never include floor employee on board meeting, no
chance to give insight from floor side
2. There are big gap between each role especially between
management and floor employee, different social habit such
as manager only talks with manager (separate lunch room,
separate office, separate washroom)
3. Complacent attitude towards better communication
4. There are some employee that have negative attitudes
towards everything that happen in the office (harsh
language that create demoralizing between employee)
11. PROBLEM ANALYSIS
ANALYSIS :
VALUE CONFLICTS
ATTITUDE
MAJOR CORRELATES & CONSEQUENCES
OF JOB SATISFACTION
COUNTERPRODUCTIVE WORK BEHAVIOR
15. ATTITUDE
According to the nature of attitudes theory, if
someone has a positive/negative attitude about
something, it will influence his/her behavior.
Overall attitude toward someone or something
is a function of the combined influence of all
three components; affective, cognitive and
behavioral components.
16. I’m Upset
What? I’m
not good
enough??ATTITUDE
AFFECTIVE
COGNITIVE
BEHAVIORAL
Let’s talk
using
Memos
18. COUNTERPRODUCTIVE WORK
BEHAVIOR
John feels that George didn’t treat him well and
confront each other in majority of their conversation.
John became underperformed because of the negative
situation at office and his conflict to George. John
always sees negative things even for positive feedback.
Tony always swearing and offend other people at the
office by his language, mainly because he never see
thing positively. All things in the office he sees it
negatively.
Editor's Notes
The Aluminum Elements Corp. (AEC) is a manufacture company which most of its product are from aluminum. In this company, the employees were not accustomed to the management to talking to them, Management only issued order or made demands. It could be seen by the daily meeting which is held by the management, which is no one from the shop floor were invited to the meeting. Beside that, the management had separated the washrooms and lunchrooms, so there is a barrier between the management and shop floor employees.

It could be seen by the daily meeting which is held by the management, which is no one from the shop floor were invited to the meeting. Beside that, the management had separated the washrooms and lunchrooms, so there is a barrier between the management and shop floor employees.
And the shop floor employees felt that the management did not really feel they had anything to learn from them.
John, a worker on the aluminum slitter, had a number of unpleasant encounters with George, the vice president of AEC. There’s lack communication between John and Gorge, even George usually sent written memos to the floor to avoid a direct confrontation with John. Tony, a worker who worked at the machine next to John’s, feels that the office guys only cared about the schedules, not about the people on the shop floor.
New approach, being the bridge, creating more friendly athmosphere
A new manager of customer service group, sees that the main problem in this company is the lack of communication between the management and the shop floor employees, and he introduce new approach such as involving shop floor employees insight on board meeting through him, creating more friendly atmosphere between him and shop floor employees.
John & The Author
As a result of this approach, the employees motivated and showed initiatives on how to improve the scheduling of job, better ways to combine the slitting sizes and reducing waste. In fact, the greatest contributor is John.
The top management realize the contribution of John and offered him a promotion by giving him a management skills seminar. John receive the information about this training directly from George, but John get it wrong, he thought that his works is not appreciated so he must attend the training seminar.
Tony has intrapersonal conflict that makes him always complained even offend others by his language. This also create low morale between him and other employee
Interpersonal conflict between George and John, long term confrontation that lead to bad communication and no respect between them.
Individual-Organization value conflict, no direct communication between top level management and floor employee. This problem caused demoralization in floor employee because they feel top management only put pressure on them and not give them compliment.
As we can see in case Bridging the Two Worlds, John has predisposition to respond in unfavorable manner to his vice president, George. Anything George said to John, John sometimes misunderstanding with the words and have a negative thinking with that.
The affective component of John’s negative attitude can be seen by the attitude which is John was very upset, he looks like everything was just fine but from the looks of his body language, it seems like there’s something behind that he’s willing to talk.
The cognitive component can be seen by the John’s attitude which sometimes have a negative thinking toward George, for example, at the time when George decided to send John to management training seminar, instead John think that his ability is not good enough.
Last, the behavioral component can be seen by the bad relationship between John and George, which they always have a confrontation, that’s the reason why the message from George to John always deliver with memos.
These are only some of the important major correlates & consequences of Job Satisfaction :
Motivation
The employees feel they weren’t motivated at all, until the new manager comes in. Motivation should come from managers through various attempts to increase job satisfaction.
Job Involvement
When the new manager comes in, the employees had better chance in job involvement, which creates improvements to better planning and efficiency. Managers are encouraged to foster satisfying work environments in order to fuel employees job involvement.
Organizational Citizenship Behavior (OCB)
The OCB in the company has become weak because of the exclusivity. Employees won’t do anything beyond the call of duty. All they do is fulfill the manager demands. After the new manager arrives, though, the OCB went higher.
Withdrawal Cognitions
In the case we had the withdrawal of John. This is caused by the misunderstanding from George’s goodwill to promote John. John’s thoughts and feelings were caused by the accumulations of unpleasant encounters between them. It would be different if the author himself talks with John directly.
Perceived Stress
Some employees have stress issues that lead to viral infections. The example in this case is Tony, which use bad language towards others and offended most of the office staff. Managers should attempt to reduce the negative effects of stress by improving job satisfaction.
Job Performance
Managers can positively affect a variety of important organizational outcomes. This is what the author has done in his early employment months. By giving a more friendly managerial approach and being the “bridge” between the two worlds.
