Ruby Bridges helped end segregation in schools in 1960 when she was the first black student to attend an all-white elementary school in New Orleans. Though she faced threats from white residents who opposed integration, her white teacher Mrs. Henry treated her kindly. Ruby's bravery in facing such racism inspired children of all races to believe in equal treatment.
