The Civil Rights Era, Part 28. Public School Desegregation in th.docxrtodd643
The Civil Rights Era, Part 2
8. Public School Desegregation in the South after 1954
After Brown v. Board, many public schools in the southern states rolled out an array of measures designed to resist the ruling.
Some schools created extra layers of administrative delays designed to stop implementation of the ruling.
Other schools suddenly transferred public property to newly created, all-white private academies.
A group of southern states--Virginia, Alabama, Mississippi, and Georgia--resurrected pre-Civil War era laws and passed state resolutions declaring their right to interpose their authority between the people and the US government.
The president of the United States, a Republican named Dwight D. Eisenhower, did not make any public endorsement or comment about the court’s ruling.
But this soon changed when the governor of Arkansas publicly declared that he would oppose the Supreme Court’s ruling about school desegregation.
In September of 1957 in Little Rock, Arkansas, the governor of the state decided to impede the desegregation order by ordering the National Guard to block the entrance of 9 African American high school students to the local high school.
After several weeks of this tense standoff, President Eisenhower sent 1000 soldiers from the 101st Airborne, an elite unit of Army paratroopers, to enforce the desegregation ruling in Little Rock.
Although Eisenhower had remained silent on the ruling earlier, he now defended his actions by delivering a televised address to the nation saying that federal authority had to be enforced over state authority.
Many historians have commented that events in Little Rock in 1957 had a Cold War context too.
This was because during the tense standoff Eisenhower also stated publicly that the “enemies” of America, by which he meant the Soviet Union, were “gloating” over the situation in Little Rock because it was an example of inequalities in our system.
President Eisenhower was the first American president to use armed troops to support African American Civil Rights since Reconstruction after the Civil War.
9. Martin Luther King Jr. and Non-Violent Civil Disobedience
In 1956 one year before the standoff at Little Rock, Martin Luther King Jr. had entered the national spotlight after he organized a bus boycott in Montgomery, Alabama, that had lasted 381 days.
King, who was a Baptist pastor, and several other leaders of the African American community in Montgomery had mobilized African American residents to boycott the city bus lines after Rosa Parks (who was a secretary for the local chapter of the NAACP) was arrested and fined after refusing to surrender her seat on a city bus to white patrons.
After the 381-day boycott, the bus lines in Montgomery had agreed to desegregate passenger buses.
Martin Luther King Jr. was from Atlanta, Georgia and his dad had been the leader of a large Baptist congregation in the city with ties to the middle class.
King attended and graduated from More.

The primary sources include documents that are legal, eyewitness accounts, results experiments, pieces of creative writing interviews and newsgroups. One of the historical events in the history of America is the black civil rights movements. Many primary sources give the evidence of the black civil right movements in the United States of America. They are as follow;
The KZSU Project South Interviews
This collection H transcripts and audio recordings of meetings and interviews with Civil Rights workers in the South. They were recorded by several students from Stanford who are affiliated with the campus radio station KZSU. It was during the summer of 1965 when the project was sponsored by the Institute of American History at Stanford. The collection has a lot of information that are related black history. They include; interviews of members of the Congress of Racial Equality, the Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party, and the Student Non-violent Coordinating Committee. We also have the transcripts of formal and informal remarks of persons working with smaller blacks associated with the civil rights movement and transcribed action tapes of civil rights workers canvassing voters, conducting freedom schools.
Mississippi Freedom Summer Project 1964: Digital Collection
These collections have the records of the history of 1964's "Freedom Summer," when volunteers came together to be trained to register black voters in Mississippi. Three volunteers were subsequently killed, bringing about attention to racial issues and serving as a catalyst for change. The collection includes several documents, including reports from the FBI and articles from Ohio about the black civil rights movement at the time.
Negro Traveler's Green Book, 1937-1964
This was a travel guide series published from 1936 to 1964 by Victor H. Green. The author intended to provide African American motorists and the tourists with the information necessary to board, dine, and sightsee comfortably and safely given it were an era of segregation. The New York Public Library presents digital editions of the 1937-1964 green books.
The Nicest Kids in Town: American Bandstand, Rock 'n' Roll, and the Struggle for Civil Rights in 1950s Philadelphia
This primary source has the scholarly book from University of California Press. It contains images, video, and news clippings documenting how American Bandstand, the first national television program directed at teens, discriminated against young black individuals, and how black youths protested this discrimination.

Elevating Tactical DDD Patterns Through Object CalisthenicsDorra BARTAGUIZ
After immersing yourself in the blue book and its red counterpart, attending DDD-focused conferences, and applying tactical patterns, you're left with a crucial question: How do I ensure my design is effective? Tactical patterns within Domain-Driven Design (DDD) serve as guiding principles for creating clear and manageable domain models. However, achieving success with these patterns requires additional guidance. Interestingly, we've observed that a set of constraints initially designed for training purposes remarkably aligns with effective pattern implementation, offering a more ‘mechanical’ approach. Let's explore together how Object Calisthenics can elevate the design of your tactical DDD patterns, offering concrete help for those venturing into DDD for the first time!
Securing your Kubernetes cluster_ a step-by-step guide to success !KatiaHIMEUR1
Today, after several years of existence, an extremely active community and an ultra-dynamic ecosystem, Kubernetes has established itself as the de facto standard in container orchestration. Thanks to a wide range of managed services, it has never been so easy to set up a ready-to-use Kubernetes cluster.
However, this ease of use means that the subject of security in Kubernetes is often left for later, or even neglected. This exposes companies to significant risks.
In this talk, I'll show you step-by-step how to secure your Kubernetes cluster for greater peace of mind and reliability.
Builder.ai Founder Sachin Dev Duggal's Strategic Approach to Create an Innova...Ramesh Iyer
In today's fast-changing business world, Companies that adapt and embrace new ideas often need help to keep up with the competition. However, fostering a culture of innovation takes much work. It takes vision, leadership and willingness to take risks in the right proportion. Sachin Dev Duggal, co-founder of Builder.ai, has perfected the art of this balance, creating a company culture where creativity and growth are nurtured at each stage.
Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).

3. Ruby Bridges Ruby Bridges Ruby Bridges Hall (born Ruby Nell Bridges September 8, 1954 in Tylertown, Mississippi) moved with her parents to New Orleans, Louisiana at the age of two. In 1960, when she was 5 years old, her parents responded to a call from the NAACP and volunteered her to participate in the integration of the New Orleans School system. She became the first black child to attend William Frantz Elementary School, and the first black elementary school child to attend a white school in Louisiana.
4. Freedom Riders The Freedom Rides were a series of nonviolent, direct demonstrations performed in 1961 as part of the civil movement. Volunteers, African American and white, many of whom were college students, called Freedom Riders , rode in interstate buses into the segregated southern United States to test the 1960 United States Supreme Court decision Boynton v. Virginia , (1960) 364 U.S. 454, which outlawed racial segregation in interstate transportation facilities, including bus stations and railroad terminals. A total of 436 Freedom Riders were arrested for trespassing, unlawful assembly, violating state and local Jim Crow laws, etc. All but a very small number were sponsored by the Congress of Racial Equality (CORE) while the others belonged to the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC). They followed on the heels of dramatic "sit-ins" against segregated lunch counters conducted by students and youth throughout the south beginning in 1960.
5. Tuskegee airmen Facts about the Tuskegee airmen The Tuskegee Airmen were dedicated, determined young men who volunteered to become America's first Black military airmen Those who possessed the physical and mental qualifications and were accepted for aviation cadet training were trained initially to be pilots, and later to be either pilots, navigators, or bombardiers. Tuskegee University was awarded the U.S. Army Air Corps contract to help train America’s first Black military aviators because it had already invested in the development of an airfield, had a proven civilian pilot training program and its graduates performed highest on flight aptitude exams. Moton Field is named for Tuskegee University's second President, Dr. Robert R. Moton who served with distinction from 1915-1935. The Airmen were delpoyed during the presidential administration of Dr. Frederick Douglas Patterson (1935-1953). The all-Black, 332nd Fighter Group consisted originally of four fighter squadrons, the 99th, the 100th, the 301st and the 302nd. From 1940-1946, some 1,000 Black pilots were trained at Tuskegee.
