The history
Bonfire nights in the UK are traditional culture. Every person celebrates a bonfire night.
In 1605 there was a man called Guy Fawkes. He and his friends did not like King James. They
planned to blow up the House of Parliament in London in November of the year. They plan this
explosion on the 5th of November. The plan became known as the “Gunpowder Plot” and their
team leader was named Guy Fawkes. They put 36 barrels of gunpowder in the Houses
Parlament and waited for the king to arrive. But nothing happened, because the soldier found
Guy Fawkes and took him away. Now, British people celebrate this. They often burn a figure of
Guy Fawkes on fire. People watch the bonfire. But it’s unclear what Fawkes would have made
of this, because in seeking to blow up parliament., Their fellow plotter was merely hoping to
impose a different kind of establishment.

of fireworks can be a dangerous pyrotechnic event. In the Caribbean, laws banning fireworks
and explosions have muted events. The bonfire night tradition has been criticized for its
environmental impact. A 1994 study conducted in Oxford, England, found that carbon dioxide
and furan concentrations in the air increased fourfold after celebrating a bonfire night. In 2005,
Newfoundland hosted a bonfire night to encourage the provincial minister of environment and
conservation to remind the general public of their responsibility to be safe and protect the
environment.
