Evaluation – Barbering Brief
Upon receivingthe brief,we were informed we were creating something for a real client,
meaning we would have to create exactly what the client had asked for, in as much detail as
possible.After recently completing the project, I believe I have achieved this to a high standard.
When it came to filmingfor the tutorial video,after completing all of the pre production, I
believe it all went well and to plan. Before filmingwe each created a storyboard along with a list
stating which camera angles we wanted at which time - this helped us a lot when filming as we
could read back and reference which shot type to use at that point. As a group, we worked well
together as we each committed to a role we were comfortable with, meaning the process ran
smoothly. After discussing the main three role’s, Sophie Gibson took the role of being the
director while me and Sophie Reed worked both camera’s.
Furthermore, when the filmingprocess was complete, we made our way back to beginediting. I
started by watching through each of the video’sI had taken, and removing those which
wouldn’t make the final cut ( some were perhaps accidently taken, or didn’t include anything
important to the video and would therefore take up time ), which took me some time but I felt
was worth it as I began to picture how I would edit each of them together. After reviewingthose
I had taken, I went over and watched all of those Sophie Reed had shot ( mainly things like close
ups / extreme close ups as I wasn’t able to get these at times ) and began to order them so that I
was aware of the points they followedmy own.
Overall, I think the editingprocess went quite well.There were times in which the software
became difficultto use due to differentproblems, but I was able to overcome these. I decided
to have my opening shot be the close up of the barbering equipmentalong with the text on
screen as this was suitable for what the client had asked, as well as fitting the theme of
barbering. Accompanied on each shot is the Sunderland College Logo. I decided to include this
throughout the entire video since a member of the college asked us to make the video,along
with making the audience aware of the creators almost. Followingthis, I believe that the audio I
chose for the background music fitthe theme of a barbering video, as well as creating a chilled
mood for the mise en scene.
Editing the clips themselves,I made the decision not to include any transitions, as in my opinion
I think it helpedthe video run smoothly, as well as it coming across more professionally.
Throughout the video, I followed a lot of my clips with Sophie’s meaning that it was almost a
transition in itself going from my clip to her’s showing Mark doing the same action in both, but
just perhaps at a differentangle. Once completed, I am happy with this decision I made as I
think the video’sdo each run as smooth as they should.
Duringthe pre productionprocess,the clienttoldusthattextonscreen( steps) couldbe useful,
therefore once all of myvideoswere together, IwentthroughandaddedtextwhenIbelieve was
needed,justtoadda little more detail towhatishappeninginthatmoment.Reachingalarger
audience,thiscouldalsobe helpful forthose withlossof hearing.
I do believe thatmycompletedbarbering tutorial videofitsthe brief successfully, andIam happy
withthe outcome.

Barbering evaluation

  • 1. Evaluation – Barbering Brief Upon receivingthe brief,we were informed we were creating something for a real client, meaning we would have to create exactly what the client had asked for, in as much detail as possible.After recently completing the project, I believe I have achieved this to a high standard. When it came to filmingfor the tutorial video,after completing all of the pre production, I believe it all went well and to plan. Before filmingwe each created a storyboard along with a list stating which camera angles we wanted at which time - this helped us a lot when filming as we could read back and reference which shot type to use at that point. As a group, we worked well together as we each committed to a role we were comfortable with, meaning the process ran smoothly. After discussing the main three role’s, Sophie Gibson took the role of being the director while me and Sophie Reed worked both camera’s. Furthermore, when the filmingprocess was complete, we made our way back to beginediting. I started by watching through each of the video’sI had taken, and removing those which wouldn’t make the final cut ( some were perhaps accidently taken, or didn’t include anything important to the video and would therefore take up time ), which took me some time but I felt was worth it as I began to picture how I would edit each of them together. After reviewingthose I had taken, I went over and watched all of those Sophie Reed had shot ( mainly things like close ups / extreme close ups as I wasn’t able to get these at times ) and began to order them so that I was aware of the points they followedmy own. Overall, I think the editingprocess went quite well.There were times in which the software became difficultto use due to differentproblems, but I was able to overcome these. I decided to have my opening shot be the close up of the barbering equipmentalong with the text on screen as this was suitable for what the client had asked, as well as fitting the theme of barbering. Accompanied on each shot is the Sunderland College Logo. I decided to include this throughout the entire video since a member of the college asked us to make the video,along with making the audience aware of the creators almost. Followingthis, I believe that the audio I chose for the background music fitthe theme of a barbering video, as well as creating a chilled mood for the mise en scene. Editing the clips themselves,I made the decision not to include any transitions, as in my opinion I think it helpedthe video run smoothly, as well as it coming across more professionally. Throughout the video, I followed a lot of my clips with Sophie’s meaning that it was almost a transition in itself going from my clip to her’s showing Mark doing the same action in both, but just perhaps at a differentangle. Once completed, I am happy with this decision I made as I think the video’sdo each run as smooth as they should.

Duringthe pre productionprocess,the clienttoldusthattextonscreen( steps) couldbe useful, therefore once all of myvideoswere together, IwentthroughandaddedtextwhenIbelieve was needed,justtoadda little more detail towhatishappeninginthatmoment.Reachingalarger audience,thiscouldalsobe helpful forthose withlossof hearing. I do believe thatmycompletedbarbering tutorial videofitsthe brief successfully, andIam happy withthe outcome.
