3. BIODEGRADABLE MATERIALS: IS THE DECOMPOSITION OF
MATERIALS BY BACTERIA ,FUNGI OR OTHER BIOLOGICAL
MEANS INTO NONTOXIC MATERIALS.

AND WHITE FOAM PEANUTS
THEN IMMERSE BOTH PIECES
IN WATER. THE WHITE ONE
DEGRADED BECAUSE IT WAS
BIODEGRADABLE AND THE
OTHER ONE IS NON –
BIODEGRADABLE
We Packed an egg in a plastic
bag using both packing
materials then drop test both
The result :both of the packing
materials egg cracked from 2
meters
The conclusion : both protected
the egg but we cant use
biodegradable material because
it decompose .

BIODEGRADABLE MATERIALS AND
COMPARING THEIR MECHANICAL
PROPERTIES
WE USE HCL AND GELATINE CAPSULES TO MAKE 2 FILMS
WITH DIFFERENT CONCENTRATIONS OF GELATINE 5% AND 10
%, ALSO WE MADE A GEL WITH 20% CONCENTRATIONS.
7. ACTIVITY 4: MEASURING THE
DEGRADATION RATES OF
BIODEGRADABLE MATERIALS
• WE MEASURED THE DEGRADATION RATES OF DIFFERENT
BIODEGRADABLE MATERIALS IN DIFFERENT SOLUTIONS
• CONCLUSION: ALL BIODEGRADABLE MATERIALS DEGRADE FAST IN
BOILING WATER, AND IT DEGRADE IN ACIDIC SOLUTIONS FASTER
THAN BASE SOLUTIONS.

8. DESIGN PROJECT : DESIGNING A
MEDICINE RELEASE CAPSULES
• WE MADE MEDICINE CAPSULES FROM SODIUM ALGINATE
AND CALCIUM CHLORIDE.
• THEN WE PUT THEM IN SODIUM CITRATE TO DEGRADE AS
THEY CAPSULES DEGRADE IN OUR STOMACH.
9. POOL CHLORINE CAPSULE
I SAW THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH CLEANING THE
POOL EVERYDAY SO WE DECIDED TO THINK ABOUT A
SOLUTION FOR CLEANING THE POOL WITHOUT EFFORT.
AS WE LEARNED FROM OUR WORKSHOP THAT BIOPLASTIC
TAKE SOME TIME TO DEGRADE, WE WANTED TO MAKE A
BIOPLASTIC CAPSULE WITH CHLORINE CONTENT.
10. POOL CHLORINE CAPSULE
METHODS AND MATERIALS
WE WILL NEED TO USE 3 BIODEGRADABLE PLASTIC CAPSULES
AND THEN PUT POOL CHLORINE IN EACH ONE AND INSIDE
EACH OTHER AND THEN IT WILL DISSOLVE IN THE POOL
FOR A WEEK WITHOUT ANY EFFORT
11. CONCLUSION
• WE LEARNED A LOT OF NEW THINGS ABOUT
BIODEGRADABLE BUT OVERALL WE HAD A LOT OF FUN AND
WE EXPERIENCED A LOT OF NEW THINGS AND WE HAD FUN
THROUGH THE WAY AND WE HOPE WE CONTINUE ON WITH
KNOWLEDGE
