Like many startups, Coursera began its data storage journey with MySQL, a familiar and industry-proven database. As Coursera's user base grew from several thousand to many millions, we found that MySQL provided limited availability and restricted our ability to scale easily. After evaluating several NoSQL databases, including MongoDB, DynamoDB and HBase, we elected to transition to Cassandra . Cassandra's relative maturity, masterless architecture (for availability), tunable consistency, and stable low-latency performance made it a clear winner for our needs.

Alfresco Summit 2014 - Crafter CMS - Case European Bank
This document summarizes a case study of a European bank implementing a new web content management system using Crafter and Alfresco. The bank wanted to introduce a central WCM to replace different disconnected systems and allow custom content across websites and applications. Key aspects included unifying content, custom components and templates, integration with other systems, and good performance. The implemented high-level architecture included Alfresco and Crafter Studio for content management, Crafter Delivery nodes for publishing, and Solr/MongoDB for search and social features. The results were successful integration across systems, fast page loads, and refined content management capabilities.
Designing OpenStack Architectures
A well-architected cloud provides a stable IT environment that offers easy access to needed resources, usage-based expenses, extra capacity on demand, disaster recovery, and a secure environment, but a well-architected cloud does not magically build itself. It requires careful consideration of a multitude of factors, both technical and non-technical. There is no single architecture that is "right" for an OpenStack cloud deployment. OpenStack can be used for any number of different purposes, and each of them has its own particular requirements and architectural peculiarities. The use cases covered in this talk include:
• General purpose: A cloud built with common components that should address 80% of common use cases.
• Compute focused: A cloud designed to address compute intensive workloads such as high performance computing (HPC).
• Storage focused: A cloud focused on storage intensive workloads such as data
analytics with parallel file systems.
• Network focused: A cloud depending on high performance and reliable networking, such as a content delivery network (CDN).

AngularJS is a framework for building client-side web applications. It uses HTML as the template language and extends HTML attributes with directives. AngularJS applications are made up of modules that contain controllers, services, and directives to add dynamic behavior. Let’s talk about powerful conversations! We all know how to lead a constructive conversation, right? Then why is it so difficult to have those conversations with people at work, especially those in powerful positions that show resistance to change?
Learning to control and direct conversations takes understanding and practice.
We can combine our innate empathy with our analytical skills to gain a deeper understanding of complex situations at work. Join this session to learn how to prepare for difficult conversations and how to improve our agile conversations in order to be more influential without power. We will use Dave Gray’s Empathy Mapping, Argyris’ Ladder of Inference and The Four Rs from Agile Conversations (Squirrel and Fredrick).
