My presentation from the ND Education Academy.
Many people think that we have a student learning problem in schools. I believe we have an adult learning problem. To truly increase student achievement it must start with the adults in the building. We must develop a culture of learning that begins with teachers and trickles down to students. In this session I will provide practical ideas that will help your district create a focus on learning.

Planning District-Wide Technology Professional DevelopmentClif Mims
This presentation will describe the approaches to designing and implementing district-wide professional development in a high-need, Title I school district. The workshop will share approaches to supporting teacher learning and teacher leaders, and also highlight technologies and projects that have been used in schools.
The information contained in these slides was shared during NAEYC's 2016 Annual Conference held in Los Angeles, CA November 2-5, 2016. These slides consolidate much of the differentiated instructional information shared by SFL's Director of Early Childhood Education Initiatives, Kamna Seth, and Senior Manager, Gauri Shirali-Deo. The topic presented, Differentiated Instructional Startegies: Meeting the needs of ALL children in early childhood programs, discussed strategies for how inclusive early childhood settings can effectively meet the needs of all students including English language learners, children with developmental delays, and children who need additional enrichment.

The overall aim of the IDentifEYE project is to enhance student online safety by empowering student online resilience. But, you will not instruct students. You will instruct teachers. The reason for this is scalability. In order to reach students in a scalable, structured way there are only two gateways: parents and teachers. Because teachers are organized and have a far larger reach than parents they are the ones you will deal with.

At the simplest, benchmarking means “improving ourselves by learning from others.A measurement of the quality of an organization’s policies, products, programs and strategies and their comparison with standard measurements of its peers.
It is a process for obtaining a measure where ‘BENCHMARKS’ are ‘WHAT’ and ‘BENCHMARKING’ is ‘HOW
Assessment is the process of gathering and discussing information from multiple and diverse sources in order to develop a deep understanding of what students know, understand, and can do with their knowledge as a result of their educational experiences; the process culminates when assessment results are used to improve subsequent learning.

Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.

11. Laurillard ’s Four aspects of teaching-
learning process
Diana Laurillard suggests that there are four main aspects of the
teaching-learning. She proposed both learning theory and a practical
framework for designing educational environments
According to her a pedagogic strategy has to consider different forms of
communication and associated mental activities:
Discussion
Interaction
Adaptation
Reflection
8/17/2017Anjali & Neha
11
12. Laurillard ’s Framework of teaching-
learning process
(1) Discussion
between the teacher and the learner
Teachers' and learners' conception should be mutually accessible
Both should agree on learning objectives
(2) Interaction
between the learner and the environment defined by the
teacher
Teacher must "adapt to world", i.e. create an environment
adapted to the learning task given to the learner
Teacher must focus on support for task and give
appropriate feedback to the learner.
8/17/2017Anjali & Neha
12
13. Laurillard ’s Framework of teaching
learning process
(3) Adaptation
of the learners actions and of the teacher's constructed
environment.
Teacher must adapt objectives with regards to existing
conceptions
Learners must integrate feedback and link it to his own
conceptions
(4) Reflection
of the learner's performance by both teacher and learner
Teacher should support the learner to revise his conceptions and
to adapt the task to learning needs
Learners should reflect with all stages of the learning process
(initial concepts, tasks, objectives, feedback, ...)
8/17/2017Anjali & Neha
13
14. Gagne’s Nine Instructional Events
Reception : gaining attention
Expectancy :informing learners about objectives
Retrieval : stimulating recall of prior learning
Selective perception :presenting the stimulation
Semantic Encoding : providing learning guidance
Responding : eliciting performances
Reinforcement : providing feedback
Retrieval of information : assessing performance
Generalization : enhancing retention and transfer
