• Are you easily overwhelmed by bright lights, strong smells, coarse fabrics,
or sirens nearby?
• Do you get rattled when you have a lot to do in a short amount of time?
• Have you ever been told that you’re too sensitive and should just “take
things easier”?
You actually might be a highly sensitive person!
Test: http://www.anastasia.tips/highly-sensitive-person-test.html
What is High
Sensitivity?
• This trait is genetically determined (inherited)
• Serves the purpose of survival of species
• Observed in 15-20% of human population and
higher animals
• Both men and women are highly sensitive, and…
• There are ≈1.4 Billion sensitive people!
Who’s a Highly
Sensitive
Person?
 Depth of processing
 Overstimulation
 Emotional responsivity/empathy
 Sensitive to subtleties
How are HSPs
different?
 Thrive in POSITIVE atmosphere more than others (and are more affected
by negative)
 More intuitive & empathetic
 More aware of what’s around/more conscious (more active insula)
 Have a big picture/holistic perspective & great at synthesizing information
 Process information deeper and notice subtleties
 Able to look beyond their cultural expectations to how things “really are”
 Get exhausted/sick faster
 Must feel fulfilled
Dealing with
sensitive
people
 They aren’t “drama queens” & can be introverts or extraverts
 Might seem timid, but are actually processing information
 Need autonomy, fair play and emotional support
 Collaboration, not pressurizing
 Respect their boundaries (space, music, smells etc)
 Great at understanding complex tasks and “connecting the dots”
 Will make great relationship managers
 Are your best advisors, but need encouragement
 Unhappy with cold sales, time pressure and competition
 Get overwhelmed easier & have more stress-related issues
Being an HSP.
Where are you
on this scale? The key to a successful career for an HSP is being
able to control as many aspects of your
environment as you can
Overstimulated
/You are unable
to control your
environment
Comfortable/
You have full
control over your
environment
Managing your
sensitivity if
you are an HSP
 Time to breath in and out
 Positive like-minded emotionally stable people around is a must
 Be in the nature
 Non-competitive environment
 Coping strategies include diet, regular exercise, spiritual/relaxation
practices techniques, clear boundaries
 Some structure, but not too rigid (i.e. daily rituals)
 Avoid overthinking
 Recognize sensitivity has an advantage (but don’t tell others directly
about it, expecting them to change their behaviour)
