Afro-descendants in Latin America Essay
There are currently 150 million Afro descendants in Latin America who make up nearly 30 percent of
the region s population (Congressional Research Service, 2005). Out of the fifteen Latin American
nations that have recently adapted some sort of multicultural reform, only three give recognize Afro
Latino communities and give them the same rights as indigenous groups (Hooker, 2005). Indigenous
groups are more successful than afro descendent groups in gaining collective rights and development
aid from international NGO s. Collective rights important because are closely related to land rights
and can become a tool to fight descrimination .I will attempt to uncover the causes for the discrepancy.
This study relies heavily on ethnographic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
More specifically, that elites are more apt to give rights to groups small in number because they are
less of a threat, and Afro Latinos compose a larger percent of the population in most countries.
However, when looking at population size as an indicator of whether blacks or indigenous groups gain
collective rights, there is no direct correlation (Hooker, 2005). While it may be the case that
population size is an important factor in elite decision making about collective rights, it does not
explain the uneven scope of such rights won by blacks and Indians within and across countries (293).
Following this logic, Bolivia, a largely indigenous country would not have the progressive indigenous
recognition in comparison to other countries like Chile, where the indigenous population is much
smaller.
Hooker claims indigenous groups are more successful and gaining collective rights due to the view of
indigenous groups as a distinct cultural group while Afro decedents are not seen as having a distinct
culture, but rather a separate racial group (Hooker, 2005). Wade (1997) also pointed the inequality in
epistemology of academics in who study Latin America. Where black groups are studied by
sociologists in relation to racism and indigenous peoples are studied by Anthropologist (p.60). Blacks
find it more difficult to gain recognition because the multicultural reforms adopted by Latin American
states are based on ethnic identity rather than race

Eyewitness Testimony Research
An eyewitness is a person who witnessed a particular crime or situation. AlleyDog.com defines an
eyewitness testimony as a situational account of a witness of what is typically a crime or an accident.
It is a legal term that essentially describes when a witness or victim is recounting their firsthand
experience to another person or to a court. Research has shown that a testimony can be incorrect due
factors such as stress, outside peers, misleading question and loss of memory (1998 2017). These
things must be taken into account so that a jury does not put an innocent person in prison. A reliable
witness should have the main characteristics; adequate perception, have a good memory and report it
well, must able and willing to tell the truth

Essay about Deception in William Shakespeare s Twelfth Night
Deception in William Shakespeare s Twelfth Night
In William Shakespeare s comedic play, Twelfth Night, a recurring theme is deception. The characters
in the play used deception for a variety of purposes. Viola s use of deception involves her disguising
herself as a man in order to obtain a job with the Duke of Illyria, Orsino. On the other hand, Maria,
Olivia s servant, writes a letter to Malvolio in Olivia s handwriting to make Malvolio act foolishly
because of his love for Olivia. While some use deception as a means of survival, others use deception
to trick others and make them act foolishly.
The first example of deception in this play was when Viola decides to disguise herself as a man. Viola
barely escapes a shipwreck ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She feels pity for Olivia and herself with the statement Poor lady, she were better love a dream (2.2.
25)! Viola s use of deception causes a cross gender love triangle with which she can not deal.
Another example of deception is when Maria, Olivia s servant writes a letter to Malvolio, Olivia s
head servant and Maria s coworker. Maria deceives Malvolio by writing in Olivia s handwriting. In
the letter she says that Olivia loves men in yellow stockings. Remember who commended thy yellow
stockings, and wished to see thee ever cross gartered (2.5. 143 145). Maria knows that Malvolio will
follow this ridiculous deed because of this love for his lady Olivia. Sir Toby Belch says, He shall think
by the letters that thou wilt drop that they come from my niece, and that she s in love with him (2.3.
154 156). Maria places the letter in her garden where Malvolio will definitely find it. Thinking Olivia
will fall in love with him because of his clothing, Malvolio dress up in yellow stockings and goes to
see Olivia. When Olivia sees Malvolio and the way he is acting, she isolates him for fear that he is
insane.
Shakespeare s use of cross dressing and deceitfulness extends beyond the actual writings in the plays
and goes onto the stage. Women were not allowed to perform on stage in Shakespeare s time. . ..all the
great women s roles in Elizabethan and Jacobean plays, from Juliet and Lady Macbeth to the duchess
of Malfi, were written to be

Munny s Journey In Unforgiven
In the movie Unforgiven, it displays the rocky journey of William Munny with where he starts and
finishes as the killer of women and children. During his marriage and a bit after the death of his wife,
William Munny went through a rebirth and let go of his memories of the past in order to be not only a
good husband but a father to his two children. His journey starts when the Schofield kid asks William
to join him in killing two men that cut up a woman s face for the reward of $500 each; between not
wanting to go back to his life of being a killer and wanting to provide for his family Munny is torn. He
decides to take the kid up on his offer and gets his old partner Ned Logan to help him hunt down the
two men. Through the movie William is tempted to drink and have sex with Delilah but denies both
because his wife wouldn t approve, this being an example that William may not have come to terms
with her being dead and uses her as an excuse not to turn back into the killer that he ... Show more

finally shooting him through the gut with his last shot. As for the second guy William lets the
Schofield kid kill him to ease his conscience and let the kid have his moment, only to find out that it
was his first and last kill. William tells the kid to drink after he kills to help take away the pain and to
forget what he did, just as William used to do when he would be drinking and would go out to shoot

Public Services Case Study
People often behave differently when their anger has been evoked, which can be quite negative in
particular circumstances. A quick decision made during a fit of rage can have an enduring impact on
your life, and its often not a good one.
Many public sector jobs are highly demanding and a higher level of self control and customer service
skills are likely required. For instance, police officers and restaurant servers work with the public.
These average citizens can be tested by unexpected situations that place both their patience and
character in the hot seat. Examined below is an event that occurred just a few years back in the sector
of public transportation.

Allegedly, the TTC driver believed that the fare paid by this particular student wasn t correct, due to
the student s age. It s alleged that the student s head was pressed against a glass window, and it broke.
The exact manner of how the window broke was unclear in the initial reports regarding the incident.
The constable who was the police representative that investigated the event made note that the victim
s neck and head injuries appeared to be quite minor. However, the victim chose to gain the services of
a lawyer, who s specialty was personal injury. His lawyer advised him to visit the hospital to acquire a
medical exam.
This was, of course, the smartest choice the victim could have made, as the steps taken by him in the
aftermath of his assault befitted him greatly in resolving his case. It s not the job of the police or
witnesses to gauge the nature of an attack. Multiple people tend to minimize their injuries as a matter
that they can handle on their own, a grievous mistake that can result in more serious injury later while
simultaneously damaging a victim s chances of being compensated in a manner consistent with the

I would like to end sending our troops in because I feel as if they are fighting over nothing they don t
need to fight for other countries but, for us to save our children and our families not theirs. It s their
fault they are in that mess and I don t want our country in something like that either. We need to
protect not destroy. I would like to do this to stop death of our families. I believe that anything is
possible and I want to hear your ideas and thought on what needs done and want you want done. I
would also like to cut the interest down for house payments and medical bills. Some families can t get
out of a bad house conditions or move out because of how much money they have to pay for medical
bills, like my family can t move out because she is still paying medical bill from having a baby and a
low paying job. My grandma is about to lose her house because she s very diabetic and every time she

The Great Wave
Even though like many art form date back, painting being the oldest, they can for the most part all
interrelate with each other such as: music and dance, poetry and sculpture, music and drama and can
go together many different way depending on the person perspective, but the one that stands out the
most is poetry and painting. A prime example would be a the painting The Starry night and its
conjoining poem, but not allowed to use that one so the next best one is The Great Wave by Hokusai.
Most people when reading something they image it in the mind to help them to get a better

the poem, A spot of wine they gather gossiping under a tree whose shade carelessly he does not share

In conclusion, the interrelationship of poetry and painting is very prominent in art allowing the

The Music Video Of Hong Kong
Blur, a British band, released their official music video of the song, Ong Ong , on June 3rd 2015. The
whole music video is weird to most people because of its image covering with pink color and cute
figures. The song is from the album called The Magic Whip. According to the video featuring the
interviews of makings this album, the song is made in Hong Kong, and the song s name, Ong Ong is
actually derived from Hong Kong. This means that the song is about Hong Kong, and a lot of
locations in Hong Kong are mentioned in the lyrics as well ( Blur The Magic Whip: Made in Hong
Kong. ). All in all, we can assume that there are some connections between the issues in Hong Kong
and the cute music video. Instead of heavy, sad and relatively direct presentation of the status in Hong
Kong, they choose to present vague metaphors that cannot easily be discovered because it will result
in serious trouble if addressed directly in public. With the reason above and that the band members
think Hong Kong is a cute place, they developed a main strategy, which is to introduce Hong Kong to
their fans with a series of cute, relaxing, and seemly meaningless emotion of blur, just as their band s
name. In order to pass their message carefully and vaguely, they use fantasy, funny villains, and, most
of all, strong images. First of all, the music video conducts a traditional fairytale story, which most of
the boys and girls fantasized as kids, as a metaphor for the people of Hong

Scout Reflection
On Saturday, the 28th of October, I presented Earth Rocks to Cub Scouts who were earning their Merit
Badge. As I now reflect on the two sessions I taught that day, I wonder if I could have ever been truly
prepared for them. I believed I had everything lined out and timed to take us right up to the time their
session was over. However, that was not the case because the scouts knew a considerable amount
more about the subject than I realized. I feel honored to have been able to work with such intelligent
groups of scouts. During the first session, I quickly realized that these Cub Scouts knew an impressive
amount about the information I was presenting, so I forced myself to change how I was presenting the
material. I engaged the scouts into the material by asking each one tons of questions about what they
already knew. Then I made sure they stayed busy with hands on activities that really engrossed them
into the material. I believe that when I had to change my lesson plans on the spot, I did decently well.
I was able to better grab the scouts attention and help them learn more information than before they
walked into the session. One of the most challenging ideas I tried to teach to the scouts would have to
be about geographical surroundings and the geographical materials that make up the buildings. I feel
as if I did not know enough about the subject matter, or how to present it correctly in a way that was
truly benefiting the scouts. However, the scout leaders were

Importance Of Teaching Reasoning And Proof
Teaching Reasoning and Proof
As educators and as students it is pivotal to emphasize the importance of reasoning and proof in the
classroom. By doing such, students will develop a higher level of thinking not only in the classroom
but in the real world as well. In secondary education, it is only a short period of time until students are
faced with complex thinking that is not specific to any textbook. In education specifically students
will have to approach problems in different directions. This is something that takes a bit of adjusting
to if that student is not previously exposed to reasoning and proofs. Very young students make
conjectures all the time. It is one of the beauties of preschool and kindergarten. At this stage of life,
kids are very curious about most subjects. In the case of geometry, a preschool student starts to
recognize the similarities of a square and a cube. They obviously may not be able to reason what the
volume of the cube is, but they start to recognize the similarities. This is a tremendous aspect that
shouldn t be looked over. It is important to continue and develop these students and not let that
curiosity diminish. That curiosity is the drive in education. At this age, educators should focus on the
basics of reasoning. There aren t many formulas for these kids, they are just being exposed to the
process. It makes sense for the teachers to spend more time on the reasoning early; in return the
student s brains will start to develop those

Loyalty In Sophocles Antigone
Throughout history, scholars, poets, and socialites cite and argue multiple aspects within Sophocles
plays, which all contain a deluge of sentiments that permeate global society and culture. Riddled with
disparate interpretations and theories, Antigone sparks acrimonious debate regarding a plethora of its
details, such as characterization, theme, and undertone. Antigone, written by the Ancient Greek
playwright Sophocles, recounts the events of Oedipus daughter, Antigone, following her brothers
deaths. Sophocles manipulates Antigone s character to model the loyal, dutiful individual the Greeks
idolized in their religion and culture rather than formulating a realistic character who serves herself.
These attributes of loyalty and duty emerge ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To illustrate, Antigone articulates to Ismene that Creon lacks the power to prohibit her from burying
Polyneices (Prologue, line 35). Disregarding Creon s powers, Antigone extends both her immaturity
and recklessness in amanner that both generates a hazy impression of Antigone s plausibility and
discredits her personality because of the seldom conflict between the king and women in Ancient
Greece. Furthermore, characters such as Eurydice and Jocasta, who experience much more tragedy,
diverge from Antigone in the course of their reactions. While Jocasta and Eurydice grieve for their
loved ones and succumb to the sorrow, Antigone s reaction exists at the opposite end of the spectrum
where she acts with the sole intent to spite Creon. Continuing, Antigone dictates that she is not afraid
of the danger; if it means death, / It will not be the worst of deaths death without honor (Prologue,
lines 80 81). Recognizing her inevitable fate, Antigone makes little effort to alter her actions or
consequences. Her proud acceptance of her death, which she claims to be one of honor, projects her
arrogance and stubbornness toward her situation. This immediate compliance fails to reflect the true
outlook and reaction toward approaching death both today and in her time. Additionally, the diatribe
provided by Antigone to the chorus near her death sparks much criticism when she asserts that she
prays Creon s punishment equals her own when the truth of her actions emerges (Scene 4, lines 67
69). Antigone s blatant assault on Creon s life conveys her ignorance, which also transmits the
impossibility of her individuality. Sophocles employs Antigone to generate the generalized perspective
of tyranny Conversely, many individuals justify Antigone s reckless behavior

The Reign of Suryavarman Ii Lives
The Reign of Suryavarman II Lives As one of the seven wonders of the world, Cambodia s Angkor
Wat, is the largest temple to ever be built on the face of the earth. Although many, including the
Smithsonian Network Institution (SNI), deem Angkor Wat as, a symbol of one of the greatest empires
in the history of Southeast Asia , it is perhaps highly noted as a wonder , because for centuries, the
sacred structure remained lost within the tropical forests of Cambodia, along with the history of the
young king who built the temple , notes SNI. The story behind this king supports the idea that, there

The temples are all so symbolic, which helps us understand their cosmology and religious ideologies
(Freeman Jacques 47). It has also been recorded that the temple contained a statue of Vishnu, but at

Hindu sources as the subject matter Ramayana and Mahabharata epics, were specifically carved on the

but recently, Chinese began to restore it. In some ways, this symbolically represents the profound
effect Suryavarman and his creation of temples had on the religion and ideology in the Eastern world,
and the future between Cambodia and China. As a result of Suryavarman s dedication to create
reflections of gods and religion, it is inferred that religion and society were intimately linked
throughout the Angkorian period. Suryavarman s reign is also notable for his internal and international
warfare. In other words, his military efforts is what helped set him apart from the other kings. The

history and glory of the Khmer Empire. For example, the third gallery shows the king standing astride

Essay about Wilfred Owen Speech
Ok what I have got here today is a detailed speech and I intend to explain two poems Disabled and
Dolce et Decorum est. , both written by Wilfred Owen. I would choose these two poems to be in an
anthology because I found the poems to be very dramatic and extremely detailed. Owen intends to
shock us by demonstrating what a soldier might expect in a situation between life and death. He is not
afraid to show his own feelings. Wilfred Owen is an anti war poet and expresses his ideas and feelings
through various themes and poetic devices which I will be discussing throughout this speech.
Wilfred Owens themes portray his attitude towards what war is and what might happen to an

Owen intends to shock us by presenting the reality he is feeling, this is why I had chosen this to be one
of my poems Owen usesgraphic descriptions, speaking in a very direct and straightforward way, using
words that convey ugliness and also shows the reality of war which clearly changes our thoughts of
war in the end. Wilfred Owens captivating poem Disabled relates to the after effects of what war can
be responsible for. The poem depicts an ironic contrast between a strong limbed, handsome youth hero
in battle and a wrecked body in a wheelchair which occurs when a man becomes horribly wounded.
His themes are clear that there is no glory in war and war strips men of their youth.
Owen demonstrates how naive the minds of young boys were during the period of the war. Quotes
such as Aye, that was it, to please the giddy jilts or Someone said he d look a god in kilts suggests that
he joined the army to impress others and to maintain this popular image that he seemed to possess.
Then the quotes Germans he scarcely thought of he had no fears and He thought of jewelled hilts for
daggers in plaid socks of smart salutes further demonstrates that the young soldier clearly has no real
view on what war

Chairman and Chief Executive of leading European pharmaceutical enterprises, Nourtis:
Profit in pharmaceutical industries is not possible without patents and without patents innovation,
research and development of new life saving drugs and medicines suffers (Winestock and Cooper,
2001, p. 1). Without incentive Research and Development (R amp;D) cannot be done, and this
incentive is provided by strong IPRs. According to Grabowski, H. (2002) the total cost of doing
researching and developing new drug along with the costs of capital and failed R amp;D is more than
US$400 million. In the absence of strong implementation of IPRs and R amp;D costs, investors will
not be ready to invest in R amp;D.
According to Dam (1994, P. 247), the copping of intangible assets are very easy and this will result in
free copying of innovation by imitators at a low cost. Patent which is one of the way of IPRs, helps to
motivate innovation and R amp;D by giving assurance to innovator total and exclusive rights, these
rights include manufacturing right, selling or maintaining, distributing or licensing to distribute the
invention. If patent laws in not available in pharmaceutical market no investors will ready to do
investment in R amp;D and the risk is so high that competitor will copy the good and services with
less risky investment (Ryan and Shanebrook, 2004, pp. 15, 16).

The Federal Reserve ( Investopedia ) Essay
In 1913, the United States Congress created the world s most powerful monetary system, called the
Federal Reserve (Investopedia). It involves one central agency and twelve regional Federal Reserve
Banks that are accountable for their designated areas in the United States (Investopedia). Its primary
purpose was to establish a secure, malleable, and a solid financial system which was to prevent
financial devastation during times of crisis (Investopedia). More specifically, prior to the creation of
the Federal Reserve Bank, the United States had bouts of crisis that created panic among the citizens.
In utter terror, people would withdraw their funds from their banks causing a domino effect of
financial institutions being pushed out of business due to a deficiency of money (stlouisfed).
Therefore, the Federal Reserve Act was endorsed as a resolution to crisis periods, providing a money
supply that would balance the economy, and introduce Federal Reserve Notes as a form of new
currency (stlouisfed). In essence, the Federal Reserve became fully responsible for developing a
comprehensive banking system that would allow for a strong economy. Therefore, one must
understand the structure, the function, and the future of the Federal Reserve Bank that continues to
financially secure this great country. First, one must understand the structure of the Federal Reserve

Meaning And Definition Of Ledger By J. R. Batliboi
Meaning and Definition of Ledger
According to J.R. Batliboi , The ledger is the chief of accounts and it is in this book that all the
business transactions would ultimately find their place under their accounts in a duly classified form.
A Ledger should be kept in the form of bound register, or in the form of cards or in punched sheets or
it can be in the form of loose leaf binder. Every account in the ledger is opened preferably or it can be
in a separate page or card
These all business transactions are first recorded in Journal or Special Purpose Subsidiary Books. The
next step is to transfer the entries to the respective accounts in Ledger. In other words this shows that

continue to be concentrated on volunteers who are Technopark employees. Moreover, there were some
issues including lack of consideration to the works when participating in blood sampling, no
compensation in response to the risk of accidents and no rule of the maximum number of the blood
sampling per year. Therefore, we hereby report on the start of the flowing new measures and policies
to tackle with our current issues.
1. In order to reduce the burden of the blood sampling volunteer work concentrated on TP, change the
operational rules and expand the targeted business offices for sampling to SC and headquarters.
1) Adding a blood sampling institution near headquarters
To enable headquarters employees to participate, we are looking for some blood sampling institutions
that are nearer to headquarters (Nada, Sannomiya, Shin Kobe, etc.). The Kobe Medical Clinic
(Motomachi) is one candidate for an additional institution.
2) Transportation Service between SC and medical institution
To enable SC employees to participate more, Bus transportation service from SC to medical institution
will start and personal information manager will be newly appointed at SC.
3) New appointment of Personal Information Managers As we expanded the blood sampling office to
SC and headquarters, we need to appoint qualified persons to the Personal Information

Elasticity of Demand
The purpose of this essay is to define elasticity of demand, cross price elasticity, income elasticity, and
explain the elastic coefficients for each. I will explain the contrast of and significance of difference
between the three. I will also explain whether demand would tend to be more or less elastic for
availability of substitutes, share of consumer income devoted to a good, and consumer s time horizon,
and give examples of each. Then, I will explain the logical impacts to business decision making that
result from each. Last, I will differentiate between perfectly inelastic demand and perfectly inelastic
demand, and illustrate the difference between the terms. Elasticity of demand, also known as price
demand elasticity, is defined as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The coefficient for elasticity of demand measures the relationship between two variables. A formula
for figuring out the coefficient of elasticity of demand is: (percentage change in quantity) / (percentage
change in price). The coefficient will be the percentage change in quantity demanded in response to a
one percent change in price, and will determine is if the demand for a good is elastic (eod gt;1) or
inelastic (eod lt;1). Knowing the coefficient for the demand of a product gives a business the edge
because they will know when to make adjustments to price in order to increase the demand for a
product. Cross price elasticity, Income elasticity, and Elasticity of demand all have different
coefficient formulas. The difference between cross price elasticity and income elasticity is that cross
price elasticity measure the percentage of change in demand of a product in relation to change in
price, while income elasticity measures changes in demand in relation to changes in income. The
difference between these two and elasticity of demand is that elasticity of demand measures the
responsiveness of demand to a change in price. Elasticity of demand determines whether a company
can increase or reduce their price on a product, and is therefore detrimental to a company that is trying
to maximize their profits. Cross price

North American Free Trade Agreement
The North American Free Trade Agreement is a regulation between Mexico, Canada, and the United
States which eliminates most tariffs on trade among them. This agreement was implemented January
1, 1994 with the purpose to encourage economic activity among the member countries. At the time, it
established the largest free trade region in the world and included the elimination of tariffs,
agreements on trades in services, and a dispute settlement mechanism for trade disagreements.

From 1993 2003 Canada s economy grew by 30.9% and Canada s exports to the United States
expanded by 250%. But Canada did struggle to reduce high unemployment rates 9% throughout most
of the 1990s. Canada did not experience a significant loss in labor jobs during this period, but the
Canadian dollar was at historic low levels in relation to the US dollar, which helped to make Canadian
goods competitive on the world market. NAFTA has clearly been a benefit to Canada s economy and
continues to have a noticeable effect to this very day.
The Mexican Peso Crisis
The Mexican Peso Crisis in December 1994 was a currency crisis that was sparked by the Mexican
government s devaluation of the peso against the U.S. dollar. In 1994, the government started
expansionary fiscal and monetary policy in an attempt to attract more foreign investment dollars into
Mexico. It used an odd form of government debt to attract investment. The government issued short
term debt in the local currency, peso, but promised to repay the debt in US dollars. Basically, the
government was gambling that the peso would remain strong or even strengthen against the US dollar
so the government s debt would be reduced. I think the logic was that the government believed that

The Likely Cause Of Earthquakes In The United States
Name: Olawale Oluwakoya
Media report: The likely cause of recent southeast US earthquakes.
The southeastern part of the United States should not encounter too many seismic activities because it
is located in the interior of the North American Plate, a good distance away from plate boundaries
where earthquakes mostly occur. However the southeast have seen some seismic, the latest was the
2011 magnitude 5.8 earthquake at Virginia.
Scientists recently reported in a new study a likely explanation for this unexpected incident, some tiny
pieces of the mantle under the region have been breaking off and moving deep down into the Earth.
Thereby weakening the remaining plates and making it more prone to slipping that causes
earthquakes. Most study authors have concluded that this process is ongoing and very likely ... Show

Earthquakes does not often occur in the middle of plates, however they do happen when old faults or
rifts far below the surface reactivate. These areas are weak compared to the surrounding plate, and can
slip easily and cause earthquake.
A CAT scan of the Earth
To find out what had been happening below the surface, researchers created 3D images of the mantle
portion of the North American Plate. Seismologists image the internal part of the Earth by tracing the
paths of seismic waves created by earthquakes as they move through the ground. The waves move
faster through colder rocks and less quickly through warmer rocks. Rocks cool and harden as they
become older, so the faster seismic waves, the older the rock.
The researchers used tremors created by earthquakes a little more than 2,000 miles away to create a
3D map of the mantle. They discovered that plate thickness in the southeast U.S. is uneven, they saw
thick areas of dense, aged rock stretching down and thin areas of less dense, younger

I had new thoughts, willful thoughts, or rather thoughts filled with lots of wont s. I won t let her
change me, I promised myself. I won t be what I m not. (pg.134) Amy can personally relate to this
quote from The Joy Luck Club because her mother wanted her to be a doctor and a pianist. Not only
was accomplishing this dream her mother set for her time consuming, but it also was not what Amy
aspired to be. Daisy was trying to live through Amy, which made Amy even more determined to do
what she felt made her happy.
Another book that Amy published that focuses on mother daughter relationships was The Valley of
Amazement. In addition to discussing mother daughter relationships, this novel also expounds on
family secrets and trauma. Tan can relate to family secrets because her mother left her three daughters
in China which affected the way her mother raised her. Daisy also held the secret of her mother, who
committed suicide when Daisy was nine, and the ghost she left behind. Also, Amy experienced trauma
when she lost both her brother and father due to brain tumors only six months apart. Having to cope
with the death of her loved ones and living up to the unbearable standards of her mother, Amy chose
to please herself first. Amy Tan wrote The life we receive is not always what we chose , in The Valley
of Amazement. This can show how Amy was not satisfied with where her life was going so she

How Far Do You Agree That the Hundred Flowers Campaign Was...
How far do you agree that the Hundred Flowers campaign was a trick designed by Mao to trap his
opponents?
The Hundred Flowers Campaign began in 1957 when Mao Zedong declared in a speech, Let a
hundred schools of thought contend, effectively encouraging criticism from members of the Chinese
Communist Party. After members began pointing out where the party had made mistakes, however,
Mao suddenly reversed this new policy and began the Anti Rightist Movement, condemning the critics
whose opinions he had just previously invited. Was the Hundred Flowers Campaign a trick designed
by Mao to trap his opponents?

Mao s retaliation was severe, precise, and on an enormously large scale. He was obviously poised to
attack, and this hints that the Hundred Flowers Campaign was merely a wily method of enticing Mao s
prey.
There is, on the other hand, much evidence to support that the campaign was a genuine attempt at
reform. In his Contradictions speech, given to leading party workers in early 1957, Mao complained
of the oppressive way some party officials were applying policies and hinted that it was time to begin
permitting intellectuals to voice their opinions. Furthermore, in 1956, he had been tolerant of Hu Feng,
a writer who challenged the idea that all artistic merit should be judged based on Marxist Leninist
values, even as other CCP leaders viciously censured him. These two examples show that Mao,
although previously disdainful of intellectuals, may have begun to see their importance, and thus may
have been honestly inviting their criticism when the Hundred Flowers Campaign began.
In addition, the launching of the Hundred Flowers Campaign may have been triggered by events in
other communist states rather than a desire to trick party opponents. In 1956, Soviet Union leader
Nikita Khrushchev launched an attack on the previous leader Joseph Stalin, dead now for three years,
and his cult of personality, Mao probably saw how his own popularity adulating portraits of him were

My Love Of Science
I grew up in a rough home environment, where my escape was to invest as much time as I could in
learning. My favorite type of learning was chemistry at least that s what I learned that it was called it
as I got older. My grandfather owned a small pool and spa service company and I would always want
to go to jobs with him, this is where I learned about the basics of chemistry and biology. Each time I
went on the job with him I would receive a small amount of money at the end of the day, me being the
ambitious child that I was my eyes lit up, and the journey began. My grandfather is the biggest
sponsor to my literacy in chemistry and biology. Though he knew only a small amount of information
about both of the subjects, I thought that he was an all knowing mastermind. He taught me his ways,
simple water P.H and alkaline level tests and how to interpret the meaning of the results of the tests.
Then what is the best way to address the results with which specific chemicals. Although these events
are what started the snowball effect for my love of the sciences my grandfather was only the first
sponsor of my literacy in science. In primary education, I didn t get much influence with the literacy
in sciences, I believe that the teachers didn t have the compassion about the topics that I did. It wasn t
until high school that I got back in touch with my love for science and my literacy strengthened
beyond basic chemistry and simple biology. I took my first science course in high

How Can Astrology And Horoscope Predictions Are Supposed...
Scientists examine how the world works by making observations, taking measurements, and testing
whether their ideas are supported by evidence. We pay attention to what is happening around us and
try to understand it. When we think we understand how two things relate to each other, we design an
experiment. In this paper, I m going to talk about whether astrology and horoscope predictions are
supposed to be accurate. There are a number of people in our society who put some faith in astrology.
Astrology is the study of the movements and relative positions of celestial objects as a means for
divining information about human affairs and terrestrial events, and horoscope is based on the
Ptolemaic system that the earth is stationary, and moves around the sun in fixed patterns. Astrology
divides the sky into twelve sections, with the different sign of the zodiac based on the mythological
characteristics of the heavenly bodies (Aries, Leo, Aquarius, Cancer, Taurus, Virgo, Libra, Pisces,
Sagittarius, Capricorn, Gemini, and Scorpio). Some astrologers believe that time of birth, especially
the hours and minutes, is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A common claim is that horoscopic astrology make the pre assumption that our mind is connected to
the universe and read important characteristics about a person. Therefore, astrologists believe that a
person s behavior, emotions, and fate were heavily influenced by the month of that person s birth.
Most people reads a prediction that something interesting would happen, they will looking forward for
that to happen, somehow they have a convenience then that event is on the way. By this cased, they
might think that the predicted of astrology was true. This may be a little harsh because horoscopes
might be of some value if they were usually right or pretty close even they are not quite perfect, but
you probably even know someone who has told you about how perfect their horoscope matched what
happened to them

Was Reconstruction A Success Or Failure Essay
Reconstructions Successes, Failures, and Legacy The Reconstruction Era of 1865 1877 proved to be
one of triumph and disappointments for many. The end of the Civil War brought on feelings of
freedom and the vision of great things on the horizon for slaves. At the same time, feelings of despair
and that the Civil War was a lost cause was a common feeling among many white Americans.
Freedom, even though still limited, was viewed as a success by black people. The organization of the
Freedmen s Bureau was viewed as a success. The Freedmen s Bureau provided former slaves and
underprivileged white southern people social, educational, and economics services. Blacks won
election to the southern state governments and even to the U.S. Congress during this period
(Reconstruction, 1). The passing of the 14th and 15th Amendment were also viewed as successes.
These laws protected civil rights and allowed for voting, no matter the color of your skin. The
Enforcement Act of 1870 was also viewed as a success because it upheld the 13th Amendment that
gave slaves freedom. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The black codes can be viewed as a failure because blacks, even after Reconstruction began, still had
stipulations. They could be arrested for not providing proof of employment or residence or for just
acting out. They, then, were forced into labor on farms or road crews (The American Journey: A
History of the United States, 362). Violence and terror came in the form of the Ku Klux Klan. The
Klan s goal was to intimidate black people and deter them from voting and seeking a better life for
themselves. Some other failures were Jim Crow Laws, because they encouraged racial segregation,

  • 2. Afro-descendants in Latin America Essay There are currently 150 million Afro descendants in Latin America who make up nearly 30 percent of the region s population (Congressional Research Service, 2005). Out of the fifteen Latin American nations that have recently adapted some sort of multicultural reform, only three give recognize Afro Latino communities and give them the same rights as indigenous groups (Hooker, 2005). Indigenous groups are more successful than afro descendent groups in gaining collective rights and development aid from international NGO s. This study relies heavily on ethnographic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... More specifically, that elites are more apt to give rights to groups small in number because they are less of a threat, and Afro Latinos compose a larger percent of the population in most countries. However, when looking at population size as an indicator of whether blacks or indigenous groups gain collective rights, there is no direct correlation (Hooker, 2005). While it may be the case that population size is an important factor in elite decision making about collective rights, it does not explain the uneven scope of such rights won by blacks and Indians within and across countries (293). Following this logic, Bolivia, a largely indigenous country would not have the progressive indigenous recognition in comparison to other countries like Chile, where the indigenous population is much smaller. Hooker claims indigenous groups are more successful and gaining collective rights due to the view of indigenous groups as a distinct cultural group while Afro decedents are not seen as having a distinct culture, but rather a separate racial group (Hooker, 2005). Wade (1997) also pointed the inequality in epistemology of academics in who study Latin America. AlleyDog.com defines an eyewitness testimony as a situational account of a witness of what is typically a crime or an accident. It is a legal term that essentially describes when a witness or victim is recounting their firsthand experience to another person or to a court. Research has shown that a testimony can be incorrect due factors such as stress, outside peers, misleading question and loss of memory (1998 2017). These things must be taken into account so that a jury does not put an innocent person in prison. • 4. Essay about Deception in William Shakespeare s Twelfth Night Deception in William Shakespeare s Twelfth Night In William Shakespeare s comedic play, Twelfth Night, a recurring theme is deception. The characters in the play used deception for a variety of purposes. Viola s use of deception involves her disguising herself as a man in order to obtain a job with the Duke of Illyria, Orsino. On the other hand, Maria, Olivia s servant, writes a letter to Malvolio in Olivia s handwriting to make Malvolio act foolishly because of his love for Olivia. While some use deception as a means of survival, others use deception to trick others and make them act foolishly. The first example of deception in this play was when Viola decides to disguise herself as a man. Viola barely escapes a shipwreck ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She feels pity for Olivia and herself with the statement Poor lady, she were better love a dream (2.2. 25)! Viola s use of deception causes a cross gender love triangle with which she can not deal. Another example of deception is when Maria, Olivia s servant writes a letter to Malvolio, Olivia s head servant and Maria s coworker. Maria deceives Malvolio by writing in Olivia s handwriting. In the letter she says that Olivia loves men in yellow stockings. Remember who commended thy yellow stockings, and wished to see thee ever cross gartered (2.5. 143 145). Maria knows that Malvolio will follow this ridiculous deed because of this love for his lady Olivia. Sir Toby Belch says, He shall think by the letters that thou wilt drop that they come from my niece, and that she s in love with him (2.3. 154 156). Maria places the letter in her garden where Malvolio will definitely find it. Thinking Olivia will fall in love with him because of his clothing, Malvolio dress up in yellow stockings and goes to see Olivia. When Olivia sees Malvolio and the way he is acting, she isolates him for fear that he is insane. Shakespeare s use of cross dressing and deceitfulness extends beyond the actual writings in the plays and goes onto the stage. Women were not allowed to perform on stage in Shakespeare s time. . ..all the great women s roles in Elizabethan and Jacobean plays, from Juliet and Lady Macbeth to the duchess of Malfi, were written to be ... A quick decision made during a fit of rage can have an enduring impact on your life, and its often not a good one. Many public sector jobs are highly demanding and a higher level of self control and customer service skills are likely required. For instance, police officers and restaurant servers work with the public. These average citizens can be tested by unexpected situations that place both their patience and character in the hot seat. • 11. The Music Video Of Hong Kong Blur, a British band, released their official music video of the song, Ong Ong , on June 3rd 2015. The whole music video is weird to most people because of its image covering with pink color and cute figures. The song is from the album called The Magic Whip. According to the video featuring the interviews of makings this album, the song is made in Hong Kong, and the song s name, Ong Ong is actually derived from Hong Kong. This means that the song is about Hong Kong, and a lot of locations in Hong Kong are mentioned in the lyrics as well ( Blur The Magic Whip: Made in Hong Kong. ). All in all, we can assume that there are some connections between the issues in Hong Kong and the cute music video. Instead of heavy, sad and relatively direct presentation of the status in Hong Kong, they choose to present vague metaphors that cannot easily be discovered because it will result in serious trouble if addressed directly in public. With the reason above and that the band members think Hong Kong is a cute place, they developed a main strategy, which is to introduce Hong Kong to their fans with a series of cute, relaxing, and seemly meaningless emotion of blur, just as their band s name. In order to pass their message carefully and vaguely, they use fantasy, funny villains, and, most of all, strong images. • 12. Scout Reflection On Saturday, the 28th of October, I presented Earth Rocks to Cub Scouts who were earning their Merit Badge. As I now reflect on the two sessions I taught that day, I wonder if I could have ever been truly prepared for them. I believed I had everything lined out and timed to take us right up to the time their session was over. However, that was not the case because the scouts knew a considerable amount more about the subject than I realized. I feel honored to have been able to work with such intelligent groups of scouts. During the first session, I quickly realized that these Cub Scouts knew an impressive amount about the information I was presenting, so I forced myself to change how I was presenting the material. I engaged the scouts into the material by asking each one tons of questions about what they already knew. Then I made sure they stayed busy with hands on activities that really engrossed them into the material. I believe that when I had to change my lesson plans on the spot, I did decently well. I was able to better grab the scouts attention and help them learn more information than before they walked into the session. One of the most challenging ideas I tried to teach to the scouts would have to be about geographical surroundings and the geographical materials that make up the buildings. I feel as if I did not know enough about the subject matter, or how to present it correctly in a way that was truly benefiting the scouts. However, the scout leaders were ... • 16. Importance Of Teaching Reasoning And Proof Teaching Reasoning and Proof As educators and as students it is pivotal to emphasize the importance of reasoning and proof in the classroom. By doing such, students will develop a higher level of thinking not only in the classroom but in the real world as well. In secondary education, it is only a short period of time until students are faced with complex thinking that is not specific to any textbook. In education specifically students will have to approach problems in different directions. This is something that takes a bit of adjusting to if that student is not previously exposed to reasoning and proofs. Very young students make conjectures all the time. It is one of the beauties of preschool and kindergarten. At this stage of life, kids are very curious about most subjects. In the case of geometry, a preschool student starts to recognize the similarities of a square and a cube. They obviously may not be able to reason what the volume of the cube is, but they start to recognize the similarities. This is a tremendous aspect that shouldn t be looked over. It is important to continue and develop these students and not let that curiosity diminish. That curiosity is the drive in education. At this age, educators should focus on the basics of reasoning. There aren t many formulas for these kids, they are just being exposed to the process. It makes sense for the teachers to spend more time on the reasoning early; in return the student s brains will start to develop those ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 18. Loyalty In Sophocles Antigone Throughout history, scholars, poets, and socialites cite and argue multiple aspects within Sophocles plays, which all contain a deluge of sentiments that permeate global society and culture. Riddled with disparate interpretations and theories, Antigone sparks acrimonious debate regarding a plethora of its details, such as characterization, theme, and undertone. Antigone, written by the Ancient Greek playwright Sophocles, recounts the events of Oedipus daughter, Antigone, following her brothers deaths. Sophocles manipulates Antigone s character to model the loyal, dutiful individual the Greeks idolized in their religion and culture rather than formulating a realistic character who serves herself. These attributes of loyalty and duty emerge ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To illustrate, Antigone articulates to Ismene that Creon lacks the power to prohibit her from burying Polyneices (Prologue, line 35). Disregarding Creon s powers, Antigone extends both her immaturity and recklessness in amanner that both generates a hazy impression of Antigone s plausibility and discredits her personality because of the seldom conflict between the king and women in Ancient Greece. Furthermore, characters such as Eurydice and Jocasta, who experience much more tragedy, diverge from Antigone in the course of their reactions. While Jocasta and Eurydice grieve for their loved ones and succumb to the sorrow, Antigone s reaction exists at the opposite end of the spectrum where she acts with the sole intent to spite Creon. Continuing, Antigone dictates that she is not afraid of the danger; if it means death, / It will not be the worst of deaths death without honor (Prologue, lines 80 81). Recognizing her inevitable fate, Antigone makes little effort to alter her actions or consequences. Her proud acceptance of her death, which she claims to be one of honor, projects her arrogance and stubbornness toward her situation. This immediate compliance fails to reflect the true outlook and reaction toward approaching death both today and in her time. Additionally, the diatribe provided by Antigone to the chorus near her death sparks much criticism when she asserts that she prays Creon s punishment equals her own when the truth of her actions emerges (Scene 4, lines 67 69). Antigone s blatant assault on Creon s life conveys her ignorance, which also transmits the impossibility of her individuality. Sophocles employs Antigone to generate the generalized perspective of tyranny Conversely, many individuals justify Antigone s reckless behavior ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As a result of Suryavarman s dedication to create reflections of gods and religion, it is inferred that religion and society were intimately linked throughout the Angkorian period. Owen intends to shock us by presenting the reality he is feeling, this is why I had chosen this to be one of my poems Owen usesgraphic descriptions, speaking in a very direct and straightforward way, using words that convey ugliness and also shows the reality of war which clearly changes our thoughts of war in the end. Wilfred Owens captivating poem Disabled relates to the after effects of what war can be responsible for. The poem depicts an ironic contrast between a strong limbed, handsome youth hero in battle and a wrecked body in a wheelchair which occurs when a man becomes horribly wounded. His themes are clear that there is no glory in war and war strips men of their youth. Owen demonstrates how naive the minds of young boys were during the period of the war. Quotes such as Aye, that was it, to please the giddy jilts or Someone said he d look a god in kilts suggests that he joined the army to impress others and to maintain this popular image that he seemed to possess. Then the quotes Germans he scarcely thought of he had no fears and He thought of jewelled hilts for daggers in plaid socks of smart salutes further demonstrates that the young soldier clearly has no real view on what war ... Its primary purpose was to establish a secure, malleable, and a solid financial system which was to prevent financial devastation during times of crisis (Investopedia). The coefficient for elasticity of demand measures the relationship between two variables. A formula for figuring out the coefficient of elasticity of demand is: (percentage change in quantity) / (percentage change in price). The coefficient will be the percentage change in quantity demanded in response to a one percent change in price, and will determine is if the demand for a good is elastic (eod gt;1) or inelastic (eod lt;1). Knowing the coefficient for the demand of a product gives a business the edge because they will know when to make adjustments to price in order to increase the demand for a product. Cross price elasticity, Income elasticity, and Elasticity of demand all have different coefficient formulas. The difference between cross price elasticity and income elasticity is that cross price elasticity measure the percentage of change in demand of a product in relation to change in price, while income elasticity measures changes in demand in relation to changes in income. The difference between these two and elasticity of demand is that elasticity of demand measures the responsiveness of demand to a change in price. Elasticity of demand determines whether a company can increase or reduce their price on a product, and is therefore detrimental to a company that is trying to maximize their profits. Cross price ... In his Contradictions speech, given to leading party workers in early 1957, Mao complained of the oppressive way some party officials were applying policies and hinted that it was time to begin permitting intellectuals to voice their opinions. Furthermore, in 1956, he had been tolerant of Hu Feng, a writer who challenged the idea that all artistic merit should be judged based on Marxist Leninist values, even as other CCP leaders viciously censured him.
