This document discusses facial coding systems used to analyze facial expressions and detect deception. It describes the Facial Action Coding System (FACS) which identifies individual muscle movements to determine expressions. Micro-expressions, which last 1/25-1/15 seconds, can reveal concealed emotions. Paul Ekman used this to detect lies in high-stakes situations. Smiles can also indicate genuine positive emotion or deception. While difficult, these skills can help understand others and make better decisions.
