Optimizing Your Website for Search EnginesTony Sattler
SEO is hard. It’s a sub-section of the digital industry that has never found common ground. It's nearly impossible to tell who's good at it and who's not.
Fortunately, you can lay a foundation for good organic search traffic by implementing best practices on your own website.
Why Everyone Should be an Expert of 301 RedirectsRebecca Gill
A 301 redirect is a status code that tells search engines that a page or post has permanently moved to a new location. This process asks the search engine to transfer existing SEO value and redirect traffic.
It is a valuable part of modern SEO and every marketer or website owner should be aware of what it is, why it helps SEO, and how it should be used.
In this presentation, we cover all of those topics and look at some fun examples of 301 redirects in the wild.

Killer Keywords: How to Write Content for Both Humans and Search Engines - Wo...Pam Ann Marketing
Your website content has two audiences: Human readers and search engines. Writing content that appeals to both is something that all writers and website owners should know how to do. Whether you’re a professional copywriter or a small business owner who writes for your own website, knowing how to write content that satisfies both of these audiences is an essential (and profitable!) skill. This presentation will teach you exactly how to do that, using modern-day approaches to semantic and contextual keyword optimization.
We need to reorient our thinking about internet marketing, and more specifically, search engine optimization. Help Google find the best content to solve a user’s problem and you’ll win at SEO.
What is the SEO,and why does it matter to your business website?Chittaranjan Infotech
Search Engine Optimization ( SEO) refers to the process used in sites such as Google,Yahoo, or Bing to improve the location of a website on search engine results pages ( SERPs). Developing a company SEO strategy will help drive customer traffic to your website, as well as increase your sales and revenue. To get you started on the development of your SEO strategy, here's a little history to understand how search engines like Google use metrics to rank website placements for organic searches.
This is a sample of the website audit reports that my company, S3 Optimization provides. Because of all the recent changes within Google, we're offering these for free (a $500 value) to business owners who are serious about their rankings and being compliant with Google.
We're thinking about SEO in the grow way, and we've got the wrong process and tooling in place. Everything should be geared towards the continuous aspect of SEO.
Change the way your proceses and tooling, and change the way you think about SEO and you'll get better overview, better Quality Assurance which all in turn leads to sustainable growth of your organic traffic.

Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
Speakers:
Bob Boule
Robert Boule is a technology enthusiast with PASSION for technology and making things work along with a knack for helping others understand how things work. He comes with around 20 years of solution engineering experience in application security, software continuous delivery, and SaaS platforms. He is known for his dynamic presentations in CI/CD and application security integrated in software delivery lifecycle.
Gopinath Rebala
Gopinath Rebala is the CTO of OpsMx, where he has overall responsibility for the machine learning and data processing architectures for Secure Software Delivery. Gopi also has a strong connection with our customers, leading design and architecture for strategic implementations. Gopi is a frequent speaker and well-known leader in continuous delivery and integrating security into software delivery.

Search and Society: Reimagining Information Access for Radical FuturesBhaskar Mitra
The field of Information retrieval (IR) is currently undergoing a transformative shift, at least partly due to the emerging applications of generative AI to information access. In this talk, we will deliberate on the sociotechnical implications of generative AI for information access. We will argue that there is both a critical necessity and an exciting opportunity for the IR community to re-center our research agendas on societal needs while dismantling the artificial separation between the work on fairness, accountability, transparency, and ethics in IR and the rest of IR research. Instead of adopting a reactionary strategy of trying to mitigate potential social harms from emerging technologies, the community should aim to proactively set the research agenda for the kinds of systems we should build inspired by diverse explicitly stated sociotechnical imaginaries. The sociotechnical imaginaries that underpin the design and development of information access technologies needs to be explicitly articulated, and we need to develop theories of change in context of these diverse perspectives. Our guiding future imaginaries must be informed by other academic fields, such as democratic theory and critical theory, and should be co-developed with social science scholars, legal scholars, civil rights and social justice activists, and artists, among others.
PHP Frameworks: I want to break free (IPC Berlin 2024)Ralf Eggert
In this presentation, we examine the challenges and limitations of relying too heavily on PHP frameworks in web development. We discuss the history of PHP and its frameworks to understand how this dependence has evolved. The focus will be on providing concrete tips and strategies to reduce reliance on these frameworks, based on real-world examples and practical considerations. The goal is to equip developers with the skills and knowledge to create more flexible and future-proof web applications. We'll explore the importance of maintaining autonomy in a rapidly changing tech landscape and how to make informed decisions in PHP development.
This talk is aimed at encouraging a more independent approach to using PHP frameworks, moving towards a more flexible and future-proof approach to PHP development.

1. SEO Webinar - With Neil Palmer of IM3.co.uk
In Partnership with Huddlebuy
How do I improve my website traffic with SEO?
Covering:
What is SEO?
Why is SEO Important?
Painting the Right Picture
Best ways to implement SEO
Industry Secrets
Impact on your website design
2. What is Search Engine Optimisation?
SEO is the term used for optimising your rankings within the organic search
engine results - natural / non-paid
In the industry we call these SERP’s – Search Engine Results Pages
Most companies focus on rankings with Google
In the UK Google provide about 9 out of every 10 searches
SEO is ultimately about: ‘Improving your visibility on the Internet’
This is achieved by following ethical steps to improve website relevance
3. Why is it so important to be ranked
in the top positions?
Distribution
58.4 % of
clicks – top 3
72.4% top 5
89% 1st page
4. SEO - Painting a Picture For the Search Robots
Google includes over 600 ranking factors within it’s main algorithm
About 10 of these factors account for 95% of ranking considerations
Search engines want to see that you are an ‘authority’ on a particular theme
Diluting a theme makes it harder to achieve great rankings
Ranking algorithms often change - it’s important you keep up to date
Industry blogs and forums have RSS feeds which you should subscribe to
Good examples are: Google Webmaster Blog, Matt Cutts Blog (Top Google SEO
Guy), Search Engine Land, Search Engine Roundtable, Web Pro News
5. Basics of a ‘SEO Campaign’
Keyword research
•Use a research tool such as Google Keyword Checker
•Difficult generic phrases can take 9-12 months minimum to get top rankings
•Long-tail phrases (more words) are easier but have less searches
•Find phrases which are highly relevant to your products and services
•Use a mix of a few difficult phrases and some long tail phrases
•Try to start with just a few then add more when you are successful
•Always remember: search engines want to see a theme – don’t diversity too much
Meta Data
•Have a structured plan for which pages focus on your search phrases
•Try to only target 2-3 phrases per page
•If you don’t have a page to use then create one
•These landing pages don’t have to be part of the website navigation
6. Basics of a ‘SEO Campaign’ - Continued
Onsite keywords
•Don’t fill your site with repeated words as this is considered ‘spam’
•Mention them more than other phrases
•Use them in your navigation wherever possible
Link building
•Spend at least three quarters of your SEO time link building
•Contact as many sites as possible with related content who may link to you
•Submit articles to ‘article submission’ websites and generate free back-links
•Make sure to use all your keywords when back-linking
•Link to internal pages as well as your homepage – stick to the structure you set-up
•Submit press release online for brand awareness and back-links at the same time
•Internal linking is also very important
•Link words and phrases from within your website content to other pages
•Always use varying keywords within the anchor text
7. Industry Secrets a SEO Company Won’t Tell You
Link building is almost everything needed to be successful
Backlinks are the indicator - link:www.im3.co.uk
PageRank doesn’t matter
Meta keywords are not considered by Google
Links from theme related websites are ranked at least 10 times higher than
random links
Duplicate content will penalise or even block your rankings
8. The Impact of SEO on Your Website Visitors
Whilst optimising a website it’s important to consider on-page factors
Conversion rates – always have a clear path to checkout or contact
The ‘call to action’ is the vital part of converting your traffic
Articles and product descriptions can include this ‘call to action’ numerous
times. Make sure people are consistently prompted to buy or contact you
Don’t hide content away as Google knows where the text is displayed
Stick to ethical methods of adding content. Quality and engaging copy is the
only way to impress the search engines and your visitors
9. Top Tips for On-going Success
Don’t use duplicated content for product or service descriptions
Set-up a Google Webmaster Tools account to check for errors
List yourself on all the popular directories such as Dmoz and Business Directories
Don’t have duplicate meta data on your pages – check this with Webmaster Tools
Blog once or twice a week about industry news or products
Remember to link content on your website with relevant anchor text
Update old pages – this is a ranking factor and dormant pages rank lower
Link build for a minimum of 5 hours per week
10. Thanks for your time and good luck with your
rankings!
