Claro combines these two approaches to deliver holistic innovation
 Builds things up
 Lateral associations, intuition,
stories
 User inspired
 Iterative, frequent adaptations
 Keeps options “alive”
 Integrates constraints
 Embraces risks and fails early
through prototypes/tests
 Breaks things down
 Exhaustive analysis and priorities
 Customer validated
 Linear, defined approach
 Prioritises to close
 Circumvents constraints
 Minimises risks through thorough
analysis

“Trying to determine the market size of the Internet

imagine that plastics could be in everything.”

What exactly is
service design?
31 |
The five principles of service design
BE USER-CENTRED
it’s all about people
CO-CREATE
design with, not just for
ESTABLISH A SEQUENCE
a service is a flow of correlated actions
DEFINE CONCRETE TOUCHPOINTS
services are experienced through physical contact points
THINK HOLISTICALLY

  • #3 Global Event
  • #4 Today – Friday 07th of March18:30 –Introduction, Inspiration, Info19:15 – Playtime- Warm up 19:30 – Brainstorm, Cluster and Identify20:30 – Idea selection and Team Creation21:00 – Team Love
  • #7 We are an international team from 12 countries, all with diverse cultural, educational and professional backgrounds:
  • #8 Balanced thinking, establishing partners in all three bubbles
  • #9 Design thinking here includes social science (non-traditonal, qualitative understanding of people to build up from and create associations about)Design thinking can be a confusing term, some see the total as integrative thinkingSo this is a comparison step by step – and there is value on both sides We don’t reject left brain thinking, we integrate itThis is one of our unique selling points
  • #11 Does de audience know about IoT? We can ask about what people knows about it? And introduce.
  • #12 Mention the interviewees and some of the companies they represent:(ANIMATION)
  • #13 Sounds simple? It is; it’s not a whole new “industry”, but rather is simply the internet expanding into the physical world. It will provide brand new capabilities to us – the user – but it will still be about services that are meaningful and bring value to people and companies. It’s not all that foreign a concept – in fact many IoT-enabled services are already here.
  • #14 Data is what flows between the internet and things - and we think the real value of the IoT will be built on top of it as services and applications. The IoT is an interaction of internet, things and data. However, the key ingredient in the formula is data. Data plays a huge part in the IoT, and is the connection that represents – or embodies - the “thing” online. The networks of data online then give it an ongoing presence in the digital space.Data is also a massive output of the interactions between things and the internet.Internet + data = the internetThings + data = purely M2M

It will provide brand new capabilities to us – the user – but it will still be about services that are meaningful and bring value to people and companies. It’s not all that foreign a concept – in fact many IoT-enabled services are already here.
  • #18 Example: Lockitron and GNL – both in effect switches, but they deliver a very different experience
  • #19 (BUILD 1)There are “intranets of things” which are often little ecosystems which are developed by companies with their own devices and software. eg. FedexSenseaware(BUILD 2)Then, there are developers and IoT creators (designers, strategists, etc.) who are trying their best to put the parts together and make something from fragmented resourcesLeif, Don’t Flush MeSo, to start connecting things and creating interesting new capabilities around them, companies need to “nurture the IoT” – to make it easier for people and companies to build stuff on top of it.(BUILD 3) Xively(BUILD 4)Nike+ Accelerator
  • #20 (BUILD 1)There are “intranets of things” which are often little ecosystems which are developed by companies with their own devices and software. eg. • #21 No one company is going to build and manage the IoT – it’s just so enormous, diverse, varied. It’s like saying one company would manage the internet – there are some important players but it’s enormous and each player has a role. The IoT will be the same (remember – it’s the internet moving into the real world)
  • #22 We see the real value of the IoT not coming from connecting things to the internet in itself (“look, my cat is connected to the internet!”), but from the services you can build on top of that connection: “Look, I can find my cat’s location at any time and use those data points to make a 3D virtual map of my garden!”.So, much like the revolution we’ve seen around apps developed for smartphones and tablets, the IoT will open up new opportunities for us to develop services around the way we live.
  • #23 Following on from the previous point, many of these players will be people like you, not established companies. With the revolution in making and hacking, and individuals being able to produce their own products and services – without having to use the traditional tools and channels, the evolution of the IoT will surely be largely in the hands of the people. Which leads us to… (NEXT)
  • #24 Sounds obvious, but the interactions, design and delivery of an IoT-enabled product and service are multi-dimensionaleg. BERG Little Printer. When developing solutions in this space, you need to consider every aspect. Where developing software has its own challenges and product development likewise, these connected devices need an understanding and management of both those areas. We’ll see more of this later.

  • #40 A prototype is an early version of a thing, that allows you to test your assumptions and get input on how to improve your idea. Instead of describing your idea, you make it tangible. Either in 2D or 3D. Does not have to work, but supports dialogue with your thoughts and help others to imagine what using the service can be like. We do this to test what aspects of the idea work well and what aspects don’t. When you have an idea in your head, it is easy to get carried away with it and loose check of reality
