In some instances Dr. Steenblock may refer a ARMD patient to be treated with cord blood stem cells outside the US (It is illegal for doctors to use cord blood stem cells to treat CP in the US.) Usually this is because both bone marrow & cord blood stem cells are needed to achieve the greatest degree of healing & restoration possible.

23. Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy When indicated Dr. Steenblock prescribes a course of HBOT. This is oxygen given under pressure in a HBO chamber. This treatment gets oxygen into parts of the body including the brain which reverses ischemia (blood flow is compromised) and hypoxia (lack of oxygen).

25. HBO and Stem Cells Hyperbaric oxygen releases stem cells from the bone marrow into the circulation. Hyperbaric oxygen treatments enhance the growth of the stem cells and their ability to migrate into damaged tissues. HBOT is typically given daily before and after stem cell treatments.

Intravenous (IV) Treatments In some instances Dr. Steenblock determines that certain growth factors, amino acids, vitamins, minerals or other compounds will help encourage rapid healing of ARMD either before or following a stem cell treatment. Enhanced External Counterpulsation (EECP) EECP is simple in concept but profound in its effects: A computer driven machine inflates large cuffs around the patient ’s legs & waist whenever the heart relaxes. This pushes blood back through arteries opening them up. This increases blood & oxygen flow throughout the body including the eyes. Lack of both characterizes ARMD.

28. Periodic Acceleration Therapy In PAT patients lying prone on a motorized platform get a moderate cardiovascular work-out from a gentle back-and-forth motion. This creates a very mild stress on blood vessels that gets them busy producing Nitric Oxide (NO), a chemical that increases blood flow to organs and tissues body wide.
