History
Basketball was born in the U.S.A in 1891, was
invented by James Naismith Priest born in
Canada, the priest travelled to Massachusetts as
a teacher of “physical culture”
The field
Basketball is played in a rectangular field (28 m long by
15m wide). Divided in 2 halves by a centre line. The
free throw line is 5.80m. The triple line is 6.25m and
wen you score in that distance you score 3 points. And
the height of the basket is 3.05m from the ground.
The technique.
-The bounce:
• The hand should be open , the fingers spread to
have more contact with the ball .
• Not be rigid when throws the ball.
• The contact with the ball: fingers and first part of
the palm.
• We must peer the ball when we shoot to
• see the game situation.
The passes
• We have kinds of pass:
• Chest pass: the ball go from the chest, with both
hands, to your mate.
• Bounce pass: It is like the chest pass, but
bouncing in the middle of you and your mate.
• Over head pass: You lift the ball with both hands
above the head and while you are taking a step
forward must launch with both hands.
Types of shooting
• Types of shooting:
• -Jum shot:
It is the most basic basketball shot and you can do this shootfrom anywhere on the
floor.
• -Free shot:
This shot takes place after personal foul is from the free throw are and without
opposition.
• -Layup:
The layup is the most effective and highpercentage shots in basketball.
• -Hook:
You must stand laterally from the basket. It takes the ball with your hand and throw
over your head.
• -Dunk:
You must to jump and get to the basket with the ball in a hand.
How to play
• -Duration: A basketball matches is composed of 4 times 10 minutes
each.
• -Players: A basketball team have 12 players , of this only 5 can be on
the field and the coach can change the players.
• -Scoring: When the ball ggoes into the basket, you score 2 points,
but when you score in the line of 6.25m you score 3 points. And
when you score in the free shotyou score 1 point
• -Starting the game: Two players, one of each team, must be placed
in the centre circle of the pitch and the referer throw the ball up
and the 2 players jump to catch the ball.
Basic rules
• Steps/travelling: With the ball in your hands, you only can give 2 steps , if you do more than
2 is fault, steps.
• Doubles:
You cannot throw or bounce the ball with 2 hands.
If you catch the ball after bouncing, you can´t bounce again.
You cannot jumpand start to run. You must pass or shoot before.
• 5 seconds:
If you take the ball you can´t be 5 seconds with the ball in your hands.
• 8 seconds:
The ball has 8 seconds to exit their field and move to the opposite field.
• 24 seconds:
When a team have the possesion of the ball has 24 seconds to shoot baskets, if you do not,
pass possession the opposing team.
• Field back:
When a player with the ball is in the opponent cannot:
• Passing the ball to a teammate who is in own field.
Back dribbling to his own field.
Step the centre line.
• Personal fouls:
A personal fouls is when an infraction happens when the player do this:
Push or hit to another player.
Prevent a movement.
Touch the arm or hand in the time when shot the opponent.
