What is a Blog?
(National Centre for Technology in Education, 2008)
 Web-based log is the long way to express blog. It is also known
as weblogs.
 It is a webpage where it is easy to access.
 Posts are organized chronologically in reverse.
 It is a public site and it can be created in a free way. .
 The blog can have an author or can have a group of authors.
 It is a place where readers and authors can interact.
 It offers the opportunity for readers comments.
Common elements in Blogs
 COMMENTS
 LINKS
 INVERSE LINKS
 TEXT, PHOTOS AND VIDEOS
Optionally, web users can comment on any topic and possible debates can
center around some opinions or points of view about the same issue.
Multiple links can be included to access other websites (possibly other bogs)
to complement a topic with further information about a certain topic.
In some cases, reverse links are available to make trackback possible, that
is, finding out if an user has linked a particular entry from our blog.
Different types of texts, images and video cilps are added as entries to
complement any topic and generate discussion.

Implications of blogs
in the educational field
 It can be used by teachers to create a class, provide information
to students such as: documents and an archive of links.
 It is a tool that leads to collaborative group works and
discussions.
 It stimulates learners to develop critical thinking when they read
and write about any topic.
It is a place where students receive feedback in order to improve
their work.

Advantages
Contribution to students’ writing, information searching and
literature review skills
 Their easy features to use, and convenience for submitting
assignments electronically
 The students writing skills in terms of organization,
paraphrasing , and referencing or citation

Disadvantages
 Limited opportunities that students have
to access the Internet outside the campus.
 Blogs are not sufficient to develop more
sophisticated web sites, and some other
programs (e.g. Flash, Dreamweaver) are
needed to add more advanced
applications such as animation and
interactivity.

  • 2. What is a Blog? (National Centre for Technology in Education, 2008)  Web-based log is the long way to express blog. It is also known as weblogs.  It is a webpage where it is easy to access.  Posts are organized chronologically in reverse.  It is a public site and it can be created in a free way. .  The blog can have an author or can have a group of authors.  It is a place where readers and authors can interact.  It offers the opportunity for readers comments.
  • 3. Common elements in Blogs  COMMENTS  LINKS  INVERSE LINKS  TEXT, PHOTOS AND VIDEOS Optionally, web users can comment on any topic and possible debates can center around some opinions or points of view about the same issue. Multiple links can be included to access other websites (possibly other bogs) to complement a topic with further information about a certain topic. In some cases, reverse links are available to make trackback possible, that is, finding out if an user has linked a particular entry from our blog. Different types of texts, images and video cilps are added as entries to complement any topic and generate discussion. (Wikipedia)

Implications of blogs in the educational field  It can be used by teachers to create a class, provide information to students such as: documents and an archive of links.  It is a tool that leads to collaborative group works and discussions.  It stimulates learners to develop critical thinking when they read and write about any topic. It is a place where students receive feedback in order to improve their work. Advantages Contribution to students’ writing, information searching and literature review skills  Their easy features to use, and convenience for submitting assignments electronically  The students writing skills in terms of organization, paraphrasing , and referencing or citation (Australasian Journal of Educational Technology,2008)
  • 6. Disadvantages  Limited opportunities that students have to access the Internet outside the campus.  Blogs are not sufficient to develop more sophisticated web sites, and some other programs (e.g. Flash, Dreamweaver) are needed to add more advanced applications such as animation and interactivity.
