Basketball was invented in 1891 by James Naismith in Massachusetts. The game is played on a rectangular court with dimensions of 28m by 15m, divided in half by a center line. There are different types of passes, shots, and rules that govern play. A regulation game consists of 4 quarters of 10 minutes each, with 5 players per team on the court at a time, trying to score by shooting the ball through the hoop to earn points that vary based on where on the court the shot is taken.
