The document discusses how technology is rapidly disrupting various industries through automation and artificial intelligence. It provides examples of how robotics and AI are replacing human jobs in manufacturing, transportation, agriculture, customer service, and medical diagnosis. Advances in machine learning and computer vision are enabling augmented reality applications that improve workforce training and collaboration. The widespread adoption of these technologies could significantly transform the future of work by eliminating millions of jobs currently performed by humans.
15 Ways to Increase Energy Efficiency in Your Facility Transcendent
The document discusses how proper maintenance of HVAC systems through the use of an EAM/CMMS can reduce energy consumption by 10-20% according to best practices. Specific maintenance activities that can save energy include maintaining refrigerant levels (up to 20% savings), repairing economizer actuators (14-40% savings), and adjusting refrigerant charge (5-11% savings). For hotels, commissioning can save 10-15% of energy costs for a 100,000 square foot hotel, equivalent to $20,000 annually.
The document outlines various statistics about the costs of paper-based document management systems. It states that filing costs average $20 per document, each four-drawer filing cabinet costs $1,500 per year to maintain and holds 10,000-12,000 documents, and every 12 filing cabinets requires an additional employee. It also notes that paper in the average business grows by 22% each year and more than 70% of businesses would fail within 3 weeks of a catastrophic loss of paper records.
How Many Engineers Does it Take to Change a Lightbulb?Transcendent
This document discusses how switching to LED lighting can significantly reduce energy and maintenance costs for commercial businesses and facilities like hotels. It notes that commercial properties on average spend $2.29 per square foot annually on energy, with lighting accounting for 38% of electricity usage. LED bulbs last 50,000 hours on average compared to 1,000 hours for incandescent, and need replacing only once where conventional bulbs need replacing 50 times. This large reduction in replacement costs and labor can offset the higher upfront costs of LEDs and result in 20-50% savings on electric bills and tens of thousands in maintenance savings annually for large properties.

It argues that most corporate memory currently exists on paper, but a mobile solution allows information to always be available to engineers. Mobility can also help ensure proper lockout tagout procedures are followed for safety and reduce liability risks. Using mobile apps allows engineers to accurately capture data in the field through features like cameras and signatures, rather than transcribing paper processes. The document concludes that mobile technologies have advanced significantly in recent years, making it more affordable and effective to equip engineers with consumer mobile devices.
This document presents statistics from various sources about potential cost savings from preventative maintenance practices like HVAC maintenance, commissioning, and document management systems. It claims companies can save 12-18% on maintenance costs using preventative vs reactive approaches. Facilities that properly maintain HVAC can use 15-20% less energy. Commissioning a 100,000 square foot hotel can lower energy costs by 10-15% or $20,000 annually. Eighty percent of employees waste 30 minutes per day finding information.

It identifies 5 critical points of failure: 1) poorly defined project scope, 2) not prioritizing the most impactful parts of the system, 3) unresponsive technical support, 4) lack of benchmarks, and 5) ineffective training. It stresses the importance of managing expectations, including customer objectives, required customization, and responsibilities of each party. Clear expectations help address many potential points of failure.
Part I - Why-asset-management-system-implementations-fail[1]Transcendent
The document discusses why asset management system implementations often fail. It describes a case where Marin County, CA spent $30 million on an ERP system but ultimately abandoned it after consultants said it wasn't worth fixing problems. The root cause of failure, according to the document, is that sales overpromise on what software can deliver versus customer expectations. Setting proper expectations between the customer, vendor, and consultants is identified as key to implementation success.

We know we want to create products which our customers find to be valuable. Whether we label it as customer-centric or product-led depends on how long we've been doing product management. There are three challenges we face when doing this. The obvious challenge is figuring out what our users need; the non-obvious challenges are in creating a shared understanding of those needs and in sensing if what we're doing is meeting those needs.
In this webinar, we won't focus on the research methods for discovering user-needs. We will focus on synthesis of the needs we discover, communication and alignment tools, and how we operationalize addressing those needs.
Industry expert Scott Sehlhorst will:
