The Effects Of Tef On The Country Of The World Ethiopia
tef Tef (Eragrostistef) has been a significant crop in only one country in the world Ethiopia.
However, currently becomes popular in the world. In Ethiopia its production exceeds that of
most other cereals. Each year, Ethiopian farmers plant almost 1.4 million hectares of tefand they
produce 0.9 million tons of grain or about a quarter of the country s total cereals. The grain is
especially popular in the western provinces, where people prefer it to all other cereals and eat it
once or twice (occasionally three times) every day. In that area, tef contributes about two thirds of
the protein to a typical diet Unlike other orphan crops, tef is not in decline. Indeed, farmers have
steadily increased their plantings in recent years. The area... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Robert Niccol s Time Is A Film Directed By Andrew Niccol...
In Time Andrew Niccol 1.11 internal.
In Time is a film directed by Andrew Niccol. The film uses a range of film techniques to show the
inequality across time zones. We see Will striving to achieve equality among society. We see how
Will experiences near death and the struggles of trying to achieve his goal. During the scene we see
Will at the Weis party, the minute men come to question him about the wealththat Will has just
received. During the scene, we see inequality across the zones of Dayton and New Greenwich.
The director uses a range of camera techniques to show Will getting interrogated to create
suspense and a clear power struggle. We see a long shot of Will Salas when he is getting
questioned by the timekeeper Raymond Leon. Will is now suddenly trapped and is forced to be
seated into a substantial plush chair. The setting is green painted room with gold incorporated
into the decor. The long shot then transitions into a high angle shot. Through the shot, we can see
guards positioned on either side of Will. This emphasizes that Will has been ambushed and is
overpowered and that they are watching every move that Will makes. We also learn within the
scene that Will is captured and cannot escape the timekeeper as well as the guards. This contrasts
back to Dayton where the bars on Will s apartment windows symbolised that he was trapped and
was living in a controlled area. We learn that Will has ambition to make to make the system of time
vanish and to become

The Godfather Conflict
This quote highlights the basis half of the plot and conflicts of the The Godfather, and half of
what led to it becoming the American classic it is. From 1972, this inspirational film explores a
highly romanticized version of the Italian mafioso culture. With most of the plot being split into
either family, business, or the conflicts when they overlap. this drama has to dig deep to hook
onto emotions that we can relate to. Based on Mario Puzo s novel, directed by Francis Ford Coppola
, and acted by both experts and amateurs alike, The Godfatherwas produced masterfully. While we
may not be able to identify with the overall business side of the story, we are able to do so with
the half closer to home. The exceptional usage of the three hours allows this film to not seem
rushed while having us hang onto every word. Personally, the part of the film that really sold this
as one of my top movies was the dual family/business nature of the most of the plot as well as how
Michael compared to Vito in being the Godfather.. The striking juxtaposition induces at least a few
questions about how a character may have handled an... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Corleones steadily became more violent over the course of The Godfather, but this can be
attributed to the fact that the threat against their family is increasing. On the other hand, the
moment Vito is out of the picture, Michael offers to murder the family s enemies for revenge.
Even when Sonny is brutally peppered by bullets from a dozen Barzini buttonmen, Vito offers a
ceasefire opportunity. Michael simply had them all assassinated because it would be easier and
more efficient overall. We see here that the father son morality split is why this movie is such an
inspiration and a model for power struggles in general. The independent leadership styles of the
latest Godfather make it very clear that like father, like son can be staggeringly wrong at

Experimental Research Critique Analysis of a Research Study Automaticity of Social Behavior:
Direct Effects of Trait Construct and Stereotype Activation on Action Abstract Former research is
an explicit indicator of how one s behavior can be a product of the situation that person is present
in. Experiment one of Automaticity of Social Behaviour: Direct Effects of Trait Construct and
Stereotype Activation on Action that trait concepts and stereotypes by John A. Bargh, Mark Chen,
and Lara Burrows of New York University provides an experiment analyzing that behaviour
through an experiment which will form the basis of critique in this paper. Background of the
experiment For decades social psychologists have scrutinized the impact of priming on an
individual s behaviour. Priming indicates to the trigger of certain traits by controlling
environmental factors. Recent studies have surfaced the finding that a desired behaviour can be
brought about in an individual by the mere presence of relevant situational factors .The extent to
which a person has control over his or her emotions is still under a lot of scrutiny. However it is
proven through numerous studies carried out by many researchers that many of the behaviour
brought about by an individual are voluntary in nature. This experiment is carried out to investigate
this very concept of psychology. Introduction It is proposed that one s behaviour is an involuntary
act that is directly linked to the

The Type of Liquid on Growth of Jelly Marble
The reason for the experiment is to see which liquid makes the Jelly Marble grow the most. Jelly
Marbles are clear spheres made from an superabsorbent polymer and about 99% water. This
makes it so that it absorbs water very quickly. If the jelly marbles are soaked in 70% rubbing
alcohol then the growth will decrease.

1.12 milliliters. The volumes for trial 1, 0.17 milliliters, and for trial 2, 0.03 milliliters, has a big
difference. The density for the Jelly Marbles that soaked in water was approximately 1.4 milliliters.
Trail 1 for the Jelly Marbles soaked in food coloring also had a density of 1.4 milliliters but, trial 2

Maslow vs. Mcgregor
Backgrounds
Douglas McGregor was a management professor at the MIT Sloan School of Management. He
introduced a new motivational theory in his book The Human Side of Enterprise , stating that all
workers were divided into two groups: Theory X and Theory Y. Theory X workers were lazy,
irrational and unreliable, and were only motivated by money and threatened by punishment. Theory
Y workers were able to seek and accept responsibilities and fulfil any goals given.
The Human Side of Enterprise, written my McGregor in 1960, was voted the fourth most influential
management book of the 20th century by the Fellows of the Academy of Management. The ideas
and theories shown in the book have remained relevant and are taught in Universities across ...

Social needs acquired by such employees include love, acceptance and belonging. They must
feel accepted and a sense of worthiness before they can work up to fulfilling other, more difficult
needs. The esteem level on Maslow s Hierarchy of Needs is the need for appreciation and
respect. After the other levels of needs have been fulfilled, the esteem needs begin to play a
prominent role in motivating behaviour. Theory Y employees will be motivated to gain respect in
their organisation by achieving company objectives and by showing management their skills and
abilities. The top need desired by such employees is self actualisation. Maslow himself said;
What a man can be, he must be
What he meant by this is that people must achieve their full potential as human beings and that
nothing else is worth more that becoming the best you can be. Theory Y employees spend their
working lives striving for self actualisation, which is the ultimate source of motivation. It stimulates
the desire for more once experienced.
Contrasts
Although Maslow and McGregor are thinking alike, as I mentioned earlier, The Human Side of
Enterprise makes no concrete references to Maslow s theories. He doesn t seem to recognise the
condition of lower level needs to be met for people to aspire to those of higher level. McGregor
simply separates workers into different groups

Beethoven Was A German Composer ( 1770-1827 )
Introduction Beethoven was a German composer (1770 1827). His early achievements, as
composer and performer, show him to be extending the Viennese Classical tradition that he had
inherited from Mozart and Haydn (Kerman). The time period between 1801 to 1802, Beethoven
had begun to realize that he was gradually becoming deaf. The immediate results of this
devastating discover was withdrawal from his glittering social life: I find it impossible to say to
people, I am deaf, he wrote (Taruskin). As a result, he began to compose in an increasingly
individual style, and at the end of his life he wrote his most sublime and profound works (Kerman).
His major works include 9 symphonies, 11 overtures, 1 violin concerto, 16 string quartets, 9... Show

By the age of twelve, after establishing a local reputation as a piano prodigy, he was appointed
assistant to the Electoral court organist (Taruskin). At eighteen, Beethoven took over some of his
father s duties as singer and instrumentalist (Taruskin). When he was nineteen, Beethoven wrote two
cantatas the first cantata on the death of the emperor Joseph II and the coronation of Leopold II,
Joseph s successor (Taruskin). These cantatas were shown to Joseph Haydn (1732 1809), who was
passing from Bonn en route to England in 1790, and received his approval.
As a result, in 1792, the Elector arranged for Beethoven to study with Haydn in Vienna, which
marked his decade in Vienna (Taruskin). His training with Haydn was short lived, as Haydn was
summoned back to England in 1794. Beethoven then studied counterpoint with Johann Georg
Albrechtsberger for a year and Italian poetry with Antonio Salieri (Burkholder). During Haydn s
absence, Beethoven began to make a name for himself as a virtuoso piano performer and
improviser at the piano. He performed in public concerts and gave piano lessons to well to do
students. He also became the darling of the aristocratic salon set (Taruskin).
During his first decade in Vienna, Beethoven wrote a number of piano works, which included
sonatas, variations and shorter works for piano (Burkholder). Since Beethoven was a piano player
himself, his early works consisted more of

Role Of Merit In Buddhism
This week s readings are focused on how Buddhist monasteries in China and India play an
important role in producing merit. Both Lopez and Gethin explain the differences each region
played in producing merit through devotional practices. Lopez explains in chapter 27, how
monasteries in China implemented acts of merit into their daily practice. In addition Gethin
illustrates how monks in India lived their lives practicing merit. Even though Buddhist monasteries
play a significant role in producing meritorious acts, the lay community is significant. All four
assemblies of monks, nuns, male lay followers and female lay followers played a role in producing
merit. Merit plays a significant role in the Buddhist monasteries. Merit is not signally

Essay On Rattus Norvegicus
The underlying theme between all three studies is microevolution, over time the Rattus Norvegicus
were able to adapt to type of the environment they were reared in by adjusting their metabolism.
Although they produced many progeny, the ones with the greatest fitness, and had produced the
most young were the ones with the advantageous trait. They would either have a higher metabolism
during cold climates or a low metabolism in a warm climate. There was a distinct inverse
relationship between the thermal environment and metabolic rates found in these rats. The results
from the first study indicated that rats were capable of responding to the energetic demands of their
thermal environment with metabolic compensations. Throughout development, warm housed...

The results showed that rats raised in cooler temperatures developed a greater body and coat mass
that those of warm reared mats. This significant difference indicates that the environment plays an
important role in the hair coat insulation. The rats reared in the cooler temperature had maintained
a relatively heavier hair coat with darker fur while those that were raised in the warmer
temperatures had relatively lighter hair in lighter color. The heavier hair coat plays a greater role
in the maintenance of body temperatures of the Rattus Norvegicus due to high surface to volume
ratio, which decreases with size and age. This notion supports the conclusions of the previous study
where rats that were reared in the colder temperatures were smaller. It was essential for them to be
smaller so that they their longer hair would have a higher surface to volume ratio. The differences
found in the development of the coat mass relative to body mass as a result of thermal environment
suggest that the Rattus Norvegicus adjust their hair coat insulation at the juvenile age of day 22 to
reduce the energetic costs of thermoregulation in their housing

Analysis Of Leonard Bernstein s West Side Story
Leonard Bernstein worked with Arthur Laurents, Jerome Robbins, and Stephen Sondheim to
produce the 1957 Broadway musical West Side Story, a Romeo and Juliet like love story between
Polish American Tony and Puerto Rican Maria in New York s West Side (Peyser 261; Fishko).
Bernstein composed the music for the production. Each artist was renowned and therefore
understood that their unique, artistic approaches were successful, essentially ensuring that there
would be disagreements in the creation of the musical. For instance, Laurents, the musical s author,
reveals that Bernstein seemed to almost dominate the development of the storyline, but Laurents
was adamant that he would not write a Bernstein opera (Peyser 263). Moreover, Bernstein felt...

Urban gangs were increasingly relevant during the 1950s, particularly in 1955, when gang warfare
in cities frequently made newspaper headlines (Gutmann). The relevance of the musical s plot to
its time period reveals that one of the reasons behind West Side Story s success is simple: the
musical, to a certain extent, was relatable to the majority of its audience s life.
Bernstein became the first American born director of a major American orchestrathe New York
Philharmonic in 1958 (Peyser 298). This historical event shook the musical world since Bernstein
was never like the other prominent musicians of his time. Classical music was always seen as a
form of high culture. That Bernstein was a homosexual, middle class Jewish American
characteristics that were not well received in the musical field made it difficult for him to be
appointed to any prestigious musical position. These characteristics acted as an obstacle to his
mentor Koussevitzky s interest in Bernstein inheriting his position as conductor of the Boston
Symphony. In addition to Bernstein s inherent traits, Bernstein s involvement with the show
business and popular music, like jazz, did not appeal to the Boston Symphony s trustees since
Bernstein did not seem like a serious classical artist. American composer Morton Gould later
revealed that one of the trustees hoped On the Town [the musical composed by Bernstein] would
fail because then Bernstein might

Near Death Experiences Research Draft I looked up and I saw this light; it wasn t a normal light,
it was different. It was luminescent. And it grew. I kept looking at it like, What is that? Then it
grew large and I went into it (Sunfellow, David). Near deathexperiences and the knowledge of near
death experiences have become more common in today s society. Countless books have recently
been written on them such as Heaven is for Real, Near Death Experiences of Suicide Survivors,
Proof of Heaven, and 90 minutes in Heaven, but not everyone believes in these experiences.
Some atheists, scientists and doctors have all tried to debunk the theory, but are they
nonbelievers or disbelievers? A non believer is one who does not have faith or believe, a dis
believer refuses to believe. Many people have stated that they have had near death experiences
and of course with that comes the naysayers. The point is to look beyond scientific belief and to
look at the proof we have from doctors records or for some, their own experiences. There are still
many skeptics about NDEs but with countless records and so much proof, there draws a thin line
between real and make believe. In order to prove that these experiences are true to the non
believers we need to not only gather records but also scientific proof of these phenomenons. First,
Religion is a strong opponent with near death experiences. The Bible, Koran and the Tibetan

In the acclaimed 2001 film, Legally Blonde, the main character, Elle Woods, is a fantastic
feminine icon for women. The film represents the struggle females face to prove their abilities.
Remarkably, Elle never succumbs to those who adamantly see her as being foolish and not good

girl girlfriend he gets to hook up with in undergraduate school, and she is not what he refers to
as the Jackie Kennedy he would marry if he wants to be taken seriously as a politician. Warner s
rationale for proposing to Vivian is the same rationale for why he broke up with Elle. He just
wanted to have the right wife for his political image. Elles mentality completely changes when
she is having a conversation with Warner about school. He disdains her by calling her not smart
enough to qualify for one of the selective internship spots. Elle points out they both got in

From then forward, she no longer has a desire to get back with Warner, and begins to fully applies

Colonial Women In Colonial America
Colonial women in America suffered considerable oppression by society. Life in colonial America
was difficult. Women had to be resilient, brave, hardworking and above all else, subservient to her

religions around it. The movement initially was thought of as morally incorrect, and an act of
criminalization. However, as time went on and the gay rights movement continued to voice their
opinion to others, attitudes and views began to change and breakthroughs in their mission began to
be noticed. In the 21st century much of the Western culture has accepted the inclusion of gays,
lesbians, bisexuals, etc in to its culture and accepts them for who they are. Attitude and social
interactions continue to approve positively as more people become informed on this topic. As a

Impact of Aviation on the Global Atmopherer.Dissertation...
The air travel accounts for almost 11% of Europe s GDP and 24 million jobs. Air travel is the
most popular mode of travel for both UK residents travelling abroad and for overseas residents
visiting the UK. In 2005, UK residents made a record 53.6 million visits by air, representing
almost four fifths of all visits abroad (Friends of The Earth, 2006). The aviation industry currently
faces a lot of impediments due to growing impacts of climate change, local air quality, surface
access conjunction and noise.
This report will elucidate the impact of aviation on global warming and how it needs to blow the
trumpet even louder to highlight the advances it has made to combat against climate change.

As a result of incomplete combustion of fuels, additional by products such as carbon monoxide
(CO), unburned hydrocarbons (HC), and particulate matter (PM) are also formed. Many of these
emissions have health and climate impacts on both a local and global level. (Jamin et al, 2004)
Globally the environmental impact of aircraft largely results from two major sources, the
emissions of greenhouse gases (mainly CO2, HC, NO2) and the creation of high altitude water
vapor resulting in the formation of contrails. Contrails are created in the wake of an aircraft as
the warm, moist engine exhaust gas expands and mixes with colder and drier outside air. Water
droplets can be formed and these droplets rapidly freeze to form ice crystals. With enough water
vapor, the amount of condensation to ice is faster than that of evaporation, and the ice crystals will
grow to form visible contrails (see Schumann (1996) for a review). Contrails affect the climate by
reducing solar heating during the day and radiation of heat during the night by increasing the extent
to which it diffusely reflects light, therefore reducing the range between day and night temperatures.
Due to the huge projected future growth rates aviation is expected to produce, the implementation
of global or at least internationally coordinated

What it Takes for a Site to be Inscribe on the UNESCO...
The process required for a site to be inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List is long and
complicated. It has four main steps, each of which are a process in themselves: placement on a
tentative list, submission of a nomination file, evaluation by an Advisory Body, and a final decision
by the World Heritage Committee. The entire process usually takes about a year and a half, but can
vary depending of the time taken for each step (World Heritage Ireland, 2010). In order to submit
sites to the World Heritage List, a country must first sign the World Heritage Convention, thereby
committing to protecting their natural and culture heritage. After that, the State Party, in Ireland s

The State Party should include both a management history of and a history of the culture
surrounding the site in order to help establish its authenticity, integrity, and how it fits the selection
criteria. The definitions of authenticity and integrity that UNESCO uses are in the Nara Document
on Authenticity (World Heritage Ireland, 2010). The State Party can demonstrate the authenticity
and integrity by listing and defending any and all works completed on the site, whether for
conservation, restoration, or adaptation (World Heritage Ireland, 2010). This history of works is
important, because if a site has been reconstructed so many times that barely an of the original
survives, the site may no longer have authenticity. The history of the site itself and the surrounding
culture is also important, because it helps to demonstrate the Outstanding Universal Value (OUV)
of the site, as well as how it might fit the criteria as a unique or exceptional example of cultural
traditions, civilizations living or dead, or any of the other ten criteria. The nomination file also has
to contain a management plan to insure the OUV, authenticity, and integrity of the site are
maintained for future generations. The management plan can be one of the most difficult aspects of
the nomination file, because it requires so much cooperation between all of the owners of the site,

What Is The Theme Of The Weep Fig
This essay is an analysis of The Weeping fig written by Judith Wright in 1972 and was published in
A Look Down Under by futurum and edited by Dunn Thorborg in 1985.
The story revolves around the Australian outback and Mr. Condon s quest for something unknown.
The story of The Weeping Fig is about Mr. Condon, who finds a notebook, between his deceased
father s things. The notebook describes the life of Mr. Condon s great grandfather Stephen Condon
s life in the outback. Mr. Condon decides to visit the farm, written about in the notebook. Here he
ends up meeting Mrs. Hasting.
Mrs. Hasting is the owner of the cattle farm together with her husband, and she isn t described as
the most pleasant person, actually far from. This come to show, when Mr. Condon tries to explain
why he has decided to visit them, he began to explain. You see, this place but she was not

She talks about how she is disappointed about living in the outback because she loves the city life
and if she had known she would end on the cattle farm when she married her husband, she would
not have done it. She seems very bitter about living there. Mrs. Hasting explains the reason for her
disappointment with the outback.

Theme of The Jungle Essay
In the book The Jungle by Upton Sinclair; this was first published by Fine Creative Media Inc. in
1906 (edition I read was published in 2003) it discuses life as an immigrant and how immigrants
foresaw the American dream and how they tired to achieve it. There where many themes for the
book. The theme that I took was most important was that life on the other side is not always better
then what one has. This theme can be shown many different ways throughout the book. It is shown
through the plot and through many examples of event that occurred though the book. In The Jungle
a young man named Jurgis Rudkus moves to the United States landing in Chicago, with his family
looking for a better life then what they had in Lithuania. They... Show more content on

will become back in touch with his family that he left and begin to support them on what he
makes by working at the hotel. As I read the book I felt more and more sorry for Jurgis and his
family. The struggles and hardships that they went though as well as what other immigrants
where going through at the time. I feel that people during this time where treated very unfairly
and when it came to the meat packing companies I think that the cows pigs had a better life. This
is because the animals where fed every day no matter what because the people that wanted to
sell them needed for them to look like that had a lot of meat on them not just skin and bone. The
pay that the people working in these plants made did not always pay for the rent of their one rat

It was a very stormy day on my grandpa s farm. The sky was filled with dark ominous clouds
reaching out to wreak havoc my day. I had to go milk the cow but when I got to the field she was

prints. So I went to the periphery of the acreage where it meets the wood line and found her. I had

Di Giovanni, a senior foreign correspondent for The Times, lived through the Balkan wars in the
former Yugoslavia. This book focuses mainly on the conflict in Kosovo in 1999 but Di Giovanni
also reports on the situation from the initial dissolution of the country up until the attempt at
reconstruction. The author also provides the reader with the historical context of the wars, such as
the events since the death of Tito and especially since 1992. It was in 1991 that the Catholic

Lava Lake Research Paper
The Lava Lake in Kilauea is Rising
There is a lava lake that sits within the Kilauea Volcano at the Halema uma u Crater in Hawaii,
and it has risen to its highest levels in years. So high in fact, that it s splattering above the crater
rim and creating heat and loud popping sounds. The lava lake was formed in 2008. It s only about
70 feet from the rim of the crater today.
Visitors Awed by Rising and Falling Lava Lake
Yesterday, the lava lake travelled to 90 feet from the rim. Such activity is deemed normal; however,
it is uncertain if it will continue to rise. USGS geologists believe that it s caused from inflation that

Lava Lake Forming Since September
The lava lake is caused from the eruption of the Kilauea volcano back in September, which has

Stereotypes Of Games
Within western societies, games are often common place. The average person will play a game
to relieve boredom, stress, or be a part of a community as many games require multiple people in
order to play. There are even games specifically designed for learning or refining hand eye
coordination. As the need for mental, and at times even emotion, stimulation grew so did the
variety of games. Games range from those you can play by simply speaking to those that require
electronic gamesystems that could cost hundreds of dollars. However, the problem that could, and

Essay On If Life Exist On Other Planets
Since the beginning of time, humans have looked out into space and wondered, are we are alone?
This curiosity about our own place in the universe has inspired many ideas and stories that attempt
to explain how life could exist on other planets. Scientists at NASA have been discovering
evidence that suggests it may be possible for life to exist on another planetwithin our own solar
system. I have always been interested in the mysteries of the universe, and never pass up an
opportunity to learn more about it. One current theory for the possibility life on other planets
focuses on Jupiter s moon Europa, a moon the size of a small planet. What evidence is there that
life could even exist on a moon encased in ice? How could a moon so... Show more content on

Now the thickest ice on earth ever recorded is a little over 4 km thick and is located in Antarctica.
To give you some perspective, 10 kilometers is about from Citrus College to the 10 freeway, and
that s just the minimum thickness, astronomers don t know for sure yet how deep the ice actually
is. But how could liquid water exist on a planet so far from the sun?
You might be asking yourself, why isn t the moon solid ice, similar to the former planet Pluto?
Even though Europa is much further from the sun than Earth, its inner ocean is believed to have
warm water, at least warm enough to be liquid. It gets much of its heat due to Jupiter s gravity,
pulling the oceans as it makes its orbit and creates friction with the ice and the salt water ocean
underneath. This effect is similar to the tides here on Earth. Europa s liquid ocean is estimated
to contain about twice the amount of liquid water than all of Earth s oceans. Most of Earth s
oceans still remain unexplored, and the life that exists there, undiscovered. Imagine what might
exist under an ocean twice that size. Scientists suspect Europa s ocean may have enough oxygen
to be able to support life, however, according to NASA in an article published by phys.org, a
science news website, the kind of life we may expect to find (if any) would be micro organisms
similar to the single celled forms of

Similarities Between Hamlet And The Count Of Monte Christo
The Effects of Revenge The pursuit of vengeance regardless of all consequences and collateral
damage is a fundamental aspect of the human condition. In both literature and reality great acts of
violence are the products of retribution. Subsequently, this theme of avenging a wrong is central to
both Hamletand The Count of Monte Christo. Revenge is unpredictable and often causes
unforeseen pain, making generally it undesirable. Attempting to enact vengeance upon a single
person may often cause unintentional harm to innocent people. In Hamlet the entire royal family
dies because of the plan Laertes and Claudius make (Shakespeare V.ii.310 360) . Additionally
Polonius s death is caused by Hamlet seeking revenge. These events show several ignorant... Show

The pursuit of vengeance can become a cycle of reciprocated hate. This principle was expressed
in Why Revenge Is Bad and Good, an article about a man nearly destroying his life by doing
violent, destructive things, as a result of his daughters death in the Oklahoma City bombing,
which was an additional revenge act (Robinson) . This article shows a modern example of a
revenge cycle chat almost consumed Bud Welch. The roles of the avenger and the recipient of
revenge often switch do to one party feeling shortchanged by the other. In an interview, Professor
Rosenbaum can be heard saying, The Saying an eye for an eye means simply that, the
punishment should be equal to the crime. and old societies took only what was equal to the crime
to insure that there was not any follow up reparations from either side. ( The Nonexistent )
Rosenbaum s words show that revenge should be equal to the crime in order to prevent more
conflict. However, The Complicated Psychology of Revenge states all people see what is
appropriate retaliation differently thereby making this all important equality nearly impossible.

Concealment in the Twelfth Night Essay
British Literature: Concealment in Twelfth Night
Throughout Twelfth Night, concealment influences each character s life because it s essential to
portray how falsehood can be amusing or agonizing before they can discover their identity in life.
Therefore, the concept of concealment not only affects the characters mistaken identities and
abilities to express true love, but it gives the story comedic and entertaining qualities. Furthermore,
concealment portrayed throughout this story makes each character develop an identity with either

acquired the skill to bide her time, until the time was right, in case she reveal her true self or

the dramatic ironies by causing complications of mistaken identity. Moreover, Viola cannot show
her love for Orsino, the only way she can express them is in her soliloquies to the reader, this
contributes to the dramatic ironies. For example, when Viola conveys to Orsino what Olivia told
her concerning love by saying:
A blank, my lord. She never told her love, But let concealment, like a worm i the bud, Feed on
her damask cheek. She pined in thought, And with a green and yellow melancholy She sat like

Robespierre Argumentative Dbq
Maximilien Robespierre Argumentative DBQ
On September 5, 1793, the National Convention of France declared terror the order of the day,
which essentially meant that the government would take any and all necessary measures to
maintain a sense of peace and stability. Strict laws and policies were imposed to ensure that the
nation would continue to evolve and change. This day marked the beginning of the infamous Reign
of Terror. The Reign of Terror was a period of turmoil in France following the onset of the French
Revolution in 1789. Extreme violence and unwarranted brutality became standard during this
decade. The head of the revolution and primary leader of the Committee of Public Safety was a
French politician named Maximilien Robespierre. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The spark that set off the Reign of Terror can be attributed to the king s attempted escape from
France in 1791 (Document 6). It is impossible for people of the modern world to comprehend
exactly what caused this mayhem simply because no one lived during that period. Regardless,
the event left the nation in a state of shock and uncertainty. The National Convention was forced
to make the difficult decision to place all of its power into an entirely new political branch,
knowing that something different was needed to save France. Before he was chosen to run the
Committee of Public Safety, Robespierre was revered for his courage and sheer determination.
He ridiculed the notion that a monarchy could last and instead pushed for democratic reforms
(Document 2). Robespierre spoke to the people of France with an air of confidence that quickly
won them over. His morals were fundamentally based on the ideals of early enlightenment
thinker Jean Jacques Rousseau. Both men asserted that man is good by nature but poisoned by
society. Robespierre also believed that all men deserve to be treated as equals in the eyes of the
law (Document 3). The central cause of the French Revolution was the nation s lack of a strong
military in the face of civil war and foreign invasion. Rebuilding the military was arguably the
most significant advancement that occurred during the Reign of Terror. Robespierre created a
law called the Law of Universal Conscription in an effort to propel the French military to a
reasonable state. This law mandated all men between the ages of 18 and 40 to join the army.
Additionally, women were called into service to make uniforms. Robespierre further ensured that
his troops were well fed and prepared to spring into combat at any moment by reserving the best
bread for soldiers only. After decades of internal and external conflict,

While trying to retrieve some nephews from a British prison ship, Andrew s mother also fell ill

81 participants. Since there were a total of 81, 47 were males representing roughly 58% of the
respondents, and the remaining over 40% were female. Those participants were drawn from various
ethnicities that would include Asian, Black American, White Caucasian, and American Indian.
According to Brunner (2005), he confirmed that subjects of any studies that would relate to cultural

(p. 28). Consequently, those participants were equally drawn from different countries in the
world to participate in the study (p. 28). A majority of the respondents could speak English and

in the study that Korean was the least spoken language among respondents at 1.22%. In fact, the
age range that most participants fell under was between 18 and 24 years followed by 25 30 years,
which was amounting to 48.78% and 39.02% respectively.

How Did The Levels And Spheres Of Standard Oil Change Society
With reference to the levels and spheres of corporate power discussed in [chapter 3], how did the
power of Standard Oil change society? Was this power exercised in keeping with the social contract
of Rockefeller s era?
With reference to the levels and spheres of corporate power discussed in the chapter, Rockefeller
and the powers of Standard Oil had impacts to the society economically, technologically, politically,
and culturally. When Rockefeller was young, he found an investment that would change him for the
rest of his life. The Cleveland petroleum refinery in which he invested $4,000 in 1863, was still in
its beginning stages. However, Rockefeller was devoted to the oil business, soon becoming one
the most successful men in history. Economic power is the ability of the corporation to influence
events, activities, and people by the virtue of control over resources, particularly property. The
power of Standard Oil changed society by leading the economy to economic growth. The Standard
Oil business had built facilities and employed workers. In turn, this had also increased the
economy to a fuel related industry. As Rockefeller had expanded the business of his company,
Standard Oil also improved and perfected their oil refined technology. In terms of a deeper level of
the power, the Standard Oil business sparked the development in other industries, such as the
automobile industry. The textbook states, However, just as electric lightbulbs were replacing oil
lamps, the

Ford s Effect On Manufacturing Industry
On July 30, 1863, an industrialist was born, neither him nor anyone for that matter, knew he was
to forever change the world, he was known as Henry Ford (1863 1947). Ford grew up on his
parents farm in Michigan. He loved to work on the farm machinery. He was good at fixing things
and could even repair watches. Although Ford did not invent the automobile but his introduction of
the Model T automobile revolutionized transportation and American industry, his inventions are
still marveled in the modern world today. Henry Fordinstalled the World s first moving assembly
linein December 1913. Ford and the assembly line improved work conditions, revolutionized
production and revolutionized American society.
Ford effect on manufacturing reaches worldwide. Prior to the Industrial Revolution people were
largely self reliant, but the industrial revolution transported increased separation of labor, and
this separation of labor got a specialization, which carried increased productivity. Specialization,
however, decreased self sufficiency and people became gradually dependent on one another.
Which was the process of socialization of labor. Ford was capable of making a reliable and low
cost auto because of his ground breaking, assembly line. The Assembly line is a sequence of
workers, machines, and parts down which an incomplete product passes, each worker performing a
procedure, until the product is assembled (Mass Production). The assembly line was undoubtedly

Informative Speech On Mayan Civil War
Good morning, my name is Maria Yalibat and I want to talk about the Guatemalan civil war.
This war took place for 36 years. It started in 1954 and a peace accords was signed in
1996.Guatemala s civil war was the bloodiest during 1978 1983. The mass murders conducted was
enough to be considered a genocide. My purpose today is to inform you of this war because the
United Statesplayed a big role in this, which led to inhumane murder, economic distress and
killing spree of innocent Mayans. To begin, the war started when the president at that time Jacobo
Arbenz was elected democratically. He wanted to redistribute land from the wealthy and the united
fruit company to allow poor farmers a chance to survive and have crops to be able to make a living.

They had been cheated and wanted their land back. Many Mayans supported them and felt that
they were their only hope. Soon they started saying that Mayas and guerillas were a huge threat
to society. According to, Beatriz Manz, more than 200,000 people were killed and 70 percent
were Mayan and 600 massacres occurred. They targeted Mayan women, children and men, they
beat them, raped them, humiliated them and burned them alive. The United States was a big
cause of why this got so big and gruesome. They supplied weapons and training according to the,
Socialist lawyer. If the United States believed in democracy and liberty, why did they put a
dictator? Post war conditions were horrible. And until this day there isn t much peace or
democracy that the US fought for in the first place. When Efrain Rios Montt was president he took
things farther. My mother s mother told her that she had seen the military, line men up who robbed
or did something wrong and put blind folds on them and killed them in front of everyone. They
started to lynch people. My father said that generals would tell indigenous people to come down
from the mountains and sell them their land but as soon as they got down they killed them

Questioning Identities, Unnecessary Deaths Syrian Governmental Problems and Refugees: In For
Those Who Remain in Syria, Daily Life is a Nightmare (2015), Maher Samaan asserts that the
Syrian government is creating more chaos for their country than the actual insurgent groups are.
Samaan illustrates his view of the Syrian government (they are doing a terrible job of keeping their
citizens safe) by citing statistics that illuminate how the governmental air strikes are causing
significantly more deaths than the terrorist groups they are supposedly fighting, accomplishing
practically nothing aside from killing their own citizens. The examples he gives help to

They clearly are happy with all that they have done in their own life if they have no other
regrets, so there is no reason for them to want to be a different person. Further, everyone is who
they are meant to be, and they do what they are meant to do. Everyone s life has a purpose and
every person is relied upon by someone else, even if they do not realize it. People affect other
people s lives in ways they cannot comprehend, and if a person wants to be someone else, then
they are taking away from all of the lives that they have previously touched in the past. A person
may want to be someone else because they seem to have a better life than the one that they have,
however, they could have problems or difficulties that are unseen by everyone else. No one s life
is perfect. Everyone faces challenges, and everyone has rewards. Some challenges may seem
harder than others and some rewards may seem better than others, but that is based purely upon
an outsider s perspective. Different people value different things in life and, as a result, will
view things with possibly inverse perspectives. So something may seem to be excellent to one
person but terrible to another. Also, some things may have an outwardly appearance of being
good or bad, but could actually be the opposite in the circumstances given. An outsider looking in
on another person s life would not be able to tell directly whether it was good or bad and may get
the wrong idea and decide they want what that person has. However, they may not realize that that
experience probably had a lot of background going into it that they do not quite understand and may
not want to get into. Overall, a person should be happy with the life that they have and

The Importance Of A Sonnets
Wednesday, 4th February 2015
Dear Young Poet,
I am writing this letter to you to as I have heard that you have decided to write a sonnet using all of
the techniques that are required to create a successful and meaningful sonnet. I am also writing this
letter to you to explain the significance of a sonnet. To explain this to you, I will be using the
example of an Shakespearean sonnet, which is the most simple and flexible form of all the
sonnets, to tell you why sonnets are important and why they need to be written. The
Shakespearean sonnet that I will be talking about is Sonnet 18, Shall I compare thee to a summer s
day? , by William Shakespeare. This sonnet is one of his most famous sonnets and is very
straightforward in the language and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Each quatrain is used to develop a sequence of metaphors or ideas. The couplets are used to
summarise the sonnet or is a new take on the foregoing ideas and images. Most of Shakespearean
sonnets focus on the theme of love, beauty and worthiness. Sonnet 18 s theme focused on the
stability of love and its power to immortalize the subject about whom the poet was writing. The
rhyming couplets in this poem helps redefine the whole poem and also sums it up. It states that the
poet believes that as long as there is breath in mankind, his poetry too will live on and that the
person that is described in the poem will remain immortal. In Sonnet 18, each line is end stopped
and self contained; there is punctuation at the end of each line, which creates a pause. All of the
lines between one to nine are comparing a man to the summer s day as the first line, Shall I
compare thee to a summer s day? , helps define the comparisons that are written later on in the
poem (the main axis of comparison). From the ninth line of the poem, the volta takes place and
Shakespeare switches from describing a man with the summer day to describing the immortality of
his beloved. He has metamorphosed into the standard of how true beauty should be defined in the
sestet. Shakespearean sonnets usually have a lot of alliteration and assonance but Sonnet 18 isn t
heavy with alliteration and assonances and the language is

Physical Violence And Domestic Violence
Physical Violence
Physical abuse is defined as deliberately act which causes injuries and intentionally hurting
someone with the weapons. Physical violence is common among intimate partners. Most of the
male partners often hit their female partners when they are angry or when their partners start
arguing with them. Sometimes husband even breaks the bone of his wife over small things like if
she is not ready on time or when the food is not cooked properly. Physical violence can cause
various health problems in women like chronic joint or muscle pain, loss of hair, stab wounds, cuts,
bites, sprains, chipped or lost teeth, internal injuries, chronic headache, high blood pressure, burns,
chronic stomach pain and detached retina etc.. For example In Mumbai s Bhabha Hospital, people
who are wounded among them, the number of women is large and most of the women who come
there have been victims of domestic violence. In the consultancy department , almost 40% are
women affected by domestic violence , there are the cases of poisoning, fracture, wounds,
battered women, pregnant women, who say they fell but usually these are domestic violence
cases. When the attacker was none other than her life partner, then how can she feel safe at home.
The casualty ward in this hospital gets fewer cases of typhoid, malaria or TB and more women
who are victims of domestic violence and this is about one hospital in one locality, in one day.

Latino Voters And Hispanic Voters

survey in June 5, 2001(Abrajano, Nagler, Alverez, 2005). The result showed that there were
racial preference in the voting patterns for the mayoral race, where 82% of Latino voters
supported the Latino candidate Villaraigosa, 79% of black voters supported the white candidate
Hahn and 58% of whites voted for Hahn (Abrajano, Nagler, Alverez, 2005). Delgadillo won the
city attorney race receiving the majority support from the Latino voters and black voters
(Abrajano, Nagler, Alverez, 2005). White voters who crossed over to vote for a Latino
candidate voted based on the issue and position that the candidate was running on, but for Latino
voters who voted for the white candidate, the context of the race mattered less (Abrajano, Nagler,
Alverez, 2005). In the spatial model, voter s ideology had a positive significance in both races
(Abrajano, Nagler, Alverez, 2005). The more liberal the voters in the mayor race were, increased
the chances that they would vote for the Latino candidate while in the city attorney race the more
conservative the voter were the more likely they would vote for the Latino candidate (Abrajano,
Nagler, Alverez, 2005). Matsubayashi and Ueda (2010) analyzed whether white voters used

Description Of My Major Project Part 2 Essay
Career Episode 3
Introduction
CE 3.1
In this report I want to explain about my major project part 2 which was done during the tenure of
bachelor of Technology in Electrical and Electronics Engineering.
Chronology : 2012
Geographical location : India
Organization Name : College Name
Project Name : Full Wave Rectifier Circuit
Title of Position : Team Leader
Background
CE 3.2
In my previous project on developing of voltage multiplier, I had used the rectifier for enhancing
the voltage at the output but in the end, I had obtained lower current relatively. At that instant, I
was researching many rectifiers from half wave to full wave and with the help of my project guide;
I had finally made a call to develop a full wave rectifier circuit.
Abstract
CE 3.2.1
Right from the start of my academic career, I was interested in the area of rectification and how
the rectification is done in lower powered circuits and high powered circuits but most of times I
had used the capacitors over the load resistance for lowering the current ripples as they were
sufficient and rarely used the rectifiers in the high powered circuits. During lab sessions, when we
are required some smooth, steady or stable and uninterruptable DC power supply, I had used the
Full Wave Rectifier as Half Wave Rectifier only supports for one half of the input voltage. Initially,
started working with the sample or trail circuit involving the

A Brief Note On The Pathway Of Vision
1A. The pathway of vision is most easily explained by a light sensory neuron that is triggered
and then is passed on to the interneurons, passed on to the LGN neuron in the thalamus, which
then goes to the occipital cortex neuron. When the eye sees the red balloon start to come out of
hand of the man, the left visual field picks it up and the light travels through the left eye of the
retina to get to the photoreceptors, these signals are then passed through synapses to bipolar cells
and from there to ganglion cells which leave the eye as the optic nerve. Some of the axons or
ganglion cells cross over to the other side of the brainand some of those axons stay on the same
side of the brain. This is so the visual field can cross the image over to the correct side of the
brain that it will be essentially processed at. One pathway that the brain sees and image is the old
pathway , and this pathway would tell me where the balloon is and enables me to turn my head
and body to follow it as it is released. The other pathway it is seen as is the new pathway , which
determines what exactly the object is and then decides how to respond to the image. The temporal
lobes control the what that you see, the parietal lobe controls the how pathway.
1B. Top down processing is when the brain fills in information when the eye can t see exactly
everything that is suppose to be seen. For example, the blind spot in the eye that is created by the
optic nerve is filled in with

However, currently becomes popular in the world. In Ethiopia its production exceeds that of most other cereals. Each year, Ethiopian farmers plant almost 1.4 million hectares of tefand they produce 0.9 million tons of grain or about a quarter of the country s total cereals. The grain is especially popular in the western provinces, where people prefer it to all other cereals and eat it once or twice (occasionally three times) every day. In that area, tef contributes about two thirds of the protein to a typical diet Unlike other orphan crops, tef is not in decline. Indeed, farmers have steadily increased their plantings in recent years. The area... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 3. Robert Niccol s Time Is A Film Directed By Andrew Niccol... In Time Andrew Niccol 1.11 internal. In Time is a film directed by Andrew Niccol. The film uses a range of film techniques to show the inequality across time zones. We see Will striving to achieve equality among society. We see how Will experiences near death and the struggles of trying to achieve his goal. During the scene we see Will at the Weis party, the minute men come to question him about the wealththat Will has just received. During the scene, we see inequality across the zones of Dayton and New Greenwich. The director uses a range of camera techniques to show Will getting interrogated to create suspense and a clear power struggle. We see a long shot of Will Salas when he is getting questioned by the timekeeper Raymond Leon. Will is now suddenly trapped and is forced to be seated into a substantial plush chair. The setting is green painted room with gold incorporated into the decor. The long shot then transitions into a high angle shot. Through the shot, we can see guards positioned on either side of Will. This emphasizes that Will has been ambushed and is overpowered and that they are watching every move that Will makes. We also learn within the scene that Will is captured and cannot escape the timekeeper as well as the guards. This contrasts back to Dayton where the bars on Will s apartment windows symbolised that he was trapped and was living in a controlled area. We learn that Will has ambition to make to make the system of time vanish and to become ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Godfather Conflict This quote highlights the basis half of the plot and conflicts of the The Godfather, and half of what led to it becoming the American classic it is. From 1972, this inspirational film explores a highly romanticized version of the Italian mafioso culture. With most of the plot being split into either family, business, or the conflicts when they overlap. this drama has to dig deep to hook onto emotions that we can relate to. Based on Mario Puzo s novel, directed by Francis Ford Coppola , and acted by both experts and amateurs alike, The Godfatherwas produced masterfully. While we may not be able to identify with the overall business side of the story, we are able to do so with the half closer to home. The exceptional usage of the three hours allows this film to not seem rushed while having us hang onto every word. Personally, the part of the film that really sold this as one of my top movies was the dual family/business nature of the most of the plot as well as how Michael compared to Vito in being the Godfather.. The striking juxtaposition induces at least a few questions about how a character may have handled an... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Corleones steadily became more violent over the course of The Godfather, but this can be attributed to the fact that the threat against their family is increasing. On the other hand, the moment Vito is out of the picture, Michael offers to murder the family s enemies for revenge. Even when Sonny is brutally peppered by bullets from a dozen Barzini buttonmen, Vito offers a ceasefire opportunity. Michael simply had them all assassinated because it would be easier and more efficient overall. We see here that the father son morality split is why this movie is such an inspiration and a model for power struggles in general. The independent leadership styles of the latest Godfather make it very clear that like father, like son can be staggeringly wrong at ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Experimental Research Critique Analysis of a Research Study Automaticity of Social Behavior: Direct Effects of Trait Construct and Stereotype Activation on Action Abstract Former research is an explicit indicator of how one s behavior can be a product of the situation that person is present in. Experiment one of Automaticity of Social Behaviour: Direct Effects of Trait Construct and Stereotype Activation on Action that trait concepts and stereotypes by John A. Bargh, Mark Chen, and Lara Burrows of New York University provides an experiment analyzing that behaviour through an experiment which will form the basis of critique in this paper. Background of the experiment For decades social psychologists have scrutinized the impact of priming on an individual s behaviour. Priming indicates to the trigger of certain traits by controlling environmental factors. Recent studies have surfaced the finding that a desired behaviour can be brought about in an individual by the mere presence of relevant situational factors .The extent to which a person has control over his or her emotions is still under a lot of scrutiny. However it is proven through numerous studies carried out by many researchers that many of the behaviour brought about by an individual are voluntary in nature. This experiment is carried out to investigate this very concept of psychology. Introduction It is proposed that one s behaviour is an involuntary act that is directly linked to the ... • 8. Maslow vs. Mcgregor Backgrounds Douglas McGregor was a management professor at the MIT Sloan School of Management. He introduced a new motivational theory in his book The Human Side of Enterprise , stating that all workers were divided into two groups: Theory X and Theory Y. Theory X workers were lazy, irrational and unreliable, and were only motivated by money and threatened by punishment. Theory Y workers were able to seek and accept responsibilities and fulfil any goals given. The Human Side of Enterprise, written my McGregor in 1960, was voted the fourth most influential management book of the 20th century by the Fellows of the Academy of Management. Social needs acquired by such employees include love, acceptance and belonging. They must feel accepted and a sense of worthiness before they can work up to fulfilling other, more difficult needs. The esteem level on Maslow s Hierarchy of Needs is the need for appreciation and respect. After the other levels of needs have been fulfilled, the esteem needs begin to play a prominent role in motivating behaviour. Theory Y employees will be motivated to gain respect in their organisation by achieving company objectives and by showing management their skills and abilities. The top need desired by such employees is self actualisation. Maslow himself said; What a man can be, he must be What he meant by this is that people must achieve their full potential as human beings and that nothing else is worth more that becoming the best you can be. Theory Y employees spend their working lives striving for self actualisation, which is the ultimate source of motivation. It stimulates the desire for more once experienced. Contrasts Although Maslow and McGregor are thinking alike, as I mentioned earlier, The Human Side of Enterprise makes no concrete references to Maslow s theories. He doesn t seem to recognise the condition of lower level needs to be met for people to aspire to those of higher level. McGregor simply separates workers into different groups ... • 9. Beethoven Was A German Composer ( 1770-1827 ) Introduction Beethoven was a German composer (1770 1827). His early achievements, as composer and performer, show him to be extending the Viennese Classical tradition that he had inherited from Mozart and Haydn (Kerman). The time period between 1801 to 1802, Beethoven had begun to realize that he was gradually becoming deaf. The immediate results of this devastating discover was withdrawal from his glittering social life: I find it impossible to say to people, I am deaf, he wrote (Taruskin). As a result, he began to compose in an increasingly individual style, and at the end of his life he wrote his most sublime and profound works (Kerman). His major works include 9 symphonies, 11 overtures, 1 violin concerto, 16 string quartets, 9... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By the age of twelve, after establishing a local reputation as a piano prodigy, he was appointed assistant to the Electoral court organist (Taruskin). At eighteen, Beethoven took over some of his father s duties as singer and instrumentalist (Taruskin). When he was nineteen, Beethoven wrote two cantatas the first cantata on the death of the emperor Joseph II and the coronation of Leopold II, Joseph s successor (Taruskin). These cantatas were shown to Joseph Haydn (1732 1809), who was passing from Bonn en route to England in 1790, and received his approval. As a result, in 1792, the Elector arranged for Beethoven to study with Haydn in Vienna, which marked his decade in Vienna (Taruskin). His training with Haydn was short lived, as Haydn was summoned back to England in 1794. Beethoven then studied counterpoint with Johann Georg Albrechtsberger for a year and Italian poetry with Antonio Salieri (Burkholder). During Haydn s absence, Beethoven began to make a name for himself as a virtuoso piano performer and improviser at the piano. He performed in public concerts and gave piano lessons to well to do students. He also became the darling of the aristocratic salon set (Taruskin). During his first decade in Vienna, Beethoven wrote a number of piano works, which included sonatas, variations and shorter works for piano (Burkholder). • 10. Role Of Merit In Buddhism This week s readings are focused on how Buddhist monasteries in China and India play an important role in producing merit. Both Lopez and Gethin explain the differences each region played in producing merit through devotional practices. Lopez explains in chapter 27, how monasteries in China implemented acts of merit into their daily practice. In addition Gethin illustrates how monks in India lived their lives practicing merit. Even though Buddhist monasteries play a significant role in producing meritorious acts, the lay community is significant. All four assemblies of monks, nuns, male lay followers and female lay followers played a role in producing merit. Merit plays a significant role in the Buddhist monasteries. Merit is not signally ... • 11. Essay On Rattus Norvegicus The underlying theme between all three studies is microevolution, over time the Rattus Norvegicus were able to adapt to type of the environment they were reared in by adjusting their metabolism. Although they produced many progeny, the ones with the greatest fitness, and had produced the most young were the ones with the advantageous trait. They would either have a higher metabolism during cold climates or a low metabolism in a warm climate. There was a distinct inverse relationship between the thermal environment and metabolic rates found in these rats. The results from the first study indicated that rats were capable of responding to the energetic demands of their thermal environment with metabolic compensations. Throughout development, warm housed... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The results showed that rats raised in cooler temperatures developed a greater body and coat mass that those of warm reared mats. This significant difference indicates that the environment plays an important role in the hair coat insulation. The rats reared in the cooler temperature had maintained a relatively heavier hair coat with darker fur while those that were raised in the warmer temperatures had relatively lighter hair in lighter color. The heavier hair coat plays a greater role in the maintenance of body temperatures of the Rattus Norvegicus due to high surface to volume ratio, which decreases with size and age. This notion supports the conclusions of the previous study where rats that were reared in the colder temperatures were smaller. It was essential for them to be smaller so that they their longer hair would have a higher surface to volume ratio. The differences found in the development of the coat mass relative to body mass as a result of thermal environment suggest that the Rattus Norvegicus adjust their hair coat insulation at the juvenile age of day 22 to reduce the energetic costs of thermoregulation in their housing ... • 12. Analysis Of Leonard Bernstein s West Side Story Leonard Bernstein worked with Arthur Laurents, Jerome Robbins, and Stephen Sondheim to produce the 1957 Broadway musical West Side Story, a Romeo and Juliet like love story between Polish American Tony and Puerto Rican Maria in New York s West Side (Peyser 261; Fishko). Bernstein composed the music for the production. Each artist was renowned and therefore understood that their unique, artistic approaches were successful, essentially ensuring that there would be disagreements in the creation of the musical. For instance, Laurents, the musical s author, reveals that Bernstein seemed to almost dominate the development of the storyline, but Laurents was adamant that he would not write a Bernstein opera (Peyser 263). Moreover, Bernstein felt... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Urban gangs were increasingly relevant during the 1950s, particularly in 1955, when gang warfare in cities frequently made newspaper headlines (Gutmann). The relevance of the musical s plot to its time period reveals that one of the reasons behind West Side Story s success is simple: the musical, to a certain extent, was relatable to the majority of its audience s life. Bernstein became the first American born director of a major American orchestrathe New York Philharmonic in 1958 (Peyser 298). This historical event shook the musical world since Bernstein was never like the other prominent musicians of his time. Classical music was always seen as a form of high culture. That Bernstein was a homosexual, middle class Jewish American characteristics that were not well received in the musical field made it difficult for him to be appointed to any prestigious musical position. These characteristics acted as an obstacle to his mentor Koussevitzky s interest in Bernstein inheriting his position as conductor of the Boston Symphony. In addition to Bernstein s inherent traits, Bernstein s involvement with the show business and popular music, like jazz, did not appeal to the Boston Symphony s trustees since Bernstein did not seem like a serious classical artist. American composer Morton Gould later revealed that one of the trustees hoped On the Town [the musical composed by Bernstein] would fail because then Bernstein might ... • 13. Near Death Experiences Research Draft Sienna Carugan October 30, 2014 CPC Research Peer Edit Near Death Experiences Research Draft I looked up and I saw this light; it wasn t a normal light, it was different. It was luminescent. And it grew. I kept looking at it like, What is that? Then it grew large and I went into it (Sunfellow, David). Near deathexperiences and the knowledge of near death experiences have become more common in today s society. Countless books have recently been written on them such as Heaven is for Real, Near Death Experiences of Suicide Survivors, Proof of Heaven, and 90 minutes in Heaven, but not everyone believes in these experiences. Some atheists, scientists and doctors have all tried to debunk the theory, but are they nonbelievers or disbelievers? A non believer is one who does not have faith or believe, a dis believer refuses to believe. Many people have stated that they have had near death experiences and of course with that comes the naysayers. The point is to look beyond scientific belief and to look at the proof we have from doctors records or for some, their own experiences. There are still many skeptics about NDEs but with countless records and so much proof, there draws a thin line between real and make believe. In order to prove that these experiences are true to the non believers we need to not only gather records but also scientific proof of these phenomenons. First, Religion is a strong opponent with near death experiences. The Bible, Koran and the Tibetan ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. Legally Blonde In the acclaimed 2001 film, Legally Blonde, the main character, Elle Woods, is a fantastic feminine icon for women. The film represents the struggle females face to prove their abilities. Remarkably, Elle never succumbs to those who adamantly see her as being foolish and not good enough. As a result of incomplete combustion of fuels, additional by products such as carbon monoxide (CO), unburned hydrocarbons (HC), and particulate matter (PM) are also formed. Many of these emissions have health and climate impacts on both a local and global level. (Jamin et al, 2004) Globally the environmental impact of aircraft largely results from two major sources, the emissions of greenhouse gases (mainly CO2, HC, NO2) and the creation of high altitude water vapor resulting in the formation of contrails. Contrails are created in the wake of an aircraft as the warm, moist engine exhaust gas expands and mixes with colder and drier outside air. Water droplets can be formed and these droplets rapidly freeze to form ice crystals. With enough water vapor, the amount of condensation to ice is faster than that of evaporation, and the ice crystals will grow to form visible contrails (see Schumann (1996) for a review). Contrails affect the climate by reducing solar heating during the day and radiation of heat during the night by increasing the extent to which it diffusely reflects light, therefore reducing the range between day and night temperatures. It has four main steps, each of which are a process in themselves: placement on a tentative list, submission of a nomination file, evaluation by an Advisory Body, and a final decision by the World Heritage Committee. The entire process usually takes about a year and a half, but can vary depending of the time taken for each step (World Heritage Ireland, 2010). The State Party can demonstrate the authenticity and integrity by listing and defending any and all works completed on the site, whether for conservation, restoration, or adaptation (World Heritage Ireland, 2010). This history of works is important, because if a site has been reconstructed so many times that barely an of the original survives, the site may no longer have authenticity. The history of the site itself and the surrounding culture is also important, because it helps to demonstrate the Outstanding Universal Value (OUV) of the site, as well as how it might fit the criteria as a unique or exceptional example of cultural traditions, civilizations living or dead, or any of the other ten criteria. The nomination file also has to contain a management plan to insure the OUV, authenticity, and integrity of the site are maintained for future generations. But how could liquid water exist on a planet so far from the sun? You might be asking yourself, why isn t the moon solid ice, similar to the former planet Pluto? Even though Europa is much further from the sun than Earth, its inner ocean is believed to have warm water, at least warm enough to be liquid. It gets much of its heat due to Jupiter s gravity, pulling the oceans as it makes its orbit and creates friction with the ice and the salt water ocean underneath. This effect is similar to the tides here on Earth. Europa s liquid ocean is estimated to contain about twice the amount of liquid water than all of Earth s oceans. Most of Earth s oceans still remain unexplored, and the life that exists there, undiscovered. Imagine what might exist under an ocean twice that size. • 35. Robespierre Argumentative Dbq Maximilien Robespierre Argumentative DBQ On September 5, 1793, the National Convention of France declared terror the order of the day, which essentially meant that the government would take any and all necessary measures to maintain a sense of peace and stability. Strict laws and policies were imposed to ensure that the nation would continue to evolve and change. This day marked the beginning of the infamous Reign of Terror. The Reign of Terror was a period of turmoil in France following the onset of the French Revolution in 1789. Extreme violence and unwarranted brutality became standard during this decade. The spark that set off the Reign of Terror can be attributed to the king s attempted escape from France in 1791 (Document 6). It is impossible for people of the modern world to comprehend exactly what caused this mayhem simply because no one lived during that period. Regardless, the event left the nation in a state of shock and uncertainty. The National Convention was forced to make the difficult decision to place all of its power into an entirely new political branch, knowing that something different was needed to save France. Before he was chosen to run the Committee of Public Safety, Robespierre was revered for his courage and sheer determination. He ridiculed the notion that a monarchy could last and instead pushed for democratic reforms (Document 2). Robespierre spoke to the people of France with an air of confidence that quickly won them over. His morals were fundamentally based on the ideals of early enlightenment thinker Jean Jacques Rousseau. Both men asserted that man is good by nature but poisoned by society. Robespierre also believed that all men deserve to be treated as equals in the eyes of the law (Document 3). The central cause of the French Revolution was the nation s lack of a strong military in the face of civil war and foreign invasion. Rebuilding the military was arguably the most significant advancement that occurred during the Reign of Terror. Robespierre created a law called the Law of Universal Conscription in an effort to propel the French military to a reasonable state. This law mandated all men between the ages of 18 and 40 to join the army. Additionally, women were called into service to make uniforms. Robespierre further ensured that his troops were well fed and prepared to spring into combat at any moment by reserving the best bread for soldiers only. Sonnet 18 s theme focused on the stability of love and its power to immortalize the subject about whom the poet was writing. The rhyming couplets in this poem helps redefine the whole poem and also sums it up. It states that the poet believes that as long as there is breath in mankind, his poetry too will live on and that the person that is described in the poem will remain immortal. • 54. A Brief Note On The Pathway Of Vision 1A. The pathway of vision is most easily explained by a light sensory neuron that is triggered and then is passed on to the interneurons, passed on to the LGN neuron in the thalamus, which then goes to the occipital cortex neuron. When the eye sees the red balloon start to come out of hand of the man, the left visual field picks it up and the light travels through the left eye of the retina to get to the photoreceptors, these signals are then passed through synapses to bipolar cells and from there to ganglion cells which leave the eye as the optic nerve. Some of the axons or ganglion cells cross over to the other side of the brainand some of those axons stay on the same side of the brain. This is so the visual field can cross the image over to the correct side of the brain that it will be essentially processed at. One pathway that the brain sees and image is the old pathway , and this pathway would tell me where the balloon is and enables me to turn my head and body to follow it as it is released. The other pathway it is seen as is the new pathway , which determines what exactly the object is and then decides how to respond to the image. The temporal lobes control the what that you see, the parietal lobe controls the how pathway. 1B.
