INTRODUCTION
 Human brain, the most valuable creation of God. The human is
called intelligent because of the brain. But we loss the knowledge of
a brain when the body is destroyed after the death .
 “BLUE BRAIN”- The name of the world’s first virtual brain. That
means a machine that can function as human brain.
 That knowledge might have been used for the development of the
human society.
 Is it possible to create human brain ?
 The IBM is now developing a virtual brain known as the BLUE BRAIN.
 It would be the worlds first virtual brain.
 Within 30 years, we will be able to scan ourselves into the computers.
 “Blue brain” –The name of the world’s first virtual brain. That means a
machine that can function as human brain.
 Today ,scientists are in research to create an artificial brain that can think,
response, take decision, and keep anything in memory.
 The main aim is to upload human brain into machine. So that virtual brain
can think, take decision without any effort.
 After the death of the body, the virtual brain will act as the human brain .
 So, even after the death of a person we will not loose the knowledge,
intelligence.
WHAT IS Blue brain?
WHAT IS VIRTUAL BRAIN?
 A machine that can function as brain
 It can take decision.
 It can think.
 It can response.
 It can keep things in memory.
 To upload contents of the natural brain into it .
 To keep the intelligence , knowledge and skill of any person forever .
 To remember things without any effort.
Uploading Human Brain
 The uploading is possible by the use of
small robots known as the nanobots.
 These robots are small enough to
travel through out our circulatory
system.
 Traveling into the spine and brain,
they will be able to monitor the activity
and structure of our central nervous
system.
 They will be able to provide an interface
with computer while we still reside in our
biological form .
 Nanobots could also carefully scan the structure of our brain
providing a complete readout of the connection.
 This information, when entered into a computer, could then
continue to function as us.
 Thus the data stored in the entire brain will be uploaded into the
computer.
STEP TO BUILD VIRTUAL
BRAIN
DATA ACQUISITION
 In Data Acquisition, where by using neurolucida software package which
runs on windows workstation, we reconstruct the Neuronal 3D
morphologies by taking the brain slices from the living being.
 we need to study different types of neurons and catalogue them. It
involves taking brain slices and placing them under a microscope,
measuring the shape and electrical activity of individual neurons.
 Form, function and positioning of neurons are obtained by translating
these observations into mathematical algorithms.
 By the help of these algorithms, biologically realistic virtual neurons
ready for simulation are generated.
DATA ACQUISITION
BRAIN SIMULATION
BRAIN SIMULATION
Natural Brain
 Input
Through natural neurons.
 Interpretation
By different states of the
neurons in the brain.
 Processing
Through arithmetic and
logical calculations.
Virtual Brain
 Input
Through the silicon chip or
artificial neurons.
 Interpretation
By a set of bits in the set of
register.
 Processing
Through arithmetic and
logical calculation and
artificial intelligence.
Natural Brain
 Memory
Through permanent states of
neurons.
 Output
Through natural neurons.
Virtual Brain
 Memory
Through secondary memory.
 Output
Through silicon chip must be
designed in way that the
artificial neuron.
VISUALIZATION OF RESULTS
 RTNeuron is the primary application used by the BBP for visualization
of neural simulations.
 It is written in C++ and OpenGL.
 The animations can be stopped, started and zoomed, thus letting
resarchers interact with the model.
Why do we need Blue Brain?
To remember things without any effort,
both long term and short term.
To upload the contents of the natural brain
on to it.
For preventing loss of volatile memory at
the old age.
To keep the intelligence, knowledge and
skill of any person forever.
Research work
 The project Blue was started on May 2002 by Henry Markam
in Lusanne at EPFL, Switzerland.
 IBM, in partnership with scientists at Switzerland’s Ecole
Polytechnique Federal De Lausanne’s(EPFL), Brain and Mind
Institute will begin simulating the brain’s biological systems.
 "By 2047, almost all information will be in cyberspace
including all knowledge and creative works, said one of the
project’s leaders, Gordon Bell.
Hardware and software
requirements
 Memory with a very large storing capacity(256MB to
512MB memory per processor).
 Processor with a very high processing power.
 A program to convert the electrical impulses from the brain to
input signal , which is to be received by the computer and vice versa.
 Linux and C++ software.
 100 kilowatts power consumptions.
 Very powerful Nanobots to act as the interface between the
natural brain and computer.
Blue brain storage racks
ADVANTAGES
 Remembering things without any effort.
 Making decision without the presence of a person.
 Using intelligence of a person after the death .
 Understanding the activities of animals .
 Help in understanding psychological disorders.
DISADVANTAGES
 We become dependent upon the computer .
 Others may use technical knowledge against us.
 Social Threats may use this against society.
 Another fear is found with respect to human cloning.
 A very costly procedure of regaining the memory back.
Conclusion
 We will be able to transfer ourselves into computers at some
point.
 It will bring both benefits and harm to human society .
 Eventually aim of applying terrific computer power to the
simulation of an entire brain.
 Very soon this technology will be highly accepted whole over
the world.

  • 21. DISADVANTAGES  We become dependent upon the computer .  Others may use technical knowledge against us.  Social Threats may use this against society.  Another fear is found with respect to human cloning.  A very costly procedure of regaining the memory back.
  • 22. Conclusion  We will be able to transfer ourselves into computers at some point.  It will bring both benefits and harm to human society .  Eventually aim of applying terrific computer power to the simulation of an entire brain.  Very soon this technology will be highly accepted whole over the world.
