In the 1920s, a causeway was built across the estuary that blocked tidal flows, causing a buildup of sediments and nutrients. This led to algae blooms, higher water temperatures, and the death of seagrass beds. In 2008, a double-cell box culvert was installed in the causeway to restore tidal exchange and fish passage. This $420,000 project has successfully improved conditions in the estuary by reducing nutrients and temperatures and allowing the recovery of seagrass and fish populations.

Construction and farming cause sediment and nutrient runoff that clouds the water and blocks sunlight SAV needs to survive. Oyster dredging physically damages SAV habitats. These effects can be reduced by replanting SAV, limiting construction and nutrient runoff, and restricting oyster dredging.

Initial estimates for restoration costs were over $1 million but the final cost was $271,473, split between the county and a conservation organization. The beach is now part of a county park open by reservation.

This report analyzes the historical landscape and ecology of Coyote Creek watershed before intensive human modification to understand how the area has changed and to identify opportunities for restoration. The report finds that historically the watershed contained a diverse mosaic of habitats including native grasslands, oak savanna, wet meadows, and freshwater wetlands. However, drainage intensification, agriculture, and development have significantly altered the watershed's hydrology and habitats. Understanding these historical conditions provides a basis for more appropriate restoration goals that consider recovering locally-adapted habitat types and restoring natural watershed functions.

1) The village of Fort Plain, New York prospered greatly after the opening of the Erie Canal in 1825, as the canal brought commerce and industry to settlements along its banks.
2) The original Erie Canal was 363 miles long and included 83 locks to allow boats to travel between the Hudson River and Lake Erie, rising 568 feet in elevation.
3) A library in Fort Plain has taken a particular interest in the history of the Erie Canal, as the village was located on the canal and relied on it for trade and transportation until the 1950s.
SITE ANALYSIS IN PUBLISHER
This site analysis report summarizes the key features of a plot of land located on Chaudière Island in Ottawa, Canada. It discusses the site's history from indigenous settlement to lumber and pulp mills. The Aboriginal Algonquin tribe originally inhabited the area, and Samuel de Champlain first encountered them in 1603. This document provides information about the Eugene Field Park Aquatic Ecosystem Restoration Program that took place from 2011-2016. The project involved restoring a 10-acre urban park and stream area by removing invasive plants and filling, constructing rock check dams in the river, excavating 20,000 cubic yards of fill to restore historic wetland depressions, and planting over 100 native plant species. Monitoring showed the restored areas became colonized by muskrats and plant growth was successful except along the river bank, demonstrating progress towards restoring the park's natural aquatic ecosystem.

Flooding In Boscastle
The village of Boscastle in Cornwall, UK suffered severe flooding in August 2004 when 89mm of rain fell in one hour. The heavy rainfall combined with the steep, narrow valleys and impermeable soil meant water quickly overwhelmed the narrow river channels running through the village. Over 150 people had to be rescued by helicopter and many homes and businesses were damaged by the floodwaters.

The watercolor paintings of artist Francis Quirk. This is a collection of all of the watercolor images we could find. Francis J. Quirk is a nationally recognized artist with artworks in museums, universities, civic buildings and embassies around the world. He is perhaps the only painter with a portrait and self-portrait in the National Portrait Gallery. Quirk paintings can be found at the Canton Museum of Art, The Snite Museum of Art at the University of Notre Dame, Colby College, Ursinus College and Lehigh University.
As a Professor and Curator at Lehigh University, he was instrumental in expanding their significant art collection and Museum. That position was a platform for him to support and shine a spotlight on the arts in Pennsylvania in which he organized many exhibitions of important artists each year.
