The Technology Committee of the Clinical Section continues its Webinar series on Tuesday with a webinar about CALS's A2J Author technology.
So you say you want to teach your students using experiential learning, expose them to technology worthy of modern law practice AND increase their awareness of the access to justice gap? With the Center for Computer-Assisted Legal Instruction’s (CALI) A2J Author, you can do this. A2J Author is a web-based tool that lets lawyers automate legal processes or court forms without having to learn to program. It has been used by legal aid and courts to automate over 1000 forms and processes and has been used by SRLs (self-representing litigants) over 3 1/2 million times ... and .... it's free for US law schools to use in their courses.
During the AALS Clinical Section Technology Committee’s upcoming Technology Tuesdays Webinar on March 14, from 4-5 p.m. EST, John Mayer, CALI's Executive Director will demo A2J Author and talk about how it has been used in legal education courses covering a variety of legal subject areas. A2J Author is also an ideal platform for rapid deployment of automation to assist in immigration and hackathon events. Come learn about CALI's best kept secret.

[AIIM17] Just How Accessible is Your Information? - Vencer Cotton and Betsy F...AIIM International
In this era of digital transformation, we need to ensure that our information is fully accessible. In this session, Mr. Vencer Cotton, Senior Director of Technology at Columbia Lighthouse for the Blind, a Washington, DC based nonprofit organization and Betsy Fanning, AIIM’s Director of Standards will examine how you can make your information accessible through a demonstration of a website and provide you with some tips to implement. Building on website accessibility, we will share some examples of how the PDF/UA standard is implemented in organizations. This session will bring home Mr. Cotton’s message of the ‘added value when information and the systems that deliver it are accessible to all: regardless of ability.’ Something we can all get behind!

Metadata Matters – Collaboration, Search, and Information Governance at Brail...Concept Searching, Inc
Brailsford & Dunlavey has earned a reputation as a premier national program management firm, overseeing billions of dollars in new construction and renovation projects. It offers comprehensive services, ranging from planning through implementation, and manages all areas of risk, and maintains constant control of budget, schedule, and quality.
Brailsford & Dunlavey’s goal was to update its SharePoint 2010 intranet, to refresh an out-of-the-box design and to improve usability and collaboration. The existing intranet lacked a clear governance structure, effective information architecture, and mobile accessibility. With nearly 70,000 documents and more than 8,000 list items on its intranet, and another 200,000 on its client portal, the firm needed a way to make intranet content significantly more accessible to employees across several national offices.
The redeveloped and redesigned intranet was implemented with responsive design, to encourage the highly mobile workforce to access the site from anywhere. The intranet’s new, intuitive design reflects the look and feel of Brailsford & Dunlavey’s public facing website, and the refreshed information architecture has provided a clear path to find important information.
Join Brailsford & Dunlavey and Concept Searching to:
• Discover what was done from a technology perspective
• Understand how all the firm’s documents were tagged and classified
• Find out how long the project took
• Hear about challenges and lessons learned
• Learn what the benefits have been
• Watch a demo and see the intranet in action
mLearncon 2015 - So you are building your first mobile learning project in your organization—where do you start and what steps do you need to take to be successful? Just because you are experienced in managing an eLearning project doesn’t mean you are ready to project manage a mobile learning project. There are many differences, and plenty of new landmines to watch for.
In this session you will look at the project management steps of developing a mobile learning project, using a real case study as an example of what to do and what not to do. You will receive and examine a template and sample mobile learning project management plan that includes front-end analysis, specifications documents, budgets, change management plan, development plan, implementation plan, and project evaluation. You will leave this session with a new appreciation and preparedness for mobile learning project management.

As grant professionals, we work to avoid all errors in grant applications—from math, to grammar, to citations. Nevertheless, we are all human and oversights slip through. Often the mistakes are minor and overlooked by a potential funder. However, there are times when an error can jeopardize a funding award. It has happened to many—if not all—of us. The critical question is how, as a new or seasoned grant professional, to learn from these mistakes and still successfully continue to move your organization or your client forward.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.
