3. INTRODUCTION
• What are Biodegradable Materials?
Are materials capable of being broken down
(decomposed) rapidly by the action of microorganisms.
Biodegradable substances include food scraps, cotton,
wool, wood, human and animal waste, manufactured
products based on natural materials (such as paper,
and vegetable-oil based soaps).
4. ACTIVITY 1:COMPARING PACKING MATERIALS
• Objective: To see which kind of foam decomposes in
the presence of water and the effectiveness of the
foam in packaging materials
5. ACTIVITY 1:COMPARING PACKING
MATERIALS •النتائج
• Conclusions
• White Foam is made from Natural Polymer (Corn Starch)
• Green Foam is made from Syntactic Polymer
• Both of them are effective for packing fragile items

9. ACTIVITY 4: MEASURING THE
DEGRADATION RATE OF
BIODEGRADABLE MARTIALS
•األهداف
•Testing the Previously made films and gels in
Boiling water, Base and acids.
•To make the film the sample was not covered so that the
HCL will evaporate
•The both gels were covered and hence the HCL was
retained
10. • The Degredation was fastest in boiling water followed by
acid and base
• The fastest to degrade is the 5% gelatin film because of its
low concentration

11. ACTIVITY 5: DESIGNING A MEDICINE
DELIVERY DEVICE
• Objective: To test the dissolving of Degradable materials in
acidic medium and release of the dye in the material that is
similar to the decomposition of medical capsules in the
stomach and release active materials
• We used a dropper to take 2 milli of the Calginate in Calcium
Cloride Solution
• We filtered the beads using filtered paper and conical flask
• We Dyed the beads with multiple colors in each battery dish and
we poured the beads in the flask which contained Sodium citrate
12. PRODUCT IDEA
• For elderly people, medications can be a lifeline to good health or a
disaster waiting to happen. When medicine is expired, medication can be
ineffective, or sometimes the results can be deadly.
• Through our Expiro-Medicine Sign we are going to help old people be
aware of the expired medicines through a simple tool that will give
indication whether the medicine is ineffective or cannot be taken anymore
and should be replaced.
• Transparent container divided into two pieces, each piece contains
biodegradable capsule encapsulated with certain dye.
• - Make further studies on different biodegradable materials
• - Commercialize our product to be synthesized with all medicine packages.
