IDENTIFYING HAZARDS
Dust These are particles resulting from the breaking up of solids. The smaller the particle the bigger the hazard.
Mist
Clouds of fine droplets or particles formed by spraying which can be water or oil based. Mists are formed by processes
that involve atomisation, and are often a mix of several hazardous particles.
Fume
Solid aerosols formed when metallic vapours condense on cooling and are often produced with processes involving hot
metal.
Vapour Gaseous state of substances that are liquids or solids at room temperature. A gaseous state is formed by evaporation.
Gas Are organic or inorganic compounds that become airborne and are able to diffuse or spread freely.

EN 149 : 2001 + A1 2009 is the Standard for filtering face piece
respirators for use against solid and non-volatile liquid particles.
Products are classified by filtering efficiency and maximum total
inward leakage performance (FFP1, FFP2, FFP3), also by usability
and clogging resistance.

Protection level of mask according to filtration ability of the filter
medium.

W Protection against unpleasant odours
D Optional test of EN149:2001 standard for clogging the Dolomite.

clogging for more respiratory comfort.
V The valve provides better comfort. Its flexible structure
facilitates mouth movement for easier talking and breathing.

2. PARTICLE FILTERS / DISPOSABLE MASKS
ARE DIVIDED INTO 3 CLASSES (EN 143):
FFP 1 respirators provide reliable protection against harmful
substances up to four times the threshold limit value (MAK*) and
are available with or without a valve.
FFP 2 respirators provide reliable protection against harmful
substances up to ten times the threshold limit value (MAK*, TRK**)
and are available with or without a valve.
FFP 3 respirators provide reliable protection against harmful
substances up to 30 times the threshold limit value (MAK*, TRK**)
and are only available with a valve.
* MAK = maximum concentration in the workplace
** TRK = technical standard concentration: the concentration of a hazardous material
that can still be managed by the latest technology. TRK values are applied to
carcinogenic materials for which there is no MAK value available.

FFP 1 respirators can be used in areas such as the food industry,
stonemasonry and cement work, construction and softwood
processing.
FFP 2 respirators can be used in areas such as mining, the metal
work industry, shipyards and wood processing.
FFP 3 Base metal manufacture, brick manufacture, craft work,
food, iron & steel, laboratories, metals cutting & casting, mining,
pharmaceutical, powdered additives, powdered chemicals, sawmills
& woodwork, textiles, underground civil engineering, welding.
OPTIONAL TESTS
R labelling: the mask has been tested for reusability and has the
required performance features for wearing during a second work shift.
D labelling: the mask has undergone additional dolomite dust testing
and therefore affords excellent breathability, even in extremely dusty
environments and during longer periods of use.
GAS PARTICLE FILTERS
The EN 141 standard defines the use of anti-gas filters according to the
type of gas to be filtered, classified by a letter and a colour code.
