Psychological Conditions Of Personal Engagement And...
Introduction The term employee engagement was initially published in the article
psychological conditions of personal engagement and disengagement at work
(William. A. Kahn, 1990,).Employee engagement is an individual s own ability and
their desires to work hard with best performance for the organization. It is kind of
commitment between employees and organization and also a psychological
connection of employee towards the organization rather than physical. Generally,
there are three aspects of employees to consider their involvement such as Individuals
own perception ,feelings and their efforts to achieve organizational goals while
maintaining healthy relation with organization and customers.(cook,sarah,2008,pg3)
The success of organization depends upon the engagement of their employees and
their awareness regarding their duty, role and output of work that perceives the
organization ahead (Anitha J, 2014) Many researchers have defined employee
engagement in their own words but Shane and lattimore, 2013, pg138) believes that
it is a person s innate feelings, psychological thinking, intellectual abilities and their
motivational efforts to achieve the job oriented goals. Employee engagement is a
kind of specific environmental condition in which an individual feel totally indulge
in work and consider that work meaningful, manageable and be success full for
future. The motive of writing this essay is to identify and discuss the strategies to
solve the problems of
Why Is Bach Important
If we are to evaluate Bach s significance as a tutor, should we then assess the
success of his students? Bach had taught numerous pupils during his life,
particularly since c. 1706/7, where most primary sources are dated from. Johann
Casper Vogler was one of Bach s successful students who became a nationally
known organist and won an exclusive examination performance in the Markt
Kirche at Hanover. In 1721 he moved to take Bach s former post as Organist for the
Weimar Court. Vogler, previously known as Anonymous 18 , is of significance
today through his hand copies of Bach s works. His copy of Bach s Prelude and
Fughetta in C Major, BWV 870a, is of particular influence, being highly regarded
within performance study practices for having the fingerings written out. It is seen
that Bach s teaching methods went beyond the scope of influencing his direct pupils.
Johann Tobias Krebs was another of Bach s acclaimed students who in 1721 accepted
the post as Organist at Buttelstedt. Here he was expected to play the organ of
Michaeliskirche and instruct at the school. Although J. T. Krebs remained at
Buttelstedt for the rest of his life, he is mostly acknowledged as being the father of
Johann Ludwig Krebs, also a student of Bach. Johann Ludwig Krebs became to be
considered comparable to Bach; continuing the genius particularly through his
keyboard technique and counterpoint. The names of some other notable pupils of
Bach include Johann Martin Schubart, who in 1717 succeeded Bach at his organist
post in Weimar. Another student was Johann Schneider who became organist of St.

Great Expectations Social Commentary Essay
Title That s just what happens when you re rich and you don t have a job, you get
crazy. This line, spoken by Zoey Murphy in Dear Evan Hansen, could not have fit
the ideas stated in Great Expectations any better. One of the major ideas conveyed
consistently throughout Great Expectations is of never being satisfied, and the
constant desire for wealth and fame. Also indirectly relayed through the novel very
often is Charles Dicken s social commentary. He looks down upon the desire for
wealth and fame, and this is disguised through his descriptions of the middle class s
goal of becoming high class, and high class mannerisms. This can also be connected
to the 21st century. One of Dicken s main points on social commentary has to do with

One great example of this is the way Mrs. Pocket handles her baby. Usually the
nurses or her other daughter Jane take care of the baby, so when Mrs. Pocket takes
care of the baby, it is humorous to the reader. When society first sees her handle the
baby, Mrs. Pocket took it the other way, and got its head upon the table; which was
announced to all resent by a prodigious concussion (Dickens 179). It is clear that
Mrs. Pocket doesn t know how to care for her baby, and while laughable, this is
also a very sad situation. It was her baby that she gave birth to, and she doesn t
even know how to hold it! Dickens is clearly making fun of the higher class and
how heavily they rely on hired help to take care of their children. This is seen again
later in the chapter. At this point, she is helpless in her attempts of taking care of
the baby. Dickens writes, Into Mrs. Pocket s lap, and gave it the nutcrackers to
play with...forgetting all about the baby on her lap: who did most appalling things
with the nutcrackers (Dickens 179 180). This is an obvious lack of parental
nurturing in the Pocket home, and this is an effect of their wealth and heavy
reliance on servants. Dickens makes another point against the upper class when he
shows Pip s lack of control after receiving his sum. Dickens writes, We spent as
much money as we could, and got as little for it as people could make up their
minds to give us (Dickens 256). Pip is clearly in panic when he receives such a
large sum of money. Due to this, he loses control and does what he has always
wished to do: spend it all! He doesn t know anything else. As an effect of receiving so
much money, Pip spends it impulsively on silly things, such as the gentlemen s
society. In summary, Dickens poked fun at the upper class s mannerisms throughout
the entire
Benefits Of Supply Chains Going Green
The discussion of supply chains going green has become a bone of contention among
major stakeholders in the industry. The discussion started after the Carbon disclosure
project released a report indicating that supply chains contributed greatly to the
emission of carbon in the atmosphere. Due to the report, pressure has been mounting
on the administration of supply chains to implement strategies on their carbon
management. Analysts have however stated that there are various pros and cons of
the supply chains going green, which have to be considered in the implementation of
carbon management strategies. This paper analyzes the pros and cons of supply
chains going green.

It is however important for companies to understand that the improvement of
financial performance as a result of going green is not immediate since the company
has to adjust in its operations, which might take a while to adjust to (Palevich, 2012).
Resource sustainability
Through the move by supply chains to go green, there is an effective utilization of
available resources. Going at the current rate where carbon emissions have increased,
the environment is being compromised and the future generations may have a
problem in producing even the basic products that they may need. Additionally,
environmentalists have warned of the increase in global temperatures that are
affecting climate. With the decision to go green by the supply chains, the carbon
emissions will be reduced at a certain percentage, which is important for the
conservation of the environment.
Increase in efficiency
Through the effective management of resources, chances are that efficiency will be
embraced. When supply chains go green, resources are limited and this translates to
development of effective models that not only focus on reduce carbon emissions but
also improving efficiency through the limited resources. Through efficiency,
production of hazardous substances will be reduced and organizations will not have
to be fined for violation of regulations regarding the environment (Laloux, 2014).

Finding Balance Between Chaos and Order in Woolf s To

Regardless if found in reality, both the present or past, or found in comparable
literary works, the constant battle and endless war between order and chaos,
emotions and thoughts, follows humanity mercilessly. These opposing concepts also
take form in ideas such the thesis and the antitheses that with every idea or concept,
sooner or later an opposing force or contradicting theory will rise and ultimately
challenge and change the previous state of society, individual or even in the natural
world. The war that rages between order and chaos easily applies to this philosophical
notion. Both states, chaos and order, seem to and most likely will continue to
inevitably occur and then counter act the other. Although a society or an individual...

Lilly Briscoe, a strong willed and rather independent painter, acts throughout the
novel as the antitheses of Mrs. Ramsay. Where Mrs. Ramsay acts placid and
cordial, and conforms to the demands society projects, Lilly acts upon her own
desires and will, primarily in regards to the realms of painting and marriage. As the
story progresses the reader finds that painting lies at the core of Lillie s self, and she
uses it as the means to maintain her inner balance. In the end, Lily accomplishes the
balance of order and chaos, by choosing her own desires over the pressures ensued
by society, and Mrs. Ramsay fails, adhering to the standards and demands placed on
her, and ultimately dying after living a life of demanding servitude.
The pressure to marry and cease her artistic pursuits seems to act as the most
significant struggle Lily Briscoe faces throughout the course of the novel. Because,
Mrs. Ramsay can t stand for a woman of her acquaintance to remain unwed, she sets
Lily up with William Bankes, an older widower and longtime friend of Mr. Ramsay
s. Thus, enter the pull for Lilly to conform to the standard definition of a woman

paintings, Mr. Ramsay tends to make it nearly impossible for Lily to paint as she
How Does Romeo Mature
While in The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet the two teens, Romeo and Juliet, make
bad decisions, they do mature throughout the story. When At the beginning of the
story, Romeo seemed to be very indecisive about his relationships, Friar Lawrence
even pointed this out to him when Romeo told him that he now is in love with
Juliet. Juliet matured when she decided to marry Paris. Both of the kids had to
mature in some way otherwise they would have died before the end of the actual
story. Romeo and Juliet maturing were good for both the story and the characters.
At the beginning of the story, Romeo was in love with Rosaline. Romeo is still a
teen and he is very indecisive about who he likes. But, after Romeo meets Juliet, he
instantly falls in love with her and he has no feelings for anyone else. This shows
Romeo becoming more mature because Romeo s actions show that he truly is in
love and doesn t have feelings for anyone else. If Romeo was like most teens, he
wouldn t be very serious about this Relationship he has with Juliet, most teens are not
very mature and will most likely not stay loyal to their partner. But Romeo does and
that shows that he has matured because Romeo can stay loyal to one partner.... Show

When Juliet got married to Romeo, her father came to her with the news that she

and father threatened to kick her out of their house and disown her. Even though
Juliet didn t want to be married to Paris, she was willing to marry him because she
knew that it was the best option for her. This shows Juliet becoming more mature
because, like adults, Juliet was willing to compromise to get a better result. If Juliet
would not have gained this maturity, then she most likely would not have married
Paris, been kicked out onto the streets and would have

What Is Drifting Essay
The history of drifting it all started in Japan in around the year 1970. What is
drifting ? Drifting is the technique of coming to a corner and locking up the back
tires to go sideways once your sliding you have to counter steer to keep drifting

used in racing to get around the corner without losing speed and then keep going on

Premier League Essay
For the six clubs in England, finishing top four in the Premier League is the same as
surviving relegation.
Without Champions League football, clubs suddenly panic as there is the likely hood
of having to sell off their stars, falling behind to compete in the transfer window, and
losing out on financial resources.
This past season, Chelsea, Tottenham, Manchester City, and Liverpool managed to
get across the finish line somewhere in the top four. For them, Champions League
football is looming on the horizon and have nothing to worry about just yet. And
somehow joining them, will be Jose Mourinho s Manchester United, who finished

Tottenham are heading into the summer with more questions than answers,
excitement, and nerves. Their 2016 17 campaign was successful to a degree. They
finally finished above arch rival Arsenal for the first time in 22 years. They said
goodbye to White Heart Lane and replacing it with a revolutionary football stadium.
Best of all they finished second and are going to play Champions League football
yet again. But they did crash out of the Champions League in a very winable group
and have no silverware to show for their brilliant effort this past season.
Three questions to ask:
Can Tottenham hold on to their best players especially from their defense and
midfield?
How much cash are they willing to spend and for who needs in the attack?
Are they ready to take the leap to becoming European Elites doing better in the
Champions League?
As uncertainity swirls around the club going forward, they are a great position to be
more than noisy neighbors to Chelsea and Arsenal.
Manchester City are heading into summer with things to sort out. The super rich club

I actually know about jazz? I have always characterized jazz music as a rhythmic
and instrumental form of music. My impression on the basis of the jazz has always
been portrayed with the African American race. I think this was build up from the

invented by African American musicians in the early part of the twentieth century
and has very strong rhythms and often involves improvisation ). But Louis

Obesity and How it Affects the Pregnant Woman
The obesity epidemic has become one of America s most serious health crises. The
rising obesity rate has contributed to numerous significant health problems and
diseases. One specific group for whom obesity is a problem is women of
childbearing age. According to Davis, Madan, and Schmatz(2010), more than half of
women from ages 18 to 42 in the United States are considered overweight or preobese,
while about one third are obese. Maternal obesity not only contributes to
complications that affect the mother and fetus while in gestation, but long term

Though explaining how obesity affects the pregnant women is important, by going a
step further and educating them on how to prevent obesity will have a greater impact.
Education is a primary intervention that is used with most disease processes. In obese
women, the education process must really start before pregnancy even occurs. The
American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (2013) states that obese women
are strongly encouraged to undergo preconception assessment and counseling that
should include specific information regarding the maternal and fetal risks of obesity
in pregnancy, as well as undertaking some kind of weight reduction program. In
addition, nutrition counseling as well as encouragement to follow an exercise
program should be offered to all overweight or obese women. Once in the
postpartum period, nutrition and exercise counseling should be maintained and
also before pursuing another pregnancy (The American College of Obstetricians
and Gynecologists, 2013). Something that can be used in conjunction with
nutritional counseling is an app called My Fitness Pal. It is a fast and easy calorie
counter that tracks one s food for the day. The app has over five million different
foods stored in its database, making it easy to look up food even when going out to
eat. One can log his/her own personal recipes as well and save them for future use.

John Ashbery s Influence On Visual Art
The poetry of the New York School artists is exceptionally affected by visual art; the
artists, for example, Frank O Hara, and John Ashbery were influenced basically by
Abstract Expressionism, Surrealism, Cubism, and Dada. The motivation behind why
visual workmanship had such a solid impact on their poetryis that the painters of the
New York School ruled the art world, they set the patterns, and writers and artists
follow them. Additionally, visual craftsmanship played a noteworthy part in the lives
of the artists as a number of them were art reviewers and they frequently worked
together with the artists. The thesis of this paper concentrates on the Marcel
Duchamp s art influence on John Ashbery poetry, especially Daffy Duck in
Hollywood.

Self Pride In The Scarlet Ibis By James
In the the story The Scarlet Ibis by James, Hurst shows his audience that self pride is
a positive aspect in this story, it can help people get through difficult obstacles they
have in life, but when people worry too much about their self pride it can lead to
hurting others physically and mentally.
Pride can be positive and can help people overcome the difficult struggles they are
going through, and can also lead to bonding or getting closer. In this story, the
narrator has a disabled brother whos parents and doctor both don t believe he is able
to learn to walk. The narrator doesn t think of Doodle as a brother, but as someone
who is disabled and tries to fix him by helping him learn to walk. One piece of
evidence that shows that pride is positive in the story, is when the narrator shows
how he cares about Doodle and wants him to get better by helping him learn how to
walk. After he got to know Doodle a little bit more he felt more connected and
believed that he would learn to walk and put in the effort to help him learn. I m
going to teach you to walk, Doodle. I said. I can t walk brother, He said. Who says
so? I demanded. Mama, the doctor everybody. Oh you can walk (Hurst 3). This
quote shows how pride can lead to helping someone get through something they are
struggling with, because it says I m going to teach you to walk, Doodle. he s very
confident in the way he asserts his ability to teach Doodle to walk he does this
instead of saying I am going to try or asking it as a question Would you like me to?
These are both less confident ways he could go about asking. Then another part of
the quote that stood out was when the author wrote the narrator saying Oh you can
walk to his brother, Doodle. He s dismissing his mother and the doctor who are both
older and more knowledgeable than him. This elaborates on the fact that the narrator
shows a tremendous amount of pride and arrogance throughout the story. This
shows that the narrator had fueled Doodle s desire to succeed for his brother
because the narrator pushed him to be normal, thus Doodle being able to walk.
Before everyone told Doodle he could not walk so Doodle did not believe in himself,
until his brother pushed him to
The Color Purple Comparative Essay
Both novels have similarities between their narrative style and structure, for
example, they re both epistolary novels. In Walker s The Color Purple , Celie
writes to God as a way to articulate her thoughts, and in doing so ends up being
partially liberated. Writing to God gives her an outlet to articulate her struggles
without any harm coming to her. However, it could be seen that later in the novel
Celie also uses the letters to educate Nettie on her life and opinions and vice versa.

The letters also show the novel s didactic purpose, as when Celie writes to Nettie,

purpose as her letters are filled with critical observations on the incompetence and
inhumanity of white colonists and of African men and are meant to teach Celie on
the Olinka tribe s way of life in contrast to the American way of life she is used to.
This also hints at Walker s didactic purpose as she uses the women in The Color
Purple to teach the reader about womanism , a social change movement based on
feminism that is more focused on the everyday problems and experiences of black
women and other women of minority backgrounds, but sticks with feminism s main
goal of eradicating inequality for all people, not just black women. It does this by
highlighting the sisterhood between women and how women must find their solution
[to patriarchy] outside the home and motherhood, in enterprise, entertainment, and
education . For example, when Celie and Shug Avery first meet, Shug is horrible to
Celie but she still takes care of her as somebody got to stand up for
Comparison Of Immanuel Kant And Karl Popper
Introduction: The purpose of this writing assignment is to compare and contrast
concepts from two philosophers that were discussed during the course and relating
them to the choice of object. The two philosophers that I have chosen for this
assignments are, Immanuel Kant and Karl Popper. For Immanuel Kant s theory
/concepts I have chosen are Enlightenment and Public and Private Use of Reason
and for Popper, I have chosen the 3 stage model and Falsifiability concepts. The
object that I have chosen is a popular television show called Law and Order:
Special Victims Unit (SVU) in terms of how they work and solve crimes. The
relationship between both authors and the object is that they all involve a great deal
of analyzing, use of voice and critical thinking.
Immanuel Kant: Immanuel Kant, is known as one of the most distinguished figures
in the Western philosophy. He is especially known for his writing on Enlightenment
which was one of the concepts that was discussed in the beginning of course.
According to Kant, he defined enlightenment as self incurred is this tutelage when
its cause lies not in lack of resolution and courage to use it without direction from

Object 1: The Moon
Next to the Sun, the moon is the most recognizable object in the night sky, and is
Earth s only natural satellite. It has been estimated that the moon formed somewhere
in the region of 4.45 billion years ago, just a measly 30 50 million years after the
origination of the Solar System. While there are many hypotheses that try to account
for the formation of the moon, the one that is backed the greatest is the theory that
the moon was formed when a large mass roughly the size of Mars collided with the
newly formed Earth, this sending out planetary material into the same orbit of the
Earth. This material then underwent the process of accretion and formed what we
now know as the moon. With modern laser altimetry, scientists have been able to
accurately measure the topography of the moon. The most apparent topographic
feature on the moon is located on the southern pole, is referred to as the Aitken
basin, and stretches nearly 1400 miles in diameter. This is the largest crater on the
moon and the largest known crater in the Solar System. Not only is this the widest
crater on the moon, but its floor is also the lowest point on the surface of the moon.
The dark spots that are visible with the naked eye are called maria, and they are
actually hardened pools of ancient basaltic lava. Next to the maria, the most
commonly seen features of the moon are the impact craters that pepper the entire
surface.

Alex, along with his three droogs, (Pete, Georgie, and Dim), go around town
performing vicious acts of violence against society, such as beating helpless tramps
and raping women. Unfortunately for Alex, his droogs aren t too happy with his

Alex, like any other ruler (or person that believes that they are entitled to a throne),

Often enough, a student s background will determine his or her effectiveness in a gap
year. While students at prestigious universities like Harvard exhibit higher GPAs, one
should note that for students of low socioeconomic status taking a gap year puts them
at a sizable disadvantage compared to peers who enter college right away (Hoder;
Figure H). The seemingly contradictory nature of this data would imply gap years
require certain conditions for success. One must factor that places like Harvard
typically have students of higher socioeconomic status due to the nature of the
school, meaning the experiences of a wealthier person in his or her gap year
would differ with the experience of a lower income student. Therefore, a gap year
could yield benefits but only with the right resources available. Lining up with this,
students who take a gap year typically come from higher income households (figure
I). In figure C for example, the lesser degrees for gap year students stem from using
one or more gap years instead of just one year, since the previously mentioned data
implied most higher income students will take off a single gap year and not more.
Inversely, poorer students
Inquiry Concerning Human Understanding by David Hume
Essay
David Hume wrote Inquiry Concerning Human Understanding in 1748, right in the
middle of the Enlightenment and on the eve of the Industrial and Scientific
Revolution. So it only makes sense that some of the ideas and comparisons used are
slightly outdated, but science, if anything, helps his argument regarding causality.
Hume is ultimately concerned with the origins of causality, how we are able to
gain knowledge from causality, and if we can even call the knowledge derived from
causality real knowledge. This is essentially the problem of induction, and is a
central pillar of Hume s overall philosophy. There are some significant objections to
Hume s ideas concerning causality, but they do not hold much clout and are no match
for his... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, it can be asserted that knowledge gained from causality is not a priori,
rather a posteriori, which is knowledge gained from experience and empirical
evidence. One objection to Hume s definition of causality was written by a fellow
(omit) named Thomas Reid. His problem with Hume s definition was that it led to
absurd conclusions. The example Reid uses is one of night and day. Reid asserts
that if one follows Hume s definition of cause, then one can postulate that day is the
cause of night, and night is the cause of day, which goes on forever and is circular.
Thus, by Reid s account, the definition of cause is absurd, and cannot hold (sp) any
value. This cannot be further from the truth. Reid s example is severely (sp)
lacking in rational thinking, but one cannot blame him too much due to the time
period in which he resided. omit in. The fact of the matter is that day is not the
cause of night, nor is night the cause of day. As the Earth rotates on its axis, half of
the Earth is bathed in the Sun s light, while the other half is in darkness. This is
always the case, even as the Earth spins. Thus the Sun is the cause of both day and
night, not day the cause of night and vice versa. Reid s objection now has very little
ground to stand on, and it is made even more apparent when one considers certain
Alaskan towns, which depending on the season, can experience more than 24 hours
of night at a time. It is by

First, its unparalleled appeal to both the children and the adult majority thrusted it
to the spotlight (Hillenburg 40). About 20 million of those who watched
SpongeBob were the adult generation. Second, the movie received a widespread
marketing across many television channels. It is estimated that it was aired for
more than 100 000 minutes across the television channels. Third, the setting of
SpongeBob was also appealing to a wide audience not because of the marine
setting, but the ability to match the events with real life situations. These reasons
were the critical success factors for the $8 billion franchise. This is a record that
any other animation movie is yet to break. SpongeBob was watched by both adults
and the children. Most of the adult population ranged between 18 to 34 years of
age. However, the majority of the viewers were in the age bracket of 2 to 11 years.

Discrimination And Prejudice And Discrimination
Discrimination comes in a number of forms. We have age discrimination,
employment or job discrimination, racial discrimination, gender discrimination,
reverse discrimination, sexual discrimination, and others. Prejudice is a negative
attitude toward a socially defined group and toward any person perceived to be a
member of that group (Burgess, 2003). The purpose of her research was to talk about
discriminationand prejudices and the affect they have on our day to day lives. She
also defines prejudiceand discrimination and takes a look at their relationship to
stereotyping and racism. According to Burgess, stereotyping often leads to
prejudice and discrimination, with its definition almost mirroring that of prejudice.
Stereotypes or characterizations are generalizations or assumptions that people
make about the characteristics of all members of a group, based on an image, often
wrong, about what people in that group are like. We are told that it does not allow
for individuals to be different, but names them all as one group (Burgess, 2003).
Much as her research does, I d like to discuss the different types of discrimination
and prejudice and how we might eliminate it. In the text chosen for this course,
Managing Diversity People Skills for a Multicultural Workplace, the author reminds
its readers that America has been a segmented society and that de facto segregation is
still common. Rumor, suspicion, and stereotyping result if a group is competing too

Review Of The Fall Of Constantinople Essay
Jeffery Jacob World History [Teacher name here] December 21st, 2016 The Fall of
Constantinople Byzantium was one of the many Greek city states that stratled along
the coasts of the Aegean Sea. As an abundant source of Grains, fish, and trade, she
played a pivotal role as a landing for Darius colossal army against the Greeks; a
battleground between Athens and Sparta during the Pelloponessian war; and a prized
tributary under Roman supervision. The Roman Emperor, Constantine I, renamed the
city after himself and the newly christened Constantinoplegrew to eclipse Rome as
the greatest Capital of Europe. Even after the continent was plunged into the so
called Dark Ages ; protected by the indominable Theodosian Wall, The Queen of
Cities , as the Greek speaking Byzantines called her, retained her position as the
most prestine City of the early Middle Ages. And became the seat of power for the
great Basilieis, Greek plural for Emperors, and the venerated Patriarchs of the Eastern
Orthodox Church. Yet the middle ages made life more turbulant for the aged
Byzantine Empireas it lost vast swathes of land to the surging Muslim Caliphate;
struggled with internal corruption throughout its lifetime; clung desperately to its
commercial power in the face of competition from merchant republics such as Genoa
and Venice; and embroiled itself into several centuries of conflicts with the Turks
over control of Anatolia, modern day Turkey. However, its Religious influence grew

Along with the desperation and disorientation for the tragedy, Ralph enlightens and

lesson from his flaws. Ralph recalls his initial American dream and recognizes that he
is too self centered that he often neglects his family, an essential part of his dream,

Epic Poetry and Beowulf Pg
Epic poems have a unique set of characteristics that distinguish them from just an
ordinary poem. An epic poem must contain a hero that is male, noble, and of
importance to society who gives long formal speeches and travels over a vast setting.
In the epic poem, Beowulf, the reader can see distinct Anglo Saxon political,
economic, and religious values in the actions of the characters and the things
happening around them. Wealth in the Anglo Saxon society, as seen in Beowulf
, was
used as a means of reparations, rewards, and political standings. One can also tell that
the Anglo Saxonswhere in a state of limbo between Christian and Pagan beliefs
because of the ideas expressed by the heroand his colleagues in Beowulf. The political
standings... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Paganism can also be found during the poem when the narrator discusses fate, the
nonexistence of an afterlife, and the concept of fate. Before entering the dragons
tower Beowulf tells his followers that he will fight until fate decides which of us
[he or the dragon] wins (Beowulf pg. 53). Fate is only a belief in Pagan religion;
Christians don t believe in a predetermined destiny. When Beowulf is fighting the
dragon and he begins to sense defeat he reflects on a journey into darkness that all
men must make, as death ends their few brief hours on earth. (Beowulf pg.54).
This journey into darkness alerts the reader that Beowulf believes that his only life
is here on earth and will venture on to darkness with no afterlife. Christians believe
that there is a life after death in heaven as opposed to Pagans who believe in death
as an end of existence.
Scattered in the poem the reader can find literary devices including stock epithets,
kennings, alliteration, allusions, hyperbole, and imagery. Stock epithets are
adjectives that point out a special trait of a character. One example of a stock
epithet can be found in line 324 of Beowulf when Grendel is described as being a
sin stained demon (Beowulf pg. 42). A kenning is a poetic synonym found in
Germanic poems as seen when Beowulf is called the noble protector of all seamen
(Beowulf pg.50). Alliteration is the repetition of
The Cold War
With the end of the Cold War , the hypothesis of war between states declined and
created opportunities for peace and security. However, new types of conflicts, new
challenges for maintaining international security and new threats to peace emerged.
The U.S. attacks on September 11, 2001, marked a before and after in international
relations, security concepts, and the emergence of new threats. Governments have
had the necessity to change and to design new strategies to address these new threats.
Furthermore, it has been necessary to modify the roles of the Armed Forces.
The paper analyzes the role of the armed forces combating the new threats in Peru.
First, it explains the new threats that Peru is facing and the role of the armed forces
combating them, its employment, and legal issues that allow its participation. After
that, this paper analyzes the strengths and weaknesses of military participation.
Finally, it recommends measures to strengthen its participation.
The last white paper on national defense, April 2005, recognized the external and
internal threats that Peru is facing. As external threats, those generated if someone
tries to apply security doctrines incompatible with the rule of international law, threats
that could emerge from the crisis regarding scarcity of natural resources of strategic
value, terrorism, drug trafficking, and international crime. As internal threats, it
recognized terrorists and subversive groups, radical groups promoting social violence,

Most kids would think about the what if s instead of about thinking what you need
to do. So, all of the aforementioned examples explain why one of Brian s main
character traits is responsibility. Persistence doesn t come naturally to nor is
someone born with it. However, since Brian has to stay alive, he has to become
persistent, and he does. An example from the text that shows Brian is persistent is
on page 58 where Brian is in desperate need of food. He walked slowly still a bit
pained in his joints and weak from hunger up along side of the lake ... He watched
the birds fly, their color bright slach in solid green, and in this way he found the
berries. This example shows why Brian is persistent because even though he was
in pain he kept going to find the berry tree. Instead of giving up, Brian kept going
to reach his goal to get to the berry tree. Another example from the novel that shows
Brian is persistent is when he made a fire. The process of making the fire took him
two hours. A little spark appeared here and there, but didn t start a solid fire. He was
persistent enough to keep hacking at the wood. Finally, after about three hours, Brian
created a fire. He created a beautiful fire. A fire that he would protect, a fire that
would protect him. This shows

Critical Writing Review Of Hamlet
Many people equate good critical writing with very descriptive writing when that is
simply not true. Good critical writing should not just be an in depth description of a
topic. Good critical writing should include a clear presentation of your argument and
your own evidence, a clear and confident refusal to accept opposing conclusions from
other critical writers, and a balanced presentation of reasons why the conclusions of
other writers may be accepted but are ultimately not correct. Many people have

background of Branagh s film, is clear about his opinion, provides lots of evidence,
and includes and refutes opposing views. Berardinelli has written a piece that
includes only his opinion with no critical reasoning or specific evidence. Berardinelli
gives background information on Hamlet itself when talking about how legendary
actors John Gielgud, Richard Burton, and Laurence Olivier have taken the lead role

how it has been something of a private obsession for Kenneth Branagh since the
age of eleven (Berardinelli). He then goes into a lengthy synopsis of Hamlet.
Berardinelli is not at all on the fence about his opinion; he states his argument very
clearly early on when he says I do not make lightly, this latest version is not only
the best filmed adaption of Hamlet I have ever seen, but the best cinematic
expression that I have come across of any of Shakespeare s plays (Berardinelli).

Examples Of Imperialism In Heart Of Darkness
In Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad, the imperialism of Africa is described.
Conrad tells the story of the cruel treatment of the natives and of the imperialism of
the Congo region through the perspective of the main character, Marlow. Throughout
the novel, Marlow describes how the Europeans continuously bestow poor treatment
to the native people by enslaving them in their own territory. Analyzing the story with
the New Criticism lens, it is evident that Conrad incorporates numerous literary
devices in Heart of Darkness, including similes, imagery, personification, and
antitheses to describe and exemplify the main idea of cruel imperialism in Africa

obtaining ivory, rubber, and other resources and goods. As the Europeans imperialize
the area, they do not build culture or assist in the development of the Congo region,
but break down culture as they enslave the natives and take away their rights, along
with stripping the area of resources and natural, earthly beauty, which is conveyed
through the cruel physical treatment towards the natives. This treatment is also

Poverty In African America
The disproportionate rates of poverty among African americans has continued to be
a persistent social problem that the United States faces. The purpose of this article is
to examine how poverty has been approached in the media, specifically on the
opinion pages of American newspaper. Poverty is often explained in three different
ways. The first explanation is blaming the person for ending up in poverty. As people
often associate poverty with a lack of responsibility and it has also been noted that
poverty is blamed on the poor when raceis involved. As the media shows the poor are
frequently the minorities and the African Americans, even though most welfare
recipients are white. The next explanation is the culture of poverty theory. The
founder of this theory has said even... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Theme Of Death And Change In A Rose For Emily By...
William Faulkner once said, Given a choice between grief and nothing, I d choose
grief (Brainyquote). He further explains why he d do this in A Rose for Emily ;
although the story is not about him, he details the loneliness and selfishness of a
poor woman, Miss Emily. Miss Emily is unable to grip the idea of death and
suffers great deals of denial. After the death of her father, the townspeople expected
her to be in a state of grief but alas she is not. Instead she proceeds to say that her
father is very well with her, alive. William Faulkners idea of grieving is clear in this
story because he shows his audience that it is better to accept death than to ignore it
through the accounts of Miss Emily s journey. William Faulkner s story takes place
in the South, during a time period of racial discrimination and major political
change. By using reader response criticism, a reader can analyze A Rose for Emily
through the aspects of the secret held within the story, racefound through
anthropology, and gender found through anthropology.
To begin with, one can analyze A Rose for Emily by examining the underlying
hidden message found within the story. The hidden message that William
Faulkner tried to convey in his story was the themes of death and change. Death
looms through the story from the beginning right on through to the end as the
narrator begins describing the beginning of Miss Emily s funeral. Miss Emily
herself chooses not to accept the fate of death when her extremely controlling
father passes away. Miss Emily met them at the door, dressed` as usual and with
no trace of grief on her face. She told them that her father was not dead (Faulkner).
This quote from A Rose for Emily clearly shows how Miss Emily tried to defy
death by holding on to her father s corpse and treating it as if he were still living
and how fearful she was of change. She later killed Homer to ensure that he would
never leave her. Miss Emily continually tried to prevent any sort of change through
death or other means from occurring in her town. She was so frightened of change
that she wouldn t allow the city to put numbers on her house for mail. Miss Emily
alone refused to let them fasten the metal numbers above her door and

  • 3. Why Is Bach Important If we are to evaluate Bach s significance as a tutor, should we then assess the success of his students? Bach had taught numerous pupils during his life, particularly since c. 1706/7, where most primary sources are dated from. Johann Casper Vogler was one of Bach s successful students who became a nationally known organist and won an exclusive examination performance in the Markt Kirche at Hanover. In 1721 he moved to take Bach s former post as Organist for the Weimar Court. Vogler, previously known as Anonymous 18 , is of significance today through his hand copies of Bach s works. His copy of Bach s Prelude and Fughetta in C Major, BWV 870a, is of particular influence, being highly regarded within performance study practices for having the fingerings written out. It is seen that Bach s teaching methods went beyond the scope of influencing his direct pupils. Johann Tobias Krebs was another of Bach s acclaimed students who in 1721 accepted the post as Organist at Buttelstedt. Here he was expected to play the organ of Michaeliskirche and instruct at the school. Although J. T. Krebs remained at Buttelstedt for the rest of his life, he is mostly acknowledged as being the father of Johann Ludwig Krebs, also a student of Bach. Johann Ludwig Krebs became to be considered comparable to Bach; continuing the genius particularly through his keyboard technique and counterpoint. The names of some other notable pupils of Bach include Johann Martin Schubart, who in 1717 succeeded Bach at his organist post in Weimar. Another student was Johann Schneider who became organist of St. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 4. Great Expectations Social Commentary Essay Title That s just what happens when you re rich and you don t have a job, you get crazy. This line, spoken by Zoey Murphy in Dear Evan Hansen, could not have fit the ideas stated in Great Expectations any better. One of the major ideas conveyed consistently throughout Great Expectations is of never being satisfied, and the constant desire for wealth and fame. Also indirectly relayed through the novel very often is Charles Dicken s social commentary. He looks down upon the desire for wealth and fame, and this is disguised through his descriptions of the middle class s goal of becoming high class, and high class mannerisms. This can also be connected to the 21st century. One of Dicken s main points on social commentary has to do with the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One great example of this is the way Mrs. Pocket handles her baby. Usually the nurses or her other daughter Jane take care of the baby, so when Mrs. Pocket takes care of the baby, it is humorous to the reader. When society first sees her handle the baby, Mrs. Pocket took it the other way, and got its head upon the table; which was announced to all resent by a prodigious concussion (Dickens 179). It is clear that Mrs. Pocket doesn t know how to care for her baby, and while laughable, this is also a very sad situation. It was her baby that she gave birth to, and she doesn t even know how to hold it! Dickens is clearly making fun of the higher class and how heavily they rely on hired help to take care of their children. This is seen again later in the chapter. At this point, she is helpless in her attempts of taking care of the baby. Dickens writes, Into Mrs. Pocket s lap, and gave it the nutcrackers to play with...forgetting all about the baby on her lap: who did most appalling things with the nutcrackers (Dickens 179 180). This is an obvious lack of parental nurturing in the Pocket home, and this is an effect of their wealth and heavy reliance on servants. Dickens makes another point against the upper class when he shows Pip s lack of control after receiving his sum. Dickens writes, We spent as much money as we could, and got as little for it as people could make up their minds to give us (Dickens 256). Pip is clearly in panic when he receives such a large sum of money. Due to this, he loses control and does what he has always wished to do: spend it all! He doesn t know anything else. As an effect of receiving so much money, Pip spends it impulsively on silly things, such as the gentlemen s society. In summary, Dickens poked fun at the upper class s mannerisms throughout the entire

The discussion started after the Carbon disclosure project released a report indicating that supply chains contributed greatly to the emission of carbon in the atmosphere. Due to the report, pressure has been mounting on the administration of supply chains to implement strategies on their carbon management. It is however important for companies to understand that the improvement of financial performance as a result of going green is not immediate since the company has to adjust in its operations, which might take a while to adjust to (Palevich, 2012). Resource sustainability Through the move by supply chains to go green, there is an effective utilization of available resources. Going at the current rate where carbon emissions have increased, the environment is being compromised and the future generations may have a problem in producing even the basic products that they may need. Additionally, environmentalists have warned of the increase in global temperatures that are affecting climate. With the decision to go green by the supply chains, the carbon emissions will be reduced at a certain percentage, which is important for the conservation of the environment. Increase in efficiency Through the effective management of resources, chances are that efficiency will be embraced. When supply chains go green, resources are limited and this translates to development of effective models that not only focus on reduce carbon emissions but also improving efficiency through the limited resources. Through efficiency, production of hazardous substances will be reduced and organizations will not have to be fined for violation of regulations regarding the environment (Laloux, 2014). Lilly Briscoe, a strong willed and rather independent painter, acts throughout the novel as the antitheses of Mrs. Ramsay. Where Mrs. Ramsay acts placid and cordial, and conforms to the demands society projects, Lilly acts upon her own desires and will, primarily in regards to the realms of painting and marriage. As the story progresses the reader finds that painting lies at the core of Lillie s self, and she uses it as the means to maintain her inner balance. In the end, Lily accomplishes the balance of order and chaos, by choosing her own desires over the pressures ensued by society, and Mrs. Ramsay fails, adhering to the standards and demands placed on her, and ultimately dying after living a life of demanding servitude. The pressure to marry and cease her artistic pursuits seems to act as the most significant struggle Lily Briscoe faces throughout the course of the novel. Education is a primary intervention that is used with most disease processes. In obese women, the education process must really start before pregnancy even occurs. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (2013) states that obese women are strongly encouraged to undergo preconception assessment and counseling that should include specific information regarding the maternal and fetal risks of obesity in pregnancy, as well as undertaking some kind of weight reduction program. In addition, nutrition counseling as well as encouragement to follow an exercise program should be offered to all overweight or obese women. • 14. Self Pride In The Scarlet Ibis By James In the the story The Scarlet Ibis by James, Hurst shows his audience that self pride is a positive aspect in this story, it can help people get through difficult obstacles they have in life, but when people worry too much about their self pride it can lead to hurting others physically and mentally. Pride can be positive and can help people overcome the difficult struggles they are going through, and can also lead to bonding or getting closer. In this story, the narrator has a disabled brother whos parents and doctor both don t believe he is able to learn to walk. The narrator doesn t think of Doodle as a brother, but as someone who is disabled and tries to fix him by helping him learn to walk. One piece of evidence that shows that pride is positive in the story, is when the narrator shows how he cares about Doodle and wants him to get better by helping him learn how to walk. After he got to know Doodle a little bit more he felt more connected and believed that he would learn to walk and put in the effort to help him learn. I m going to teach you to walk, Doodle. I said. I can t walk brother, He said. Who says so? I demanded. Mama, the doctor everybody. Oh you can walk (Hurst 3). This quote shows how pride can lead to helping someone get through something they are struggling with, because it says I m going to teach you to walk, Doodle. he s very confident in the way he asserts his ability to teach Doodle to walk he does this instead of saying I am going to try or asking it as a question Would you like me to? These are both less confident ways he could go about asking. Then another part of the quote that stood out was when the author wrote the narrator saying Oh you can walk to his brother, Doodle. He s dismissing his mother and the doctor who are both older and more knowledgeable than him. This elaborates on the fact that the narrator shows a tremendous amount of pride and arrogance throughout the story. This shows that the narrator had fueled Doodle s desire to succeed for his brother because the narrator pushed him to be normal, thus Doodle being able to walk. Before everyone told Doodle he could not walk so Doodle did not believe in himself, until his brother pushed him to

In Walker s The Color Purple , Celie writes to God as a way to articulate her thoughts, and in doing so ends up being partially liberated. Writing to God gives her an outlet to articulate her struggles without any harm coming to her. However, it could be seen that later in the novel Celie also uses the letters to educate Nettie on her life and opinions and vice versa. This also hints at Walker s didactic purpose as she uses the women in The Color Purple to teach the reader about womanism , a social change movement based on feminism that is more focused on the everyday problems and experiences of black women and other women of minority backgrounds, but sticks with feminism s main goal of eradicating inequality for all people, not just black women. It does this by highlighting the sisterhood between women and how women must find their solution [to patriarchy] outside the home and motherhood, in enterprise, entertainment, and education . For example, when Celie and Shug Avery first meet, Shug is horrible to Celie but she still takes care of her as somebody got to stand up for

Comparison Of Immanuel Kant And Karl Popper Introduction: The purpose of this writing assignment is to compare and contrast concepts from two philosophers that were discussed during the course and relating them to the choice of object. The two philosophers that I have chosen for this assignments are, Immanuel Kant and Karl Popper. For Immanuel Kant s theory /concepts I have chosen are Enlightenment and Public and Private Use of Reason and for Popper, I have chosen the 3 stage model and Falsifiability concepts. The object that I have chosen is a popular television show called Law and Order: Special Victims Unit (SVU) in terms of how they work and solve crimes. The relationship between both authors and the object is that they all involve a great deal of analyzing, use of voice and critical thinking. Immanuel Kant: Immanuel Kant, is known as one of the most distinguished figures in the Western philosophy. Earth s Only Natural Satellite Andrew Logan Dr. Richards PHY 161 5/1/15 Observing Project Object 1: The Moon Next to the Sun, the moon is the most recognizable object in the night sky, and is Earth s only natural satellite. It has been estimated that the moon formed somewhere in the region of 4.45 billion years ago, just a measly 30 50 million years after the origination of the Solar System. While there are many hypotheses that try to account for the formation of the moon, the one that is backed the greatest is the theory that the moon was formed when a large mass roughly the size of Mars collided with the newly formed Earth, this sending out planetary material into the same orbit of the Earth. This material then underwent the process of accretion and formed what we now know as the moon. With modern laser altimetry, scientists have been able to accurately measure the topography of the moon. The most apparent topographic feature on the moon is located on the southern pole, is referred to as the Aitken basin, and stretches nearly 1400 miles in diameter. This is the largest crater on the moon and the largest known crater in the Solar System. Not only is this the widest crater on the moon, but its floor is also the lowest point on the surface of the moon. The dark spots that are visible with the naked eye are called maria, and they are actually hardened pools of ancient basaltic lava. Next to the maria, the most commonly seen features of the moon are the impact craters that pepper the entire surface.

  • 19. Gap Year Disadvantages While beneficial to students in certain circumstances, a gap year s success ultimately depends on background elements like socioeconomic status. Students taking a gap year must possess a structured plan and must actively seek productive ways to explore their passions to dully utilize it to their benefit. Often enough, a student s background will determine his or her effectiveness in a gap year. While students at prestigious universities like Harvard exhibit higher GPAs, one should note that for students of low socioeconomic status taking a gap year puts them at a sizable disadvantage compared to peers who enter college right away (Hoder; Figure H). The seemingly contradictory nature of this data would imply gap years require certain conditions for success. One must factor that places like Harvard typically have students of higher socioeconomic status due to the nature of the school, meaning the experiences of a wealthier person in his or her gap year would differ with the experience of a lower income student. Therefore, a gap year could yield benefits but only with the right resources available. Lining up with this, students who take a gap year typically come from higher income households (figure I). In figure C for example, the lesser degrees for gap year students stem from using one or more gap years instead of just one year, since the previously mentioned data implied most higher income students will take off a single gap year and not more. Inversely, poorer students
  • 20. Inquiry Concerning Human Understanding by David Hume Essay David Hume wrote Inquiry Concerning Human Understanding in 1748, right in the middle of the Enlightenment and on the eve of the Industrial and Scientific Revolution. So it only makes sense that some of the ideas and comparisons used are slightly outdated, but science, if anything, helps his argument regarding causality. Hume is ultimately concerned with the origins of causality, how we are able to gain knowledge from causality, and if we can even call the knowledge derived from causality real knowledge. This is essentially the problem of induction, and is a central pillar of Hume s overall philosophy. There are some significant objections to Hume s ideas concerning causality, but they do not hold much clout and are no match for his... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therefore, it can be asserted that knowledge gained from causality is not a priori, rather a posteriori, which is knowledge gained from experience and empirical evidence. One objection to Hume s definition of causality was written by a fellow (omit) named Thomas Reid. His problem with Hume s definition was that it led to absurd conclusions. The example Reid uses is one of night and day. Reid asserts that if one follows Hume s definition of cause, then one can postulate that day is the cause of night, and night is the cause of day, which goes on forever and is circular. Thus, by Reid s account, the definition of cause is absurd, and cannot hold (sp) any value. This cannot be further from the truth. Reid s example is severely (sp) lacking in rational thinking, but one cannot blame him too much due to the time period in which he resided. omit in. The fact of the matter is that day is not the cause of night, nor is night the cause of day. As the Earth rotates on its axis, half of the Earth is bathed in the Sun s light, while the other half is in darkness. This is always the case, even as the Earth spins. Thus the Sun is the cause of both day and night, not day the cause of night and vice versa. Reid s objection now has very little ground to stand on, and it is made even more apparent when one considers certain Alaskan towns, which depending on the season, can experience more than 24 hours of night at a time. We have age discrimination, employment or job discrimination, racial discrimination, gender discrimination, reverse discrimination, sexual discrimination, and others. Prejudice is a negative attitude toward a socially defined group and toward any person perceived to be a member of that group (Burgess, 2003). The purpose of her research was to talk about discriminationand prejudices and the affect they have on our day to day lives. She also defines prejudiceand discrimination and takes a look at their relationship to stereotyping and racism. According to Burgess, stereotyping often leads to prejudice and discrimination, with its definition almost mirroring that of prejudice. Stereotypes or characterizations are generalizations or assumptions that people make about the characteristics of all members of a group, based on an image, often wrong, about what people in that group are like. We are told that it does not allow for individuals to be different, but names them all as one group (Burgess, 2003). Much as her research does, I d like to discuss the different types of discrimination and prejudice and how we might eliminate it. As an abundant source of Grains, fish, and trade, she played a pivotal role as a landing for Darius colossal army against the Greeks; a battleground between Athens and Sparta during the Pelloponessian war; and a prized tributary under Roman supervision. The Roman Emperor, Constantine I, renamed the city after himself and the newly christened Constantinoplegrew to eclipse Rome as the greatest Capital of Europe. Before entering the dragons tower Beowulf tells his followers that he will fight until fate decides which of us [he or the dragon] wins (Beowulf pg. 53). Fate is only a belief in Pagan religion; Christians don t believe in a predetermined destiny. When Beowulf is fighting the dragon and he begins to sense defeat he reflects on a journey into darkness that all men must make, as death ends their few brief hours on earth. (Beowulf pg.54). This journey into darkness alerts the reader that Beowulf believes that his only life is here on earth and will venture on to darkness with no afterlife. Christians believe that there is a life after death in heaven as opposed to Pagans who believe in death as an end of existence. Scattered in the poem the reader can find literary devices including stock epithets, kennings, alliteration, allusions, hyperbole, and imagery. Stock epithets are adjectives that point out a special trait of a character. One example of a stock epithet can be found in line 324 of Beowulf when Grendel is described as being a sin stained demon (Beowulf pg. 42). A kenning is a poetic synonym found in Germanic poems as seen when Beowulf is called the noble protector of all seamen (Beowulf pg.50). Alliteration is the repetition of

  • 41. The Theme Of Death And Change In A Rose For Emily By... William Faulkner once said, Given a choice between grief and nothing, I d choose grief (Brainyquote). He further explains why he d do this in A Rose for Emily ; although the story is not about him, he details the loneliness and selfishness of a poor woman, Miss Emily. Miss Emily is unable to grip the idea of death and suffers great deals of denial. After the death of her father, the townspeople expected her to be in a state of grief but alas she is not. Instead she proceeds to say that her father is very well with her, alive. William Faulkners idea of grieving is clear in this story because he shows his audience that it is better to accept death than to ignore it through the accounts of Miss Emily s journey. William Faulkner s story takes place in the South, during a time period of racial discrimination and major political change. By using reader response criticism, a reader can analyze A Rose for Emily through the aspects of the secret held within the story, racefound through anthropology, and gender found through anthropology. To begin with, one can analyze A Rose for Emily by examining the underlying hidden message found within the story. The hidden message that William Faulkner tried to convey in his story was the themes of death and change. Death looms through the story from the beginning right on through to the end as the narrator begins describing the beginning of Miss Emily s funeral. Miss Emily herself chooses not to accept the fate of death when her extremely controlling father passes away. Miss Emily met them at the door, dressed` as usual and with no trace of grief on her face. She told them that her father was not dead (Faulkner). This quote from A Rose for Emily clearly shows how Miss Emily tried to defy death by holding on to her father s corpse and treating it as if he were still living and how fearful she was of change. She later killed Homer to ensure that he would never leave her. Miss Emily continually tried to prevent any sort of change through death or other means from occurring in her town. She was so frightened of change that she wouldn t allow the city to put numbers on her house for mail. Miss Emily alone refused to let them fasten the metal numbers above her door and
