4.  Baby oils are semi solid preparation (usually
containing a medicine) applied externally as
a remedy or for soothing an irritation
 Baby oil is an ointment for babies.

5.  Oils have a softening and moisturizing effect on
skin.
 Historically, product design has been simple and
straight forward with high purity, low viscosity
mineral oil.
 Recently, the design approach to baby oil ,motivated
by the requirement to deliver an effective cleanser
with lower greasiness has changed.
 Many methods have been developed ,one of which is
extensive use of vegetable based oils such s soya
been, jojoba oil.

6. In formulation of baby oil, bland vegetable oils like;
 ground nut oil,
 Mineral oil,
 Lanolin derivatives and
 Some higher alcohols can be used.
 The most popular brands of baby oils contain mineral
oil of high purity without perfume or a trace of
perfume with solubilizer.

9.  As baby oils should supply good nutrients to the scalp
and hair. Hence they are a made with pure natural oils.
 Sample method is followed.
 The substances are mixed out light heating ,if required
add some anti-oxidant.

10.  Keep yourself warm when the weather’s cold
 Massage your stress away with baby oil!
 Remove make up with Johnson's baby oil!
 Use baby oil to remove bubble gum.

12. Baby powders are not much different than those
ordinary talcum powders except that these are not so
highly perfumed and may contain an antiseptic
ingredient.

13.  Talc is the most important ingredient of baby talcum
powder as it has excellent slip and good adhesion.
 Particle size, shape are important characteristics for
baby powders.
 Baby powders are used mainly as lubricants in skin
folds to prevent chafing, to adsorb perspiration and to
relieve prickly heat.
 Boric acid is prohibited in baby skin powders .
therefore ,it should not be included in the formulation
of B.Ps

15.  Starches have been used in baby powders as major
ingredient replacing talc.
 Starches are used with 0.05%methyl benzathonium
chloride as antiseptic.
 Though starches do not dust as readily as talc but have
excellent absorptive capacities.

16.  Chemically modified starches ,have water repellent
properties.
 They have excellent absorptive capacities.
Disadvantages of starch
based baby powders:
 Starch becomes sticky when moisture with water, thus
making the powder paste.
 Moistened starch favors' growth of micro organisms.

17. MANUFACTURE:

18.  For the manufacture of baby powders same method is
followed like talc powders.
 First a suitable mixer is selected.
 Mixers like vertical blenders , horizontal drum mixers
are used.
 Mixing time can be greatly reduced by pulverising the
powers before mixing.
 Perfume is added directly to mixture.

20.  Using after bath absorbs excess moisture especially
from folds.
 Minimizes the irritation caused by diaper rash.
 Used to reduce the friction that is caused during
shaving with an electric razor.
 Used to remove grease stains from cloths.
 Absorbs oil from the face when applied.
