WHAT IS BLUETOOTH?
• Bluetooth is a wireless technology used to
transfer data between different electronic
devices.
• The distance of data transmission is small in
comparison to other modes of wireless
communication.
3
BLUETOOTH FOUNDER
• The Bluetooth Specification was
developed as a cable replacement in
1994 by Jaap Haartsen and Sven
Mattisson, who were working for
Ericsson in Lund, Sweden.
• The company that developed the idea was a
development branch of LM Ericsson (now
merged with Sony to become SonyEricsson).
• They developed the idea in the early 90's,
and contacted a number of companies in
1995.
VERSIONS OF BLUETOOTH
• Bluetooth version 1.1 or 1.2, which offers such
basic features as voice dialing, call mute, and last-
number redial.
• Bluetooth 2.0 brought higher connection speeds
(as much as three times faster, in some cases),
improved performance, and less power
consumption.
• Most recent is the new Bluetooth 4.0 spec which
major feature is Bluetooth Low Energy, essentially
strong power management skills.

6
Bluetooth Version Max Rate
Bluetooth V1.0 and V1.0B 768kbps
Bluetooth V1.1 768kbps
Bluetooth V1.2 1Mbps
Bluetooth V2.0(and V2.1) and EDR(Enhanced Data Rate) 3Mbps
Bluetooth V3.0+HS(High Speed) 24Mbps
Bluetooth Smart(V4.0 and V4.1) 24Mbps
FEATURES OF BLUETOOTH
• The key features of Bluetooth technology:
• Less complication
• Less power consumption
• Available at cheaper rates
• Robustness
7
APPLICATIONS OF BLUETOOTH
• 1. Wireless networking between mobiles and
laptops.
8
APPLICATIONS OF BLUETOOTH
• 2. Peripherals such as mouse, keyboards, and
printers.
9
APPLICATIONS OF BLUETOOTH
• 3. Cell phones with
Bluetooth technology
have been sold in large
numbers.
• The standard also
includes the support for
more powerful and
longer range devices.
10
APPLICATIONS OF BLUETOOTH
• 4. The transfer of files,
images and MP3,
between mobile
phones.
• 5. Certain MP3 players
and digital cameras to
transfer files to and
from computers.
11
APPLICATIONS OF BLUETOOTH
• 6. Bluetooth technology headsets for smart
phones and cell phones.
12
APPLICATIONS OF BLUETOOTH
• 7. Data logging
equipment that
transmits data to a
computer via Bluetooth
technology.
13
ADVANTAGES OF BLUETOOTH
• Bluetooth does not require a clear line of sight
between the synced devices.
• This means that the devices need not be
facing each other.
• And it is also possible to carry out transfers
when both the devices are in separate rooms.
• The fact that this technology requires no
cables and wires is something that has made it
so popular.
14
ADVANTAGES OF BLUETOOTH
• The maximum range that it offers is 100 meters, but
this range is not the same for all similar connections.
• It depends on the nature of the devices and the
version that they operate upon.
• One major advantage is its simplicity of use.
• Anyone can figure out how to set up a connection and
sync two devices with ease. Moreover.
• The technology is completely free to use and requires
no charges to be paid to any service provider.
15
DISADVANTAGES OF BLUETOOTH
16
• Though the transfer speeds are impressive at
around 1 Mbps, certain other technologies like
Infrared can offer speeds up to 4 Mbps.
• This is an area that can be improved on in the
near future.
