This Is What Happens To Your Brain On Sugar Essay
Title: THIS Is What Happens To Your Brain On Sugar
Category: Health
Tags: Alzheimer s disease, too much sugar, sugar addict, sugar brain
Teaser: Too much sugar in your diet can damage a protein that is essential in fighting Alzheimer s
disease, in its early stages.
Article:
It s no secret; sugar, when consumed in excess leads you down the road to obesity and diabetes. Still,
sugar loaded foods and beverages have become a way of life for many Americans. So much so, that
the average person consumes about 20 teaspoons of sugar a day! That s about 14 teaspoons or 60
grams more than is recommended for a healthy diet. All that sugar not only makes you fat, but now
experts agree it may also lead to Alzheimer s. Here s what happens to your brain ... Show more

This figure is thought to rise to over 125 million by 2050. This amounts to hundreds of billions of
dollars spent on medical and social care because of the cognitive effects of the disease.
Dr. Omar Kassaar, also from the University of Bath, further added that excess sugar is well known to
be bad for us when it comes to diabetes and obesity, but this potential link with Alzheimer s disease is
yet another reason that we should be controlling our sugar intake in our diets.
Why we crave the white stuff
Your brain has built in evolutionary mechanisms that drive your cravings. Many of these mechanisms
are meant for survival, one of the which is eating. And of course, the release of hormones is also
involved according to Tufts. When you eat something sweet and delicious, the good feeling of the
experience is determined in part by hormone receptors. Over time, these receptors become less
sensitive to the hormones produced when we enjoy a particular food like chocolate cake. So, you ll
need to consume more and more chocolate cake to have the same pleasant experience.
We re addicted and we may not know it!
But it s not just the obvious treats like sugary soda, candy, cookies and cakes that turn us into sugar
addicts. Today s modern diet is so loaded with hidden sugars and sweeteners that we

Education Inequality In Education
In order for education to have a positive impact in communities, it is essential to ensure equality in
learning for all people. This does not necessarily mean ensuring equality in education outcomes for all
people because individual factors such as competency and ability varies among people. Students from
poor families are more likely to attend schools with a worse infrastructure, less qualified teachers, less
ambitious peers, and outmoded practices. Because of this, they are more likely to have lower learning
outcomes. Therefore, reducing educational inequality will have positive effects on developmental
outcomes. Ensuring equality in education delivery will also reduce discontent in countries and cities
(Inequality in education: The challenge of Measurement). Because of this, urgent solutions are needed
to address educational inequality.
Duncan and Murnane argue that economic and educational inequality greatly affects children s
educational and developmental outcomes in Restoring Opportunity: The crisis of inequality and the
challenge for American education. Duncan and Murnane point out that since the 1970s, there has been
a shift in technology and globalization. This makes receiving a K 12 education more important for life
skills than it has been in the past. Since the 1970 s, globalization and computerization have decreased
blue collar jobs and enhanced the job market. Despite this, there is still an issue of students attending
and paying for college, and this problem is

The Importance Of Freedom In American Society
One of the foundations of American society is the belief that freedom reigns above all else. However,
this does not seem to be the case in recent years. Due to early opposition to organization, the
Constitution in the United States outlines rights to freedom unprecedented in other areas around the
globe. Based originally in freedom of religion, American freedom exists in all arenas. For example,
freedom of speech provides all people with the ability to say anything on their mind. In some
situations, however, freedom does not offer the sense of safety many individuals desire. Recently there
have been several instances in the American cultural sphere that seem to lean the culture towards
embracing safety, even though such practices may compromise freedom itself. Instances of the sort
include the desire for protection from racism and violence based on race, availability of safe spaces, as
well as opposition to their establishment, isolationist policies within political parties, social media
influences and targeted advertising, as well as fear from large uncertainties like gun abuse and
terrorism. Freedom from ideas discourages freedom of ideas, but offers an illusion of safety to the
individual. Race relations have for generations been incredibly sensitive since the acceptance and
expansion of slavery in the 16th century. The ownership of another person due to their skin color is
not ethical in today s society and due to the overall lack of action taken to undo said actions,

Protein Chain Reaction Lab Report
Proteins are responsible for things like enzymes, antibodies, structure, transport, storage, and
messaging. In order for proteins to function properly and provide these functions in the body,
deoxyribonucleic acid is (DNA) required. DNA provides ribonucleic acid (RNA) that is translated into
a certain protein. These concepts lay the foundation for labs 5 through 7.
In lab 5, a series of steps were taken that allowed us to obtain purified genomic DNA. Polymerase
chain reaction (PCR) was utilized in order to acquire the specific gene that encodes for the protein
adhP. PCR works by using different temperatures and properties of DNA replication (i.e. DNA
polymerase) in order to amplify the gene needed. To see if our PCR ran at the end of lab 5 ... Show

DNA is a negative molecule so it will move towards our anode (positive end) as the small fragments
will move faster and the large ones slower. With a DNA ladder, we could compare the size of the gene
we needed to the marker with a known size. TOPO cloning along with transformation were then
carried out. With help from DNA topoisomerase, TOPO cloning uses our gene from the PCR reaction
and places it within our vector (pET101/D TOPO) via directional cloning. Directional cloning allows
us to control the direction of our insertion. During this procedure, we had to be careful not to mix too
thoroughly in order to keep the overhangs necessary intact. Also a master mix containing salt allowed
for a higher efficiency due to the fact that the salt prevents the topoisomerase from rebinding thus
potentially nicking the DNA post ligation. Heat shock was then used in order to ensure that our
plasmids were placed within the bacterial cells. The cells containing this plasmid could then be placed
on an LB plate with S.O.C. medium containing ampicillin. The S.O.C. medium contains nutrients that
allowed our transformed cells to survive and thrive. Ampicillin kills certain bacterial cells that do not
contain a resistance towards it. Our new transformed cells had this resistance so it ensured that the
colonies formed during incubation did in fact have the gene we were looking

Thomas Aquinas Divine Attributes
Choose two of the divine attributes discussed in lesson 127 and explain how Aquinas derives them.
God is one: Aquinas said if there were two or more gods, you would need a way to distinguish
between them. Since God is pure act, which Thomas reasoned in his first way, having more than one
god would be impossible. Lets say we could distinguish between them by the knowledge that one is
stronger than the other. This immediately disregards Thomas first way, saying that one god would
have an unrealized potentiality. Any characteristic that one god has or lacks over the other would mean
that the aren t fully potent and thus couldn t be first in an essential order and creator of all things.God

Theatre Personal Statement Essay
What got you interested in Theatre?
My interest in theatre started when I was living in Spain. My parents started a theatre company with
other military and US teachers. From the ages of 4 9, I got to play small roles or work backstage on
plays ranging from Shakespeare to Neil Simon. Where did you study and how long did it take?
In Undergrad, I majored in theatre and opera. Immediately after graduating I continued my studies in
theatre and opera performance in graduate school. The overall time in University was 7 years. After
Graduate school, I continued to train as an actor in NYC for three years at Terry Schreiber Studios.
How about your time on television, how did it differ from your theatre experience?
Having an understanding of Stanislavski s concentration exercises and the magic as if made it much
easier to focus acting to fit the lens. The other difference between film and TV is the order in which

I have many favorite memories, but here are two. When I was working on CYRANO DE
BERGERAC at the Walnut St. Theatre. The profoundly talented actor, Alan Scarfe was playing
Cyrano. Every moment I wasn t onstage, I stayed in the wings to watch his performance; particularly
the last scene where CYRANO dies. Oh, the simplicity of delivering heightened language and pure
emotion he was able to conjure!! Some of the best training I ve ever had.
The second memory was when I was cast in a National Tour of SHLEMIEL THE FIRST. The super
star here was the director, David Gordon, whom I had the privilege to work with several times after
the tour. David Gordon is one of the best movement based directors I ve ever worked with. He was a
master choreographer for the actor and could get a room full of people with different skill sets to
create stunning moving images. Also, I got my Equity Card from this tour and was cast in the

of the tariff on the number of imports. c. How did the imposition of the tariff change consumer
surplus? d. How did the imposition of the tariff change producer surplus? e. What is the overall result
of the tariff in terms of welfare? A. The US does not have a comparative advantage in wingdings

Part 2: Allowing free trade between countries can be beneficial, but it also imposes costs. Use the ITT
Tech Virtual Library to research the costs and benefits of allowing free trade. Discuss aspects of free
trade that some may consider unfair. For example: a. Distribution of costs and benefits of free trade. In
other words, does everyone share in the gains and the costs equally? b. Competing with different labor
restrictions (or lack thereof), such as slave or child labor. c. Differences in environmental standards. In
the following basic demand and supply model free trade allows countries to specialize in producing
the goods in which they have the lowest opportunity cost. This lowers the price of the good in other
countries, as those countries can import it from the lower cost countries. Generally, consumers in a
country benefit from the lower prices, but producers lose revenue because they produce less and at a
lower price in equilibrium (and the government gets less tax revenue if there was a tariff in place
before free trade). Overall, the total surplus is greater, but not everyone shares in the benefits and costs
equally. Manual labor (manual labor in American English) or manual work is physical work done by
people, most especially in contrast to that done by machines, and also to that done by working
animals. It

The World Of Collegiate Athletics
The world of collegiate athletics was founded upon the ideals of commercialism and is filled with
talented athletes that contain tremendous amounts of potential. Unfortunately, in order to bring in
revenue that serves as crucial funding for their universities nationwide, the NCAA exploits the talent
of these players and justifies this action by assuming the disguise of amateurism while also managing
to adopt an indistinct version of professionalism. Instead, the NCAA spends portions of its revenue in
order to renovate sports facilities and pay members of the coaching staff rather than providing
compensation for the main sources of its revenue the players and the attention that their athletic talents
bring to this organization. By ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By regarding participation in collegiate athletics as a hobby, the NCAA is subtly discrediting both the
hard work and dedication of college athletes. In their defense, the association of college athletics with
the word amateurism is believed to call these athletes to also put an emphasis on their education. Even
though collegiate athletics appear to be managed under the principles of amateurism and call athletes
to focus on their education, it doesn t necessarily mean that most of these athletes actually want to
emphasize education more than athletics. As talented individuals, college athletes work hard in order
to provide success for their respective teams and to properly ensure their own success at the next level.
Not only does an education that is forced upon some of them detract from their athletic aspirations,
but it also makes it highly infeasible for them to sustain a job that regular college students have the
chance to partake in. That is why a small form of compensation from the NCAA would not only
reward them for the mass amounts of revenue that they bring in, but it would also provide a source of
income that could only be obtained if these athletes were able to pursue job opportunities.
The power of athletic directors throughout the NCAA and their focus

Advertisers Target Youth
Over half of eight to 12 year olds will spend their own money. This essay is about how advertisers
target youth so they feel pressured to buy certain products. The three roles that advertisers play in the
lives of youth are that advertisers overwhelm youth with ads, design ads to target youth so they nag
their parents, and to target youth so they pressure others.
The first role that advertisers play in the lives of youth is that advertisers overwhelm youth with lots of
ads so youth feel pressured to buy things. First of all in the article $211 Billion and So Much to Buy:

I Can Not Control The World
I am the type of person who likes to be in control. I was self centered and felt the world should
revolve around me and my family which consists of my husband, Vince, and our boys, Cody and
Kyle. In 2008, I learned that I cannot control the world around me; there is a higher being for that, and
to cherish every moment I have with the people I love the most.
This story starts in 2000 when my husband received a job machining race motors in Mooresville,
North Carolina. This is 20 miles north of Charlotte and is considered part of NASCAR country. My
family and I packed up our belongings and moved on to a new adventure, leaving the rest of our
family behind. We finally arrived in November of 2000 and I was just amazed at the fall ... Show more

My favorite part of North Carolina were the azalea bushes. The bushes were in just about every yard
and the colors were beautiful with blooms that totally covered the bush with hot pink, light pink, and
white. The way the bushes were shaped and the colors reminded me of gumballs.
Then my world came crashing down. My husband and I were watching TV one evening when he
turned to me and said, I want to move back to Texas.
What for? I asked. I m home sick. I want to be closer to my mom and to take care of her since Bert has
passed away she is by herself now. He said.
I was shocked. I said, No! I love it here.
Vince looked exasperated with me and said, Don t you want to be closer to your mom? She is not
getting any younger either.
I told him, My mom is just fine. She can take care of herself.
I know that sounds harsh, but my mom and I are and have always been extremely close. At the time
she was living in Bryan College Station and working for Texas A M. She would come down a couple
times a year to spend time with us and we would take a whole day and go shopping, or I would take
her to a quaint little town to explore their downtown. On the way to where ever we were going, we
would talk about every subject under the sun. There were times when we were so engrossed in our
conversations that we would wind up getting lost. Mom is a great listener and a wonderful grandma. I

Suicide Intervention Plan For Suicide
Ashley Mazza Liberty University Suicide Intervention Plan I. Presenting Problems Joanne is currently

III. Risk Factors There are several risk factors that put Joanne at High Risk for suicide. She states that
she did not want to stay and talk, but that she just wanted to go for a drive and has a gun in the car, so
she is at a high risk given the methods and accessibility to those methods (Jackson Cherry Erford,
2018). She has previous suicide attempts, while there is no time frame on when those prior attempts
took place, it places her in at a moderate risk at the very least (if 1 to 5 years ago) (Jackson Cherry
Erford, 2018). She does not report loneliness or hopelessness at this current moment, but given her
history of depression, past divorce and no significant other, admissions of guilt over an affair, having
no hobbies and getting all her satisfaction from work, it is likely that she has or current is experiencing
some level of loneliness, and her past attempts are potentially indicative of hopelessness; all these
factors put her at a minimum of a moderate risk, but further information would probably lead to a high
risk. The divorce, lack of relationship or mention of friendships does put the loneliness at a high risk
due to having limited support (Jackson Cherry Erford, 2018). There is no mention of substance abuse.
There is also no point that she states suicidal plans or ideation, but her behaviors show some ideation
present. Her risk factors for chance of intervention are dependent on

Managing Strategic Change at the Hmv Group
Managing Strategic Change At The HMV Group |
1. Introduction HMV Group announced a three year strategic and operational review in March 2007.
The primary purpose of this dissertation is to analyse the methods used to manage this strategic
change and to discuss alternatives. The secondary focus is to assess the decision to change. At a time
of change, much focus is placed upon developing strategy and not enough on the implementation and
management side. It is possible that a perfect strategy for a situation is wasted by poor
implementation. A specific strategy can be developed over night, however; successful strategy
implementation is a much longer process. In order to analyse HMV Group s change management
efforts, it is crucial to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
ParadoxThere are many paradoxical issues present in change management. Just one manifestation of
this would be middle managers withholding information they are given to disseminate because they
wish to retain their knowledgeable image; defeating the point of a middle manager. Michael E Raynor
(2007) in his book entitled The Strategy Paradox presents the idea that a successful strategy requires
the full commitment of the organisation, which leads to unsuccessful performance overall; due to over
commitment. Flood and Dresher s (1950) Prisoners Dilemma, applied to the world of business, will
also conclude that non competition is the most effective path in the long run. Both imply that strong
competition efforts eventually lead to failure that mediocrity is the best route to follow as companies
have a silent agreement to operate in a state of equilibrium. However, in the case of HMV Group, its
operating industry is in decline; therefore failure is the only eventuality of a failure to compete.
ContextAs identified above, much of the literature on the subject of managing strategic change has an
element of paradox attached to it. The logical reason for this is that different methods depend on the
circumstances the organisation is faced with. As there are no exact laws of change management, this is
what makes the subject complex; but more interesting. Most of the literature aims to provide a theory
for each and every eventuality;

Inhorn s Analysis
Inhorn talks of the emerging areas of dissonance and dissent to the prevailing religious discourse
(2012a: 165), indicating that men more readily challenge the religious laws that are in place. The
setting that most embodies this observation is the semen collection clinic, where men must provide a
sample of their semen for analysis. Here, men encounter a number of obstacles that are so contrary to
their religious beliefs, but they must confront them to achieve their desire for children. The first is that
of masturbation, which, as discussed in the previous chapter, denotes something considered zina or
illegal sexual activity by many men and many religious leaders. Furthermore, semen itself is seen as
something polluting once it leaves the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, there are disparities between religious leaders in the region such as Ayatollah Khamene i
who permits sperm donation as an option to cure ones infertility. Morgan Clarke talks about how
Islam seeks to keep(ing) up with the times and this is especially apparent in Lebanon where there is a
high number of azoospermia cases men who have no viable semen whatsoever (Clarke, 2009; Inhorn
2012a). As a result, in Lebanon, there is much greater leniency towards sperm donation amongst
religious leaders and medical practitioners because it is the only option left for these men. The belief
however is that a child should be created within a legal marital structure and any outside or third party
interference in the form of another man s semen would disrupt this. Lineal masculinity , outlines the
difference between the roles of men and women in reproduction (King and Stone, 2010). Men need to
reproduce to preserve their lineage, and contribute to the lineage of their family that has accumulated
over generations. For men, lineage is collective, and any break in the passage of lineage from one
generation to the next, would result in the abolition of all that came before. These serious notions
underline why this type of NRT is so difficult to comprehend for these men. A man who categorically
ruled out sperm donation as a solution in Inhorn s study stated,

The Attack on Pearl Harbor Essay
December 7, 1941, was one of the worst attacks on the United States in U.S. history. Of that day 2,403
soldiers were killed in action, 1,178 were wounded in action. Numerous U.S. armed forces personnel

Japanese hit the U.S. where they knew it would hurt the most, but it crippled the United States entire

Not only did the United States freeze all Japanese assets under U.S. control but it halted all sales of oil
to Japan as well. The United States tried to resolve the issues with Japan over these differences, but a
resolution could not be reached and war was inevitable (Borg). Why didn t the U.S. suspect Pearl
Harbor of being the place of attack? Since the United States halted all exports to Japan, Japan declared
war on the United States. Due to the lack of information, lack of technology, and talks of peace by
Japan, the United States had no idea where Japan was going to hit. In January 1941, reports were
received that Japan might attack Pearl Harbor but military officials ignored these reports. They
considered attacks on the Philippines and other European countries to be more likely, underestimating
Japan s ability to conceal preparations for such an operation. Due to the success of the cryptanalysis
machine called, Magic, American leaders started breaking Japanese military operational codes. The
codes that were deciphered showed Japan was likely to take some type of military action (Irive). At
that time, Japan had only a 12 month supply of petroleum to fuel its economy and war operations left.
So the U.S. anticipated Japan would act quickly! The only questions that could not be answered were
when and where (Woods). Pearl Harbor had been a major naval base since before 1898. In early

Latin American Revolution Research Paper
The Independence of Latin America was complex, but surprisingly rapid, achieved through a number
of characteristically different types of revolutions that liberated the Spanish and Portuguese colonies
from the oppressive rule of the Iberian powers. Much of the desire for independence, or at the very
least for social and political change, in Latin America was fueled by Enlightenment thought and
political upheaval across the Atlantic and it was informed by the French Revolution, Napoleon s rise
to power in Europe, as well as the successful Haitian Revolution, much closer to home. In Brazil,
Mexico, and Venezuela the roads to independence were markedly different; however, each revolution
was inspired by Enlightenment Philosophy s ideas of freedom ... Show more content on

When Napoleon s troops invaded Portugal, the king, John VI, fled with his family to Brazil. The
creoles of Brazil, while they wanted to maintain their social authority and privileges, felt culturally
different than the Portuguese and desired independence. When John VI eventually returned to
Portugal, he left his son Pedro in Brazil. Local elites convinced Pedro to claim Brazil as an
independent power, with him as their leader and he became Emperor Pedro I of an independent Brazil
by the end of 1822. In Mexico, the revolution and bid for independence was not nearly so easy. After
Hildago s rebellion another priest, and José María Morelos y Pavón lead another uprising that lasted
until 1815. A guerrilla war in Mexico persisted under the leadership of Vincente Guerrero. With the
reinstatement of the liberal Spanish Constitution of 1820 Mexican elites decided to join the side of the
creoles and call for independence from Spain. Guerrero and the creole officer, Agustín de Iturbide
joined forces with the Plan de Ayala and together achieved Mexican independence in 1821. Iturbide
was made Emperor of Mexico, but his conservative reign was short lived as his empire fell in 1823
when Mexico became a federal republic. Following Mexico s example Central America declared itself
a republic, eventually breaking up into Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Costa Rica.
In Venezuela, a group of creole revolutionaries, including Simón Bolivar, had seized power in Caracas
from 1810 1812. Royalists captured the rebel creole leader Francisco de Miranda and Bolívar fled to
Colombia returning with a rebel army in 1819 and seizing territory in New Granada. Bolívar sought
independence for all of South America and appealed to a common sense of American ness in people.

They help connect people with places and through this loyalty, a sense of civic pride born. In recent
years dozen new sports stadiums have been built through the country. With the heavy structural
barriers inherent in the development of competing professional sport leagues and in the increasing
mobility of our economy. Mobile nature of professional sport team doesn t seem to be ready reversal

To Kill a Mockingbird Compared with Jasper Jones
Introduction Prejudice refers to the judgements towards a person because of their race, social class,
age, disability or sexual orientation. (Cherry, What is Prejudice? ) Prejudice was, and still is, to a large
extent experienced by people all over the world. It is a theme that is presented in so many works of
literature in a plethora of different ways. One of the most prominent ways in which prejudice is
explored is through the use of characters that perhaps are a different nationality or have a different
orientation to the majority of the other characters in the works. Two texts, in which the theme is
presented in an admirable way , are To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, and Jasper Jones by Craig
Silvey. Through the use of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Not only through the use of Tom Robinson as a character and his unjust trial, but also through the use
of the Finches coloured housekeeper, Cal, and the prejudice against Boo Radley because of his past
crimes. Tom Robinson has done nothing wrong yet is still accused and even Atticus Finch, Tom s
lawyer, knows nothing can be done to defend a black man against two dishonest whites. The children s
naivety plays an important role in presenting the theme of prejudice in the book, especially the
narration and how Scout, Jem, and Dill did not truly understand what was happening at the time,
which creates an almost dramatic irony in the fact that the reader is able to comprehend more than the
characters created by Lee.
At the end of the novel much light is shed on the fact that one should not judge a book by its cover and
that no matter what race, or social standing a person has there is room for the opportunity to be good
or bad. This can be seen through Atticus Finch stating that the family could not stand one day without
their black housekeeper, despite the juxtaposing character of his sister s best efforts to get rid of her. It
can also be seen through the Ewell family. They are a white family that have money and a social
standing in the town. Bob Ewell is an evil man who drinks away the family s money. His character is
foreshadowed by his son, Burris, and the abhorrent

Oj Simpson Reflection
After watching O.J. Made in America, I gained a different perspective of O.J Simpson and the
understanding of how society was back in the early 50 s. When I had first heard of O.J Simpson it was
not about football or him being in movies, it was about how he had brutally murdered his wife at the
time and her lover. Along with hearing about how he had brutally murdered the two, it was known
how he was self centered, very egocentric and would try to talk his way out of everything which the
film had stated. In the beginning of the film it showed O.J Simpson in court, being asked if he was
first arrested at the age of 46. Then instantly moved forward to how his football career started. I feel
like the director did this to show how O.J was before the allegation of him being convicted of
manslaughter. High school he was known for football and eventually a college recruiter scouted him
from the University of South California. Furthering his fame with football he was known in college
for the run . The run was when USC was playing against UCLA. When USC was losing badly within
11 minutes O.J made a touch down making the win for USC. Finally From there the New York
Buffalo s coach recruited him where later on he had retired from the football fame to now being an
actor. Although the majority of the film in Part 1 was of O.J s football career it also showed how
heavy segregation, police brutality, and the civil rights movement were. The documenter stated how
significant segregation was

Quality Sunglasses for Kids
Wearing glasses can be the ultimate fashion accessory when you choose the right pair to suit you and
the kind of clothes you wear most. Children may not be as interested as adults are in the fashion aspect
of sunglasses. But because kids spend much more time outdoors than most adults one of the most
important factors when to choosing sunglasses is protection. Being assured that one s eyes are
protected from the sun s ultra violet rays is essential. These rays can cause damage to the eyes and are
linked to many different types of eye disease, so they should be avoided at all costs through the use of
high quality kids sunglasses.
What s the perfect Sunglass Lens Color
It s always better to consult an optician, but as long as your optician certifies that the lenses block 100
percent of the sun s UV rays. The level of UV protection sunglasses provide has nothing to do with the
color of the lenses, but polar optic sunglasses are now popular nowadays, because it actually provides
a filtering system for glare. Any light reflecting off of a flat surface, such as a lake, creates an intense
glare produced by horizontal light wave patterns. These horizontal waves are blocked by polarized
lenses that help reduce the glare and resulting eyestrain. Polar eyes fit ... Show more content on

Essay on Covered Bonds
With liquidly rationing, (credit crunch) does offering covered bonds hold the answer or does it just
offer banks the opportunity to increase their margin?. Discuss critically.
Introduction
In the modern day world, with technology and global markets expanding, the need for credit is a
constant issue for economies to monitor. Liquidity rationing has been most relevant since the GFC,
when the credit market essentially froze, sending financial markets in turmoil. Therefore finding ways
to increase liquidity at a time when markets are volatile requires instruments of low risk. Covered
bonds have recently gained momentum as a popular tool for banks to increase their liquidity whilst
taking on very limited risk.

Prior to the intensification of the financial crisis in October 2008, covered bonds were a key source of
funding for euro area banks. The market had grown to over €2.4 trillion by the end of 2008, compared
with about €1.5 trillion in 2003 (ECBC, 2009). The lack of credit risk transfer with covered bonds is
an important distinction with this asset class compared with, for example, asset backed securities
(ABS) and other securities that were subject to securitization. This may well explain the resilience of
the covered bond market at the initial stage of the crisis in August 2007. (Biswas, 2010) Investors
affinity for covered bonds can be explained by their relative safety compared with any non securitized
asset class. In relation to covered bonds, a pool of collateral backs the credit risk of the issuer, which is
usually of high quality. Despite this, however, the covered bond market was not totally immune to the
effects of the crisis. Up to the intensification of the crisis following the collapse of Lehman Brothers
in mid September 2008, it was clear that the covered bond market had outperformed other wholesale
funding instruments. The widening of spreads was much less substantial for covered bonds than other
ABS and unsecured debt. (Biswas, 2010) Graph 1 backs up this argument that the widening of spreads
was less significant for covered bonds as

The companies that efficiently solve their projects issues and portfolio concerns will differentiate
themselves from their competition. The projects that companies work to complete with the many
different project methodologies demonstrate where the business is now, and the portfolio of projects of
the organization demonstrate where the organization is headed. To effectively manage the tremendous
number of projects that leaders face today in their organizations, they look to methods and processes
that aid them in effectively managing a group of projects. The method used to help in this endeavor is

Portfolio board managers or project managers that have the responsibility of leading an organization to
their intended goals and objectives must perform an analysis of the current state or performance of the
organization, an analysis of the gaps between the current state and the intended state while making the
necessary adjustments and corrective actions (Morris Pinto, 2007).
Project Portfolio
According to Morris and Pinto (2007) a project portfolio is comprised of a group of projects that are
supervised and managed based on the sponsorship of a particular department within the company. The
different projects within a portfolio will compete for scarce resources such as labor, finances, and
time. At the very top of a project based organization is portfolio management, which contains all of
the projects within the organization. Those organizational projects are prioritized, based on strategic
global initiatives and business objectives. They are different from projects assigned to project
managers, as they must be aligned with strategic initiatives. Because projects support several business
objectives across many different lines of business within the organization, oftentimes these projects
are interrelated and are strategic.

Everyday Use And Cathedral Analysis
Sam Thomas 4/17/2018 Copeland The Beauty Within If you were to look upon a mall parking lot no
car, blade of grass, person or piece of clothing would be the same. In society today, those with
deformities or abnormalities will always be looked down by a few people for being indifferent when
they shouldn t. In Everyday Use and Cathedral there are characters with deformities who struggle to
be viewed as equals in all eyes. However, the role of a deformity in Cathedral is more significant
because of the way Carver uses irony and symbolism to illustrate the way society looks at those with
deformities and how an insight into Robert s struggles changes the narrator s perspective of Robert s
and his own life. Carver establishes his use of symbolism and irony initially when describing the tapes
that Robert and the wife would send each other. For example, he initially asked her to send him a tape
and tell him about her life which continues with many tapes over the years about aspects and struggles
of each other s lives (78). This is consequential because it shows how the tapes, only filled with stories
and feelings, transcended the deformity itself and allowed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

to physically look at his wife to be able to love and connect with her, all he needed was to be with her
because true love exists when people love each other for who they are, imperfections and all. Carver s
use of the narrator s statement immediately allows the reader to pick up that it is ironic because you

The Negative Effects Of Technology
The use of technology varies amongst different age groups, often used for productive means, but there
is also a negative side of technology usage. With the advancement of technology, technology is
considered as survival tools for humans. These generally make life easier and helps humans be extra
productive. Moreover, Adults harness the power of technology to solve complex problems. Usually,
this can only be done with the aid of a computer. Another arena of technology use is for school, both,
parents and teachers believe technology helps enhance learning. Although technology is meant to be
useful in different scenarios, it does not always mean it is healthy. For example, as suggested in a
study Students who use less technology, score higher on reading exam versus those who use
technology above the average (Bremmer, 2016). Society has evolved to misuse technology in many
unhealthy ways; these negative uses have many ramifications for individuals.
With the advancement of technology, communication is far more convenient for today s society,
especially with long distance relationships. People with family, friends, and loved ones who are miles
away now can video chat easily through apps, on their devices, such as FaceTime or Skype. For

The Effect Of Light Intensity And Light Wavelength On...
Abstract
The effects of light intensity and light wavelength on photosynthesis was observed in two different
experiments and closer study of different pigments in spinach was observed. For the experiment where
the effects of light was observed, it was found that a light intensity of 30 cm, wavelengths of blue and
red lights show the greatest photosynthetic activity. The different pigments present is spinach were
also observed and it was noted that though chlorophyll is the most abundant in plants, there are other
pigments present as well.
Introduction: Photosynthesis can be defined as a solar powered process that removes atmospheric
carbon dioxide and transforms it into oxygen and carbohydrates (Harris Haller 2014). Photosynthesis
can be considered to be the most important biochemical process on Earth because it helps plants to
grow its roots, leaves, and fruits, and plants serve as autotrophs which are crucial to the food chain on
earth. Several factors determine the process of photosynthesis. Light is one these factors and is the
main subject of this experiment. The intensity of light is a property of light that is important for
photosynthesis to occur. Brighter light causes more light to touch the surface of the plant which
increases the rate of photosynthesis (Speer 1997). This is why there is a tendency of higher rates of
photosynthesis in climates with a lot of sunlight than areas that primarily do not get as much sunlight.
Light wavelength is also a property of

Lab Report On The Mass Of Actual Aspirin ( Acetylsalicylic...
Abstract: This experiment utilizes skills of titration in order to find the percent mass of actual aspirin
(acetylsalicylic acid) in store bought aspirin. Two steps and two kinds of titrations are used. First,
approximately 0.1 M NaOH solution was standardized using titration with KHP. KHP was used
because it does not absorb moisture when it is stored, and it is soluble in water. The reaction that takes
place in this reaction is a 1:1 mole ratio reaction. The titration determines the volume of NaOH
solution needed to completely react with the known amount of KHP. This makes the calculation of
molarity of NaOH solution fairly easy. The average molarity calculated was 0.09897 M. The final part
of the experiment is a titration to indicate the amount of acetylsalicylic acid present in approximately
0.5 g of store bought aspirin. The volume of 0.09897 M NaOH solution indicated the moles of NaOH
that reacted with the aspirin. The reaction between NaOH and acetylsalicylic acid is a 1:1 mole ratio
reaction. The calculated mass of acetylsalicylic acid was 0.3963g. This was divided by the initial
amount of aspirin measured (0.4976g), and multiplied by 100 to give the percent mass. This value is
79.66%. This particular experiment may not be very accurate. Specifically, only two standardization
trials were counted. This may cause a less accurate measurement of NaOH solution molarity,
ultimately leading to an inaccurate percent mass of acetylsalicylic acid.

What Is The History Of Betty Friedan And The Feminist...
Throughout history, many women have engaged in playing a bigger role in the society. They have
strived for expansion of their power in the nation. The greatest battle for them was in the 1960s. There
were very limited things they could do. A woman at this time period was expected to get married by
the age of 20 and dedicate the rest of her life to her husband and homemaking. She was expected a lot
only to take care of her kids and husband. They had no legal right to her husband earning or property
but the husband had legal rights to his wife properties. They were never welcomed to professional jobs
like doctor, lawyer, and engineer. Even if they did get a job they were discriminated and paid really
low wages. They were never given the opportunities to achieve jobs that would pay them higher
because they thought they would be pregnant and quit the jobs and they do not have a family that
needs financial support, unlike males. All of these caused the feminist movement where they fought
for more freedom for girls and less restriction put into them.
Betty Friedan who was born in February 4,1921in Peoria Illinois. She was an American writer,
Activist, and feminist. In 1966, she was co founded and elected as the first president of the National

It converts the user queries into series of low level instructions. The query processor has the following
components,
i. DDL interpreter:
It interprets DDL statements and records definitions in the data dictionary. ii. DML compiler:
It translates DML statements in the query language into an evaluation plan consisting of low level
instructions. iii. Query evaluation engine:
It executes low level instructions (query evaluation plan).
Data
Data is the most important component of the DBMS. The main purpose of DBMS is to process the
data in efficient and convenient way for the users. In DBMS, databases are defined, constructed,
modified , inserted and accessed from the database. There are two types of data in the DBMS. They
are
i. Meta data:
It is the data about data or description about data stored in the database. Data definition

Celebrities have a lot of power and as a result, they can have significant selling power as seen in the
commercials. This is because people are going to more likely to use the product associated with the

Entertainment (WWE) wrestler advertised for a brand of garbage bags known as Hefty Ultra Strong

strong, durable, and can withstand a lot of weight, like John Cena. In the commercial, John Cena wore
a tight shirt showing off his big muscles and endorsing Hefty garbage bags as the superior, stronger

The Changing Nature of Aboriginal and Non-aboriginal...
The Changing Nature of Aboriginal and Non aboriginal Relations in Australia from 1946 2000
Since the arrival of Europeans the Aboriginal population has suffered in terms of status, wealth, health
and sense of identity. Although there have been steps towards reconciliation there is still a long way to
go until Indigenous Australians enjoy the same status as non indigenous Australians. A referendum
was made in 1967, it was a hallmark in Aboriginal history. It was the beginning of the righting of the
wrongs that had been committed against the Australian indigenous population since the arrival of
white settlers. The referendum was the first time that Aboriginal people were fully acknowledged as ...

The Menzies government in 1965 put forward a bill that would repeal section 127 of the constitution
but would leave section 51 unchanged. Menzies reasoned that The words are a protection against
discrimination by the Commonwealth parliament in respect of Aborigines (John Gardiner Garden
1997). Both Houses passed the proposed bill but it lapsed as no further action was taken.
A new government took office and in 1967 the new Prime Minister, Harold Holt, announced that his
government intended to reintroduce the 1965 bill but with new amendments. He intended to also
include section 51 as well as section 127. As leader of the opposition, Gough Whitlam supported the
bill, as it would allow the Federal government, for the first time, to assist our indigenous population.
Mr. Holt announced on March 14th 1967 that a referendum would be held after the proposed act
passed through both houses. Within the referendum another question would be asked, the people
would be asked if alterations should be made to numbers in the Senate and the House of
Representatives. The bill was passed and the referendum date was set for 27th of May 1967
On May 27th 1967, 5801584 people went to the polls to vote in the referendum. In relation to

Notebook is a book that I think is worth the read if you are captivated by romantic novels, but like
everything, it has its flaws. I would rate this book four swan couples out of five because the main
problem is the romantic tone of the novel was both its greatest merit and biggest ruination. The
lengthy paragraphs indulged with poetry and imagery ultimately became overwritten the longer I read
it. It was filled with cliches, and lacked unpredictability. Despite this, it shows the true meaning of
soulmates. It shows the ways you can love people differently. Allie loved Lon, but you can only have

potential and the capabilities of Nypro Inc as its answer of technology.
One of the main issues that Nypro faces is how to compete in the future. Nypro has created a system
where it is able to capitalize on its current market through its various innovation and alliances with
their current customers. Nypro s competitors started being competitive by able to duplicate their
processes .Nypro should not only focus on quality and innovation but should keep a check on demand

Robert Rodriguez s Marketing New Inventions
Judlin Pierre WSIII 023 27 Professor Coyle 17 September 2014 Illustration Essay Great Inventions
Robert Rodriguez s Marketing new inventions is an essay about how to market inventions smartly and
safely. Rodriguez shows examples of inventions that made it in the market and how they came about.
Robert Rodriguez mentions facts about Tim Walsh, who gave examples of how some products are
knocked off the market. Walsh states, The problem is that success often prompts others to want in on
what you are doing (pg.549). Walsh s prime example is the hula hoop. This product was trademarked
in 1958 by Wham O, but was stolen and Wham O is now making 25% of the market. Rodriguez gave
examples of some of the best products but the inventions in the essay were not the most useful
inventions. In fact, pay phones and house phones had a good hold on people but when cell phones
came about, it was all over. Most people may say the motor vehicle is the best invention ever, but cell
phones have that beat. Imagine a world without the technology we use today; things would be hard
and cell phones were the solution. Cell phones help with communicating, determining location and
traveling, and keeping memories alive via picture and videos.
To begin, cell phones help with communication. They are a help for out of reach times and when in
need to talk to someone. Cell phones help you communicate with family and friends to keep them
informed of our daily status. Texting became a huge part of

No object can spontaneously attain motion unless a force acts upon it; likewise, no moving object can
stop or change velocity unless a force acts upon it.
Sir Isaac Newton s contribution to Physics is undisputable. The applications of Newton s observations
are visible in all moving machines, from bicycles and cars, to rockets and the space shuttle. Even after
centuries of testing, his laws still hold true. Newton s Laws of motion have influenced countless
renowned physicists including the great Albert Einstein, who later expanded on them. By increasing
our understanding of energy and the laws governing it, Newton s laws continue to influence physicists
today, and will continue to for centuries to come. No other Physicist in history can claim to have had
the impact on the world that Newton has. Sir Isaac Newton is truly the champion of motion.

Article: It s no secret; sugar, when consumed in excess leads you down the road to obesity and diabetes. Still, sugar loaded foods and beverages have become a way of life for many Americans. So much so, that the average person consumes about 20 teaspoons of sugar a day! That s about 14 teaspoons or 60 grams more than is recommended for a healthy diet. All that sugar not only makes you fat, but now experts agree it may also lead to Alzheimer s. Here s what happens to your brain ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This figure is thought to rise to over 125 million by 2050. This amounts to hundreds of billions of dollars spent on medical and social care because of the cognitive effects of the disease. Dr. Omar Kassaar, also from the University of Bath, further added that excess sugar is well known to be bad for us when it comes to diabetes and obesity, but this potential link with Alzheimer s disease is yet another reason that we should be controlling our sugar intake in our diets. Why we crave the white stuff Your brain has built in evolutionary mechanisms that drive your cravings. Many of these mechanisms are meant for survival, one of the which is eating. And of course, the release of hormones is also involved according to Tufts. When you eat something sweet and delicious, the good feeling of the experience is determined in part by hormone receptors. Over time, these receptors become less sensitive to the hormones produced when we enjoy a particular food like chocolate cake. So, you ll need to consume more and more chocolate cake to have the same pleasant experience. We re addicted and we may not know it! But it s not just the obvious treats like sugary soda, candy, cookies and cakes that turn us into sugar addicts. Today s modern diet is so loaded with hidden sugars and sweeteners that we ... This does not necessarily mean ensuring equality in education outcomes for all people because individual factors such as competency and ability varies among people. Students from poor families are more likely to attend schools with a worse infrastructure, less qualified teachers, less ambitious peers, and outmoded practices. Because of this, they are more likely to have lower learning outcomes. Therefore, reducing educational inequality will have positive effects on developmental outcomes. Ensuring equality in education delivery will also reduce discontent in countries and cities (Inequality in education: The challenge of Measurement). Because of this, urgent solutions are needed to address educational inequality. Duncan and Murnane argue that economic and educational inequality greatly affects children s educational and developmental outcomes in Restoring Opportunity: The crisis of inequality and the challenge for American education. Duncan and Murnane point out that since the 1970s, there has been a shift in technology and globalization. This makes receiving a K 12 education more important for life skills than it has been in the past. Since the 1970 s, globalization and computerization have decreased blue collar jobs and enhanced the job market. • 4. The Importance Of Freedom In American Society One of the foundations of American society is the belief that freedom reigns above all else. However, this does not seem to be the case in recent years. Due to early opposition to organization, the Constitution in the United States outlines rights to freedom unprecedented in other areas around the globe. Based originally in freedom of religion, American freedom exists in all arenas. For example, freedom of speech provides all people with the ability to say anything on their mind. In some situations, however, freedom does not offer the sense of safety many individuals desire. Recently there have been several instances in the American cultural sphere that seem to lean the culture towards embracing safety, even though such practices may compromise freedom itself. Instances of the sort include the desire for protection from racism and violence based on race, availability of safe spaces, as well as opposition to their establishment, isolationist policies within political parties, social media influences and targeted advertising, as well as fear from large uncertainties like gun abuse and terrorism. Freedom from ideas discourages freedom of ideas, but offers an illusion of safety to the individual. In order for proteins to function properly and provide these functions in the body, deoxyribonucleic acid is (DNA) required. DNA provides ribonucleic acid (RNA) that is translated into a certain protein. These concepts lay the foundation for labs 5 through 7. In lab 5, a series of steps were taken that allowed us to obtain purified genomic DNA. Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) was utilized in order to acquire the specific gene that encodes for the protein adhP. PCR works by using different temperatures and properties of DNA replication (i.e. DNA polymerase) in order to amplify the gene needed. To see if our PCR ran at the end of lab 5 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... DNA is a negative molecule so it will move towards our anode (positive end) as the small fragments will move faster and the large ones slower. With a DNA ladder, we could compare the size of the gene we needed to the marker with a known size. TOPO cloning along with transformation were then carried out. With help from DNA topoisomerase, TOPO cloning uses our gene from the PCR reaction and places it within our vector (pET101/D TOPO) via directional cloning. Directional cloning allows us to control the direction of our insertion. During this procedure, we had to be careful not to mix too thoroughly in order to keep the overhangs necessary intact. Also a master mix containing salt allowed for a higher efficiency due to the fact that the salt prevents the topoisomerase from rebinding thus potentially nicking the DNA post ligation. Heat shock was then used in order to ensure that our plasmids were placed within the bacterial cells. The cells containing this plasmid could then be placed on an LB plate with S.O.C. medium containing ampicillin. The S.O.C. medium contains nutrients that allowed our transformed cells to survive and thrive. Ampicillin kills certain bacterial cells that do not contain a resistance towards it. Lets say we could distinguish between them by the knowledge that one is stronger than the other. At a time of change, much focus is placed upon developing strategy and not enough on the implementation and management side. Just one manifestation of this would be middle managers withholding information they are given to disseminate because they wish to retain their knowledgeable image; defeating the point of a middle manager. Michael E Raynor (2007) in his book entitled The Strategy Paradox presents the idea that a successful strategy requires the full commitment of the organisation, which leads to unsuccessful performance overall; due to over commitment. Flood and Dresher s (1950) Prisoners Dilemma, applied to the world of business, will also conclude that non competition is the most effective path in the long run. Both imply that strong competition efforts eventually lead to failure that mediocrity is the best route to follow as companies have a silent agreement to operate in a state of equilibrium. However, in the case of HMV Group, its operating industry is in decline; therefore failure is the only eventuality of a failure to compete. ContextAs identified above, much of the literature on the subject of managing strategic change has an element of paradox attached to it. The logical reason for this is that different methods depend on the circumstances the organisation is faced with. Here, men encounter a number of obstacles that are so contrary to their religious beliefs, but they must confront them to achieve their desire for children. In Mexico, the revolution and bid for independence was not nearly so easy. After Hildago s rebellion another priest, and José María Morelos y Pavón lead another uprising that lasted until 1815. The children s naivety plays an important role in presenting the theme of prejudice in the book, especially the narration and how Scout, Jem, and Dill did not truly understand what was happening at the time, which creates an almost dramatic irony in the fact that the reader is able to comprehend more than the characters created by Lee. At the end of the novel much light is shed on the fact that one should not judge a book by its cover and that no matter what race, or social standing a person has there is room for the opportunity to be good or bad. When I had first heard of O.J Simpson it was not about football or him being in movies, it was about how he had brutally murdered his wife at the time and her lover. Along with hearing about how he had brutally murdered the two, it was known how he was self centered, very egocentric and would try to talk his way out of everything which the film had stated. In the beginning of the film it showed O.J Simpson in court, being asked if he was first arrested at the age of 46. Then instantly moved forward to how his football career started. I feel like the director did this to show how O.J was before the allegation of him being convicted of manslaughter. Liquidity rationing has been most relevant since the GFC, when the credit market essentially froze, sending financial markets in turmoil. The market had grown to over €2.4 trillion by the end of 2008, compared with about €1.5 trillion in 2003 (ECBC, 2009). The lack of credit risk transfer with covered bonds is an important distinction with this asset class compared with, for example, asset backed securities (ABS) and other securities that were subject to securitization. This may well explain the resilience of the covered bond market at the initial stage of the crisis in August 2007. (Biswas, 2010) Investors affinity for covered bonds can be explained by their relative safety compared with any non securitized asset class. In relation to covered bonds, a pool of collateral backs the credit risk of the issuer, which is usually of high quality. Despite this, however, the covered bond market was not totally immune to the effects of the crisis. Up to the intensification of the crisis following the collapse of Lehman Brothers in mid September 2008, it was clear that the covered bond market had outperformed other wholesale funding instruments. The widening of spreads was much less substantial for covered bonds than other ABS and unsecured debt. In Everyday Use and Cathedral there are characters with deformities who struggle to be viewed as equals in all eyes. However, the role of a deformity in Cathedral is more significant because of the way Carver uses irony and symbolism to illustrate the way society looks at those with deformities and how an insight into Robert s struggles changes the narrator s perspective of Robert s and his own life. Carver establishes his use of symbolism and irony initially when describing the tapes that Robert and the wife would send each other. For example, he initially asked her to send him a tape and tell him about her life which continues with many tapes over the years about aspects and struggles of each other s lives (78). Abstract The effects of light intensity and light wavelength on photosynthesis was observed in two different experiments and closer study of different pigments in spinach was observed. For the experiment where the effects of light was observed, it was found that a light intensity of 30 cm, wavelengths of blue and red lights show the greatest photosynthetic activity. The different pigments present is spinach were also observed and it was noted that though chlorophyll is the most abundant in plants, there are other pigments present as well. Introduction: Photosynthesis can be defined as a solar powered process that removes atmospheric carbon dioxide and transforms it into oxygen and carbohydrates (Harris Haller 2014). Photosynthesis can be considered to be the most important biochemical process on Earth because it helps plants to grow its roots, leaves, and fruits, and plants serve as autotrophs which are crucial to the food chain on earth. Several factors determine the process of photosynthesis. Light is one these factors and is the main subject of this experiment. The intensity of light is a property of light that is important for photosynthesis to occur. Brighter light causes more light to touch the surface of the plant which increases the rate of photosynthesis (Speer 1997). This is why there is a tendency of higher rates of photosynthesis in climates with a lot of sunlight than areas that primarily do not get as much sunlight. Light wavelength is also a property of ... • 37. Lab Report On The Mass Of Actual Aspirin ( Acetylsalicylic... Abstract: This experiment utilizes skills of titration in order to find the percent mass of actual aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid) in store bought aspirin. Two steps and two kinds of titrations are used. First, approximately 0.1 M NaOH solution was standardized using titration with KHP. KHP was used because it does not absorb moisture when it is stored, and it is soluble in water. The reaction that takes place in this reaction is a 1:1 mole ratio reaction. The titration determines the volume of NaOH solution needed to completely react with the known amount of KHP. This makes the calculation of molarity of NaOH solution fairly easy. The average molarity calculated was 0.09897 M. The final part of the experiment is a titration to indicate the amount of acetylsalicylic acid present in approximately 0.5 g of store bought aspirin. The volume of 0.09897 M NaOH solution indicated the moles of NaOH that reacted with the aspirin. The reaction between NaOH and acetylsalicylic acid is a 1:1 mole ratio reaction. The calculated mass of acetylsalicylic acid was 0.3963g. This was divided by the initial amount of aspirin measured (0.4976g), and multiplied by 100 to give the percent mass. This value is 79.66%. This particular experiment may not be very accurate. Specifically, only two standardization trials were counted. This may cause a less accurate measurement of NaOH solution molarity, ultimately leading to an inaccurate percent mass of acetylsalicylic acid. Introduction ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
