This presentation went into the aspects of educational media beyond the broadcast era presented by Ingrid Bruynse at the learning landscapes conference April 2014
6. The internet connectivity problems
mean “open” is only open when you
have access (3%). Now what??
"digitised materials offered freely and
openly for educators, students, and
self-learners to use and reuse for
teaching, learning, and research. OER
includes learning content, software
tools to develop, use, and distribute
content, and implementation
resources such as open licences"
Publishing for learning

Project to increase access to knowledge in this
developing country using the Knowledge Box.
The knowledge box is a kiosk-based computer system

19. WHAT CAN DIGITAL MEDIA DO?
MAKING CONTENT ACCESSIBLE
SHARING CONTENT
OUTREACH FOR NATIONAL COHESION
USING ICTS FOR LEARNING AND
DEVELOPMENT
21. Visitors - take away content |
Visitors, educators, learners, can search, preview and download
singular or multiple items from the Knowledge Box using a
CD, DVD or USB flash drive.
If someone has a tablet, smart phone or laptop they are also
able to navigate the content wirelessly on their device while
connecting easily to the Knowledge Box WIFI Hotspot.
Should the user not have access to any digital device, they can
choose the option to print directly from the interface.
22. Innovation is a cycle It’s
not a destination!
Educational content of all kinds –
videos, exam papers, clips, books, software and more..!
23. THE STORY OF SOCIAL
ENTREPRENEURS
What do ]we do differently from corporate employees?
What does NOT work is more valuable than
good case studies, successful data.
What works for now, won’t work forever!
24. WE NEED:
1. Ubiquitous access (cables, ADSL and WiFi
rollout)
2. Digital Content repositories (offline /online
and shared) will proliferate and then
standardize.
We need to work together to make education
available to everyone.
Educational media for all!
It’s about team work, and collaboration –
authoring will get you there.
Conclusions
25. 1. Innovation cycles don't end: space to showcase old and
new solutions as the learning cycles continue. E.g. also /
new is not everything: e.g. Radio is still here.
2. Teachers need both to be helped and heard: reach to
share quality educational content to use next day:
3. The trend to amateur balanced by the learning from the
professional: focus on quality of publication and
broadcast.
4. Conference and open spaces for sharing both success
and failure.
5. Formalizing and funding networks of technology in
education: media4learning - join online; Also hearing
informal gatherings of social entrepreneurs working in
new ways for no money and no product punting. Both
ways stretch.
