BIOMECHANICSBy: Jesse Stone
WHAT IS
BIOMECH
ANICS
 Biomechanics is the science of
movement of a living body, such as how
muscles, bones, tendons, and ligaments
work together to produce movement.
 Biomechanists use the principles of
physical mechanics combined with the
principles of biology to understand how
people move and how they can move
more efficiently and why we sometimes
get injured and how can we reduce
injuries.
 A strong grasp of science such as scientific rules
and methods
 Critical thinking skills that use logic and
reasoning to identify the strengths and weakness
of alternative solutions
 Operations analysis, be able to analyze needs and
product requirements
 A strong sense of judgment and decision making
to consider the relative costs and benefits of
potential actions
 Good time management to allow for proper time
for projects to get done
Adapt or design computer hardware or software for medical science uses
Adapt or
design
Research new materials to be used for products, such as an artificial
limb or a different type of workout equipmentResearch
Develop models or computer simulations of human behavioral systems to
obtain data for measuring or controlling movements of the bodyDevelop
 In the biomechanics industry you are mainly in
an office style work environment all day.
 You would conduct research in a lab and
research and test ideas and theories.
 It is similar to a normal 9-5 job, where you
clock in, work, and clock out.
 Most days would take place inside, with going
outside occasionally to test in the real world
Ranges from
$51,000-
$99,000
An average
salary of
$65,779
An average
hourly pay
of $43.25
Expected
growth is 5%
 There are possible job opportunities all around the world
but the most common I saw are in California
 Another popular location was Ohio
 There we also a few jobs located right here in Arizona
Pros
• It is a diverse job that combines mathematics, and sciences, with
muscle movements and knowledge of how the body works.
• There are many different career paths due to its natural diversity
Cons
• It is predominantly a desk job
• It takes about 5 years to get into the field
• You start of getting paid very minimally
A bachelor degree in
kinesiology and in
mechanical
engineering
Undergraduate
program for math and
science
Internships and real-
life experience will
help get a higher
paying job
A masters in
biomechanics
Northern Arizona University
 Requirements: 2.5 gpa, and a
bachelors degree

degree
 Cost: $54,600 a year
 Admission Rate: 6.6%
