Cost-Benefit Analysis Method (CBAM) is an analytical framework that assesses the economic efficiency of policy proposals by calculating their net benefits, which are determined by quantifying all relevant costs and benefits over the long term. CBAM is useful because it allows consideration of different policy options, determines which option maximizes net benefits, and shows costs and benefits for different stakeholder groups. Government agencies are expected to increasingly use CBAM for regulatory impact analysis, so understanding its basic steps - which include identifying and quantifying impacts, assigning monetary values, and comparing net present values of options - is important. The CBAM Unit can provide assistance and guidance to improve agencies' use of this technique.

Highly cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) has been shown to reduce wear rates compared to conventional polyethylene in hip replacements. This reduced wear is associated with lower rates of osteolysis. XLPE appears compatible with large diameter heads, though thin liners may be at increased risk of early failure. Fatigue properties of XLPE are favorable though long-term data is still needed. Ceramic-on-ceramic bearings have the lowest wear rates of any bearing surface but can fracture, though modern designs have low fracture risks. Ceramic generates fewer inflammatory particles than other bearings and may have the best long-term durability without osteolysis. Metal-on-metal bearings are no longer recommended due to high revision rates

Print Management MPS A Winning CombinationLarry Levine
While many MPS engagements focus on assessing and optimizing the print fleet to make costs predictable, this approach alone does not deliver the full benefits possible. Integrating print management allows organizations to understand user print behavior, streamline workflows, and change habits to reduce volumes and waste. This leads to greater cost savings than device-focused MPS alone and improves processes through user acceptance of managed printing. KeyBank saw a 40% reduction in pages and over $2 million in savings through the combination of print management and MPS.

Introduction
The global retail industry has weathered numerous storms, with the financial crisis of 2008 serving as a poignant reminder of the sector's resilience and adaptability. However, as we navigate the complex landscape of 2024, retailers face a unique set of challenges that demand innovative strategies and a fundamental shift in mindset. This white paper contrasts the impact of the 2008 recession on the retail sector with the current headwinds retailers are grappling with, while offering a comprehensive roadmap for success in this new paradigm.

Best Practices in Printer Fleet Management
Best practices for print service management follow quality IT business models of;
Plan Design Measure Analyse Improve Control.
1. Develop a Print Strategy:
For businesses who wish to reduce costs by managing their printing, a document and print strategy is essential.
Best practices conclude that fleet assessment and strategy development should be hardware manufacturer
independent. Independence should deliver a high degree of objectivity. Without this independence, the risk is that
the assessment will be focused on hardware technology, not business needs.
An advanced Print Strategy should be policy driven with the flexibility to encompass new policies quickly and
efficiently as business changes dictate enabling a high degree of business agility. It should include a clear definition
of the infrastructure tools to support the implementation and management of the strategy, Current and future
functional requirements, Design principles and policies, device retirement policies, service policies covering device
and user service availability, baseline print costs, their drivers and cost targets, implementation recommendations
sensitive for the rate of change you business can realistically manage, a solution scalable corporate-wide not just
focused on proof of concept and pilot sites, and method for measuring results of implementation. A proposal from
a supplier for more services and/or hardware does not constitute a strategy. Your strategy infrastructure tools
should be independent from the hardware vendor to ensure you have an objective view for both the short
medium and long term. Relying on the manufacturer to decide which device is most cost effective for your
corporation carries the risk that the hardware vendor who is motivated to sell more devices and associated
consumables - ink & toner will recommend just that. The corporate print strategy should be revisited every 3 to 5
years which should include proper benchmarking.
2. Establish a service baseline:
The baseline assessment is used as the starting point for developing the corporate print strategy. During baseline
assessment, best practices incorporate all costs into the picture, not just consumables - the largest cost being
human resources and their efficiency in using the service. The service baseline should consider device and printing
behaviour over a period of time, 30 to 60 days, and include how the service is delivered, what impacts it is having
on business cost and productivity, what the functional needs of the business are, how much printing is being
produced, and what is being purchased at what cost.
Note: If the current Print Service Provider already has a printer fleet management tool which contains a database
of device inventory, printing activity and printer events, his revenue could be increased by offering professional
independent assessment services. In addition, the service provider should be able to prepare a competitive
managed print services proposal based upon the current inventory and understanding of his client’s printing
history. A greater knowledge of the printer fleet than both their client and competitor is a significant strategic
advantage.
3. Treat printing equipment as an IT asset:
Best practices recognise that the Printer Fleet is a corporate asset, and therefore should be managed as any other
IT asset. Printer asset management should look at the fleet from the enterprise perspective building this from each
device through its lifecycle history. A printer lifecycle encompasses purchase decisions, upgrades, printer
financials, maintenance, supplies management, moves and retirement. The enterprise perspective looks at the
fleet inventory using corporate metrics, comparisons and trends, making decisions from a global, rather than, unit
or commodity basis.
Most suppliers look at a snapshot in time to track, optimise & identify cost savings. To do this, approximations for
costs are used which are often highly inaccurate. Your print strategy infrastructure software suite should address
inventory cost, location and its changes through time, including maintenance, supplies usage and provide multi-
vendor equipment support. The information should allow you to decide when to retire printers and which
model/manufacturer is most cost effective as a replacement.
