The Metaverse is a collection of 3D virtual simulations or worlds. Here, users can access various activities and can create their very own avatars. Metaverse will act as an alternative digital world where people can socialize and collaborate on tasks, play games and do many other activities.
The infrastructure of the Metaverse needs to have a solid foundation before connecting multiple virtual spaces with one another. Metaverse needs to be decentralized to function properly.
Centralized Metaverse will be extremely limited where third parties can take control with no intention of fair play. This is where blockchain comes in handy. Blockchain is the perfect technology for Metaverse as it can offer it the decentralization it needs for the users.

Design Principles: The Philosophy of UXWhitney Hess
The visual principles of harmony, unity, contrast, emphasis, variety, balance, proportion, repetition, texture and movement (and others) are widely recognized and practiced, even when they aren’t formally articulated. But creating a good design doesn’t automatically mean creating a good experience.
In order for us to cultivate positive experiences for our users, we need to establish a set of guiding principles for experience design. Guiding principles are the broad philosophy or fundamental beliefs that steer an organization, team or individual’s decision making, irrespective of the project goals, constraints, or resources.
Whitney will share a universally-applicable set of experience design principles that we should all strive to follow, and will explore how you can create and use your own guiding principles to take your site or product to the next level.

Prompt engineering is a concept in artificial intelligence, particularly natural language processing. In prompt engineering, the description of the task that the AI is supposed to accomplish is embedded in the input, e.g. as a question, instead of it being explicitly given.

Games have been leveraging AI since the 1950s, when people built a rules-based AI engine that played tic-tac-toe. With technological advances over the years, AI has become increasingly popular and widely used in the gaming industry. The typical characteristics of games and game development makes them an ideal playground for practicing and implementing AI techniques, especially deep learning and reinforcement learning. Most games are well scoped; it is relatively easy to generate and use the data; and states/actions/rewards are relatively clear. In this talk, I will show a couple of use cases where ML/AI helps in-game development and enhances player experience. Examples include AI agents playing game and services that provide personalized experience to players.

Bots are the new big thing in Social Media and quickly changing the way we interact with services. These bots or chatbots are lightweight apps which live within messengers such as WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, WeChat, Kik, Viber, LINE, Telegram or other messaging apps.
The 2017 edition of David Pichsenmeister's annual Bot Trends report covers today's messaging growth and an in-depth look at the following:
1. Global Messaging Trends - Messengers have surpassed traditional Social Media and already one of the most used apps on Smartphones
2. Global Bot Trends - Distribution channels are shifting from Apps to lightweight apps built on top of existing platforms
3. Conversational Interface - Natural language and Voice is gaining more and more popularity through latest enhancements in AI and machine learning, as for example with Amazon Alexa, Siri or Google Home
4. Structured Input and Webviews - Predefined templates and micro websites giving developers the opportunity to build app like experiences on top of messaging apps
5. Canonical Interfaces - Existing usecases and channels will be transferred to streamlined and comprehensive experiences
6. Group Messaging - Adding bots to groups or interacting with them on the fly in existing conversations will open up completely new experiences for users
7. Human Supervision - Traditional customer care agents are transitioning into a new role, supervising chat bots
8. Bot Discovery - How bots will be discovered on different messaging networks

There are lots of frameworks for building chatbots, but those abstractions can obscure understanding and hinder application development. In this talk, we will cover building chatbots from the ground up in Python. This can be done with either classic NLP or deep learning. We will cover both approaches, but this talk will focus on how one can build a chatbot using spaCy, pattern matching, and context-free grammars.

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.
