4. INTRODUCTION
 The air envelope that surrounds the earth is known as
atmosphere.
Here, we can see the structure of atmosphere in detail.

5. Structure of Atmosphere
 From the earth’s surface upwards, there is a change in
temperature.
There are different layers of atmosphere.
They are: troposphere, stratosphere,
mesosphere and thermosphere.

6. TROPOSPHERE
 Troposphere is the atmospheric layer which is close to
the earth’s surface.
 It is derived from the Greek word ‘Tropos’ means to
‘turn’.
 The traditional zone between the troposphere and
stratosphere known as tropopause.

7. STRATOSPHERE
 It is second layer of atmosphere.
 The ultraviolet rays of the sun absorb the oxygen atoms which
laid the formation of ozone in this part of the atmosphere.
 Ozone layer lies in stratosphere.
 The transitional zone above the stratosphere is strato- pause.

8. MESOSPHERE
 It is extended from 50km-80km above the sea level.
 It is the transitional zone where the temperature remains
steady.
THERMOSPHERE
 It is the area where the temperature increases abruptly.
 The part of the atmosphere, from about80km-400km
above the earth surface is called ionosphere.

9. CONCLUSION
Air extends to a height of several kilometers from the
surface of the earth.
The atmosphere is held to the earth by gravitational
force.
