3. BLACKBOARD LEARNING MANAGEMENT
SYSTEM
It is a virtual learning environment and Course
Management System , developed by Blackboard Inc.
It is a Web-based software which features Course
Management. Customizable open architecture,
scalable design that allows integration with student
information systems and authentication protocols. It
may be installed on local servers or hosted by
Blackboard ASP Solutions. Its main purpose are to
add online elements to courses, traditionally,
delivered face-to-face and to developed completely
online course with few or no face-to-face meetings.

5. ►Announcements :- Professors and Teachers
may post announcements for students to read
. These can be found under the
announcement tab or can be made to pop-up
when a student acts accesses blackboard .
►Chat :- This function allows
those students who are online to chat in real-
time with other students in their class-
section.
6. ► Discussions :- This feature allows
students and Professors to create a
discussion thread and reply to ones already
created.
► Mail :- Blackboard mail allows
students and teachers to send mail to one
another. This feature supports mass
emailing to students in a course.
7. ■ Course Content :- This feature allows teachers to
post articles , assignments, videos etc.
■ Calendar :- Teachers can use this function
to post due details for assignments and tests.
■ Learning Models :- This feature often used for
strictly online classes. It allows professors to
post different lessons for students to access.
8. ■ Assignments :- This feature allows assignments to
be posted and student to submit assignments
online.
■ Assessments :- This tab allows teachers to post
quizzes and exams . It also allows students to
access them through the Internet.
■ Media Library :- Videos and other media may be
posted under this function.

Blackboard can be accessed from the Internet at any time
and anywhere, students can retry course materials
including assignments , lecture notes , slides , audio/
visual aids. They can submit their assignments as soon as
they complete.
◊ Quick Feedback :-
There are two principal types of feedback provided to
students through blackboard. Faculty – initiated feedback
and automated feed back.

Blackboard tracks usage of courses and posts , these
result in the Course Statistics Area Instructors can obtain
statistics on all students or individual students with the
course. Individual assignments can also be tracked. Date
and time stamps are included in the submitted , modified
section of the assignment allowing for easy identification
of last assignments.
◊ Skill Building :-
Skill Building is one of the additional skills that are
promoted with the use of blackboard. These skills include
organization and time management.
