Research). Much to their credit, CEOs are overcoming these challenges and, to a growing degree, embracing the opportunities
that come from being social.
Operating in an increasingly connected and transparent digital world where the general public is acutely attuned to what CEOs
say and do, executives see online engagement as a prime opportunity for their chief executives to share their companies’
stories and elevate the reputation of their companies. With eight in 10 global executives reporting that it is important for
CEOs to have a visible public profile for a company to be highly regarded, online channels and social media become one set of
tools for CEOs to increase their external equity. And doing so comes with reputational rewards: highly regarded companies
are more than three times as likely as those with weak reputations to have a CEO who participates in social media. (The CEO

The release of information to the public – including through social media – can impact everything from a company’s image before the public to an individual’s image before a company. Jackson et al. (2020) note that while “strategic HR use of social media can build the employer’s reputation in the labor market and help HR professionals to reach candidates and current employees,” the use of social media can also “lead to the disclosure of trade secrets” or present a negative image of the company (p. 21). While companies place substantial hours and dollars into cultivating a favorable brand image before the public, a careless comment or complaint by an employee or contractor on social media can go viral and counteract such marketing efforts. In such cases, companies may find themselves forced to address such comments or complaints before the public in an attempt to save the brand image they have worked so hard to build.
In addition to impacting the image of a company, careless social media posts can also impact potential and current employees before the company. According to Melton and Miller (2015), while “most students appear to know that the content they post” on social media could be viewed negatively by “potential employers,” many students continue to do so (p. 678). Through social media, what would have been a careless comment if spoken aloud becomes a permanent statement viewable by countless individuals. Furthermore, comments and images referencing illegal activities or poor decision-making and communicating abilities become enshrined for potential and current employers to reference and base hiring and firing decisions upon.
It is worth noting that careless comments via social media can go beyond “negative,” and can sometimes involve trade secrets (as noted). While negative comments can cast a shadow over a company’s brand, comments revealing trade secrets can jeopardize long-term strategies, losing hard-won competitive edges. As referenced above, Melton and Miller (2015) assert that even though individuals know of such risks, many continue to post comments that can be understood to be “careless.”

Social media has had a huge impact in the modern generation. The lives of most people in the modern world revolve around social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter. This aspect has led to some firms employing it as a marketing tool. However, some firms still believe that social media does not have any advantages in the corporate world, thus only suitable for social interactions. However, this is not the case as some firms have ended up benefiting a lot as a result of employing social media as a marketing tool (Girard & Girard, 2011). According to a report from the Hubspot, over 92% of marketers claimed that social media was a very important tool for businesses in 2014. These marketers went to say that this tool increases traffic in their websites. Despite many marketers' positive attitude towards this tool, some of them still do not know how to effectively employ this tool. This aspect has led to some firms taking a pragmatic approach in integrating this tool in their operations. However, the positive attitude is a demonstration that this tool has a potential of increasing sales if well employed.
Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube have significantly contributed in the processes of bring about democracy in non-democratic cultures. Specifically, the young people depend on these sites to organize and communicate matters they want to express. These sites provide social structures where people with different background, cultures, and similar interest join forces over shared set of demands. They use social media to set agenda or come up with hierarchy leading to attempts to bring about changes (Tufekci & Wilson, 2012). People now use Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube to fuel spontaneous protests that are difficult to predict and control.Social media sites are the best places to effectively stir pleasure for changes because the youth are the majority of the people who use the sites. The youth are the main power who can make all changes, for example, they will want to stop any violence against human rights (Tufekci & Wilson, 2012). When doing this I would resort to use Facebook since it has more members in comparison to the other two; this would be much easier to mobilize more individuals. As the person behind the movement for changes, I will not choose to remain anonymous.
I believe that the social media can serve as both gateway and catalyst for social and cultural changes since the minority also participate in global media that has a homogenizing impact on the culture in the world. The use of media fosters changes in culture perspectives and the minority uses the same to extend the reach of their culture (Tufekci & Wilson, 2012). Creating the ideal marketing plan requires many steps and gathering data. “Knowing the needs of the customer and having a clearly articulated mission will help to target the message to an audience who will be most interested in the service that is being provided” (Sciarra, Lynch, Adams, & Dorsey (2016) p. 340). To find these needs, a needs assessment can be done. After gathering the results, a plan can start to form. Creating a Strength, Weakness, Opportunities, and Threats chart (SWOT) will give you a broader view on how to target your population.
“The first step in conducting SWOT analysis is to identify your stakeholders and data that has already been collected” (Sciarra, (2016) p. 340). Your stakeholders will guide you into the right direction for a plan of action. Looking at the type of population including the children, families, and staff members will give you the data to create your SWOT. Moving forward with the data, now to breakdown your SWOT data analysis and create a marketing plan. Strengths; reviewing this section will give you an objective overview of any changes needing to be made. Strengths can consist of staff, location, cliental, and possibly opportunities. If there are areas of weakness this gives us the ability to make changes. Moving forward with those changes leads us to Weakness, do we see a pattern of areas? What can we do to upgrade or change these areas we have identified? Moving on next to Opportunities, what options do we have beyond what we have now? The world of business has changed dramatically over the past generation in many
different ways. One of the most obvious ways this has occurred is through the use of social
networks to hire employees as well as to advertise and share information. This paper will
examine several key changes in which businesses use social media today as opposed to
yesteryear as well as discuss the benefits and disadvantages and ethical situations.
It has become well known information that anything placed upon the Internet becomes
public information almost immediately. Facebook, Myspace, and Twitter have all become
portals for which personal information is handed out without a second thought. It appears that
simply because we type something as opposed to actually voicing the words, it is easier to
disclose personal information about ourselves. I find that individuals rarely think of anyone
other than the individual they are thinking of at the current moment receiving their information.
Next I will give examples of how these assumptions can actually hurt not only an individual’s
reputation, but also their ability to become employed.
Each one of us have established our own sense of acceptable actions for communicating
with different sets of people. Some things which we say to our friends and family we understand
are not acceptable to our coworkers or superiors. Social media eliminates this
professional/personal line and simply puts our thoughts open to everyone to perceive in whatever
light they wish. Examples of questionable acts and the way in which they prevent individuals
from receiving job offers has become a company’s greatest tool in determining how to perceive
potential candidates. This should demonstrate more than ever, the importance of keeping a clean
online image. Although I will not divulge deeper into this topic for this paper, I found the
information from the article found at Monster College very frightening. The next form of social

media which I will discuss is that of the negative image a company can receive through
webpages established by union officials to solidify their rights to organized labor.
Honeywell is one of the top 100 companies in the World, a fact with which its employees
well know. Understanding this, along with incidents of unfavorable treatment towards individual
locals in recent years, the companies employees have decided to solidify and create a universal
union across all plants throughout the World. This would allow the employees to create a fair
playing field regardless of where Honeywell establishes residence. This is primarily being
displayed through a Facebook page which not only enables employees to post current concerns,
but also to share information in a way which is similar to that of the companies Intranet.

discussing safety concerns at different plants to discussing CEO Dave Cote directly. There is
however a concern with company retribution as individuals being identified in supportive photos
are being investigated for unbecoming conduct. The next part of this paper will discuss the
valuable “Like” button found on almost every social media application (Facebook Developers,
2013).
Very few people today are not connected with a social media site in which they
receive news from others pages. Businesses have realized this and have started their own news
feeds which can be followed by individuals simply by pressing “The Like Symbol” located on
their page. In my opinion, this is an ingenious form of commercializing as all that is required is
to gain one person’s interest to view your webpage. If the information is stimulating, then the
internet becomes an instantaneous advertisement based on the concept of word of mouth.
Friends tend to have similar tastes, and this function allows them to share their interests with

others. The next part of this paper will be to discuss the ethical decision behind some of these
actions.
Ethical decisions cannot be truly broken down as right or wrong. In my opinion, ethical
decisions can truly be described best through the children’s animated film Mega Mind.
(MegaMind (2/2011) Although that might not seem as a very professional choice to describe
ethics, In my opinion, the underlying theme is that the main character Professor MegaMind
demonstrates that labels cannot be placed upon individuals as different circumstances create
different ethical results. The end results being that public perception changes with a “what have
you done for me lately?” system. The next portion of this paper will discuss the advantages of
being able to search job advertisements through central databases such as Monster,
CareerBuilder, or even an individual State’s directory.
In today’s economical market, many companies are finding it cost effective to outsource
the process of finding potential employees. Aerotek, a staffing agency, has contacted me
personally on four different occasions simply from my posting of my resume. The State of
Delaware, notorious for being lower in pay but providing better family benefits, allows you to
create a resume which they keep on file as well as the option to browse all State openings (State
of Delaware (n.d.). This enables employees looking to hire on with the State the opportunity to
view what they are qualified for. The next part of this paper will be the summary in which all of
the information that has previously been discussed will be revisited and combined to explain the
way in which social media is forever changing the business world.

Potential employees now have the opportunity to locate careers all across the World and
businesses, both public and private, are able to release controlled press releases to targeted

audiences. Friends are able to freely discuss new and exciting inventions and ideas simply by
pressing a single button, and companies are able to screen their employees simply through their
social media history. With all of these new technologies and the sudden rush of information
available, it is very hard to predict where the world of business will be in several years. It is my
personal dream that businesses will no longer be able to hide questionable actions which will
take any chance of unethical decision making out of their agendas.
