  • 3. 3 Bots are one of the key mobility trends in 2016 Key events in the last six months include Twilio SIGNAL, Google I/O, Facebook F8, Microsoft Build and announcements from Telegram and LINE.
  • 4. 4 Bots have taken over headlines Despite the media hype 451 Research believes bots have tremendous potential for transforming the enterprise.
  • 5. 5 What are bots? For our purposes, we will refer to bots as services that perform tasks based on predefined rules and in some cases AI that users interact with via a chat interface.
  • 6. 6 AI and other technologies are coming together to enable 'smart' bots What we are seeing now is largely the result of advances in AI technologies such as natural language processing (NLP) and voice recognition that are coming together to enable 'smart' bots.
  • 7. 7 451 Research believes that the emergence of smart bots reflects limitations in the ways in which organizations leverage mobility to transform how they serve their customers, employees and partners.

Bots operational definition: Services that perform tasks based on predefined rules and in some cases artificial intelligence (AI) that users interact with via a chat interface. What we are seeing now is largely the result of advances in AI technologies such as natural language processing (NLP) and voice recognition that are coming together to enable 'smart' bots. We do not believe smart bots will replace mobile apps nor will enterprise mobility become bot-centric, but smart bots have the potential to enhance capabilities in mobile apps by enabling personalized, structured responses and automating services and business workflows. By integrating into business applications and providing a streamlined user interface, smart bots can address gaps that have stalled productivity gains in mobility deployments.
