The Black Death was a disease that killed around 33% of people in Europe from 1347 to 1350. It likely started in Asia and was carried by fleas that lived on rats. The fleas would transfer the disease, now known as the bubonic plague, to humans. People tried to hide or burn areas to stop the spread, but many died from the disease which caused black blotches on the skin. It took around 150 years for Europe's population and infrastructure to recover from the massive loss of life.
