       The Physical Education Staff at San Marin High School is
        committed to helping all students gain an appreciation of
        the LIFETIME benefits of pursuing healthy living through
        activity, wellness, and social interaction.
       We pledge to maintain a non-threatening environment
        where all students are free to challenge themselves.
       We are dedicated to helping the students grow for life.
Physical Education at
San Marin High School
   Students are required by law to take two
    years of Physical Education
       PE Course 1
           Freshmen
       PE Course 2
           Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors
       Can opt out of PE 2 if you:
           Pass PE 1
           Pass 5 of 6 Fitness Tests
               Mile, Push ups, Curl Ups,
               Flexibility, Trunk Lift, BMI
Other PE Options

   Weightlifting
       Must take and pass PE1 as freshmen



   Yoga
       Must take and pass PE1 as freshmen
Grading
   65% Activity Cards
Grading
   15% Written Work
       Includes test, quizzes, and any other written work that may be assigned
       This also will include any group projects


   20% Fitness
       Includes all runs and other fitness related activities
       1 timed run per week
Medical Excuses
   Parent Notes
       By state law a parent may request an excuse for up to three consecutive
        days. A written note from a parent or guardian must be turned into the
        instructor on the day of the excuse. The note is only good for that day and
        must be dated and signed with a phone number
       Non-participants will be required to “DRESS-OUT” and observe activities
        along with an academic assignment.

   Medical Notes
       After three days, a physician’s note is needed and will be honored for as
        long as the doctor designates.
       Students will not be required to dress-out
       Effort points may be awarded for completing a special assignment
       Student may be sent to the library to work on the special assignment after
        reporting to the teacher for attendance.
How can you help?

   Do not allow your child to opt out

   Encourage them to exercise at home

   Lead by example

   Provide healthy food options
