Packington Working Conditions
Along with the other hundreds of thousands workers in Packington, I experience the gruesome working conditions first hand.
When I first arrived in Chicago with my extended family, I acquired the labor of painting advertisements on cans of meat,
which was a job that paid me well. Most aspects in my life were going favorably well until the painting factory I worked for
pressured their workers to paint cans quickly causing such an extraordinary amount of cans, the factory temporarily shut
down. Once the supply of cans were running low, the factory reopened, but my wages were noticeably lower. Because I am
invictus, I protested that I was being cheated out of a portion of my wages, which only led to me being fired. After a
miserable month of being jobless and searching for anyway I could ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If we try to change our working futures as individuals, we will never have the best lives we are capable of having, but if we
unite as a union to stand up for what we believe in, we can successfully, positively define our futures. Without the union, the
working citizens will always be treated like animals, but with the union, workers can one day be treated appropriately. One
way in which the union will improve workers lives is by giving benefits, which means a worker take a day off of work
without getting fired. This also means if someone happened to get hurt on the job, they could take as much time off as they
needed, without their position being replaced. Furthermore, the union will secure workers with less working hours, so they
have more time to spend with family and doing personal interests. Along with these examples of what the union will do, it
will provide numerous other benefits not mentioned. Together, if we unite as one, we can create a higher quality and
optimistic working future through the

For me to have a nicely landscaped yard, I would have to cut down trees, and move bushes, and make hills where there are
valleys and plant grass where there s dirt.... or so I thought. The thing is, your home improvement project this summer will
cost you a lot less money if you work with what your yard already has going for it! So what does this mean? It means, use
the natural landscape of your yard to create your home improvement project. Believe it or not, natural and existing landscape
in your yard can even give you ideas for what to do as a project. Step 1. First, you should go out and look at your yard. What
is the natural landscape? By this, I mean what does your yard look like now? This would include hills, trees, bushes, grass,
places where there is just dirt, etc. But, it would also include a pavement that has already been placed in your yard, a garage
or shed in your yard, etc. You need to get an idea of everything that is there. Step 2. What is it that you want to do with the
yard? What landscape ideas do you have? Think of your dream landscape. Are you looking to create some new paths and
walkways? Do you want to have some type of fountain or something with water like a waterfall? Do you want a patio in your
new landscape? Do you want a swing? This is where you decide what your home improvement project for the summer might
consist of. Step 3. Now, you need to generate some creative ideas for the existing landscape. This is the fun phase. You can
come up with an idea, no matter how big or small, expensive or not. If you look at the yard in the picture for this article, it
has a small hill/ incline about half way up the yard. At this point in the yard, there is a slope and then the rest of the yard is on
higher ground. A great landscaping idea for this would be to do some digging and make the slope upright, and put in a
retaining wall the whole way across where the yard goes from one

The Pros And Cons Of Henrietta Lacks
Are scientific advancements worth dehumanizing humans? Henrietta Lacks was a black woman from Roanoke Virginia who
s cells allowed some of the greatest medical advancements of all time. In 1951, when Henrietta was only 31 years old, she
learned she had cervical cancer after she found a lump in her cervix. She then went to Johns Hopkins Hospital to seek
treatment and died just a few months later. On the early stages of testing cancer treatments pouches of radium would be sown
near the tumor to try to cleanse the area but it would just make it worse. The pouches were called a Brack plaques, after
Hopkins doctor who invented them and oversaw Henrietta s radium treatment. He would later die of cancer, most likely
caused by his regular exposure ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The scientist working on the HeLa case changed her name and just took the first two letters of each word. This was
completely legal and even to this day it s still legal as long as the real person s name is changed. Henrietta s family was poor
and was not able to receive proper education. So when they learned of her mother s cells being used for testing they believed
her mother was cloned and millions of her were running around. Deborah, Henrietta s youngest daughter, beloved one day
she could bump into her mother on the street. But I tell you one thing, I don t want to be immortal if it mean living forever,
cause then everybody else just die and get old in front of you while you stay the same, and that s just sad. Then she smiled.
But maybe I ll come back as some HeLa cells like my mother, that way we can do good together out there in the world. (3)
This quote from Deborah jus helps prove that she didn t understand that her mother was no longer alive and it was just some
cells. This is a tragedy because she doesn t deserve to believe her mother has thousands of clones walking around. So
although Deborah didn t understand what was happening until much later when a doctor helped to explain it to her, she was
still trying to find a connection with her mother. No one deserves to not know about their

Sexism In The Film Industry
The film industry is one of the most prevalent industries in today s society and, as such, produces large numbers of content
every year. This content is indicative of larger systems of power and oppression and is filled with many different instances of
sexism.
Between 19995 and 2005, about 90% of films made were teenages films (Behm Morawitz and Mastro, pg 134). In this
specific genre, female characters were much more likely to engage in socially aggressive behaviors like spreading rumors or
using the silent treatment. They were also more likely to be rewarded for such behaviors than their male counterparts (behm
Morawitz and Mastro, pg 136). When considering that the majority of movies released during this time frame depicted
females being ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since the film industry is already a very gendered space, women have to work twice as hard to keep their job because they do
not want to be considered whiners or emotional, words that their male coworkers never have to be worried about. Careers in
the film industry are also a lot shorter for women because of the societal ideas around women aging. People tend to judge
women more harshly as they age than they do with a man of the same age. In fact, many consider a woman to be in her prime
at a much younger age than men. Many also believe that woman s attractiveness decreases much faster as she ages than a
man (De Pater, Judge, and Scott, pg 410). While women manage to breakthrough in the film industry, they still face a large
number of obstacles that their male colleagues will never

The Pros And Cons Of Social Stereotypes
Stereotype threat is a social phenomenon where a member of a negatively stereotyped group performs poorly when reminded
of that stereotype (Beilock, Jellison, Rydell, McConnell, Carr, 2006). For example, previous studies have shown that when
primed with a negative stereotype African Americans perform worse on intellectual tasks (Steele, Aronson, 1995), and
women perform worse at math (Spencer, Steele, Quinn, 1999). The main component of stereotype threat is that it impairs
working memory (Schmader, Forbes, Johns, 2008). Working memory is a short term memory system that is involved in the
control, regulation, and active maintenance of a limited amount of information with immediate relevance to the task at hand
(Miyake Shah, 1999). So essentially as one works on a task, working memory keeps all the important information ready for
quick access, which is crucial for performance in almost every domain. Previous studies have shown that working memory
capacity is a direct mediator between stereotype threat and impaired mental performance (Schmader, Johns, 2003). At a
cognitive level, working memory is a limited capacity resource that can become depleted if it is attending to multiple
domains. If depleted there is less capacity available to control a task s execution and information processing demands
(Schmader, Johns, 2003). Many different studies have contested how it is that stereotype threat impairs performance. For
example, in Steele and Aronson s

Essay on The History of Music Industry
In the past, music has been a costly business, where only people with a lot of money could enter and be successful in the
industry. Changes in the music industry coupled with new computer technology have made it much easier for people without
a lot of money to compose, produce, and distribute their creation. In order to get a better understanding of the music industry
in comparison to 2014, one has to look at its history. There were many things that happened from the 1980 s onward, and
they brought on a significant impact towards the music industry. Development in computer technology has also made a big
impression on music. Many things within these fields have enabled artists to connect with their fans in a way they couldn t

There were many changes in the business of music records from the 1980s onward. For example, the Telecommunications
Act of 1996 law was passed. This enabled a free for all in for the record companies and granted them the ability to compete
with anyone in the market. What ended up happening was the companies bought each other left and right until there were 5
or 6 big companies that ran everything. The record industry controlled music production, distribution, and airplay on the
radio. Radio started out on the AM frequencies, then later the FM higher fidelity stations. The only way to get music through
to the masses feasibly was to go through the highly selective record companies because they were the only ones who could
mass produce music. To distribute, first they sold music on gramophone records, an early distribution medium made of
processed shellac from the lac bug. Then they moved on to track tapes, vinyl records, compact cassettes, and eventually CDs.
Emerging digital Era: 1980 s And Beyond:
Gradually after this event, the medium for music had changed, from various types of analog grooved discs, to various types
of magnetic tape based reels and cartridges, to compact discs, or CDs, to digital downloads.
An early revolution in music portability was created by a device called the Walkman cassette player. This device was based

Pearl Harbor was the heart of the Pacific Naval Fleet, due to the Japanese that took Pearl Harbor by surprise resulting in
devastation. When the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor it brought upon The United States entering World War 2. For months,
the Japanese planned the attack on pearl harbor, gathering highly detailed information on everything they could. They gained
information about the weak points of the Battleships, where they held their ammo cashes , the thickest parts of their armor,
and the thinnest. They got exactly where they were going to be located. For months, they trained their already highly

The Firewall Essay
The Firewall
WHAT IS A NETWORK FIREWALL?
A firewall is a system or group of systems that enforces an access control policy between two or more networks. The means
by which this control is accomplished varies widely, but in principle, the firewall is a pair of mechanisms, one that blocks
traffic and one that permits traffic. Some firewalls emphasize blocking traffic, while others emphasize permitting traffic. The
most important thing to recognize about a firewall is that it implements an access control policy. If you don t know what kind
of access you want to permit or deny, or you let someone else or some product configure a firewall based on judgment other
than yours, that entity is making policy for your whole organization.
WHY ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Generally, firewalls are configured to protect against unauthenticated interactive logins from the outside world. This
protection, more than anything, helps prevent vandals from logging on to machines on your network. More elaborate
firewalls block traffic from the outside to the inside but permit users on the inside to communicate freely with the outside.
The firewall can protect you against any type of network borne attack if you unplug it.
Firewalls are also important because they are a single point where you can impose security and auditing. If someone attacks a
computer system by dialing in with a modem, tracing the perpetrator is impossible. In contrast, the firewall can act as an
effective phone tap and tracing tool. Firewalls also provide an important logging and auditing function, summarizing topics
such as the kinds and amount of traffic that passed through it and how many attempted break ins occurred recently.
WHAT CAN T A FIREWALL PROTECT AGAINST?
Firewalls can t protect against attacks that don t go through the firewall. Many corporations that connect to the Internet are
very concerned about proprietary data leaking out of the company. Unfortunately, a magnetic tape exports data just as
effectively as the Internet. Many organizations whose management is terrified of Internet connections have no coherent
policy about protecting dial in access via modems. It s silly to build a steel door six feet thick

Essay on The Concept of Transformational Leadership
The concept of transformational leadership relies on appropriate leadership approaches for mission success. AFDD 1 1
describes three leadership competencies: person, people/team, organization Effective leaders (tactical level) need to build
face to face and interpersonal relationships that directly influence behavior and values. Effective leaders (operational level)
need to build team dynamics for small groups and squadrons. Effective leaders (strategic level) need to build strategy and
provide direction in a broad spectrum. Leadership at the tactical level is built on personal interaction. This type of leadership
is face to face and encourages adherence to policy and procedures. This leadership also takes into account the human element

Olds believed improve living conditions would help improve moral. He was willing to use resources to affect the quality of
life for his airmen. This willingness to improve quality of life enhanced his stature as a transformational leader. The Fighter
Pilot leadership focused on team first. Olds was the father figure. His men knew he cared. His leadership was showing them
you can and they will follow you. Olds led his team by protecting them. He trusted their decision in combat and provided top
cover if leadership ever questioned their decisions. Olds was not a leader to through a pilot under the bus. In fact, Olds would
place the focus on himself if there were an error in combat. Yet, he would give praise to pilots for successful missions. In
addition, Olds cared for the team when there was a tragedy in combat. He understood the mission had to continue, but he also
understood the grief of his team. His willingness to care during tragedy remains one of his strongest transformational traits.
Olds was not a cold or stubborn leader. Olds was a fighter pilot with the ability to lead others. He understood there were
other critical areas necessary for a successful mission. Mission success included people success. The motto, Lead, follow, or

United States Doctrine For Joint Operations
In July 1943, Allied Forces launched the largest joint, combined operation of World War II to date. American, British and
Canadian forces attacked the island of Sicily in an effort to gain a foothold on the European continent and protect the
Mediterranean lines of communication. Although the Allies were successful in pushing the Axis powers out of Sicily,
Operation Husky demonstrated that Allied forces were not adequately prepared for joint operations. In particular, and based
on current doctrine for joint operations, the Allies failed to effectively utilize the principles of Mission Command and also
failed to realize the full potential of the Joint Force by inadequately integrating elements of the Joint Force into a cohesive
organization. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With this backdrop, the British drew the primary role in the invasion with the Americans relegated to protecting their flank.
To add confusion and lack of clarity in the plan, General Alexander did not plan for any objectives beyond the initial
invasion, preferring to wait until forces were ashore. This failure of leadership on the part of Alexander and lack of decisive
guidance left the field commanders without clear objectives and contributed to the mistrust of both their commander as well
as each other. Guidance as simple as locate the German Army in your zone and destroy them would have contributed much
to alleviate the lack of trust, at least with the higher echelon of command. As it was, joint force leadership failed to give clear
guidance that, in addition to negatively contributing to issues of trust, clouded the field commanders understanding of the
battlefield.
As a primary tenet of Mission Command, understanding allows the field commander to assess what is happening on the
battlefield and make rapid decisions on the best way to carry out the commander s intent. Without clear and concise guidance
on objectives, opportunities to exploit advantages as they arose were lost and significant time was wasted reorienting forces
to adhere to guidance that was not current based on conditions. Both General s Eisenhower and Alexander failed to identify
the objectives and

Methods Of Data Collection
Methods of Data Collection Obtaining fake news data sets can be very challenging due to three reasons. First, deciding
whether a news post on social media is fake news or not is highly subjective. Second, Fake news stories and fraudulent
accounts are routinely taken down by Social Media platforms like Twitter and Facebook, which makes it hard to get
historical data about fake news posts. So, we have used a data set compiled by buzzfeed, where more than 2000 facebook
posts were analyzed and labeled based on their truthfulness. To prepare this dataset, BuzzFeed News selected three large
hyperpartisan Facebook pages each from the right and from the left, as well as three large mainstream political news pages.
All nine pages have earned ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There were 1,145 posts from mainstream pages, 666 from hyperpartisan right wing pages, and 471 from hyper partisan left
wing pages. The difference in the number of posts for each group is a result of them publishing with different frequencies.
Data Collection with Facebook API The best way to access, collect and store data from social media platforms is generally
through Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) [Lomborg and Bechmann 2014]. APIs are easy to use interfaces that are
usually accompanied by documentation that+ describes how to request the data that one is interested in. They are designed to
be accessed by other applications as opposed to web interfaces which are designed for people; APIs provide a set of well
defined methods that an application can invoke to request data. For instance, in a social media platform, one may want to
retrieve all data posted by a specific user or all the posts containing a certain keyword. Facebook provides a documented
API9 with a set of software development kits (SDKs) for multiple programming languages and platforms that make it easy to
develop applications with its data. Similar to Twitter API, Facebook also requires registering an application10 to generate the
keys needed to access the API. In contrast to Twitter, most of the content posted by Facebook users is private and therefore
there is no access to specific content posted, unless the users are friends with the authenticated account.

Essay On Muscle Contraction
The Correlation between Eccentric Strength and Agility in Male Field Sport Athletes.
There are three types of muscle contraction, isotonic, isometric and isokinetic. There are two isotonic contractions,
concentric and eccentric. A concentric contraction is a shortening of the muscle fibres, an example of this being a bicep curl
causing a concentric contraction on the biceps brachii causing the elbow to flex. An eccentric contraction is the opposite of
this. During an eccentric contraction as the muscle contracts the muscle fibres lengthen. An eccentric contraction is important
in deceleration where the quadriceps lengthen to slow down the limb. This type of contraction should transfer into agility as
athletes with greater eccentric strength ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Agility has been described as a rapid whole body movement with change of velocity or direction in response to a stimulus .
(Sheppard et al, 2006) This description identifies the inclusion of cognitive skills in determining agility. This definition
applies to open skills only. Open skills cannot be pre planned, however closed skills, such as sprinting or previously planned
changes of direction, can be planned in advance. This is very important in every field sport as the ability to react quickly and
allow the movements to match these reactions enhances performance. Many field sports require straight line running speed
but more often than not fast change of direction is a defining factor of an athlete s performance. Fast change of direction
speed and ability to make the right decision in a game situation makes for an excellent athlete.
Many tests have been designed to test for change of direction speed. The 5 0 5 test is a timed agility test using rapid 180
degree turns and straight line speed. The Illinois test is a timed agility test using straight line speed and many multi
directional changes. The Zig zag test is a good indication of multiple directional changes. It is a timed test where the athlete
must round cones set out in a figure 8.
Subjects used in this study were 10 male soccer players. The agility test that was chosen to best simulate this sport was the 5
0 5 agility test. This was due to the quick, snappy change

Robert Stinnett s The Pearl Harbour Deception
Robert Stinnett is a former sailor and served in the US Navy during World War II. The perspective that Robert Stinnett
presents regarding the Pearl Harbour attack which will be discussed within this report is that he believes, upon extensive
historical research, not only did FDR have prior knowledge of the impending Japanese attack on the US naval base Pearl
Harbour, he more consequently, allowed the attack to take place. One highly discussed reason why Robert Stinnett attained
this perspective regarding FDR s prior knowledge was due to the fact that FDR wanted to provoke the Japanese into an
attack, so that America could reciprocate with her own declaration of war. In an interview conducted on the AntiWar Radio

leaves us in debt, grants degrees that do not guarantee jobs or happiness, earns us only ordinary jobs that are not fulfilling;
jobs where we survive instead of thrive. When I went to high school, I spent a large amount of time studying subjects such as

Think about the times we are concern about our weight and we wished we had been taught to exercise and eat well, or times
we are down and we wished to learn meditate to better control our emotions. These are the real world problems that can
really hold us back in life, and directly influence our happiness and I thinks it is about the time to make these skills more
accessible to everyone. The point is, if someone wants to get good at math, then he studies math, or if he wants to get good at
science, he studies science and the same thing applies here. If you want to get good at relationships, you study relationships,
or if you want to get successful, then you need to study success. School is definitely necessary, but it is not complete.
Imagine an education that included the best of the current system, but at the same time, teaches you how to have healthier
relationships, be better lovers, a better parent, live healthier, and not just live a successful life, but a deeply meaningful and

Given these points, the big gap in our educational system today is the gap between what skills people truly need to learn to
live extraordinary lives and the amount of exposure they actually get to those skills. There is a way to fill this gap. Science
has proven that our minds have inevitable power to shape our lives and our happiness. Whether it is intentionally or

Persuasive Essay On Drinking In College
Miley Cyrus sings, Red cups and sweaty bodies everywhere, hands in the air like we don t care, cause we came to have so
much fun now. (as cited in Davis et al, 2013). As such an influential role model for many college students, Miley promotes
carless drinking in her hit song We Can t Stop . The rates of students who drink in college are very high and are leading to
further problems. As found on College Drinking Prevention.gov, According to the 2015 NSDUH, 58.0 percent of full time
college students ages 18 22 drank alcohol in the past month compared with 48.2 percent of other persons of the same age
(par. 1). College drinking in the United States is leading to an increase in alcohol related deaths, suicides, and academic
issues. To decrease the rate of unhealthy college drinking in the United States, the legal drinking age should either be
lowered, or the professors in the colleges and universities should make their students workloads heavier.
Unhealthy and irresponsible drinking taking place by college students is causing further issues in their lives. According to the
National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, the use of alcohol in a campus setting is a ritual that the students
consider an initiation to the start of their college careers. (par. 2). College drinking leads to other health and social problems
including deaths, suicides, academic issues, drug use. Studies by the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence
(2015) show that each year, more than 600,000 students between the ages of 18 and 24 are assaulted by another student who
has been drinking, 95% of all violent crime on college campuses involves the use of alcohol by the assailant, victim or both,
and 90% of acquaintance rape and sexual assault on college campuses involves the use of alcohol by the assailant, victim or
both. (Par. 16). College students, especially the ones consuming alcohol, are the main stakeholders in this situation. Whether
they are participating in the use of alcohol or not, it still affects them one way or another. Friends and family members are

Ok, thank you, bye Mom, love you! I hollered, already down the hall towards the door. I scooped up the ingredients to make
the slime, put it in my backpack, and ran out to get my bike. I opened the garage door and scooted my brother s big blue bike

some pink food coloring. She lightly squeezed the container, bright red liquid came bursting forth from the bottle. Carly
missed the bowl and got some on the counter, but there was already shaving cream everywhere so, I didn t say anything.
After I stirred the slime again, I put a pinch of corn starch and some contact solution into the mixture. It was now time for my
favorite part, the glitter! We poured a ton of glitter into the pink slime. Then, we mixed it and then kneaded it to fine dough.
Finally, it was time to play.
Carly and I squished, squashed, and scrunched our pink glitter slime.
Cassidy, catch. She told me, and I did. We threw our slime around for about 5 minutes. Until Carly chucked the slime at me
and instead of landing in my hands, it hit the ceiling. Carly and I couldn t stop laughing. We laughed until the slime fell
down. When it did it was surprisingly as hard as a rock.
Why is it so hard? I asked Carly
Oh She surprised turned to laughter again We added to much corn starch. Now the slime is hard! Then we started laughing
again, passing the pink glittering rock around like before.
We were having so much fun, I didn t notice the clock. 6:27!
Oh no! I frantically started packing my stuff. I have to be home at 6:30. Sorry Carly, thanks for making slime with me. Bye,

Cognitive Neuroscience Personal Statement
Growing up I was always underestimated by the people around me. It wasn t until late highschool until I started doing well in
school, which is where my motivation to prove people wrong fueled my efforts to succeed. College was when I started to
take pride in my achievements. I started with a major in Psychology, where courses like Cognition, Biopsychology and
Cognitive Neuroscience really caught my attention and fascinated me. Cognitive Neuroscience was one of my favorite
courses because we reviewed case studies of patients with neurological damage to see how brain mechanisms underlying
cognition were altered. I ll never forget learning about how damage to Broca s Area impacted generation of articulate speech.
I was so interested in learning about higher cognitive processes such as pattern recognition, memory and consciousness.
Classes like these led into picking up an additional major in Cognitive Science, which has given me perspective on human
perception, thinking and learning. The diversity in criteria in the Cognitive Science program caused me to become an
extremely well rounded student, incorporating the studies of Philosophy, Psychology, Linguistics, ... Show more content on

Psychology is something that I am passionate about, and there was no greater feeling than having more students come into
my review session relative to the previous one. I felt that I was the bridge between the professor and her students, being able
to tackle questions that students were confused about by breaking down complex information and presenting examples to
make topics more understandable to my peers. I loved that throughout this process I was strengthening my own
understanding of the material. This was something that I found myself excelling in, and this experience made me realize that

The Crime Rate Of Atlanta Essay
Did you know that someone is murdered every 60 seconds in the united states?
Atlanta was recently ranked October 2012 as the sixth most dangerous city in the United States among cities of more than
200,000 residents. According to Forbes the city has a violent crime rate of 1,433 per 100,000 and has experienced a violent
crime rate rise of six percent in 2011 and is currently increasing. Crime in Atlanta, Georgia is above the national median and
has been a major problem for the city since the middle 20th century. Atlanta has been known for high crime rates,
particularly property crime and homicides. Much of the city s crime, however, is centralized in most of its western
neighborhoods and scattered neighborhoods adjacent to Hartsfield Jackson International Airport. These include Grove Park,
Center Hill, and Bankhead, some of the most crime infested neighborhoods of Atlanta. This is alarming because Morehouse
college is literally less then ten minutes from all of these places. In just these three areas alone homicide is rated 20.5,
forcible rape is rated 33.2, robbery is rated 512.6, aggravated assault is rated 661.1, burglary is rated 1203.9, grand larceny
theft is rated 3631.0, motor vehicle theft is rated 912.5 and arson is rated 16.5 calculating to an disgusting overall rate of

Nursing Reflection on Pressure Sores Essay
Critical incident The aim of this reflection is to describe my personal experience in wound care and its management. Gibbs
(1988) reflective cycle has been adapted in order to provide structure to the reflection process. Description At the care home I
had to nurse many client s who had developed pressure sores. One particular wound stands out from the rest, it belonged to a
lady in her late 70 s who was immobile and suffers from incontinence and slight dementia. Her wound was extremely large
on her sacrum, black and very hard. At this point was extremely discoloured (black) but the skin was intact and only had a

I have learnt the importance of good communication and how it is essential for building trust. (Spouse et al 2008). I did feel a
little vulnerable however but experience gave me the confidence to give the correct level of information. I have learnt that I
need to show sensitivity and give the correct amount of information that was required to facilitate their reassurance.
Evaluation Although the situation was quite challenging, it provided me with some useful experiences for the future practice.
I understand that all institutions should have a policy for documenting the assessment of patients, including pressure ulcers
(Morison 2001). I have come to be familiar with the homes assessment policy using the Sterling Pressure Sore Severity Scale
and most importantly I have learned that by using a universal assessment tool it supports a systemic and consistent approach
to pressure ulcer evaluation. This therefore supporting continuity of care. I have significantly developed my skill in wound
care assessment and dressing, in developing this skill I now recognize the importance of documenting each dressing.
Morison (2001) supports this in saying that by detailing pressure ulcer assessment it provides a basis for deciding the
effectiveness of the current treatment. Conclusion Skin tears and pressure ulcers are frequently seen in the elderly and care

Unequal Pay Among Women
In the status quo, it is estimated that eighteen million women are left to live in poverty. (NWLC, 2014). This leads to women
struggling to make ends meet. It s important to raise awareness for those whose voices have been silenced due to their lower
status in society as they cannot be heard on their own. Many people tend to believe that both genders are equally exposed at
the risk of poverty. However, it is statistically proven that women have higher poverty rates due to unequal pay rates, low
paying occupations, a rise in divorce rates, and a growing number of single mothers from unplanned pregnancies.
Worldwide, women are likely to have unjust pay rates which is a significant reason for poverty among women. According to
the Institute for Women s Policy Research, women receive 80 cents for every dollar a man receives. (IWPR, 2015). Not only
does the difference in pay rates result in women receiving lower salaries than men, but it results in women having to
rationalize the low amount of money that they do receive. It is difficult to live in a world where resources are costly with a
low salary. According to the United Nations Statistics Division, ...consistent with other studies, men s average salary was
higher than women s average salary. (Barry A. Gerhart, 2015). This informs us of one of the reasons as to why women have a
higher poverty rate. The unequal pay has been a strong issue debated in current society by many people. However, there has

The Environmental Consequences And Effects Of Climate Change
Climate change is a serious environmental issue which influences changes in temperature, humidity, air quality, precipitation,
and land surface wetness across the globe (Institute of Medicine [IOM], 2011). Small changes in these factors can snowball
into larger and potentially disastrous outcomes in climate and weather. For example, the 1.5°F increase in the average global
temperature during the past century has been accompanied by serious environmental consequences such as an increase in
floods, droughts, heavy rainfall, and more frequent and intense heat waves (Environmental Protection Agency [EPA], n.d.).
Over the next century, the increase in the Earth s average temperature is predicted to rise by another 0.5 to 8.6°F (EPA, n.d.).
The risk for additional severe changes to the Earth s system is projected to increase, as well as the potential harm to the
health of the global population (World Health Organization [WHO], 2009). One way through which this is expected to occur
is through climate change affecting the indoor environment by creating favorable conditions for the growth of mold,
ultimately harming inhabitants respiratory health (IOM, 2011). According to a report by the Institute of Medicine s
Committee on the Effect of Climate Change on Indoor Air Quality and Public Health, climate change induced alterations to
the outdoor environment are likely to affect the indoor environment, and as a result, the health of its inhabitants (2011).
Climate change has increased the frequency and intensity of heavy rainfall and hurricane events, leading to more breakdown
of buildings, leaks and infiltration of water into the indoor environment, and flooding (IOM, 2011). The issue of indoor
dampness and flooding lies in the creation of favorable conditions for the growth of mold. Moisture level has been shown to
be the primary factor responsible for indoor mold growth (IOM, 2011). Exposure to mold is associated with various
respiratory symptoms, such as coughing, wheezing, asthma exacerbation, and shortness of breath in vulnerable individuals
(IOM, 2011). This combination of climate change and the subsequent increase in mold growth and exposure raises concerns
for health, particularly the health of those with existing

Essay about Feminist Ideas the Screwball Comedy Film Genre
The Screwball comedy is a film genre that found its way onto the screens in the early 1930s and lasted till the early 1940s.
They were a consequence of the newly adapted censorship law in 1934 that restricted addressing adult content on screen.
They therefore incorporated more comedic and creative ways of symbolizing topics such as sex and homosexuality.
Screwball comedies were mainly based on plots that had conflict between social classes as their many premise and always
had a happy ending which was almost always marriage. This consistent maintenance of the status quo of marriage is a major
aspect of feminism depicted in screwball comedies (Heather 26). While advocating for marriage, screwball comedies

In the first and most typical screwball comedy, It Happened One Night, Ellie Andrews, an heiress from a wealthy family falls
in love with Peter, a recently fired reporter. This is an example of such interaction between the social classes that screwball

King Westley, who does not enjoy the approval of her father. While her defiance against her father does not highlight
feminism in the context of marriage, it is perhaps a sign of the growing level of outward expression by women which
ultimately fuels feminism. Ellie Andrews soon loses her luggage and runs out of money. She then meets Peter, the recently
fired reporter. Peter offers her help and in exchange He gets to write her story. She agrees to this deal and their journey of
several days begins. They grow closer as each day passes which leads to Ellie declaring her love for Peter. As a result of this,
Ellie is depicted as an aggressor which highlights a trait consistent with feminism. Ellie wakes up one morning alone as a
result of a failed romantic gesture on Peter s part and concludes that she has been abandoned. Defeated and alone, she calls

No Exit Sartre
Psychological suffering versus physical torture is one of the central themes in No Exit by French playwright Jean Paul Sartre.
Sartre s famous quote that hell is other people (45) is illustrated through the interactions among Garcin, Inez and Estelle.
Through psychological suffering the characters self destructive flaws are revealed which ultimately emphasizes how each of
them are responsible for their own fate. The characters have the freedom of will to help redeem each other but choose not to.
To subtly reinforce the theme, even the style of the play is psychologically wearing on the audience. Sartre uses terse, tense
dialogue, and boring repetitive sentences, deliberately irritating the audience, as shown in the quotations below. ... Show

This is a demonstration of how people cause their own suffering. Similarly, in the play s context of World War II, many
seemingly normal people chose to kill others, even children, when they did not have to. People in France allowed Nazis to
define them under their occupation, which is contrary to Sartre s self deterministic philosophy. Garcin s misery and suffering
is caused by his self destructive cowardice and cruelty, leading to his desertion and abuse of his wife. He tries to convince the
others that he was a courageous pacifist, yet Inez mocks him: What was your real motive? . . . [F]ear and hatred and all the

Of course, if you are not into going fast and jumping in the motocross races there are different kinds of races. The first actual
motocross race was held in the late 60s. One other kind of race is an enduro race. In these races you have to go long distances
and usually travel at night. Another race is a blackwater race. In these races you need a big bike, at least 250cc. You go
through rivers, thick forests, and small obstacles like fallen logs. The last race is called trials. In these races you must have

the bikes have no seat!

Nathaniel Mackey s Bedouin Hornbook Essay
Nathaniel Mackey s Bedouin Hornbook
A Bedouin is a nomad and a nomad a wanderer. Nathaniel Mackey seems to wander far and away in his Bedouin Hornbook,
a series of fictional letters addressed to an Angel of Dust and signed by the ambiguous N. N. interprets passages of
improvisation, analyzing others musical expression in surprising detail to the point that his unquestioning sincerity and self
assurance are almost laughable. That N. can glean meaning from music in such a direct and certain manner is problematic
because his tone implies that there is only one correct interpretation of music. In addressing the issue of how music conveys
meaning, Mackey seems to wander in two disparate directions. After asserting each seemingly ... Show more content on

By employing deceptively similar language in these instances, Mackey sets up a parallel between music and speech that he
uses to make his point about how meaning is conveyed through art.
Aunt Nancy not only challenges Lambert s interpretation of the music, but by extension, every unchallenged musical
interpretation N. offers throughout the novel. But Aunt Nancy faces the same problem as N. when articulating her complaint.
While asserting an alternate interpretation, she assumes a tone that claims hers as singularly true, which seems hypocritical.
Since Aunt Nancy commits the same contradiction as N., Mackey foreshadows a reconciliation of our understanding of that
contradiction.
Mackey first uses the argument between Aunt Nancy and Lambert to assert that improvisation itself is the goal of music,
rather than a device used to carry a separate meaning. The dispute arises when the group begins to dissect Lambert s solo.
While Djamilaa, Penguin and N. are enthusiastic about the piece, Aunt Nancy sits sulking. When prompted, she divulges a
resentment of the implied attack on her regarding her increased involvement with the violin at the congas expense (132).
Lambert disagrees and defends his playing, saying that he was genuinely sorry that she d chosen to take the questions his
piece had raised in that way, though he welcomes the opportunity to make

My Online Shopping Experience On Why Individuals Are Not...
An essay based on my online shopping experience on why individuals are not rational
Introduction
The essay will from my example show that individual including myself are not rational when making decisions. I will be
using a diverse range of theories from the standard economic model to explain how the decision made during these
experiences showed a rational behaviour and how it violates the standard economic model. Behavioural Economics
according to is the combination of psychology and economics that investigates what happens in markets in which some of
the agents display human limitations and complications. The major theories that I will be discussing for the standard
economic model will be (Smith, 1976. Schiffman, 2007. Lowenstein et al, 1991) to understand the economic model and its
assumptions on individual rationality. Behavioural economics theory helped explains my observation from my online
shopping experience and irrationality of individuals when it involves decision making.
Main body
Standard economic theory assumes that people are rational, act based on full information have stable preferences and always
maximize utility. The main accomplishment of Smith was to put forward as the central theme of economics the logical
analysis of the behaviour of individual agents pursuing their self interest under conditions of competition (Smith. 1976). The
standard economic model assumes that people are perfectly rational, maximising decision makers when faced with a problem

The Field Communication ( Nfc ) Standards
INTRODUCTION Near Field Communication (NFC) standards were first developed by the NFC forum, which was founded
by a consortium of Nokia, Sony and Philips in the year 2004. It is a wireless communication standard that uses magnetic
induction to fill the physical space between devices in close proximity to one another in order to exchange data, usually in
the 13.56 MHz band. Since it is closely spaced (less than 10 cm), it is more secure than other wireless tools like Wi Fi and
Bluetooth. There are two types of NFC devices: Active devices have their own power source can read information from an
NFC tag and respond to other devices, and passive NFC devices, which lack the power source and can only send data. Since
the data being exchanged is often sensitive credit card numbers and medical data, for example NFC encrypts the data and
sends it over a unique, secure channel. (Chris, 2014). Furthermore, NFC enabled device can operate in three different modes.
They are reader/writer mode, peer to peer mode, and card emulation mode.
In Reader/Writer mode the NFC device is capable of reading NFC enabled tag types, such as a tag embedded in an NFC
smart poster.
In Peer to Peer mode, two NFC devices can exchange data. For example, you can share Bluetooth or Wi Fi link set up
parameters or you can exchange data such as virtual business cards or digital photos.
In Card Emulation mode, the NFC device appears to an external reader much the same as a traditional contactless

Everyday Life Sociology
All interpretation of our world is based on previous experiences of it both our own and others. It is given to us when we are
born to experience and interpret. The world of everyday life, or everyday social world, is an intersubjective world that
existed long before our birth, experienced and interpreted by Others, our predecessors, as an organised world. (Schutz, 1962
1996: 208) This world isn t a private world, it is common to all of us, and provides the scene and object of our actions and
interactions. Our everyday social world is shaped by our actions, our actions are influenced by the environment we exist in.
Understanding this world gives us a chance to view how personal and interpersonal relationships intersect with relations of
power and broader social identities. (Robin Overholtzer, 2015). The concept of everyday life in central to humanity. People

Importance Of Hard Work Essay
You need to work hard so you can have a better future. This is something my parents have put in my head for as long as I can

them, being immigrants from the Philippines was never easy for them. They sometimes felt looked down upon and they

achieve and do more. My parents always found education very important in my childhood. They have always implemented to
do my best at school so I can have a better future. They knew that the only way that I can do anything in life is doing good in
school. As a result I have grown to care a lot about my grades, and how to make my work better. I personally started caring
about my grades when I was in fourth grade. She was unquestionably gifted in language arts and she graded that subject
harder. I would be getting a lot of B s in my writing essays. This is when I realized language arts is my weakness. Sometimes
it is hard looking for weaknesses. Nobody likes to admit they have flaws. It s hard sometimes to fix flaws, goals and hard
work is needed. Yet, every step to reach the goal is needed.

Life After High School
Life after high school can be one of the most difficult decisions in your life. And it is not just one decision, the college you
choose can alter many aspects of your life. When you attempt to choose a school to go to you have to take into consideration
many things. You have to know the major you want to go for, the minors, location, tuition cost, et cetera. I have so many
options for the next step in my life. For this paper, however, I have narrowed it down to two options: Miami University and
the University of Cincinnati. It is a close race between the two, but based on my recent visit to Miami going there for college
would be the better option for my future. Money is an issue for mostly all college students, everyone is always worried about
the debt they will obtain by going through schooling and how they are going to pay it off. Unless someone can get a full ride
scholarship, you are going to have to owe money to the university you go to. My solution is that I will be making enough
money after college to pay it off pretty quickly so I do not have to owe too much money throughout my life. Miami tuition is
around $15,000 and room and board is around $13,000 so the total is somewhere close to $28,000 ( 2017 Cohort ).
Cincinnati tuition is $11,000 and room and board can be from $11,000 to $13,000, so between $22,000 and $24,000 would
be the total ( UC Facts ). I intend to get scholarships through various companies or associations to bring the total price per
year down.

How Social Class Affects Health
All over the world status hierarchy and social class are a common concept of how well we live our lives, however they affect
our lives more than we think. Social class can affect many things such as education, opportunities presented to us, economic
factors, and even our health. Recently socioeconomic status effects on health has become a more popular topic of discussion
but is nothing new to researchers. Research on socioeconomic inequalities in health in the UK has a long history. In the early
part of the 20th century the British government introduced questions on occupation in the decennial census. This allowed
researchers to examine health outcomes by social class. (Knott, Dr Laurence). Researchers have discovered social class can

Social class is determined by many things such as status, culture, employment, background, and wealth, along with other
factors. Being in a certain class affects your health and even the type of health care you receive. Males in a higher social
class live on average 9 years longer than males in more deprived areas or lower social classes and are in good health for 85
percent of their lives compared to 70 percent (Knott, Dr Laurence..). I believe social class affects health because of things
such as living conditions, lack of resources for health care and education, and that lower class people prefer and are fine with
less healthy lifestyles. People in higher classes are usually very successful and motivated in most aspect of life while people
in lower classes may not be. I don t think there is much we can do to resolve this problem as most of these problems are
dependent on each person s life choices and not much will change if we cannot fix this problem. Why social class has such a
big on health will always be a question and I dont think theres an exact answer for it.
There are believed to be many reason why social class affects health. One of these reasons are the bad habits or addictions
that are associated with the lower class. One of the biggest habits or addictions most commonly associated with the lower
class is smoking. An article from the Journal of Health Care for the Poor and Underserved (Levinson, Arnold H. )Is

The Old Roman Calendar
On the old Roman Calendar, New Year s Day was originally celebrated on March 15, but was switched to January 1 in the
year 153 BC after the date was used for choosing the two roman consuls due to military reasons. It was customary during the
7th century for pagans from Flanders and the Netherlands to exchange gifts. This practice was deplored by Saint Eligius. He
had not also warned the pagans to not make little figures of old women or little deer nor should they set tables at night or
supply more drinks than was needed. The Feast of the Circumcision of Christ is celebrated by many churches, believing that
Jesus Christ was born into the world on December 25. Jewish tradition states his circumcision would have occurred on the

He felt that everyone would benefit greatly by questioning everything. In 1887 he wrote On the Genealogy of Morality to

essays that question and critique the value of our moral judgements. The first and the one I will focus on, being Good and

different types of groups, the first group being the militaristic and political group, which he has deemed the masters. The
masters view good as having the characteristics of strength, power, freedom and achievement. The second group being the
slaves, which is the group that is controlled by the masters. The slaves viewing good as having the characteristics of
sympathy, charity, forgiveness, and humility. The characteristics that the masters deemed good, like strength and power, were
used as sources for fear against the slaves and thus were deemed evil. He feels that the slaves deem the things the masters
view as good as evil because of the resentment they have. It is men of a noble rank that Nietzsche determines has the master
morality. These are powerful, healthy and courageous men that are essentially barbaric to those they claim to be beneath
them.

Special Populations In Education
This research paper is parallel with my thematic core and curriculum because it based on inadequately youth which falls
under Special Populations. Special populations in education are groups of people with needs that require special
consideration and attention in an educational setting. Students can belong to more than one special population at a time.
While no two students will ever have identical needs, awareness of the special populations in education will help you
understand the challenges your students may be facing and develop ways of meeting them (Online). Passionate to be an
advocate for the inadequately youth, I need to be knowledgeable and aware of the statistics language and social skills have
upon economically disadvantaged students.

Secularism In Australia Essay
The increase in pluralism and materialism within the world, alongside the societies pursuit of individualism and
dissatisfaction with traditional religions gave rise to the formation of secularism. (Woodhead, 2016) Secularism involves two
theorems. The first being the strict separation of the church and state and the second is the equality before the law provided
to all different religions and beliefs (National Secular Society, 2016). This trend is most evident through the significant
increase in numbers of the Australian population in the no religion category from 0.3% in 1947 to 0.8% in 1966 and to 16.6%
by 1996. By 2006, it had risen to 18.7% and by 2011 it increased to 22.30%. (NSW Government, Department of education,
2015) (Australian Bureau of Statistics, 2013)
The rise of secularism challenged the identities of religious traditions, which called upon various responses. Non religious
spiritualties were strengthened through the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ecumenical movements were formed as an institutional response in order to enhance this pursuit of peace and understanding,
and as a mutual Christian reaction to modernity. This is due to the different reactions within each sect towards secularism for
example, Conservative Roman Catholicism and Orthodoxy were the most resistant, liberalism were the most co operative,
Evangelicalism and Charismatic Christianity both opposed some aspects of modernity whilst accommodated others.
(Woodhead, 2016) Therefore, ecumenism was a result in settling the uprising issues. For instance, the Uniting Church of
Australia was established on the 22nd of June 1977, where congregations of the Methodist church of Australasia, the
Presbyterian church of Australia and the congregational union of Australia came together under the basis of union. (Uniting

The Dataset Diabetes Details From Efron Et Al
Individual Project 1
Introduction
This report will cover the dataset diabetes details from Efron et al.(2003). Throughout this report, we will explore the
potential relationship between the ten predictor variables: age, sex, BMI, average blood pressure, and six blood serum
measurements (tc, ldl, hdl, tch, ltg, glu) on a quantitative measure of disease progression one year after the baseline. There
are 442 diabetes patients, or records in the dataset. In this report, we will explore different methods and cross validation
techniques to understand these sample datasets leveraging linear regression, ridge regression, lasso method and metrics like
our MSE, the mean prediction error and standard errors of the test dataset. First, we will ... Show more content on

With the positive coefficients, we will see an increase in one unit of each variable separately compared with the advancement
in diabetes. With a 0.05 parameter, the linear regression model selects 5 predictor variables with significance, age, tc, ldl, tch,
and glu. To validate the assumption, we can plot the residuals versus the fitted values to see if there are any indications of
signs of random distributions. For the residual plot, we see there are no indications or violations of random distribution and
can calculate the MSE of the model, which is 3111.265. Next, we will leverage the best subset method to select the predictor
variables that are truly impactful to the model.
Best Subset Model
With our best subset method, we can leverage our lowest BIC metric to select the best model. We can plot out best subset
method and pinpoint the number of variables to select. The plot below showcases that the lowest point or value of BIC,
contains 6 variables. We leverage the BIC metric because it places a penalty on models with more or many variables.
Meaning, the mode variable a model has, the bigger the penalty. We can review the coefficients, standard errors, t value, and
the p values for the best subset method with the significant six variables. Our MSE metric for the 6 variable best subset
model is 3090.483, a slight decrease from our linear regression model.

Crash The Movie
Whether we are aware of it or not contact zones are prevalent throughout are daily lives. I try to look past it and I feel like we
all do but it s something I can t escape. I m constantly reminded of the contact zone that we live in whether by the personal
experience, word of mouth, or the media. I see the fight between multiple cultural groups, leading to the oppression of the
inferior group and the dominance of the superior group. The social differences of people have been around since man
existed. I experience it all the time in my daily life with small issues, as well as larger issues, contact zones always seem to
be appearing. I ask myself all the time what really is a contact zone? A contact zone is not only the clash or emergence of
contrasting cultural groups, but the thought that one sees himself/herself as better than the other.
The movie Crash opens my eyes to the multiple contact zones of different cultures. I see this with the different races,
opinions, and ethics in the movie. The movie opens my eyes to the many different viewpoints from a wide range of cultures.
The purpose of the movie is to show how different cultural groups judge and react to each other. The movie opens with the
quote, It s the sense of touch, any real city you walk you brush past people, people bump into you, in LA nobody touches
you, we are always behind this metal and glass. I think we miss that touch so much, we crash into each other just to feel
something. With this quote you get

A Cross-Examination Of Themes In Walden, By Henry David...
The Journey from Enslavement to Freedom, from Society to Nature: A Cross Examination of Themes in Thoreau s Walden
and Slavery in Massachusetts
Working Thesis
In Walden, Thoreau explains that to him, slavery is not only as simple as the historically common definition of the physical
enslavement of a man or woman to another man. Slavery, in the abstract, is both mental and physical, and society represents
a seemingly unavoidable, but somewhat overlooked form of slavery put upon us all. Thoreau hypothesizes and experiments
with the journey from enslavement of society to freedom. What characterizes enslavement? Is it mental, physical, or both?
How do people go about attaining their freedom? Can we ever achieve it completely? The journey from slavery to freedom is
a prominent theme in Thoreau s writings. This essay cross examines these themes in the first chapter of Walden ( Economy )
with a discourse delivered by Thoreau at an anti slavery convention, Slavery in Massachusetts , and argues for an
interpretation of Thoreau s concept of the journey from enslavement to freedom: All of society represents enslavement, with
everyone being slaves in various degrees and forms, such as physical, mental, forced, voluntary, or self inflicted. For
Thoreau, the only paths to freedom are nature and God.
TS #1
Slavery is not only physical; it is mental and even emotional with ties to the pressures and demands of everyday life. Slavery
in Massachusetts responds to the

Excerpt From Night, By Coretta Scott King
In our everyday lives we deal with rules being broken. Everyone makes the decision on whether to break the rules or not.
People can make decisions that affect the world around them for better or for worst. But is there certain rules that should be
broken? Rules that are meant to be broken at the time of injustice, to help others ,and in traditions. Throughout history there
has been events that show people breaking the rules. These events are shown in times of injustice and can catch the attention
of others, which can make a movement to change the rules. In the memoir, Montgomery Boycott by Coretta Scott King, it
shows the time of injustice in the USA and especially in Montgomery.. Mrs. Parks found a seat at the beginning of the Negro
section... ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the Excerpt From Night, by Elie Wiesel, it shows the courage of people to help others even if it breaks rules even in
terrible situations because it goes against their morals or their own personal beliefs. In this situation, the excerpt takes place
in the Holocaust. Hey, kid, how old are you? The man interrogating me was an inmate... Fifteen. No. You re eighteen Then he
asked my father, who answered: I m fifty. No. The man now sounded angry. Not fifty. You re forty. Do you hear? Eighteen
and forty . The inmate knew he would get in trouble if the officers found out that he was changing people ages. He was
changing their ages because if he didn t they would be killed because they would be seen as useless, changing their ages
possibly helped them stay alive by working. Even though people broke the rules to help others, and change the situation
sometimes it s just not worth it. We must do something. We can t let them kill us like that, like cattle in the slaughterhouse .
We must revolt.. Let the world learn of the existence of Auschwitz ...But the older men begged their sons not to be foolish .
The inmates wanted to revolt for being treated as nothing and be killed like it s game, they wanted the world to know that
they broke the rules to be set free. Their minds soon change as the older men told them not to because they knew what would
happen

Hammarskjöld What Is The Driving Force Behind The Un
Xander McIntosh
The King s College
Founder s Competition
17 November 2016
The United Nations: An Internship Like No Other
The United Nations was not created to lead mankind to heaven, but to save humanity from hell.
Dag Hammarskjöld , former United Nations Secretary General
The kinds of hell Dag Hammarskjöld referred to are not difficult to imagine in a world ravished by World War II and terrified
by the threat of nuclear war. Hammarskjöld is known today as the second Secretary General of the United Nations (UN) and
widely regarded as a man of unimpeachable character. His career at the UN was remarkable, in that he was completely
uninterested in the bureaucratic politics many at the United Nations engage in, choosing to lead projects from the command
tent instead of the corner office. He was the first and only Secretary General to be chosen unanimously and is largely
regarded as the greatest leader of the United Nations in history. John F. Kennedy once said about Hammarskjöld, I realize
now, in comparison to him I am a small man. He was the greatest statesman of our century. (Cite) The question then begs to
be asked: what is the driving force behind this man s impeccable integrity? As we know now, it was his passionate and
private Christian faith. His compassion for his fellow man manifested itself in the form of service to millions through the
United Nations. In addition, a collection of vivid personal Christian reflections, hailed by many as one of the most

When I first arrived in Chicago with my extended family, I acquired the labor of painting advertisements on cans of meat, which was a job that paid me well. Once the supply of cans were running low, the factory reopened, but my wages were noticeably lower. One way in which the union will improve workers lives is by giving benefits, which means a worker take a day off of work without getting fired. For me to have a nicely landscaped yard, I would have to cut down trees, and move bushes, and make hills where there are valleys and plant grass where there s dirt.... or so I thought. The thing is, your home improvement project this summer will cost you a lot less money if you work with what your yard already has going for it! So what does this mean? It means, use the natural landscape of your yard to create your home improvement project. Believe it or not, natural and existing landscape in your yard can even give you ideas for what to do as a project. Step 1. First, you should go out and look at your yard. What is the natural landscape? By this, I mean what does your yard look like now? This would include hills, trees, bushes, grass, places where there is just dirt, etc. But, it would also include a pavement that has already been placed in your yard, a garage or shed in your yard, etc. You need to get an idea of everything that is there. Step 2. What is it that you want to do with the yard? What landscape ideas do you have? Think of your dream landscape. Are you looking to create some new paths and walkways? Do you want to have some type of fountain or something with water like a waterfall? Do you want a patio in your new landscape? Do you want a swing? This is where you decide what your home improvement project for the summer might consist of. Step 3. Now, you need to generate some creative ideas for the existing landscape. This is the fun phase. You can come up with an idea, no matter how big or small, expensive or not. If you look at the yard in the picture for this article, it has a small hill/ incline about half way up the yard. At this point in the yard, there is a slope and then the rest of the yard is on higher ground. A great landscaping idea for this would be to do some digging and make the slope upright, and put in a retaining wall the whole way across where the yard goes from one ... This content is indicative of larger systems of power and oppression and is filled with many different instances of sexism. Between 19995 and 2005, about 90% of films made were teenages films (Behm Morawitz and Mastro, pg 134). In this specific genre, female characters were much more likely to engage in socially aggressive behaviors like spreading rumors or using the silent treatment. • 6. The Pros And Cons Of Social Stereotypes Stereotype threat is a social phenomenon where a member of a negatively stereotyped group performs poorly when reminded of that stereotype (Beilock, Jellison, Rydell, McConnell, Carr, 2006). For example, previous studies have shown that when primed with a negative stereotype African Americans perform worse on intellectual tasks (Steele, Aronson, 1995), and women perform worse at math (Spencer, Steele, Quinn, 1999). The main component of stereotype threat is that it impairs working memory (Schmader, Forbes, Johns, 2008). Working memory is a short term memory system that is involved in the control, regulation, and active maintenance of a limited amount of information with immediate relevance to the task at hand (Miyake Shah, 1999). So essentially as one works on a task, working memory keeps all the important information ready for quick access, which is crucial for performance in almost every domain. Previous studies have shown that working memory capacity is a direct mediator between stereotype threat and impaired mental performance (Schmader, Johns, 2003). At a cognitive level, working memory is a limited capacity resource that can become depleted if it is attending to multiple domains. If depleted there is less capacity available to control a task s execution and information processing demands (Schmader, Johns, 2003). Many different studies have contested how it is that stereotype threat impairs performance. For example, in Steele and Aronson s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

What ended up happening was the companies bought each other left and right until there were 5 or 6 big companies that ran everything. The record industry controlled music production, distribution, and airplay on the radio. Radio started out on the AM frequencies, then later the FM higher fidelity stations. The only way to get music through to the masses feasibly was to go through the highly selective record companies because they were the only ones who could mass produce music. The means by which this control is accomplished varies widely, but in principle, the firewall is a pair of mechanisms, one that blocks traffic and one that permits traffic. Some firewalls emphasize blocking traffic, while others emphasize permitting traffic. The most important thing to recognize about a firewall is that it implements an access control policy. This protection, more than anything, helps prevent vandals from logging on to machines on your network. More elaborate firewalls block traffic from the outside to the inside but permit users on the inside to communicate freely with the outside. The firewall can protect you against any type of network borne attack if you unplug it. Firewalls are also important because they are a single point where you can impose security and auditing. If someone attacks a computer system by dialing in with a modem, tracing the perpetrator is impossible. In contrast, the firewall can act as an effective phone tap and tracing tool. Firewalls also provide an important logging and auditing function, summarizing topics such as the kinds and amount of traffic that passed through it and how many attempted break ins occurred recently. Although the Allies were successful in pushing the Axis powers out of Sicily, Operation Husky demonstrated that Allied forces were not adequately prepared for joint operations. To add confusion and lack of clarity in the plan, General Alexander did not plan for any objectives beyond the initial invasion, preferring to wait until forces were ashore. Guidance as simple as locate the German Army in your zone and destroy them would have contributed much to alleviate the lack of trust, at least with the higher echelon of command. As it was, joint force leadership failed to give clear guidance that, in addition to negatively contributing to issues of trust, clouded the field commanders understanding of the battlefield. Open skills cannot be pre planned, however closed skills, such as sprinting or previously planned changes of direction, can be planned in advance. This is very important in every field sport as the ability to react quickly and allow the movements to match these reactions enhances performance. Many field sports require straight line running speed but more often than not fast change of direction is a defining factor of an athlete s performance. Fast change of direction speed and ability to make the right decision in a game situation makes for an excellent athlete. Many tests have been designed to test for change of direction speed. After I stirred the slime again, I put a pinch of corn starch and some contact solution into the mixture. It was now time for my favorite part, the glitter! Until Carly chucked the slime at me and instead of landing in my hands, it hit the ceiling. Carly and I couldn t stop laughing. We laughed until the slime fell down. When it did it was surprisingly as hard as a rock. Why is it so hard? I asked Carly Oh She surprised turned to laughter again We added to much corn starch. Now the slime is hard! Then we started laughing again, passing the pink glittering rock around like before. We were having so much fun, I didn t notice the clock. 6:27! Oh no! I frantically started packing my stuff. It wasn t until late highschool until I started doing well in school, which is where my motivation to prove people wrong fueled my efforts to succeed. College was when I started to take pride in my achievements. I started with a major in Psychology, where courses like Cognition, Biopsychology and Cognitive Neuroscience really caught my attention and fascinated me. Cognitive Neuroscience was one of my favorite courses because we reviewed case studies of patients with neurological damage to see how brain mechanisms underlying cognition were altered. I ll never forget learning about how damage to Broca s Area impacted generation of articulate speech. I was so interested in learning about higher cognitive processes such as pattern recognition, memory and consciousness. Classes like these led into picking up an additional major in Cognitive Science, which has given me perspective on human perception, thinking and learning. Atlanta was recently ranked October 2012 as the sixth most dangerous city in the United States among cities of more than 200,000 residents. According to Forbes the city has a violent crime rate of 1,433 per 100,000 and has experienced a violent crime rate rise of six percent in 2011 and is currently increasing. One particular wound stands out from the rest, it belonged to a lady in her late 70 s who was immobile and suffers from incontinence and slight dementia. I did feel a little vulnerable however but experience gave me the confidence to give the correct level of information. Evaluation Although the situation was quite challenging, it provided me with some useful experiences for the future practice. I understand that all institutions should have a policy for documenting the assessment of patients, including pressure ulcers (Morison 2001). I have come to be familiar with the homes assessment policy using the Sterling Pressure Sore Severity Scale and most importantly I have learned that by using a universal assessment tool it supports a systemic and consistent approach to pressure ulcer evaluation. This therefore supporting continuity of care. I have significantly developed my skill in wound care assessment and dressing, in developing this skill I now recognize the importance of documenting each dressing. • 23. Unequal Pay Among Women In the status quo, it is estimated that eighteen million women are left to live in poverty. (NWLC, 2014). This leads to women struggling to make ends meet. It s important to raise awareness for those whose voices have been silenced due to their lower status in society as they cannot be heard on their own. Many people tend to believe that both genders are equally exposed at the risk of poverty. However, it is statistically proven that women have higher poverty rates due to unequal pay rates, low paying occupations, a rise in divorce rates, and a growing number of single mothers from unplanned pregnancies. Worldwide, women are likely to have unjust pay rates which is a significant reason for poverty among women. According to the Institute for Women s Policy Research, women receive 80 cents for every dollar a man receives. (IWPR, 2015). Not only does the difference in pay rates result in women receiving lower salaries than men, but it results in women having to rationalize the low amount of money that they do receive. It is difficult to live in a world where resources are costly with a low salary. According to the United Nations Statistics Division, ...consistent with other studies, men s average salary was higher than women s average salary. (Barry A. Gerhart, 2015). • 26. The Environmental Consequences And Effects Of Climate Change Climate change is a serious environmental issue which influences changes in temperature, humidity, air quality, precipitation, and land surface wetness across the globe (Institute of Medicine [IOM], 2011). Small changes in these factors can snowball into larger and potentially disastrous outcomes in climate and weather. For example, the 1.5°F increase in the average global temperature during the past century has been accompanied by serious environmental consequences such as an increase in floods, droughts, heavy rainfall, and more frequent and intense heat waves (Environmental Protection Agency [EPA], n.d.). Over the next century, the increase in the Earth s average temperature is predicted to rise by another 0.5 to 8.6°F (EPA, n.d.). The risk for additional severe changes to the Earth s system is projected to increase, as well as the potential harm to the health of the global population (World Health Organization [WHO], 2009). One way through which this is expected to occur is through climate change affecting the indoor environment by creating favorable conditions for the growth of mold, ultimately harming inhabitants respiratory health (IOM, 2011). According to a report by the Institute of Medicine s Committee on the Effect of Climate Change on Indoor Air Quality and Public Health, climate change induced alterations to the outdoor environment are likely to affect the indoor environment, and as a result, the health of its inhabitants (2011). Climate change has increased the frequency and intensity of heavy rainfall and hurricane events, leading to more breakdown of buildings, leaks and infiltration of water into the indoor environment, and flooding (IOM, 2011). The issue of indoor dampness and flooding lies in the creation of favorable conditions for the growth of mold. Moisture level has been shown to be the primary factor responsible for indoor mold growth (IOM, 2011). Exposure to mold is associated with various respiratory symptoms, such as coughing, wheezing, asthma exacerbation, and shortness of breath in vulnerable individuals (IOM, 2011). This combination of climate change and the subsequent increase in mold growth and exposure raises concerns for health, particularly the health of those with existing ... They were a consequence of the newly adapted censorship law in 1934 that restricted addressing adult content on screen. They therefore incorporated more comedic and creative ways of symbolizing topics such as sex and homosexuality. Screwball comedies were mainly based on plots that had conflict between social classes as their many premise and always had a happy ending which was almost always marriage. Ellie Andrews runs away from her very wealthy father in defiance to go back to her husband¸ King Westley, who does not enjoy the approval of her father. While her defiance against her father does not highlight feminism in the context of marriage, it is perhaps a sign of the growing level of outward expression by women which ultimately fuels feminism. Ellie Andrews soon loses her luggage and runs out of money. She then meets Peter, the recently fired reporter. Peter offers her help and in exchange He gets to write her story. She agrees to this deal and their journey of several days begins. They grow closer as each day passes which leads to Ellie declaring her love for Peter. Nathaniel Mackey seems to wander far and away in his Bedouin Hornbook, a series of fictional letters addressed to an Angel of Dust and signed by the ambiguous N. N. interprets passages of improvisation, analyzing others musical expression in surprising detail to the point that his unquestioning sincerity and self assurance are almost laughable. By employing deceptively similar language in these instances, Mackey sets up a parallel between music and speech that he uses to make his point about how meaning is conveyed through art. Aunt Nancy not only challenges Lambert s interpretation of the music, but by extension, every unchallenged musical interpretation N. offers throughout the novel. But Aunt Nancy faces the same problem as N. when articulating her complaint. While asserting an alternate interpretation, she assumes a tone that claims hers as singularly true, which seems hypocritical. Since Aunt Nancy commits the same contradiction as N., Mackey foreshadows a reconciliation of our understanding of that contradiction. Mackey first uses the argument between Aunt Nancy and Lambert to assert that improvisation itself is the goal of music, rather than a device used to carry a separate meaning. The dispute arises when the group begins to dissect Lambert s solo. While Djamilaa, Penguin and N. are enthusiastic about the piece, Aunt Nancy sits sulking. When prompted, she divulges a resentment of the implied attack on her regarding her increased involvement with the violin at the congas expense (132). Behavioural Economics according to is the combination of psychology and economics that investigates what happens in markets in which some of the agents display human limitations and complications. The major theories that I will be discussing for the standard economic model will be (Smith, 1976. Schiffman, 2007. Behavioural economics theory helped explains my observation from my online shopping experience and irrationality of individuals when it involves decision making. Main body Standard economic theory assumes that people are rational, act based on full information have stable preferences and always maximize utility. The main accomplishment of Smith was to put forward as the central theme of economics the logical analysis of the behaviour of individual agents pursuing their self interest under conditions of competition (Smith. 1976). The Field Communication ( Nfc ) Standards INTRODUCTION Near Field Communication (NFC) standards were first developed by the NFC forum, which was founded by a consortium of Nokia, Sony and Philips in the year 2004. It is a wireless communication standard that uses magnetic induction to fill the physical space between devices in close proximity to one another in order to exchange data, usually in the 13.56 MHz band. Since it is closely spaced (less than 10 cm), it is more secure than other wireless tools like Wi Fi and Bluetooth. There are two types of NFC devices: Active devices have their own power source can read information from an NFC tag and respond to other devices, and passive NFC devices, which lack the power source and can only send data. Since the data being exchanged is often sensitive credit card numbers and medical data, for example NFC encrypts the data and sends it over a unique, secure channel. (Chris, 2014). Furthermore, NFC enabled device can operate in three different modes. They are reader/writer mode, peer to peer mode, and card emulation mode. In Reader/Writer mode the NFC device is capable of reading NFC enabled tag types, such as a tag embedded in an NFC smart poster. In Peer to Peer mode, two NFC devices can exchange data. And it is not just one decision, the college you choose can alter many aspects of your life. When you attempt to choose a school to go to you have to take into consideration many things. You have to know the major you want to go for, the minors, location, tuition cost, et cetera. I have so many options for the next step in my life. For this paper, however, I have narrowed it down to two options: Miami University and the University of Cincinnati. It is a close race between the two, but based on my recent visit to Miami going there for college would be the better option for my future. Money is an issue for mostly all college students, everyone is always worried about the debt they will obtain by going through schooling and how they are going to pay it off. Unless someone can get a full ride scholarship, you are going to have to owe money to the university you go to. My solution is that I will be making enough money after college to pay it off pretty quickly so I do not have to owe too much money throughout my life. Miami tuition is around $15,000 and room and board is around $13,000 so the total is somewhere close to $28,000 ( 2017 Cohort ). Cincinnati tuition is $11,000 and room and board can be from $11,000 to $13,000, so between $22,000 and $24,000 would be the total ( UC Facts ). He felt that everyone would benefit greatly by questioning everything. In 1887 he wrote On the Genealogy of Morality to expand on his ideas he expressed through Beyond Good and Evil. On the Genealogy of Morality consists of three different essays that question and critique the value of our moral judgements. The first and the one I will focus on, being Good and Evil , Good and Bad, in which Nietzsche discusses how goodness is relative to the eye of the beholder. He specifies two different types of groups, the first group being the militaristic and political group, which he has deemed the masters. The masters view good as having the characteristics of strength, power, freedom and achievement. The second group being the slaves, which is the group that is controlled by the masters. The slaves viewing good as having the characteristics of sympathy, charity, forgiveness, and humility. The characteristics that the masters deemed good, like strength and power, were used as sources for fear against the slaves and thus were deemed evil. • 41. Secularism In Australia Essay The increase in pluralism and materialism within the world, alongside the societies pursuit of individualism and dissatisfaction with traditional religions gave rise to the formation of secularism. (Woodhead, 2016) Secularism involves two theorems. The first being the strict separation of the church and state and the second is the equality before the law provided to all different religions and beliefs (National Secular Society, 2016). This trend is most evident through the significant increase in numbers of the Australian population in the no religion category from 0.3% in 1947 to 0.8% in 1966 and to 16.6% by 1996. By 2006, it had risen to 18.7% and by 2011 it increased to 22.30%. (NSW Government, Department of education, 2015) (Australian Bureau of Statistics, 2013) The rise of secularism challenged the identities of religious traditions, which called upon various responses. Non religious spiritualties were strengthened through the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ecumenical movements were formed as an institutional response in order to enhance this pursuit of peace and understanding, and as a mutual Christian reaction to modernity. This is due to the different reactions within each sect towards secularism for example, Conservative Roman Catholicism and Orthodoxy were the most resistant, liberalism were the most co operative, Evangelicalism and Charismatic Christianity both opposed some aspects of modernity whilst accommodated others. (Woodhead, 2016) Therefore, ecumenism was a result in settling the uprising issues. For instance, the Uniting Church of Australia was established on the 22nd of June 1977, where congregations of the Methodist church of Australasia, the Presbyterian church of Australia and the congregational union of Australia came together under the basis of union. • 42. The Dataset Diabetes Details From Efron Et Al Individual Project 1 Introduction This report will cover the dataset diabetes details from Efron et al.(2003). Throughout this report, we will explore the potential relationship between the ten predictor variables: age, sex, BMI, average blood pressure, and six blood serum measurements (tc, ldl, hdl, tch, ltg, glu) on a quantitative measure of disease progression one year after the baseline. There are 442 diabetes patients, or records in the dataset. In this report, we will explore different methods and cross validation techniques to understand these sample datasets leveraging linear regression, ridge regression, lasso method and metrics like our MSE, the mean prediction error and standard errors of the test dataset. First, we will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With the positive coefficients, we will see an increase in one unit of each variable separately compared with the advancement in diabetes. With a 0.05 parameter, the linear regression model selects 5 predictor variables with significance, age, tc, ldl, tch, and glu. To validate the assumption, we can plot the residuals versus the fitted values to see if there are any indications of signs of random distributions. For the residual plot, we see there are no indications or violations of random distribution and can calculate the MSE of the model, which is 3111.265. Next, we will leverage the best subset method to select the predictor variables that are truly impactful to the model. Best Subset Model With our best subset method, we can leverage our lowest BIC metric to select the best model. We can plot out best subset method and pinpoint the number of variables to select. The plot below showcases that the lowest point or value of BIC, contains 6 variables. We leverage the BIC metric because it places a penalty on models with more or many variables. Meaning, the mode variable a model has, the bigger the penalty. We can review the coefficients, standard errors, t value, and the p values for the best subset method with the significant six variables. Our MSE metric for the 6 variable best subset model is 3090.483, a slight decrease from our linear regression model. Best Subset Model with 10 fold Cross ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Crash The Movie Whether we are aware of it or not contact zones are prevalent throughout are daily lives. I try to look past it and I feel like we all do but it s something I can t escape. I m constantly reminded of the contact zone that we live in whether by the personal experience, word of mouth, or the media. I see the fight between multiple cultural groups, leading to the oppression of the inferior group and the dominance of the superior group. The social differences of people have been around since man existed. I experience it all the time in my daily life with small issues, as well as larger issues, contact zones always seem to be appearing. I ask myself all the time what really is a contact zone? A contact zone is not only the clash or emergence of contrasting cultural groups, but the thought that one sees himself/herself as better than the other. The movie Crash opens my eyes to the multiple contact zones of different cultures. I see this with the different races, opinions, and ethics in the movie. The movie opens my eyes to the many different viewpoints from a wide range of cultures. The purpose of the movie is to show how different cultural groups judge and react to each other. The movie opens with the quote, It s the sense of touch, any real city you walk you brush past people, people bump into you, in LA nobody touches you, we are always behind this metal and glass. I think we miss that touch so much, we crash into each other just to feel something. With this quote you get ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. A Cross-Examination Of Themes In Walden, By Henry David... The Journey from Enslavement to Freedom, from Society to Nature: A Cross Examination of Themes in Thoreau s Walden and Slavery in Massachusetts Working Thesis In Walden, Thoreau explains that to him, slavery is not only as simple as the historically common definition of the physical enslavement of a man or woman to another man. Slavery, in the abstract, is both mental and physical, and society represents a seemingly unavoidable, but somewhat overlooked form of slavery put upon us all. Thoreau hypothesizes and experiments with the journey from enslavement of society to freedom. What characterizes enslavement? Is it mental, physical, or both? How do people go about attaining their freedom? Can we ever achieve it completely? The journey from slavery to freedom is a prominent theme in Thoreau s writings. This essay cross examines these themes in the first chapter of Walden ( Economy ) with a discourse delivered by Thoreau at an anti slavery convention, Slavery in Massachusetts , and argues for an interpretation of Thoreau s concept of the journey from enslavement to freedom: All of society represents enslavement, with everyone being slaves in various degrees and forms, such as physical, mental, forced, voluntary, or self inflicted. For Thoreau, the only paths to freedom are nature and God. TS #1 Slavery is not only physical; it is mental and even emotional with ties to the pressures and demands of everyday life. No. You re eighteen Then he asked my father, who answered: I m fifty. No. The man now sounded angry. Not fifty. You re forty. Do you hear? Eighteen and forty . The inmate knew he would get in trouble if the officers found out that he was changing people ages. He was changing their ages because if he didn t they would be killed because they would be seen as useless, changing their ages possibly helped them stay alive by working. Even though people broke the rules to help others, and change the situation sometimes it s just not worth it. We must do something. We can t let them kill us like that, like cattle in the slaughterhouse . We must revolt.. Let the world learn of the existence of Auschwitz ...But the older men begged their sons not to be foolish . • 47. Hammarskjöld What Is The Driving Force Behind The Un Xander McIntosh The King s College Founder s Competition 17 November 2016 The United Nations: An Internship Like No Other The United Nations was not created to lead mankind to heaven, but to save humanity from hell. Dag Hammarskjöld , former United Nations Secretary General The kinds of hell Dag Hammarskjöld referred to are not difficult to imagine in a world ravished by World War II and terrified by the threat of nuclear war. Hammarskjöld is known today as the second Secretary General of the United Nations (UN) and widely regarded as a man of unimpeachable character. His career at the UN was remarkable, in that he was completely uninterested in the bureaucratic politics many at the United Nations engage in, choosing to lead projects from the command tent instead of the corner office. He was the first and only Secretary General to be chosen unanimously and is largely regarded as the greatest leader of the United Nations in history. John F. Kennedy once said about Hammarskjöld, I realize now, in comparison to him I am a small man. He was the greatest statesman of our century. (Cite) The question then begs to be asked: what is the driving force behind this man s impeccable integrity? As we know now, it was his passionate and private Christian faith. His compassion for his fellow man manifested itself in the form of service to millions through the United Nations. In addition, a collection of vivid personal Christian reflections, hailed by many as one of the most ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
