What is biomechanics
• Bio means life
• Mechanics means science
concerned with the forces
and the effect of these
forces on the body
What is Biomechanics
• It is a scientific study
of the mechanics of
biological system
• It is a study of structure
and function of biological
systems by the use of
means and methods of
mechanics. Hatze H,1974
What is biomechanics
• Biomechanics is the science concerned with
the internal and external forces acting on a
human body and the effects produced by
these forces
What is Mechanics
• It is a branch of physics concerned with
the action of forces on the bodies,
• Mechanics has two major division, statics
and Dynamics
• Static : The study of forces acting
to produce equilibrium
• Dynamic : The study of forces
acting to produce motion. Dynamic
is further subdivided into the two
area of the study, kinematics and
kinetics
Kinematic
• Kinematics : It is concerned with the
description of movements in time and
space. Example, displacement, velocity,
and acceleration without regards to the
forces that bring about the action
Kinetics
• Kinetics : It is concerned with the
forces that cause motions, not with
the description of movements.
• Example : muscular contraction,
gravity, momentum
Dynamics
Kinetics
Kinetics
Inertia
Mass
Weight
Force
Power
Pressure
Momentum
Work
Newton’s law
Impulse
Couple of force
Moment of inertia
Lever
Angular momentum
What is Linear
• Linear means in a
straight line.
• Object moves in linear
motion means , object
and its all particles
moves in same direction
for same distance, in a
straight line from one
point to other point.
• Example : 100 mtrs
sprint. Approach run in
Javelin ets.
What is Angular
• Angular means movement take
place in angle rather than straight
line.
• Movements take place around a fix
axes, in a curvature path, so all part
of the body move through the same
angle, in same time and in same
direction.
• The travelled distance from initial
point is measure in a angle
• Example : golf etc
