ORGANIZATION AND GOVERNANCE
2.1 ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION
With the aim and commitment of providing quality training M/s. CADD Technologies
School of Design came in to inception in the year of 2000. This is our 18th year in the
CAD/CAM Training Industry and having a strong planning in expanding our legs across
globe in near future. The company is established by the dynamic group of directors who
are in to Academic and Research field for more than a decade with a vision of providing
Industrial requirement based engineering solutions by which it will have their own
presence in overall growth of the Manufacturing and Civil Industry to whom the company
got tie-up. We, M/s .CADD Technologies School of Design Private Limited, is an
Authorized Training cum Certification centre of Autodesk, PTC University, Bentley, TATA
Technologies and Innovent Technologies (ANSYS). We are providing Training cum
engineering solutions to the students as well as companies in the key areas like Design
Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Digital Prototyping and
Building Information Modelling. We have trained more than 20,000 students so far (Both
In-house as well as On-site) and have successfully placed sizable number of candidates
in various domestic and MNCs to whom we got tie-up. We also set up a Technical
Advisory committee, which consists of eminent personalities from the leading industries
of Coimbatore as well as professors and lecturers of various colleges who are guiding us

2.2 ABOUT “BHARATH FORMULA KARTING SEASON-2”
Bharath Formula Karting is a competition powered by CADD Technologies School of
Design Private Limited (BFKCT) to explore the theoretical and technical skill of
engineering and diploma students. The main motto of this competition is to design,
analysis, documentation and manufacturing of kart (Art to Product). The competition
takes place in two stages; Firstly, design validation stage is known as Virtual Round.
Secondly, Champion Round which consists of Static, Dynamic and Endurance Test. The
participating teams have liberty to exhibits their Innovation and New Finding allied with
rule book. BFKCT provides a platform to budding young engineers to exhibits their
innovative ideas into reality. BFKCT forum encouraged the team members to undergo
the literature survey before design and manufacture of kart vehicle. Furthermore, it is
advised to the team members to fabricate the kart with experts and faculty advisor
suggestion but not involved them physically to fabricate the kart. BFKCT recognize the
team building activity and individual talent by providing various awards in different
categories. Similarly, BFKCT offers Internships, Implant and Project in reputed industry
for the selected team members to shape their carrier. According to the various literature
and knowledge gaining, further students has to do the design calculation of chassis,
brake, transmission and steering geometry and carryout the various analysis for
validation.

CHAPTER 3
BFKCT RULES AND REGULATIONS
3.1 RULES AUTHORITY
The team must mandatory to follow each and every rules, regulation and restriction given
in the rule book. Bharath Formula Karting reserves right to modify each and every rules,
regulation and restriction associated with the Karting event. Breach of rules by any
individual or as a team or representative member may be liable to be penalized severely
and eliminate or withdrawing or debarring of the team from the competition. Furthermore,
a withdrawal of award / awards as well.
3.2 VALIDITY OF THE RULES
The rules, regulation and restriction will be same throughout the event and any
amendments will immediately be made known to all the participating teams through
emails and the same will be uploaded on the website www.bfkct.in.
3.3 RULES COMPLIANCE
By registering Bharath Formula Karting (BFKCT) event, the team caption, members of
the team as individuals, faculty advisors and other authority of the College/University
agree to comply with and will be bounded by the rules, regulation, restriction,
interpretations or procedures issued or announced by BFKCT. All team members, faculty
advisors and university/college authorities are required to cooperate with, and follow all
instructions, penalties and results from competition organizers, officials and judges.
Disputes if any are subject to Coimbatore jurisdiction only.
3.4 LOOPHOLES
BFKCT strongly besides with student safety is prime and most import factor, so, BFKCT
reserve the rights to resolve the superficial loopholes to improve the safety of the students
to successful completion of the competition. It is documental or virtually not viable to

frame the rules to covers all the possible questions and incidents to design the vehicle’s
parameters or conduct of the event. So, BFKCT always enforce the student safety.
3.5 PARTICIPATING IN THE EVENT
The registered team, team caption, members, participant individuals, faculty advisor and
college representatives of colleges and universities who are all present on competition
venue are considered as Participant in the Event. If earlier departure from the event
venue due to problem in kart, medical reason, not cleared in any technical inspection or
any other personal and official or non-personal and official reason considering as earlier
withdrawing the team from the competition. At any circumstances, the registration fee is
not adjustable or refundable.
Teams are advised to submit the Technical document on time:
The team members are advised to submit the document in given schedule time to
avoid the delay of publishing the points and notifications. If any team wants to extend the
time due to their university examination and other academic activity, please send a mail
(or) request letter through team advisor and forwarded by the head of the department /
head of the institution / registrar stating the actual reason for requesting time extension
and so on.
3.6 RIGHT TO IMPOUND
Bharath Formula Karting (BFKCT) reserves the right to impound to any registered vehicle
in onsite or during the event or at any time or at the various stage during the competition
for inspect and examine by organizers, officials and technical inspectors.
3.7 VIOLATIONS OF INTENT
Any team and team members who does not comply with the applicable rules, regulation
and restriction requirements of this event are subject to penalties / disqualifying.
Questions about the intent or meaning of a rule may be addressed to the organizers.

3.8 BEHAVIORAL ATTITUDE
MISBEHAVIOR
Misbehaviour activity in any form of the registered team, individual or representative of
the college / university will receive a penalty of 100 points or disqualifying or eliminated
from the event depending on the attitude of team members.
ARGUMENTS WITH OFFICIALS
Argument with or disobedience to any official may result in the elimination of team from
the competition. All members of the team may be immediately escorted from the
competition venue.
SMOKING AND ILLEGAL MATERIAL
Alcohol, illegal drugs, weapons or other illegal material are prohibited on the event site
during the competition. This rule will be in effect during the entire competition. Any
violation of this rule by a team member will cause the expulsion of the entire team. This
applies to both team members and faculty advisors. Any use of drugs or the use of alcohol
by an underage individual, will be reported to the local authorities for prosecution.
3.9 VEHICLE RELATED
KART MOVEMENT
Kart vehicles must be pushed or pulled by use bar move the vehicle from the pit to racing
circuit. The vehicle are not allowed to driving in normal working or walking or pedestrian
approachable places. The kart vehicle allows to drive only on places prescribed by the
BFKCT or Race Circuit authorities for various rounds. Violating the rules and regulations
in any form lead to penalty of 100 points.

LIST OF PREFABRICATED PARTS
All the teams have liberty to buy the readymade / fabricated parts to use for their kart as
listed below. If we found that the entire vehicle is fabricated by the professional and
brought from them for participating the event, the team will be disqualify from the
event without any notification. Furthermore, any superfluous parts fitted in the vehicle
must be removed from the kart to proceed further. Springs, Brake drum, disc, calliper
and brake holding assembly, master cylinder, Steering gear box, Steering column,
Steering wheel, Wheel rims &Tyres, tie rod ends, Engine, Knuckle, Air Filters, Chain
Guard, Break Lights, Batteries, Toggle Switches Fuel tank & exhaust system.
3.10 PENALTIES
Violation of Rules: Penalty of 100 points imposed / disqualifies the team from the
event.
Misbehaviour/Arguments with officials or volunteers: Penalty of
100 points / disqualification.
Tampering with TI sticker or making restricted changes in vehicle after TI:
Direct Disqualifying
ENTRY WITHOUT PERMISSION ON TRACKS: 100 points/ disqualification.
DAMAGES: Intentional damage to track/tent/other resources will result to the
penalty of INR 1,00,000/- or cost of actual damage whichever is high. Furthermore,
prize and certificates will not be awarded or issued to the particular team and team
member unless or until the damaged or penalty amounts are completely settled to
the administrator.
OTHERS: BFKCT organizers have full rights to modify the penalties or penalties
points listed in the various events.

3.11 REMONSTRATION
BFKCT will recognize the student’s involvement and efforts in manufacturing the kart by
spending hard work and valuable hours and days. The Bharath Formula Karting organizer
will make nevertheless effort to review all questions and disputes to resolve problems
quickly and efficiently.
PRELIMINARY REVIEW – REQUIRED
If a team has a question about scoring, judging, policies or any official action it must be
brought to the BFKCT organizers notice for an informal preliminary review before a
objection can be filed.
CAUSE FOR REMONSTRATION
A team may object any rule interpretation, score or official action (unless specifically
excluded from remonstration) which they feel has caused some actual, non-trivial harm
to their team, or has had a substantive effect on their score. Teams may not object rule
interpretations or actions that have not caused them any substantive damage.
WHO CAN FILE THE REMONSTRATION
Only team captain or Faculty Advisor on behalf of whole team can file the remonstration.
Other team members should not accompany or interfere filing of such remonstration stand
cancelled.
REMONSTRATION FORMAT AND FORFEIT
All remonstration must be filed in writing and presented to the organizer of BFKCT by the
team captain or Faculty Advisor. If remonstration with notification is not done with
organizer, the team will not be considered and penalty of 100 points imposed to the team
and remonstrations is rejected or stand cancelled. The team violating the above rules
and regulation, BFKCT reserved the rights to disqualify the team at any point of time.

REMONSTRATION PERIOD
Remonstration concerning any aspect of the event must be filed within 30 minutes from
end of the event shall be considered.

TEAM REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS
4.1 Team Requirement
The team registering in Bharath Formula Karting must have a Team Name, Logo,
Captain and the Faculty Advisor (Not below Assistant Professor Cadre). There is no
limitation on the number of registrations from same college / university. Team size should
not exceed 35 members per team (For additional member / student refer 4.10).
4.2 Eligibility Criteria
Undergraduate and Technical students from engineering degree/diploma streams are
eligible to registering and participating in the event. Bharath Formula Karting is an
engineering event rather than a race, our aim and motto is to bring up their innovative
idea from young engineering minds to nurture and motive them to fabricating the vehicle
using engineering knowledge and practices. Every individual team members aligned their
good self on their expertise in the field of interest to participate the event in successful
manner. The team members who have registering the event must be currently studying
undergoing UG or PG or Diploma course in order to participate in the competition.
4.3 TEAM NAME
Each team must have unique team name. However, the teams are free to choose any
team name as per their choice. The BFKCT organizer found that any team name
repeated, the second registering team are asked to select alternate name for their team.

4.4 KART NUMBER
Kart Number will be provided by the BFKCT organizer. Teams will be informed about their
kart number, once registration is closed.
4.5 INTEGRATED TEAMS
As this is an engineering event. So, integrated teams are highly appreciable.
4.6 DEFINITION OF INTEGRATED TEAMS
Integrated team refers that, if any team captain or faculty advisor wants to form a team
with various engineering discipline (Mech, Auto, EEE, ECE etc.,) students from their
institution or other institution. The idea of forming the integrated team is to share the
knowledge and utilizing the resources. Furthermore, it will help the students for team
building nature.
4.7 FACULTY ADVISOR
Each team must have one Faculty Advisor appointed by the Department / College /
University. The faculty advisors are strictly not allowed to involve in static and
dynamic events. Similarly, the faculty advisor(s) should not involve directly or indirectly
in design, analysis, and documentation, fabricate and repair of any part of the Kart and
ensure that the kart is manufactured by participating team members only.
4.8 TEAM REGISTRATION
Online registration will be available 24x7 on our website (www.bfkct.in) from 25st March
2019. During the registration, students must pay the registration fee (NO ELIMINATION
IN VIRTUAL ROUND).BFKCT will provide accounts to all the teams on BFKCT web portal
and all the relevant information/announcements will be published in the respective
accounts and also BFKCT official website. Teams will be upload and download the

payment proof, reports etc., or send to official email with mentioning their team name, kart
number in subject.
4.9 REGISTRATION AGREEMENT
By registering in BFKCT event, the Team Captain / Team Member / Faculty Advisor /
College Management agree with the rules and regulations of BFKCT. They understand
that all the information provided in the registration documents and online registration
forms are correct to the best of their knowledge and also they accept that the team would
undertake all the activities without help of any professionals directly or indirectly. In case
of any violation of the rules and regulations specified in the Rule Book, the teams are
liable for disciplinary actions as per the decision of the BFKCT organizing Management.
The teams are also liable for any loss of documentation / communication on part of
discrepancy in the information as provided in registration.
4.10 REGISTRATION FEE
Registration fee for the event is INR 25,000 + 18 % (GST) per team (30 Members). Total
Registration Fee INR 25,000 + INR 4,500 (GST) = INR 29,500.00
(INR 983 / Student - Team of 30). The registration amount is non-refundable or
adjustable at any circumstances.
For Extra member (on special request): INR 1000 + 18 % (GST) / Member (Maximum
5 Members only allowed and also the total team size should not exceed more than 35
Members)
Payment Flexibility: BFKCT always support to student community. So, the payment
flexibility provided in two instalments. First instalment student can pay INR 10,000/-
during the registration. Second instalment of INR 19,500/- can be made on or before 20th
June 2019. If any special request from students it may extend up to 30th june 2019.
There is NO ELIMINATION IN VIRTUAL ROUND.

4.11 MODE OF PAYMENT
The registration amount can be paid through only online payment gateway or NEFT /
RTGS only. The online payment link and NEFT / RTGS account details given in
www.bfkct.in registration tag.
4.12 OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENTS
All the official announcements and the information regarding the BFKCT event will be
displayed in Bharath Formula Karting official website www.bfkct.in. On successful
registration of team, all the important information will be provided in the team account as
well as official websites. The team caption, members and faculty advisors are requested
to frequently visit the website for latest new updates. Further feel free to contact us

CHAPTER 5
DRIVER REQUIREMENTS
5.1 AGE: Team Kart driver must be 18 years or above on the date of event. Age should
be above 18 years and below 25 years on the date of the final event.
5.2 DRIVER’S LICENSE: Team Driver (s) must have a valid Driver’s License (Four
Wheeler) issued by the Government of India (Learner’s License not allowed). Driver(s)
must carry the original licence and the undertaking form signed by parents and faculty
advisor during the time of event and produce the self-attested xerox copy to the
registration desk. Kart driver must produce the original licence whenever organizer
asked. Before endurance test the kart driver must show or produce the original licence
to organizing authority or technical team.
5.3 MEDICAL INSURANCE WITH FULL ACCIDENTAL COVER: Student safety is top
priority to BFKCT and it’s non-negotiable. We strongly believe that, this Bharath Formula
Karting event grant success can only accomplished by the students devoted participation.
So, the Kart drivers must have a valid medical insurance with full accidental cover, which
must be uploaded on the team account or event site. The original copy of the insurance
must be submitted to BFKCT organizing committee or the management. Minimum INR
1,00,000 (one lakhs) coverage must be taken.
5.4 DRIVER’S SAFETY GEAR: The following are the minimum requirements and
restrictions that will be enforced through technical inspection, at any stage of competition.
All the parts of Driver’s Safety Gear must meet the required rating (specified). No driver
would be allowed to drive the kart without the complete driver’s safety gear in any of the
dynamic event. All the safety gears shall have manufacturers labelled with month & year
of manufacturing and expiry month, which is mandatory. Without label and invoice, teams
will not be allowed to participate. The complete driver’s gear of BFKCT will consist of the
following items:

DRIVER’S SUIT: A fire resistant driver suit, made from minimum of one layer
that covers the body from the neck down to the ankles and the wrists. The suit
must be certified to either one of the following standards and be labelled as such:
SFI 3-2A/1 (equivalent or higher) or FIA 8856-2000
UNDERCLOTHING: It is strongly recommended that all drivers wear fire resistant
underclothing (long pants and long sleeve t-shirt) inside their approved driving suit.
This fire resistant underclothing should be made from an acceptable fire resistant
material and should cover the driver’s body completely from neck down to ankles
and also the wrists.
NOTE: If you do not have fire resistant underclothing, it is strongly recommended
that driver must wear cotton underclothing (t-shirt and long underpants) inside the
approved driving suit.
HELMET: A well-fitting closed face helmet with ISI standard and above must be
used. Open-faced and motocross helmets are not allowed. All helmets to be used
in the competition must be presented during Technical Inspection where approved
helmets will be stickered. The organizer reserves the right to impound all non-
approved helmets until the end of the competition.
NECK SUPPORT: The neck support must be a full circle (360°) and SFI rated.
Horseshoe collars are not allowed.
BALACLAVA: A balaclava which covers the driver’s head, hair and neck, made
from an acceptable fire resistant material as or a full helmet skirt of acceptable fire
resistant material. The balaclava requirement applies to drivers of either gender,
with any hair length.
GLOVES: The gloves must be multilayered with extra foam sandwiched between
them.

SHOES: Fire resistant shoes made from acceptable fire resistant material, shoes
must be certified to the standard and labelled as such.
SFI 3.3 or higher FIA 8856-2000
NOTE: Sport shoes / Canvas shoes / Leather shoes / Industrial safety shoes are
not allowed at any point of the event.
SOCKS: Fire resistant socks made from acceptable fire resistant material or cotton
socks that cover the exposed skin between the driver’s suit and the boots/shoes.

KART TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS
6.1 ENGINE REGISTRATION (FREE)
After the Design Validation Round (Virtual), all the teams should register their engine
details with BFKCT and the registration will be done at free of cost. During the call of
engine registration separate link will enabled in the BFKCT official website and same to
be send to team official email id. After engine registration process carried out, the team
must send the scanned copy of the supporting documents (RC Book) to the BFKCT
official email id. As you all belongs to student community, so before purchase the vehicle
or engine, teams are advised to purchase from a trusted dealer only. Without engine
number or re - structured engine number will be associated in illegal issues, so, it may
directly result into disqualification of team from the event.
6.2 VEHICLE POWER TRAIN
Teams can select any Engine Meeting the Following Requirements
Engine Type - Single Cylinder, Four Stroke Gasoline Engine
Cooling System - Air
Maximum Capacity - 130cc
Type of Transmission - Manual gearbox / CVT / Centrifugal Clutch type
6.3 ENGINE TUNING
Teams are free to modify/tune the engine but it does not affect the engine actual cubic
capacity CC. The CC of the engine will be also checked before the dynamic round using
sophisticated equipment. BFKCT authorities trust the student community that, they are
not involved to increasing the cubic capacity while replacing the cylinder and piston etc.,

Further, that may notified by the BFKCT inspection or organization or other college team
members, it will lead to disqualifying the team from the event. Even at the end of race,
Engine of suspected karts may be inspected. However, any team involved to alter the
cubic capacity of cylinder, will be disqualified from the event.
6.4 VEHICLE REGISTRATION PAPERS
Original bills or the original vehicle registration papers (if vehicle belongs to a team
member) or an attested No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the owner with the original
Registration Papers is to be submitted during Technical Inspection. The team fail to bring
the document or fail to submit the same which leads to disqualifying the team from the
event.
6.5 CHASSIS MATERIAL
The tube/rectangular pipe used in the fabrication of the chassis or the other
frames/supports may be seamless. Minimum cross section must be 25.4 mm, for pipe it
will be OD and for rectangular section or square section, it will be its minimum height.
Chassis material must have minimum wall thickness of 1.5 mm. Material certification is
essentially required to be produced during the technical inspection. Material should be
certified from any of the material testing laboratories for its chemical and mechanical
properties, the same report should be presented at the time of inspection and throughout
the event.
6.6 KERB WEIGHT OF THE KART
Kerb Weight is the total weight of a vehicle with standard equipment, all necessary
operating consumables such as motor oil, transmission oil, coolant, and sometimes a full
tank of fuel. Kerb Weight of the vehicle should not exceed more than 140 Kg.

6.7 BUMPER (FRONT, REAR AND SIDE)
Bumpers must be installed in the front, rear and side of the vehicle such that it will cover
the tyres and protect the driver from any collision. Bumpers must be made of steel tubes
and chassis materials. Minimum dia of 25.4 mm and minimum wall thickness 1.5 mm.
Bumper can be covered by elastic materials in order to reduce the impact force. Bumpers
must have proper accessibility for use as towing provision or point or where temporary
toe rod can be pull the vehicle.
6.8 BRAKING SYSTEM
The braking system must be installed for capable of stopping the vehicle in a straight line
without losing control or skid during the brake test with the speed not less than 40 kmph
on a straight stretch length of 50 meters. The kart must have hydraulic braking system
and the pedal must directly actuate by the master cylinder through a rigid link (i.e.,
cables are not allowed). All brake lines must be well routed and securely mounted within
the vehicle. Electronic braking systems are not allowed. If any wheel having disc
brake system, bleeding ports for disc caliper should be upside of piston mechanism of
caliper. There should be no leakage from the tandem master cylinder (TMC) or reservoir
and throughout the brake linings. Proper linkage setup should be done to actuate the
tandem master cylinder from the brake pedal
6.9 BRAKE OVER TRAVEL SWITCH
All the Karts must have properly mounted brakes rigidly over travel
switch or kill switch. This switch should not be function in normal
braking conditions; it must act in case of brake failure or sudden loss
of hydraulic pressure or the over travel of the brake paddle in case of
brake failure. This switch must kill the engine (off the engine) and other
electrical equipment’s except brake light. push to off switch must be used. It should not
affect brake light. .Refer the image

6.10 KILL SWITCH
The Kart must be enabled with at least two kill switches. The kill switch
must kill engine ignition. First Kill switch must be rigidly placed on easily
accessible to the driver. The second kill switch must be mounted the
back side of the driver, which is easily accessible to the team mates or
other officials. Both the kill switch position must be clearly visible to inspection team and
others. Kill switches should be rigidly mounted .plastic tags or insulation are not allowed.

6.11 CHASSIS DESIGN
The vehicle must have four (4) wheels that cannot be in a straight line in longitudinal
direction. Holes in chassis are not permitted.
6.12 VEHICLE DIMENSIONS
The vehicle must have a wheelbase of at least 42 inch. The wheel base is measured from
centre of the front wheel axle to rear wheel axle. The overall length should be less
than or equal 76 Inch, width less than 60 inch including body works and bumpers
and height maximum of 38 inch from the ground.
6.13 GROUND CLEARANCE
The ground clearance must be sufficient to prevent any portion of the vehicle (other than
tires) from touching the ground during track events. Also, keeping the contemporary
designs of karts in mind, the ground clearance for the brake rotors and sprockets, if used,
is to be a minimum of 25.4 mm. With the driver , there must be a minimum 1 inches
and maximum 5 inches ground clearance measured at any of the lowest point,
under the complete vehicle at all times.

6.14 NERF BARS
The vehicle should be mounted to the NERF BAR on the both side of the kart. The nerf
bar should be of 22 inches in length, height must be minimum of 10 inches and maximum
of 15 inches and dia must be 1”inch steel tube and thickness must be 2 mm.
NERF bar must be mounted and 2 points. For clarification refer the image below.
6.15 WHEELBASE AND WHEEL TRACK
The wheelbase of the vehicle must be between 42 - 56 inches and the smaller track width
(front or rear) must be no less than 70% of the wheelbase of the vehicle and the
calculation sheet for wheel base and track width should be submitted during the technical
inspection authority.
6.16 MAXIMUM TURNING RADIUS
The maximum turning radius of the Kart must be less than or equal to 3.0 m. The Turning
radius test will be the part of technical inspection which does not carry any points or
Awards, but clearing the test is mandatory.

6.17 SUSPENSION
The suspension system may or may not be used in the vehicle, depending upon the
design feasibility and the choice of the team. In case any team wishes to use the
suspension system, it must have a total travel of at least 2 inches i.e. 1inch for jounce and
1inch for rebound. The suspension system should have proper geometric elements,
kinematic simulations and calculation details need to added in the virtual report if possible.
BFKCT do not recommend the suspension systems, but BFKCT provide liberty to the
students to produce high performance vehicle with their innovation.
6.18 STEERING SYSTEM
The steering system must be able to control (simultaneously) at least two (2) wheels. The
steering system must have positive steering stops that prevent the steering linkages
from locking up either in RH or LH turning (the inversion of a four-bar linkage at one
of the pivots). The stops may be placed on the uprights or on the rack and must prevent
the tires from contacting suspension, body, tie rod or frame members during the track
events. Allowable total steering system free play (inclusive of play in all the steering
linkages) is limited to a maximum of 7 degrees, measured at the steering wheel. Steer by
Wire is allowed, only if it completely electric, and should be manufactured by the team
members only, outsourced assemblies or pre-fabricated systems are not allowed.
6.19 VISIBILITY REQUIREMENT
The engine compartment must be completely visible to the examiners in case they wish
to see the assembly. Furthermore, from the driver seated position, the driver must be able
to see clearly 180 degrees on his either side without any obstructions to the field of view.

6.20 FUEL TANK AND ITS POSITION
The fuel tank must be rigidly mounted to the vehicle in at least two points. The capacity
of the fuel tank can be kept up to 5 liters. Every fuel tank must have proper ventilation
system and the spill out fuel should be stored in the catch can mounted on the vehicle
system and the spill out fuel should be stored in the catch can which is mounted on the
vehicle. The drain house should be properly routed and clamped in right manner to the
catch can. The fuel tank should be mounted in such a way that no heating parts or moving
parts are not engaged or be in contact with the tank. Team must use clamps at the joints
of fuel house pipe and rigidly mounted. Drain hose from spill can and breather valve
to be stored in catch can. Air filters must be useded.
6.21 DRIVER SEAT
Kart vehicle must have proper bucket Seats as shown in figure. The
seat mounting must be rigid enough to withstand the dynamic
conditions during the track events. The driver seat must maintain
at least 2 inch clearance from the firewall. Alignment of the Karting
driver seat must be parallel to Kart’s longitudinal axis.
6.22 SEATING ERGONOMICS
While designing the kart, ergonomics design must be consider for comfort of the driver.
The knee angle should be maintaining not less than 135°. Back angle not less than 30°
and elbow angle not less than 110° during static conditions. The driver should able to
see around 180° form his / her seating position.

6.24 BRAKE LIGHT
The vehicle must be installed with a brake light red in colour, which is clearly
visible from the rear. BFKCT recommend to using LED brake light because
it is high visibility in sunlight. The light fittings must be mounted on
adequate location between the wheel axis lines. All electrical wiring and connection with
good engineering practice are highly appreciable. Refer the image
6.25 EXHAUST SYSTEM
The exhaust system should be so chosen such that it can reduce the emission of harmful
gases from the exhaust as per the government norms. Use of suitable catalytic converter
and the mufflers is recommended. The exhaust system must properly shield to preventing
the delicate parts which may get affected from exposed engine heat. The exhaust must
be mounted properly to avoid the physical contacts of the viewers or the technical
inspectors. Shielding to exhaust pipe with cotton rope, jute rope is strictly
prohibited. Team can use metallic porous sheet or relevant equal material to cover the
entire exhaust systems. Exhaust sound should not exceed 100 decibels. Exhaust should
be inside karts periphery. Exhaust fumes must be discharged towards the rear in
downward flow of exhaust fumes.
6.26 WHEELS AND TYRES
Teams must use standard Go-Karting tyres that is threaded or non threaded.
6.27 LOCK NUTS
Locking nuts are mandatory to be used everywhere in the vehicle. Failure to fulfil these
requirements, the team will reject in Technical Inspection. Usage of normal nuts in
moving parts are strictly prohibited

6.28 BOLTS
All bolts used in the system must meet metric grade M 8.8. No fasteners used
should be less than 8.8 hardness. Thread lockers spring washers are prohibited. All
fasteners used should have minimum three (3) threads showing past the nut.
6.29 FIRE EXTINGUISHER
Each team must have at least two (2) nos. of 1 kg ABC type fire extinguishers. One rigidly
mounted with vehicle and should be easily accessible to the driver in case of emergency
and another with crew member at all dynamic events. Fire extinguisher should be working
in condition. It should bear a sticker or a bill clearly mentioning its date of manufacturing
and month of expiry.
6.30 PATH FOR WIRES AND PIPES
No pipelines / wire connections must go under the chassis. It is strictly prohibited. Doing
it may lead to disqualification of the team. It should be properly routed, should not
make any contact with driver and with rotating or moving parts. Should not be kept
loose & make contact with engine or exhaust system.
6.31 FIREWALL
Firewall is a shield which protects the driver from the heat produced by the engine. It
should be made in such a manner that driver’s body parts are not affected by the engine
heat at any time during the dynamic/static condition. There should be minimum 3
inches clearance between the firewall and the engine cylinder block and minimum
1 inches clearance between the firewall and other parts of engine.
6.32 UNSTABLE VEHICLE
Any vehicle exhibiting handling issues or vehicle dynamics such as wobbling that are
deemed the kart as unstable the BFKCT technical committee will not permitted to
participate in dynamic events. The decision of the Head of the Technical Committee of

BFKCT in this regard will be final and binding to all. This is in the interest of safety of all
teams members and drivers.
6.33 FLOOR PLAN
Every vehicle should be having a proper and sufficient floor protecting driver from any
foreign particle accidentally entering from the base of the vehicle. It should cover from
the front end of the kart to rear part of driver seat.
6.34 KART STAND
Kart Stand is essentially required for every team during technical inspection. The design
of the stand can be anything but it must be able to move when pushed or pulled. The
stand must be ergonomically suitable to work on. The stand must be at least 30 inches
from the ground. The stand must be equipped with small tires so that it can be easily
moved. Team can use pre-fabricated stand also.
6.35 FINAL VEHICLE DESIGN
The design report must contain a valid and complete design of the vehicle including all
subsystems with enumerated calculations report.
6.36 KART STARTING SYSTEM
Kart must enabled self-stating arrangement and kick start method is strictly prohibited.

6.37 POWER TRAIN GUARDS
There must be protection of chain and sprocket by using metal sheet of minimum
2mm thickness to ensure safety of power train.A complete cover around the engine
and drive-train is an acceptable shield. There must not be any sharp edges on the
complete vehicle. There should be at least 20mm gap between the power train and chain
gurard. It should be mounted ridigly.
6.38 IDENTIFICATION OF VEHICLE
Each team will be given a vehicle number or a code, and the vehicle will be called by this
number/ Code in the whole event. Teams are advised not to place any logos on the front
part of the vehicle because the vehicle number will be placed on the front of the vehicle.
The kart number must be clearly visible from all sides, front and rear of the vehicle. The
size of the letter approximately 152 X 76 mm and the letter width 15mm.The
identification of vehicle number or code should be black colour number with yellow
background.
6.39 TOE POINT
There must be two toe points; one must be in front and the other must be at the rear. Toe
points must be painted with red colour for easy identification. Toe point must be rotate
with 90°. During the operation at any angle between 0-90° it should not losing the
strength. During the process toeing suitable rod must be used and ropes are not allowed.

6.40 BODY WORK
The bodywork as shown below of the front panel must be designed and fabricated such
that the vehicle number, team number, team name, team logo and the BFKCT logo to be
displayed clearly. There must be bodywork over rear bumpers, side bumpers and front
bumpers and nose. Teams have freedom to use any type of bodywork for aesthetic look
of their kart. As in general driver egress should be less than 5 seconds.
GENERAL NOTE:
Please note that only self-fabricated body works are consider for the evaluation of the
winner for aesthetics. The team are free to design any type of body works. But the
minimum requirement must be full filled.

CHAPTER 7
DESIGN VALIDATION ROUND (VIRTUAL)
NO ELIMINATION IN THE VIRTUAL ROUND
7.1 DESIGN VALIDATION ROUND (VIRTUAL) (DVR)
DVR consists of 250 points in which presentation of all the research and development
over the vehicle is to be given in front of the judges in 20 minutes (including questionnaire
round). DVR details should be uploaded at the team portal on the BFKCT website. The
prime objective is to design, analysis and documentation of the Go-kart vehicle. The
design should be complete in all aspects to the extent of being considered ready to
Manufacturing. The teams will be evaluated based on their knowledge of the basic
automotive design, analysis and documentation about the Go-Kart design and
manufacturing requirements. NO ELIMINATION IN THE VIRTUAL ROUND. Further
details/guidelines for the virtual round will be released on team login page.

The vehicle design report should contain a complete design of the vehicle including the
necessary simulations with justifying the design and performance of the vehicle.

2. DESIGN REPORT
The design report should contain design and details of all the components used in the
kart and the reason for selection of that particular component/system. Design report will
be verified with the vehicle at the time of static and dynamic event, so the design must be
done carefully. Document must be submitted in pdf format. All the teams should provide
design drafts of their vehicle upon entering the design tent. These drafts should show the
basic design views of the major components.
3. INNOVATION REPORT
The innovation will be evaluated during the Final Round. The evaluation will be done on
the basis of team interview, proper working of innovation throughout the event (in all the
dynamic tests) and the concept of the innovation. Innovations which have been already
done successfully in the field of Go Karting; will not be considered as the innovations,
teams need to come up with entirely new and unique idea of innovation with working and
not only an idea.
4. COST REPORT
The vehicle must be manufactured in the budget INR 1,00,000. Market survey of all the
components/systems used in the manufacturing of the vehicle in the form of cost report
must be submitted with the design report. The cost report should elaborate. Every
component / assembly of the vehicle must be covered in the cost report. No need of
accounting GST in the cost report. Cost excluding GST is expected in the report.

5. DESIGN VALIDATION PLAN
The design validation plan is the assurance that a product, service, or system meets the
needs of the customer and other identified stakeholders. It often involves acceptance and
suitability with external customers. All the virtual and real time tests and analysis are to
be included in the design validation plan.
6. DESIGN FAILURE MODE EFFECT AND ANALYSIS (DFMEA)
A DFMEA is often the first step of a system reliability study. It involves reviewing as many
components, assemblies, and subsystems as possible to identify failure modes, and their
causes and effects. For each component, the failure modes and their resulting effects on
the rest of the system are recorded in a specific FMEA worksheet. There are three
different types of DFMEA exists such as Functional, Design and Process. It is widely used
in development and manufacturing kart in various phases of the product life cycle
analysis.
7. GANTT CHARTS
Gantt charts illustrate the start and finish dates of Art to Part elements of the go-kart
fabrication project. This chart is basically the management of the project and distribution
of different tasks of the team members completed with stipulated time. The Gantt chart
must be attached along with the design report.

CHAPTER 8
CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND
8.1 STATIC TESTS
DESIGN REPORT VS VEHICLE ANALYSIS (Best Engineering Design and Best CAE)
The vehicle will be verified with the design report and deviations from the design report
should not be allowed until and unless completely justify with documented reasons. Same
way, BFKCT understands the student’s difficulties during the manufacturing process of
the kart. For the benefit of the students deviation up to 10% from the design report is
acceptable. Further it will lead to penalized accordingly.
MANUFACTURING LEVEL (Build Quality and Aesthetics)
Good engineering practice will lead to good manufacturing skill. The vehicle will be
examined and evaluated by the judges at the time of static and dynamic test, so the
participating teams are advised to manufacture the vehicle with pre-planned strategies so
that the vehicle would be able to compete in several tasks and tests.
DISCUSSION (QUESTIONNAIRE)
In the static test event, during evaluation and examine the vehicle, technical team may
interact with team members as individual or whole. So, the BFKCT advised the team
members to prepare kart related technical details for exhibits their talent to impress the
technical team members.
INNOVATION
The innovation planned in the vehicle to be presented in Design Validation Round
(Virtual). The presented concepts will be discussed with the team and its working will be
examined by the technical team in the respective pit of the teams. Team needs to present
innovation report at the time of explaining the innovation. The innovation should be
working and not just for the concept.

TECHNICAL INSPECTION
Before the dynamic event there will be Technical Inspection (TI) which does not carry any
points but is mandatory for participating in dynamic event. TI will be very strict based on
rulebook parameter and safety checks of the vehicle (No Deviation from rule book). The
team will be given only 2 chances for the TI test failing which the team will be considered
disqualified for the dynamic events.
BRAKE TEST VIDEO SUBMISSION
Team are required to have properly working brake system before coming to event
in such manner that all wheels should be locked after applying brake and kart must
stop in straight line.
SAFETY EQUIPMENT’S
Every team is advised to use proper safety equipment’s during manufacturing or during
any repair work carried out on site. Technical team will inspect the safety equipment’s
during Technical Inspection.
SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
➢ Vehicle lifting by hand is not allowed, every team must use jack to lift the vehicle
during repair work.
➢ Every member should wear proper shoes, workshop gloves and full sleeves cloths.
DRIVER EXIT TIME
Maximum driver out time is 5sec, within this interval of time driver has to come out from
the cockpit.

BUSINESS PLAN
Teams are expected to prepare a complete business plan by understanding the sector
and industry. Every team has to do the complete market survey of the same segment and
prepare the strategies to target the customers. Team has to prepare a presentation, which
has to be presented during the final round. Team has to convince the judges with their
business plan presentation. Every team has to submit the complete business plan report
in two phases. Teams are advised not to include any confidentiality agreement in the
business plan; our aim is to evaluate the concept of your business idea not to sell out your
idea in market. Preliminary report has to be submitted before the final round (Refer
chapter 1 for the submission schedule) and the final report has to be submitted on the
final round. Teams are expected to work upon the following points and prepare both the
report and the presentation accordingly;
Executive Summary: This includes the organizational structure of your
company. You need clearly define the roles for each member of the executive
board. This member will then be responsible for the same in the report to follow.
Introduction to the Company: Introduce your company and its vision and
mission statement.
Business/Company Profile: Explain your company profile in brief. Team are
encouraged to prepare the brochure of the company, which will cover the entire
details of the product.
Industry and Market Analysis: Thorough and complete survey of industry
performance of last 2 years. Market analysis for the demand of the product in
the competition. Competitor analysis should be included with the detailed
report on the same.
Marketing Strategies: The basic plan of the company to tap the available
market. Types of strategies the company proposes for marketing.

Operation Plan: The whole operation plan and the basic layout men and machine used
for the processes. Basic machining processes available in-house and the out sourced
processes. The logistics and warehousing methods used in the company. The after sales
and support proposed method also added.
Sales forecast and Strategies: The teams are required to forecast their sales
for the next five years and their strategies to achieve these sales target. If
necessary the teams can also include the spare parts sales too.
Environmental Impact: The teams are required to give a report on the
environmental impact caused due to their manufacturing activities and their
measures to reduce the impact caused. Also, the teams are required to include
an innovation to reduce the pollution caused by their vehicles.
Cost Plans: Teams are required to give a detailed cost report of their activities
for the next 5 years. The exact calculation of the breakeven period as well as
break-even quantity is a must. The capital structure of the company should be
well explained. Cost plans must include the consideration of warranty costs as
well. The costs of depreciation should also be considered.
Note: Roles and responsibilities of the company have to be distributed between minimum
of 5 members. This means, the executive board must consist of minimum 5 members.
8.2 DYNAMIC TESTS
Scoring formulas and other guidelines for the dynamic tests will be uploaded in the team
accounts.
8.3 BRAKE TEST (3 Attempts)
It’s mandatory for a vehicle to pass the brake test to participate in any of the
dynamic events. The vehicle must stop in a straight line after the brake is applied on the
vehicle and the wheels on which the brake mechanism is acting must get locked

immediately after pedal is pressed. Each vehicle will be given only 3 attempts to pass the
brake test. If any kart not clear the brake test, further the kart will be disqualified
from the event.
Vehicle dynamic stability will also be checked during this test, vehicle possessing
abnormal behavior will be checked again. The TI can be cancelled if the vehicle is found
dynamically unstable or unsafe in the Brake Test. Few frequently occurred problems are
listed below
➢ Abnormal noise from the transmission
➢ Brake squeal noise
➢ Unbalanced frame or frame twisting or frame vibration
➢ Improper wheel alignment etc.
If these issues found in the kart during the inspection, Technical Inspection will be
cancelled and chance will be provide to team to rectify it.
8.4 ACCELERATION TEST
The objective of the acceleration determines the time it takes the vehicle to accelerate
along 100 ft long on flat surface or road. Each team may make two (2) attempts same or
different drivers. Scoring will be based on the better of the two attempts. Timing may be
done using either electronic systems or stop watches.
DNF- Vehicles that have not run by the end of the event (determined by the
organizer) will receive a Did Not Finish (DNF).

8.5 SKID PAD TEST
The objective of the skid-pad event is to measure the Kart cornering ability on a flat
surface while making a constant-radius turn.
SKID PAD LAYOUT
There will be two (2) pairs of concentric circles in a figure as shown in figure (images and
dimensions sourced from SAE formula 2012) of eight pattern. The centers of these circles
will be 18.25 m apart. The inner circles will be 15.25 m in diameter, and the outer circles
will be 18.25 m in diameter. The driving path will be the 3 m path between the inner and
outer circles. The vehicles will enter and exit through gates on a 3 m wide path that is
tangential to the circles where they meet. The line between the centers of the circles
defines the start/stop line. A lap is defined as travelling around one (1) of the circles from
the start/stop line and returning to the start/stop line. According to the event venue the
skid pad layout may change as “S” and the dimensions may vary.

PROCEDURE: The vehicles will enter perpendicular to the figure eight and will take one
full lap on the right circle to establish the turn. The next lap will be on the right circle and
will be timed. Immediately following the second lap, the vehicle will enter the left circle for
the third lap. The fourth lap will be on the left circle and will be timed. Immediately upon
finishing the fourth lap, the vehicle will exit the track. The vehicle will exit at the intersection
moving in the same direction as entered. A driver has the option to take a second run
immediately after the first.
PENALTIES
CONES DOWN OR OUT: A penalty of 0.50 seconds will be added to the time for
every cone that is knocked ―down or out (including gate cones).
DNF: Vehicles that spin-out can continue as long as they have not gone off course
will be classified as DNF.
Incorrect Laps- Vehicles that do not follow procedure i.e. run an incorrect number
of laps or run the Laps in the wrong sequence will be classified as DNF.
8.6 AUTOCROSS
The objective of the autocross event is to evaluate the vehicle's manoeuvrability and
handling qualities on a tight course without the hindrance of competing vehicles. The
autocross course will combine the performance features of acceleration, braking, and
cornering into one event.
PROCEDURE: The vehicle will be staged such that the front wheels are 6 m behind the
starting line. The timer starts only after the vehicle crosses the start line. There will be no
particular order of the vehicles to run each heat. The organizer will determine the
allowable windows for each heat and retains the right to adjust for weather or technical
delays.
NOTE: Each team will get one (1) attempt only. Distance between each cone =3.5M

It will include 5 laps heat in which karts will starts laps individually by 5 seconds lag
between each kart. Teams are not allowed to work on the kart during the heat. Driver
change is not allowed during the heat. Passing another vehicle may only be done in an
established passing zone. The BFKCT have full rights to increase (or) decrease the
no of laps
8.7 ENDURANCE TEST
RIGHT TO CHANGE PROCEDURE
The following are general guidelines for conducting the endurance event. The organizers
reserve the right to establish procedures specific to the conduct of the event at the racing
circuit.
Endurance Objective: The Endurance Event is designed to evaluate the overall
performance of the vehicle and to test the vehicle’s reliability.

The BFKCT have full rights to increase (or) decrease the no of laps
Refuelling will not be allowed during an endurance heat
PROCEDURE: All the karts eligible for the endurance test will be divided into batches
(number of karts per batch will be decided on the endurance day only).. The event will be
run as a single heat approximately 21 km (10 Laps) long. Teams are not allowed to work
on their vehicles during the heat.. Wheel-to-wheel racing is prohibited. Passing another
vehicle may only be done in an established passing zone.
VEHICLE BREAKDOWN AND STALLS: If a vehicle breaks down it will be removed from
the course and will not be allowed to re-enter the course. If a vehicle stalls, or ingests a
cone, etc., it will be allowed to restart and re-enter the course where it went off, but no
work may be performed on the vehicle. If a Kart stop and cannot be restarted without
external assistance, the track workers will push the kart clear of the track. At the discretion
of event officials, two (2) team members may retrieve the kart under direction of the track
workers.
ENDURANCE MINIMUM SPEED REQUIREMENT: If a kart is unable to maintain lap
times within 135% of the fastest lap time for the course, and then it must exit immediately.
Disqualification for failure to maintain the minimum speed will be made at the discretion
of the Director of Operations.
ENDURANCE LAP TIMING: Each lap of the endurance event will be individually timed
by electronic or by stop watch. The time for an individual heat will be determined by
subtracting the extra-long lap for the driver change from the total time and adding any
penalty points.

8.5 PENALTIES
Failure to obey a flag: 1 minute
Over Driving (After a closed black flag):1 Minute
Vehicle to Vehicle contact: DISQUALIFIED
Out of Order: Running out of order – two (2) minute penalty
Mechanical Problem: No additional penalty other than the time lost to ensure that the
car is safe to continue.
Rash or Aggressive Driving: Any rash or aggressive driving behaviour (such as forcing
another car off the track, refusal to allow passing, or close driving that would cause the
likelihood of car contact) will result in a black flag for that driver. When a driver receives
a black flag signal, he must proceed to the penalty box to listen to a reprimand for his
driving behaviour. The amount of time spent in the penalty box will vary from one (1) to
four (4) minutes depending upon the severity of the offense.
Inexperienced Driver: The BFKCT organizing team may disqualify a driver if the driver
is too slow, too aggressive, or driving in a manner that, in the sole opinion of the event,
officials, demonstrates an inability to properly control their car resulting in a DNF.

CHAPTER 9
JUDGEMENT CATEGORIES
9.0 JUDGING CRITERION
The participating teams are judged in two rounds i.e. Design Validation Round (Virtual),
Static Test, Dynamic Test and Endurance Test.
Design Validation Round (Virtual) shortlists and awarded will be based on the
presentation of the design report and various other parameters within the presentation.
Virtual is the stage in which the documents like Vehicle Design, Design Report,
Innovation, Cost Analysis, Design Validation and Gantt chart. Reports to be evaluated
by the judges followed bya presentation and discussion with the team representatives the
team may be awarded in three categories. As Design Presentation First, Second and
Third. The decision of the judges will be final and binding.
The teams, and their fabricated Go-Kart Vehicles will be judged in a series of static and
dynamic event including Technical Inspection, Cost, Marketing presentation, Engineering
Design, performance and Endurance test on the track. The judges will be observing all
the team members and may ask questions randomly to any team members for evaluating
various parameters these events are scored to determine how well the vehicle performs.

Ltd., CHAPTER 2 ORGANIZATION AND GOVERNANCE 2.1 ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION With the aim and commitment of providing quality training M/s. CADD Technologies School of Design came in to inception in the year of 2000. This is our 18th year in the CAD/CAM Training Industry and having a strong planning in expanding our legs across globe in near future. The company is established by the dynamic group of directors who are in to Academic and Research field for more than a decade with a vision of providing Industrial requirement based engineering solutions by which it will have their own presence in overall growth of the Manufacturing and Civil Industry to whom the company got tie-up. We, M/s .CADD Technologies School of Design Private Limited, is an Authorized Training cum Certification centre of Autodesk, PTC University, Bentley, TATA Technologies and Innovent Technologies (ANSYS). We are providing Training cum engineering solutions to the students as well as companies in the key areas like Design Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Digital Prototyping and Building Information Modelling. We have trained more than 20,000 students so far (Both In-house as well as On-site) and have successfully placed sizable number of candidates in various domestic and MNCs to whom we got tie-up. We also set up a Technical Advisory committee, which consists of eminent personalities from the leading industries of Coimbatore as well as professors and lecturers of various colleges who are guiding us to serve the student community in a better way. Ltd., TECHNOLOGY PARTNERS 2.2 ABOUT “BHARATH FORMULA KARTING SEASON-2” Bharath Formula Karting is a competition powered by CADD Technologies School of Design Private Limited (BFKCT) to explore the theoretical and technical skill of engineering and diploma students. The main motto of this competition is to design, analysis, documentation and manufacturing of kart (Art to Product). The competition takes place in two stages; Firstly, design validation stage is known as Virtual Round. Secondly, Champion Round which consists of Static, Dynamic and Endurance Test. The participating teams have liberty to exhibits their Innovation and New Finding allied with rule book. BFKCT provides a platform to budding young engineers to exhibits their innovative ideas into reality. BFKCT forum encouraged the team members to undergo the literature survey before design and manufacture of kart vehicle. Furthermore, it is advised to the team members to fabricate the kart with experts and faculty advisor suggestion but not involved them physically to fabricate the kart. BFKCT recognize the team building activity and individual talent by providing various awards in different categories. Similarly, BFKCT offers Internships, Implant and Project in reputed industry for the selected team members to shape their carrier. According to the various literature and knowledge gaining, further students has to do the design calculation of chassis, brake, transmission and steering geometry and carryout the various analysis for validation.

Ltd., CHAPTER 3 BFKCT RULES AND REGULATIONS 3.1 RULES AUTHORITY The team must mandatory to follow each and every rules, regulation and restriction given in the rule book. Bharath Formula Karting reserves right to modify each and every rules, regulation and restriction associated with the Karting event. Breach of rules by any individual or as a team or representative member may be liable to be penalized severely and eliminate or withdrawing or debarring of the team from the competition. Furthermore, a withdrawal of award / awards as well. 3.2 VALIDITY OF THE RULES The rules, regulation and restriction will be same throughout the event and any amendments will immediately be made known to all the participating teams through emails and the same will be uploaded on the website www.bfkct.in. 3.3 RULES COMPLIANCE By registering Bharath Formula Karting (BFKCT) event, the team caption, members of the team as individuals, faculty advisors and other authority of the College/University agree to comply with and will be bounded by the rules, regulation, restriction, interpretations or procedures issued or announced by BFKCT. All team members, faculty advisors and university/college authorities are required to cooperate with, and follow all instructions, penalties and results from competition organizers, officials and judges. Disputes if any are subject to Coimbatore jurisdiction only. 3.4 LOOPHOLES BFKCT strongly besides with student safety is prime and most import factor, so, BFKCT reserve the rights to resolve the superficial loopholes to improve the safety of the students to successful completion of the competition. Ltd., frame the rules to covers all the possible questions and incidents to design the vehicle’s parameters or conduct of the event. So, BFKCT always enforce the student safety. 3.5 PARTICIPATING IN THE EVENT The registered team, team caption, members, participant individuals, faculty advisor and college representatives of colleges and universities who are all present on competition venue are considered as Participant in the Event. If earlier departure from the event venue due to problem in kart, medical reason, not cleared in any technical inspection or any other personal and official or non-personal and official reason considering as earlier withdrawing the team from the competition. At any circumstances, the registration fee is not adjustable or refundable. Teams are advised to submit the Technical document on time: The team members are advised to submit the document in given schedule time to avoid the delay of publishing the points and notifications. If any team wants to extend the time due to their university examination and other academic activity, please send a mail (or) request letter through team advisor and forwarded by the head of the department / head of the institution / registrar stating the actual reason for requesting time extension and so on. 3.6 RIGHT TO IMPOUND Bharath Formula Karting (BFKCT) reserves the right to impound to any registered vehicle in onsite or during the event or at any time or at the various stage during the competition for inspect and examine by organizers, officials and technical inspectors. 3.7 VIOLATIONS OF INTENT Any team and team members who does not comply with the applicable rules, regulation and restriction requirements of this event are subject to penalties / disqualifying. Questions about the intent or meaning of a rule may be addressed to the organizers.

Ltd., 3.8 BEHAVIORAL ATTITUDE MISBEHAVIOR Misbehaviour activity in any form of the registered team, individual or representative of the college / university will receive a penalty of 100 points or disqualifying or eliminated from the event depending on the attitude of team members. ARGUMENTS WITH OFFICIALS Argument with or disobedience to any official may result in the elimination of team from the competition. All members of the team may be immediately escorted from the competition venue. SMOKING AND ILLEGAL MATERIAL Alcohol, illegal drugs, weapons or other illegal material are prohibited on the event site during the competition. This rule will be in effect during the entire competition. Any violation of this rule by a team member will cause the expulsion of the entire team. This applies to both team members and faculty advisors. Any use of drugs or the use of alcohol by an underage individual, will be reported to the local authorities for prosecution. 3.9 VEHICLE RELATED KART MOVEMENT Kart vehicles must be pushed or pulled by use bar move the vehicle from the pit to racing circuit. The vehicle are not allowed to driving in normal working or walking or pedestrian approachable places. The kart vehicle allows to drive only on places prescribed by the BFKCT or Race Circuit authorities for various rounds. Violating the rules and regulations in any form lead to penalty of 100 points.

Ltd., LIST OF PREFABRICATED PARTS All the teams have liberty to buy the readymade / fabricated parts to use for their kart as listed below. If we found that the entire vehicle is fabricated by the professional and brought from them for participating the event, the team will be disqualify from the event without any notification. Furthermore, any superfluous parts fitted in the vehicle must be removed from the kart to proceed further. Springs, Brake drum, disc, calliper and brake holding assembly, master cylinder, Steering gear box, Steering column, Steering wheel, Wheel rims &Tyres, tie rod ends, Engine, Knuckle, Air Filters, Chain Guard, Break Lights, Batteries, Toggle Switches Fuel tank & exhaust system. 3.10 PENALTIES Violation of Rules: Penalty of 100 points imposed / disqualifies the team from the event. Misbehaviour/Arguments with officials or volunteers: Penalty of 100 points / disqualification. Tampering with TI sticker or making restricted changes in vehicle after TI: Direct Disqualifying ENTRY WITHOUT PERMISSION ON TRACKS: 100 points/ disqualification. DAMAGES: Intentional damage to track/tent/other resources will result to the penalty of INR 1,00,000/- or cost of actual damage whichever is high. Furthermore, prize and certificates will not be awarded or issued to the particular team and team member unless or until the damaged or penalty amounts are completely settled to the administrator. OTHERS: BFKCT organizers have full rights to modify the penalties or penalties points listed in the various events.

Ltd., 3.11 REMONSTRATION BFKCT will recognize the student’s involvement and efforts in manufacturing the kart by spending hard work and valuable hours and days. The Bharath Formula Karting organizer will make nevertheless effort to review all questions and disputes to resolve problems quickly and efficiently. PRELIMINARY REVIEW – REQUIRED If a team has a question about scoring, judging, policies or any official action it must be brought to the BFKCT organizers notice for an informal preliminary review before a objection can be filed. CAUSE FOR REMONSTRATION A team may object any rule interpretation, score or official action (unless specifically excluded from remonstration) which they feel has caused some actual, non-trivial harm to their team, or has had a substantive effect on their score. Teams may not object rule interpretations or actions that have not caused them any substantive damage. WHO CAN FILE THE REMONSTRATION Only team captain or Faculty Advisor on behalf of whole team can file the remonstration. Other team members should not accompany or interfere filing of such remonstration stand cancelled. REMONSTRATION FORMAT AND FORFEIT All remonstration must be filed in writing and presented to the organizer of BFKCT by the team captain or Faculty Advisor. If remonstration with notification is not done with organizer, the team will not be considered and penalty of 100 points imposed to the team and remonstrations is rejected or stand cancelled. The team violating the above rules and regulation, BFKCT reserved the rights to disqualify the team at any point of time.
  • 14. Bharath Formula Karting (BFKCT) www.bfkct.in Rule Book 9 | P a g e Powered by CADD Technologies School of Design Pvt. Ltd., REMONSTRATION PERIOD Remonstration concerning any aspect of the event must be filed within 30 minutes from end of the event shall be considered.

Ltd., CHAPTER 4 TEAM REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS 4.1 Team Requirement The team registering in Bharath Formula Karting must have a Team Name, Logo, Captain and the Faculty Advisor (Not below Assistant Professor Cadre). There is no limitation on the number of registrations from same college / university. Team size should not exceed 35 members per team (For additional member / student refer 4.10). 4.2 Eligibility Criteria Undergraduate and Technical students from engineering degree/diploma streams are eligible to registering and participating in the event. Bharath Formula Karting is an engineering event rather than a race, our aim and motto is to bring up their innovative idea from young engineering minds to nurture and motive them to fabricating the vehicle using engineering knowledge and practices. Every individual team members aligned their good self on their expertise in the field of interest to participate the event in successful manner. The team members who have registering the event must be currently studying undergoing UG or PG or Diploma course in order to participate in the competition. 4.3 TEAM NAME Each team must have unique team name. However, the teams are free to choose any team name as per their choice. The BFKCT organizer found that any team name repeated, the second registering team are asked to select alternate name for their team.

Ltd., 4.4 KART NUMBER Kart Number will be provided by the BFKCT organizer. Teams will be informed about their kart number, once registration is closed. 4.5 INTEGRATED TEAMS As this is an engineering event. So, integrated teams are highly appreciable. 4.6 DEFINITION OF INTEGRATED TEAMS Integrated team refers that, if any team captain or faculty advisor wants to form a team with various engineering discipline (Mech, Auto, EEE, ECE etc.,) students from their institution or other institution. The idea of forming the integrated team is to share the knowledge and utilizing the resources. Furthermore, it will help the students for team building nature. 4.7 FACULTY ADVISOR Each team must have one Faculty Advisor appointed by the Department / College / University. The faculty advisors are strictly not allowed to involve in static and dynamic events. Similarly, the faculty advisor(s) should not involve directly or indirectly in design, analysis, and documentation, fabricate and repair of any part of the Kart and ensure that the kart is manufactured by participating team members only. 4.8 TEAM REGISTRATION Online registration will be available 24x7 on our website (www.bfkct.in) from 25st March 2019. During the registration, students must pay the registration fee (NO ELIMINATION IN VIRTUAL ROUND).BFKCT will provide accounts to all the teams on BFKCT web portal and all the relevant information/announcements will be published in the respective accounts and also BFKCT official website. Ltd., payment proof, reports etc., or send to official email with mentioning their team name, kart number in subject. 4.9 REGISTRATION AGREEMENT By registering in BFKCT event, the Team Captain / Team Member / Faculty Advisor / College Management agree with the rules and regulations of BFKCT. They understand that all the information provided in the registration documents and online registration forms are correct to the best of their knowledge and also they accept that the team would undertake all the activities without help of any professionals directly or indirectly. In case of any violation of the rules and regulations specified in the Rule Book, the teams are liable for disciplinary actions as per the decision of the BFKCT organizing Management. The teams are also liable for any loss of documentation / communication on part of discrepancy in the information as provided in registration. 4.10 REGISTRATION FEE Registration fee for the event is INR 25,000 + 18 % (GST) per team (30 Members). Total Registration Fee INR 25,000 + INR 4,500 (GST) = INR 29,500.00 (INR 983 / Student - Team of 30). The registration amount is non-refundable or adjustable at any circumstances. For Extra member (on special request): INR 1000 + 18 % (GST) / Member (Maximum 5 Members only allowed and also the total team size should not exceed more than 35 Members) Payment Flexibility: BFKCT always support to student community. So, the payment flexibility provided in two instalments. First instalment student can pay INR 10,000/- during the registration. Second instalment of INR 19,500/- can be made on or before 20th June 2019. If any special request from students it may extend up to 30th june 2019. There is NO ELIMINATION IN VIRTUAL ROUND.

Ltd., CHAPTER 5 DRIVER REQUIREMENTS 5.1 AGE: Team Kart driver must be 18 years or above on the date of event. Age should be above 18 years and below 25 years on the date of the final event. 5.2 DRIVER’S LICENSE: Team Driver (s) must have a valid Driver’s License (Four Wheeler) issued by the Government of India (Learner’s License not allowed). Driver(s) must carry the original licence and the undertaking form signed by parents and faculty advisor during the time of event and produce the self-attested xerox copy to the registration desk. Kart driver must produce the original licence whenever organizer asked. Before endurance test the kart driver must show or produce the original licence to organizing authority or technical team. 5.3 MEDICAL INSURANCE WITH FULL ACCIDENTAL COVER: Student safety is top priority to BFKCT and it’s non-negotiable. We strongly believe that, this Bharath Formula Karting event grant success can only accomplished by the students devoted participation. So, the Kart drivers must have a valid medical insurance with full accidental cover, which must be uploaded on the team account or event site. The original copy of the insurance must be submitted to BFKCT organizing committee or the management. Minimum INR 1,00,000 (one lakhs) coverage must be taken. 5.4 DRIVER’S SAFETY GEAR: The following are the minimum requirements and restrictions that will be enforced through technical inspection, at any stage of competition. All the parts of Driver’s Safety Gear must meet the required rating (specified). No driver would be allowed to drive the kart without the complete driver’s safety gear in any of the dynamic event. All the safety gears shall have manufacturers labelled with month & year of manufacturing and expiry month, which is mandatory. Without label and invoice, teams will not be allowed to participate. Ltd., DRIVER’S SUIT: A fire resistant driver suit, made from minimum of one layer that covers the body from the neck down to the ankles and the wrists. The suit must be certified to either one of the following standards and be labelled as such: SFI 3-2A/1 (equivalent or higher) or FIA 8856-2000 UNDERCLOTHING: It is strongly recommended that all drivers wear fire resistant underclothing (long pants and long sleeve t-shirt) inside their approved driving suit. This fire resistant underclothing should be made from an acceptable fire resistant material and should cover the driver’s body completely from neck down to ankles and also the wrists. NOTE: If you do not have fire resistant underclothing, it is strongly recommended that driver must wear cotton underclothing (t-shirt and long underpants) inside the approved driving suit. HELMET: A well-fitting closed face helmet with ISI standard and above must be used. Open-faced and motocross helmets are not allowed. All helmets to be used in the competition must be presented during Technical Inspection where approved helmets will be stickered. The organizer reserves the right to impound all non- approved helmets until the end of the competition. NECK SUPPORT: The neck support must be a full circle (360°) and SFI rated. Horseshoe collars are not allowed. BALACLAVA: A balaclava which covers the driver’s head, hair and neck, made from an acceptable fire resistant material as or a full helmet skirt of acceptable fire resistant material. The balaclava requirement applies to drivers of either gender, with any hair length. GLOVES: The gloves must be multilayered with extra foam sandwiched between them.

SFI 3.3 or higher FIA 8856-2000 NOTE: Sport shoes / Canvas shoes / Leather shoes / Industrial safety shoes are not allowed at any point of the event. SOCKS: Fire resistant socks made from acceptable fire resistant material or cotton socks that cover the exposed skin between the driver’s suit and the boots/shoes.

Ltd., CHAPTER 6 KART TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS 6.1 ENGINE REGISTRATION (FREE) After the Design Validation Round (Virtual), all the teams should register their engine details with BFKCT and the registration will be done at free of cost. During the call of engine registration separate link will enabled in the BFKCT official website and same to be send to team official email id. After engine registration process carried out, the team must send the scanned copy of the supporting documents (RC Book) to the BFKCT official email id. As you all belongs to student community, so before purchase the vehicle or engine, teams are advised to purchase from a trusted dealer only. Without engine number or re - structured engine number will be associated in illegal issues, so, it may directly result into disqualification of team from the event. 6.2 VEHICLE POWER TRAIN Teams can select any Engine Meeting the Following Requirements Engine Type - Single Cylinder, Four Stroke Gasoline Engine Cooling System - Air Maximum Capacity - 130cc Type of Transmission - Manual gearbox / CVT / Centrifugal Clutch type 6.3 ENGINE TUNING Teams are free to modify/tune the engine but it does not affect the engine actual cubic capacity CC. The CC of the engine will be also checked before the dynamic round using sophisticated equipment. BFKCT authorities trust the student community that, they are not involved to increasing the cubic capacity while replacing the cylinder and piston etc.,

Ltd., Further, that may notified by the BFKCT inspection or organization or other college team members, it will lead to disqualifying the team from the event. Even at the end of race, Engine of suspected karts may be inspected. However, any team involved to alter the cubic capacity of cylinder, will be disqualified from the event. 6.4 VEHICLE REGISTRATION PAPERS Original bills or the original vehicle registration papers (if vehicle belongs to a team member) or an attested No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the owner with the original Registration Papers is to be submitted during Technical Inspection. The team fail to bring the document or fail to submit the same which leads to disqualifying the team from the event. 6.5 CHASSIS MATERIAL The tube/rectangular pipe used in the fabrication of the chassis or the other frames/supports may be seamless. Minimum cross section must be 25.4 mm, for pipe it will be OD and for rectangular section or square section, it will be its minimum height. Chassis material must have minimum wall thickness of 1.5 mm. Material certification is essentially required to be produced during the technical inspection. Material should be certified from any of the material testing laboratories for its chemical and mechanical properties, the same report should be presented at the time of inspection and throughout the event. 6.6 KERB WEIGHT OF THE KART Kerb Weight is the total weight of a vehicle with standard equipment, all necessary operating consumables such as motor oil, transmission oil, coolant, and sometimes a full tank of fuel. Kerb Weight of the vehicle should not exceed more than 140 Kg.

Ltd., 6.7 BUMPER (FRONT, REAR AND SIDE) Bumpers must be installed in the front, rear and side of the vehicle such that it will cover the tyres and protect the driver from any collision. Bumpers must be made of steel tubes and chassis materials. Minimum dia of 25.4 mm and minimum wall thickness 1.5 mm. Bumper can be covered by elastic materials in order to reduce the impact force. Bumpers must have proper accessibility for use as towing provision or point or where temporary toe rod can be pull the vehicle. 6.8 BRAKING SYSTEM The braking system must be installed for capable of stopping the vehicle in a straight line without losing control or skid during the brake test with the speed not less than 40 kmph on a straight stretch length of 50 meters. The kart must have hydraulic braking system and the pedal must directly actuate by the master cylinder through a rigid link (i.e., cables are not allowed). All brake lines must be well routed and securely mounted within the vehicle. Electronic braking systems are not allowed. If any wheel having disc brake system, bleeding ports for disc caliper should be upside of piston mechanism of caliper. There should be no leakage from the tandem master cylinder (TMC) or reservoir and throughout the brake linings. Proper linkage setup should be done to actuate the tandem master cylinder from the brake pedal 6.9 BRAKE OVER TRAVEL SWITCH All the Karts must have properly mounted brakes rigidly over travel switch or kill switch. This switch should not be function in normal braking conditions; it must act in case of brake failure or sudden loss of hydraulic pressure or the over travel of the brake paddle in case of brake failure. This switch must kill the engine (off the engine) and other electrical equipment’s except brake light. push to off switch must be used. It should not affect brake light. .Refer the image

Ltd., 6.10 KILL SWITCH The Kart must be enabled with at least two kill switches. The kill switch must kill engine ignition. First Kill switch must be rigidly placed on easily accessible to the driver. The second kill switch must be mounted the back side of the driver, which is easily accessible to the team mates or other officials. Both the kill switch position must be clearly visible to inspection team and others. Kill switches should be rigidly mounted .plastic tags or insulation are not allowed. Kill switch should be red in color refer the image above. 6.11 CHASSIS DESIGN The vehicle must have four (4) wheels that cannot be in a straight line in longitudinal direction. Holes in chassis are not permitted. 6.12 VEHICLE DIMENSIONS The vehicle must have a wheelbase of at least 42 inch. The wheel base is measured from centre of the front wheel axle to rear wheel axle. The overall length should be less than or equal 76 Inch, width less than 60 inch including body works and bumpers and height maximum of 38 inch from the ground. 6.13 GROUND CLEARANCE The ground clearance must be sufficient to prevent any portion of the vehicle (other than tires) from touching the ground during track events. Also, keeping the contemporary designs of karts in mind, the ground clearance for the brake rotors and sprockets, if used, is to be a minimum of 25.4 mm. With the driver , there must be a minimum 1 inches and maximum 5 inches ground clearance measured at any of the lowest point, under the complete vehicle at all times.

Ltd., 6.14 NERF BARS The vehicle should be mounted to the NERF BAR on the both side of the kart. The nerf bar should be of 22 inches in length, height must be minimum of 10 inches and maximum of 15 inches and dia must be 1”inch steel tube and thickness must be 2 mm. NERF bar must be mounted and 2 points. For clarification refer the image below. 6.15 WHEELBASE AND WHEEL TRACK The wheelbase of the vehicle must be between 42 - 56 inches and the smaller track width (front or rear) must be no less than 70% of the wheelbase of the vehicle and the calculation sheet for wheel base and track width should be submitted during the technical inspection authority. 6.16 MAXIMUM TURNING RADIUS The maximum turning radius of the Kart must be less than or equal to 3.0 m. The Turning radius test will be the part of technical inspection which does not carry any points or Awards, but clearing the test is mandatory.

Ltd., 6.17 SUSPENSION The suspension system may or may not be used in the vehicle, depending upon the design feasibility and the choice of the team. In case any team wishes to use the suspension system, it must have a total travel of at least 2 inches i.e. 1inch for jounce and 1inch for rebound. The suspension system should have proper geometric elements, kinematic simulations and calculation details need to added in the virtual report if possible. BFKCT do not recommend the suspension systems, but BFKCT provide liberty to the students to produce high performance vehicle with their innovation. 6.18 STEERING SYSTEM The steering system must be able to control (simultaneously) at least two (2) wheels. The steering system must have positive steering stops that prevent the steering linkages from locking up either in RH or LH turning (the inversion of a four-bar linkage at one of the pivots). The stops may be placed on the uprights or on the rack and must prevent the tires from contacting suspension, body, tie rod or frame members during the track events. Allowable total steering system free play (inclusive of play in all the steering linkages) is limited to a maximum of 7 degrees, measured at the steering wheel. Steer by Wire is allowed, only if it completely electric, and should be manufactured by the team members only, outsourced assemblies or pre-fabricated systems are not allowed. 6.19 VISIBILITY REQUIREMENT The engine compartment must be completely visible to the examiners in case they wish to see the assembly. Furthermore, from the driver seated position, the driver must be able to see clearly 180 degrees on his either side without any obstructions to the field of view.

Ltd., 6.20 FUEL TANK AND ITS POSITION The fuel tank must be rigidly mounted to the vehicle in at least two points. The capacity of the fuel tank can be kept up to 5 liters. Every fuel tank must have proper ventilation system and the spill out fuel should be stored in the catch can mounted on the vehicle system and the spill out fuel should be stored in the catch can which is mounted on the vehicle. The drain house should be properly routed and clamped in right manner to the catch can. The fuel tank should be mounted in such a way that no heating parts or moving parts are not engaged or be in contact with the tank. Team must use clamps at the joints of fuel house pipe and rigidly mounted. Drain hose from spill can and breather valve to be stored in catch can. Air filters must be useded. 6.21 DRIVER SEAT Kart vehicle must have proper bucket Seats as shown in figure. The seat mounting must be rigid enough to withstand the dynamic conditions during the track events. The driver seat must maintain at least 2 inch clearance from the firewall. Alignment of the Karting driver seat must be parallel to Kart’s longitudinal axis. 6.22 SEATING ERGONOMICS While designing the kart, ergonomics design must be consider for comfort of the driver. The knee angle should be maintaining not less than 135°. Back angle not less than 30° and elbow angle not less than 110° during static conditions. The driver should able to see around 180° form his / her seating position.

Ltd., 6.24 BRAKE LIGHT The vehicle must be installed with a brake light red in colour, which is clearly visible from the rear. BFKCT recommend to using LED brake light because it is high visibility in sunlight. The light fittings must be mounted on adequate location between the wheel axis lines. All electrical wiring and connection with good engineering practice are highly appreciable. Refer the image 6.25 EXHAUST SYSTEM The exhaust system should be so chosen such that it can reduce the emission of harmful gases from the exhaust as per the government norms. Use of suitable catalytic converter and the mufflers is recommended. The exhaust system must properly shield to preventing the delicate parts which may get affected from exposed engine heat. The exhaust must be mounted properly to avoid the physical contacts of the viewers or the technical inspectors. Shielding to exhaust pipe with cotton rope, jute rope is strictly prohibited. Team can use metallic porous sheet or relevant equal material to cover the entire exhaust systems. Exhaust sound should not exceed 100 decibels. Exhaust should be inside karts periphery. Exhaust fumes must be discharged towards the rear in downward flow of exhaust fumes. 6.26 WHEELS AND TYRES Teams must use standard Go-Karting tyres that is threaded or non threaded. 6.27 LOCK NUTS Locking nuts are mandatory to be used everywhere in the vehicle. Failure to fulfil these requirements, the team will reject in Technical Inspection. Usage of normal nuts in moving parts are strictly prohibited

Ltd., 6.28 BOLTS All bolts used in the system must meet metric grade M 8.8. No fasteners used should be less than 8.8 hardness. Thread lockers spring washers are prohibited. All fasteners used should have minimum three (3) threads showing past the nut. 6.29 FIRE EXTINGUISHER Each team must have at least two (2) nos. of 1 kg ABC type fire extinguishers. One rigidly mounted with vehicle and should be easily accessible to the driver in case of emergency and another with crew member at all dynamic events. Fire extinguisher should be working in condition. It should bear a sticker or a bill clearly mentioning its date of manufacturing and month of expiry. 6.30 PATH FOR WIRES AND PIPES No pipelines / wire connections must go under the chassis. It is strictly prohibited. Doing it may lead to disqualification of the team. It should be properly routed, should not make any contact with driver and with rotating or moving parts. Should not be kept loose & make contact with engine or exhaust system. 6.31 FIREWALL Firewall is a shield which protects the driver from the heat produced by the engine. It should be made in such a manner that driver’s body parts are not affected by the engine heat at any time during the dynamic/static condition. There should be minimum 3 inches clearance between the firewall and the engine cylinder block and minimum 1 inches clearance between the firewall and other parts of engine. 6.32 UNSTABLE VEHICLE Any vehicle exhibiting handling issues or vehicle dynamics such as wobbling that are deemed the kart as unstable the BFKCT technical committee will not permitted to participate in dynamic events. This is in the interest of safety of all teams members and drivers. 6.33 FLOOR PLAN Every vehicle should be having a proper and sufficient floor protecting driver from any foreign particle accidentally entering from the base of the vehicle. It should cover from the front end of the kart to rear part of driver seat. 6.34 KART STAND Kart Stand is essentially required for every team during technical inspection. The design of the stand can be anything but it must be able to move when pushed or pulled. The stand must be ergonomically suitable to work on. The stand must be at least 30 inches from the ground. The stand must be equipped with small tires so that it can be easily moved. Team can use pre-fabricated stand also. 6.35 FINAL VEHICLE DESIGN The design report must contain a valid and complete design of the vehicle including all subsystems with enumerated calculations report. 6.36 KART STARTING SYSTEM Kart must enabled self-stating arrangement and kick start method is strictly prohibited.

Ltd., 6.37 POWER TRAIN GUARDS There must be protection of chain and sprocket by using metal sheet of minimum 2mm thickness to ensure safety of power train.A complete cover around the engine and drive-train is an acceptable shield. There must not be any sharp edges on the complete vehicle. There should be at least 20mm gap between the power train and chain gurard. It should be mounted ridigly. 6.38 IDENTIFICATION OF VEHICLE Each team will be given a vehicle number or a code, and the vehicle will be called by this number/ Code in the whole event. Teams are advised not to place any logos on the front part of the vehicle because the vehicle number will be placed on the front of the vehicle. The kart number must be clearly visible from all sides, front and rear of the vehicle. The size of the letter approximately 152 X 76 mm and the letter width 15mm.The identification of vehicle number or code should be black colour number with yellow background. 6.39 TOE POINT There must be two toe points; one must be in front and the other must be at the rear. Toe points must be painted with red colour for easy identification. Toe point must be rotate with 90°. During the operation at any angle between 0-90° it should not losing the strength. During the process toeing suitable rod must be used and ropes are not allowed.

Ltd., 6.40 BODY WORK The bodywork as shown below of the front panel must be designed and fabricated such that the vehicle number, team number, team name, team logo and the BFKCT logo to be displayed clearly. There must be bodywork over rear bumpers, side bumpers and front bumpers and nose. Teams have freedom to use any type of bodywork for aesthetic look of their kart. As in general driver egress should be less than 5 seconds. GENERAL NOTE: Please note that only self-fabricated body works are consider for the evaluation of the winner for aesthetics. The team are free to design any type of body works. But the minimum requirement must be full filled.

Ltd., CHAPTER 7 DESIGN VALIDATION ROUND (VIRTUAL) NO ELIMINATION IN THE VIRTUAL ROUND 7.1 DESIGN VALIDATION ROUND (VIRTUAL) (DVR) DVR consists of 250 points in which presentation of all the research and development over the vehicle is to be given in front of the judges in 20 minutes (including questionnaire round). DVR details should be uploaded at the team portal on the BFKCT website. The prime objective is to design, analysis and documentation of the Go-kart vehicle. The design should be complete in all aspects to the extent of being considered ready to Manufacturing. The teams will be evaluated based on their knowledge of the basic automotive design, analysis and documentation about the Go-Kart design and manufacturing requirements. DESIGN REPORT The design report should contain design and details of all the components used in the kart and the reason for selection of that particular component/system. Design report will be verified with the vehicle at the time of static and dynamic event, so the design must be done carefully. Document must be submitted in pdf format. All the teams should provide design drafts of their vehicle upon entering the design tent. These drafts should show the basic design views of the major components. 3. INNOVATION REPORT The innovation will be evaluated during the Final Round. The evaluation will be done on the basis of team interview, proper working of innovation throughout the event (in all the dynamic tests) and the concept of the innovation. Innovations which have been already done successfully in the field of Go Karting; will not be considered as the innovations, teams need to come up with entirely new and unique idea of innovation with working and not only an idea. 4. COST REPORT The vehicle must be manufactured in the budget INR 1,00,000. Market survey of all the components/systems used in the manufacturing of the vehicle in the form of cost report must be submitted with the design report. The cost report should elaborate. Every component / assembly of the vehicle must be covered in the cost report. No need of accounting GST in the cost report. Cost excluding GST is expected in the report.

DESIGN VALIDATION PLAN The design validation plan is the assurance that a product, service, or system meets the needs of the customer and other identified stakeholders. It often involves acceptance and suitability with external customers. All the virtual and real time tests and analysis are to be included in the design validation plan. 6. DESIGN FAILURE MODE EFFECT AND ANALYSIS (DFMEA) A DFMEA is often the first step of a system reliability study. It involves reviewing as many components, assemblies, and subsystems as possible to identify failure modes, and their causes and effects. For each component, the failure modes and their resulting effects on the rest of the system are recorded in a specific FMEA worksheet. There are three different types of DFMEA exists such as Functional, Design and Process. It is widely used in development and manufacturing kart in various phases of the product life cycle analysis. 7. GANTT CHARTS Gantt charts illustrate the start and finish dates of Art to Part elements of the go-kart fabrication project. This chart is basically the management of the project and distribution of different tasks of the team members completed with stipulated time. The Gantt chart must be attached along with the design report.

Ltd., CHAPTER 8 CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND 8.1 STATIC TESTS DESIGN REPORT VS VEHICLE ANALYSIS (Best Engineering Design and Best CAE) The vehicle will be verified with the design report and deviations from the design report should not be allowed until and unless completely justify with documented reasons. Same way, BFKCT understands the student’s difficulties during the manufacturing process of the kart. For the benefit of the students deviation up to 10% from the design report is acceptable. Further it will lead to penalized accordingly. MANUFACTURING LEVEL (Build Quality and Aesthetics) Good engineering practice will lead to good manufacturing skill. The vehicle will be examined and evaluated by the judges at the time of static and dynamic test, so the participating teams are advised to manufacture the vehicle with pre-planned strategies so that the vehicle would be able to compete in several tasks and tests. DISCUSSION (QUESTIONNAIRE) In the static test event, during evaluation and examine the vehicle, technical team may interact with team members as individual or whole. So, the BFKCT advised the team members to prepare kart related technical details for exhibits their talent to impress the technical team members. INNOVATION The innovation planned in the vehicle to be presented in Design Validation Round (Virtual). The presented concepts will be discussed with the team and its working will be examined by the technical team in the respective pit of the teams. Team needs to present innovation report at the time of explaining the innovation. The innovation should be working and not just for the concept.

Ltd., TECHNICAL INSPECTION Before the dynamic event there will be Technical Inspection (TI) which does not carry any points but is mandatory for participating in dynamic event. TI will be very strict based on rulebook parameter and safety checks of the vehicle (No Deviation from rule book). The team will be given only 2 chances for the TI test failing which the team will be considered disqualified for the dynamic events. BRAKE TEST VIDEO SUBMISSION Team are required to have properly working brake system before coming to event in such manner that all wheels should be locked after applying brake and kart must stop in straight line. SAFETY EQUIPMENT’S Every team is advised to use proper safety equipment’s during manufacturing or during any repair work carried out on site. Technical team will inspect the safety equipment’s during Technical Inspection. SAFETY PRECAUTIONS ➢ Vehicle lifting by hand is not allowed, every team must use jack to lift the vehicle during repair work. ➢ Every member should wear proper shoes, workshop gloves and full sleeves cloths. DRIVER EXIT TIME Maximum driver out time is 5sec, within this interval of time driver has to come out from the cockpit.

Ltd., BUSINESS PLAN Teams are expected to prepare a complete business plan by understanding the sector and industry. Every team has to do the complete market survey of the same segment and prepare the strategies to target the customers. Team has to prepare a presentation, which has to be presented during the final round. Team has to convince the judges with their business plan presentation. Every team has to submit the complete business plan report in two phases. Teams are advised not to include any confidentiality agreement in the business plan; our aim is to evaluate the concept of your business idea not to sell out your idea in market. Preliminary report has to be submitted before the final round (Refer chapter 1 for the submission schedule) and the final report has to be submitted on the final round. Teams are expected to work upon the following points and prepare both the report and the presentation accordingly; Executive Summary: This includes the organizational structure of your company. You need clearly define the roles for each member of the executive board. This member will then be responsible for the same in the report to follow. Introduction to the Company: Introduce your company and its vision and mission statement. Business/Company Profile: Explain your company profile in brief. Team are encouraged to prepare the brochure of the company, which will cover the entire details of the product. Industry and Market Analysis: Thorough and complete survey of industry performance of last 2 years. Market analysis for the demand of the product in the competition. Competitor analysis should be included with the detailed report on the same. Marketing Strategies: The basic plan of the company to tap the available market. Types of strategies the company proposes for marketing.

Ltd., Operation Plan: The whole operation plan and the basic layout men and machine used for the processes. Basic machining processes available in-house and the out sourced processes. The logistics and warehousing methods used in the company. The after sales and support proposed method also added. Sales forecast and Strategies: The teams are required to forecast their sales for the next five years and their strategies to achieve these sales target. If necessary the teams can also include the spare parts sales too. Environmental Impact: The teams are required to give a report on the environmental impact caused due to their manufacturing activities and their measures to reduce the impact caused. Also, the teams are required to include an innovation to reduce the pollution caused by their vehicles. Cost Plans: Teams are required to give a detailed cost report of their activities for the next 5 years. The exact calculation of the breakeven period as well as break-even quantity is a must. The capital structure of the company should be well explained. Cost plans must include the consideration of warranty costs as well. The costs of depreciation should also be considered. Note: Roles and responsibilities of the company have to be distributed between minimum of 5 members. This means, the executive board must consist of minimum 5 members. 8.2 DYNAMIC TESTS Scoring formulas and other guidelines for the dynamic tests will be uploaded in the team accounts. 8.3 BRAKE TEST (3 Attempts) It’s mandatory for a vehicle to pass the brake test to participate in any of the dynamic events. The vehicle must stop in a straight line after the brake is applied on the vehicle and the wheels on which the brake mechanism is acting must get locked

Each vehicle will be given only 3 attempts to pass the brake test. If any kart not clear the brake test, further the kart will be disqualified from the event. Vehicle dynamic stability will also be checked during this test, vehicle possessing abnormal behavior will be checked again. The TI can be cancelled if the vehicle is found dynamically unstable or unsafe in the Brake Test. Few frequently occurred problems are listed below ➢ Abnormal noise from the transmission ➢ Brake squeal noise ➢ Unbalanced frame or frame twisting or frame vibration ➢ Improper wheel alignment etc. If these issues found in the kart during the inspection, Technical Inspection will be cancelled and chance will be provide to team to rectify it. 8.4 ACCELERATION TEST The objective of the acceleration determines the time it takes the vehicle to accelerate along 100 ft long on flat surface or road. Each team may make two (2) attempts same or different drivers. Scoring will be based on the better of the two attempts. Timing may be done using either electronic systems or stop watches. DNF- Vehicles that have not run by the end of the event (determined by the organizer) will receive a Did Not Finish (DNF).

Ltd., 8.5 SKID PAD TEST The objective of the skid-pad event is to measure the Kart cornering ability on a flat surface while making a constant-radius turn. SKID PAD LAYOUT There will be two (2) pairs of concentric circles in a figure as shown in figure (images and dimensions sourced from SAE formula 2012) of eight pattern. The centers of these circles will be 18.25 m apart. The inner circles will be 15.25 m in diameter, and the outer circles will be 18.25 m in diameter. The driving path will be the 3 m path between the inner and outer circles. The vehicles will enter and exit through gates on a 3 m wide path that is tangential to the circles where they meet. The line between the centers of the circles defines the start/stop line. A lap is defined as travelling around one (1) of the circles from the start/stop line and returning to the start/stop line. According to the event venue the skid pad layout may change as “S” and the dimensions may vary.

Ltd., PROCEDURE: The vehicles will enter perpendicular to the figure eight and will take one full lap on the right circle to establish the turn. The next lap will be on the right circle and will be timed. Immediately following the second lap, the vehicle will enter the left circle for the third lap. The fourth lap will be on the left circle and will be timed. Immediately upon finishing the fourth lap, the vehicle will exit the track. The vehicle will exit at the intersection moving in the same direction as entered. A driver has the option to take a second run immediately after the first. PENALTIES CONES DOWN OR OUT: A penalty of 0.50 seconds will be added to the time for every cone that is knocked ―down or out (including gate cones). DNF: Vehicles that spin-out can continue as long as they have not gone off course will be classified as DNF. Incorrect Laps- Vehicles that do not follow procedure i.e. run an incorrect number of laps or run the Laps in the wrong sequence will be classified as DNF. 8.6 AUTOCROSS The objective of the autocross event is to evaluate the vehicle's manoeuvrability and handling qualities on a tight course without the hindrance of competing vehicles. The autocross course will combine the performance features of acceleration, braking, and cornering into one event. PROCEDURE: The vehicle will be staged such that the front wheels are 6 m behind the starting line. The timer starts only after the vehicle crosses the start line. There will be no particular order of the vehicles to run each heat. The organizer will determine the allowable windows for each heat and retains the right to adjust for weather or technical delays. NOTE: Each team will get one (1) attempt only. Distance between each cone =3.5M

Teams are not allowed to work on the kart during the heat. Driver change is not allowed during the heat. Passing another vehicle may only be done in an established passing zone. The BFKCT have full rights to increase (or) decrease the no of laps 8.7 ENDURANCE TEST RIGHT TO CHANGE PROCEDURE The following are general guidelines for conducting the endurance event. The organizers reserve the right to establish procedures specific to the conduct of the event at the racing circuit. Endurance Objective: The Endurance Event is designed to evaluate the overall performance of the vehicle and to test the vehicle’s reliability.

Ltd., The BFKCT have full rights to increase (or) decrease the no of laps Refuelling will not be allowed during an endurance heat PROCEDURE: All the karts eligible for the endurance test will be divided into batches (number of karts per batch will be decided on the endurance day only).. The event will be run as a single heat approximately 21 km (10 Laps) long. Teams are not allowed to work on their vehicles during the heat.. Wheel-to-wheel racing is prohibited. Passing another vehicle may only be done in an established passing zone. VEHICLE BREAKDOWN AND STALLS: If a vehicle breaks down it will be removed from the course and will not be allowed to re-enter the course. If a vehicle stalls, or ingests a cone, etc., it will be allowed to restart and re-enter the course where it went off, but no work may be performed on the vehicle. If a Kart stop and cannot be restarted without external assistance, the track workers will push the kart clear of the track. At the discretion of event officials, two (2) team members may retrieve the kart under direction of the track workers. ENDURANCE MINIMUM SPEED REQUIREMENT: If a kart is unable to maintain lap times within 135% of the fastest lap time for the course, and then it must exit immediately. Disqualification for failure to maintain the minimum speed will be made at the discretion of the Director of Operations. ENDURANCE LAP TIMING: Each lap of the endurance event will be individually timed by electronic or by stop watch. The time for an individual heat will be determined by subtracting the extra-long lap for the driver change from the total time and adding any penalty points.

Ltd., 8.5 PENALTIES Failure to obey a flag: 1 minute Over Driving (After a closed black flag):1 Minute Vehicle to Vehicle contact: DISQUALIFIED Out of Order: Running out of order – two (2) minute penalty Mechanical Problem: No additional penalty other than the time lost to ensure that the car is safe to continue. Rash or Aggressive Driving: Any rash or aggressive driving behaviour (such as forcing another car off the track, refusal to allow passing, or close driving that would cause the likelihood of car contact) will result in a black flag for that driver. When a driver receives a black flag signal, he must proceed to the penalty box to listen to a reprimand for his driving behaviour. The amount of time spent in the penalty box will vary from one (1) to four (4) minutes depending upon the severity of the offense. Inexperienced Driver: The BFKCT organizing team may disqualify a driver if the driver is too slow, too aggressive, or driving in a manner that, in the sole opinion of the event, officials, demonstrates an inability to properly control their car resulting in a DNF.

Ltd., CHAPTER 9 JUDGEMENT CATEGORIES 9.0 JUDGING CRITERION The participating teams are judged in two rounds i.e. Design Validation Round (Virtual), Static Test, Dynamic Test and Endurance Test. Design Validation Round (Virtual) shortlists and awarded will be based on the presentation of the design report and various other parameters within the presentation. Virtual is the stage in which the documents like Vehicle Design, Design Report, Innovation, Cost Analysis, Design Validation and Gantt chart. Reports to be evaluated by the judges followed bya presentation and discussion with the team representatives the team may be awarded in three categories. As Design Presentation First, Second and Third. The decision of the judges will be final and binding. The teams, and their fabricated Go-Kart Vehicles will be judged in a series of static and dynamic event including Technical Inspection, Cost, Marketing presentation, Engineering Design, performance and Endurance test on the track. The judges will be observing all the team members and may ask questions randomly to any team members for evaluating various parameters these events are scored to determine how well the vehicle performs.
