Why Did The Aurora Borealis Exist
The Aurora Borealis
Despite a distance of 93 million miles, the sun provides us with heat, energy, and the mystical
Aurora Borealis. There are many beliefs for why the Aurora Borealis exists; the Inuit believe that
the spirits of their ancestors can be seen in the Aurora Borealis. Norse Mythology states that the
Aurora Borealis is a fire bridge to the sky built by the gods. But because of science, we now know
that the sun causes the Aurora Borealis.
What Causes the Aurora Borealis?
The surface of the sun is worlds away. But on that surface, immense storms rage across the surface.
These storms hurtle gusts of charged solar particles across the abyss of space. If the Earth happens
to be in the path of the particles, the particles collide with molecules and atoms in the Earth s
atmosphere. These atoms become stimulated by the sun s particles and light up. But what happens
to cause the atoms to light up is where things start to get interesting. Atoms are made up of a
nucleus and a cloud of electrons circling this nucleus. When the sun charged particles hit the atoms
in the Earth s atmosphere; energy is transferred to the electrons, causing them to move further away
from the nucleus. But as those electrons lose energy, they move closer to... Show more content on

Saturn s Aurora Borealis was exactly the same as Earth s. The Aurora on Saturn is generated from
charged particles released by the sun interacting with Saturn s atmosphere, causing them to glow.
The Aurora appears at the poles because the ringed planet s magnetic field forces them pole ward,
exactly like on Earth. Jupiter is just the same. The Aurora Borealis appears at both poles for the
exact same reason as Earth and Saturn. But different than Earth, Jupiter s Aurora had multiple
bright streaks and dots instead of the common curtain shape. After much research, scientists
discovered that some of Jupiter s largest moon s magnetic fields were to

Analysis Of Google s On Data Exhaust Essay
Data Exhaust Google By utilizing the millions of misspelled words in the billions of searches it
processes every day, Google was able to create it s spell checker for free (something that
Microsoft spent a considerable amount of time and money to create). Google then created an
ingenious way to confirm that it s algorithm displayed the correct word by asking users to click
to confirm on the corrected search results. In addition, google took their algorithm a step further
by looking at the text of the web pages that they click on as the page that the user selects as the
page likely has the word spelled correctly if the user selected it. This allows google to continually
improve their spell check and also makes it easily available for any language that is typed into
their search engine. This data also has additional uses beyond spell check, such as their
autocomplete feature that is available across most of the google ecosystem and the translation
services that they offer9. Facebook Jeff Hammerbacher, a data scientist at facebook, found that
when people saw their friends making posts or sharing content that they were more likely to post
content themselves. Once facebook made this realization, they redesigned their site to make
activities by users friends more prominent in order to create a cycle of new content9. Amazon
Amazon now has a trove of data available to it from the thousands of e books that it sells through
its kindle platform. For example, they are able to

The Real Life Grind Analysis
The Real Life Grind
Most men indeed as well as most sects in religion, think themselves in possession of all truth, and
that wherever others differ from them it is so far error (Franklin 43). Many people, as Benjamin
Franklin points out in his speech, Speech in the Convention, hold their opinions above others; they
believe that their perspective is the most clear and realistic. Conversely, Albert Camus, a French
philosopher, author and journalist from the 20th century, opposed the general view of the old
Greek myth about Sisyphus s tragic fate. When everyone thought they were correct, Camus
proved them wrong. Camus argued that Sisyphus s fate was not as tragic as it was speculated to
be. He states, The lucidity that was to constitute his torture at the same time crowns his victory. .
. The struggle itself toward the heights is enough to fill a man s heart. One must imagine
Sisyphus happy (Camus 17 18). The general opinion of the Sisyphus s fate was that it is tragic
because he consciously knows that his labor of pushing a boulder up a mountain for eternity
serves no purpose, but Camus suggests that the fact that Sisyphus knows his fate makes him the
champion of it. He is the owner of that fate; Camus goes as far to say that Sisyphus enjoys his
labor because on his way up, he toils to push the boulder and works willingly in spite of the gods
that condemned him to this fate. When Sisyphus reaches the top of the mountain, he feels
triumphant and maybe even improves himself with skills he learned on his way to the top.
Identically, playing video games has the same impression. There is the misconception that playing
such games are a waste of time and are meaningless labor, but if examined meticulously, playing
video games have a similar grind to that of Sisyphus; they teach things to the player that only he or
she can value consciously. Viewing through the scientific lens, video games, albeit not all useful,
can offer educational benefits, such as creativity and data handling skills, collaborative skills, and
career exposure or experience, to students.
As a matter of fact, the act of playing a video game can boost a student s creativity and data
handling. In the article titled Designing Interactive Learning:

Bill Of Rights, The Center Of The American Constitution
Bill of Rights Bill of rights, the center of the American constitution.
The reason that why Bill of rights can be established is the anti federalist thought the constitution
only stipulated that power from government, and the citizen can not get any power from it. In
1788, at the beginning of the United States, all the citizens want the freedom and democracy, then
The Bill of Rights is here. The birth of the Bill of Rights, is the most basic principles of personal
freedom and limited the central government.
There have ten amendments in Bill of Rights, in my point of view, the first and the tenth
amendments is the most important. The first amendment is talk about the freedom and the tenth
amendments is about decentralization. Then i will give some reasons.
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion or prohibiting the free
exercise thereof or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people
peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances. First amendment
talked more about the freedom and separate religion. The freedom is include: the freedom of
religion, of speech, of publish,of assembly, of demonstration, these five freedoms.

A Woman s Right: A Human Issue The works of Mary Wollstonecraft and John Stuart Mill
delved into the subject matter of women s rights and equality. Both authors strike milestone by
composing works regarding forward thinking that discussed women s issues and being the first
or one of first ever to address the subject matter. Mill was influenced by Wollstonecraft with his
book, though he never mentioned that he was because her life very scandalous (extramarital

He argues that from marriage the inception of roots grew in our society started the oppression of
women subconsciously. Mill mentions along with several other roots, like the idea of
predetermination of the role of the family. He discussed the equality and privilege differences for
male and female. Because of inequality in marriage and in the household the image of women was
at risk. Specifically, he confers the methods in which the subordination of women adversely affects
the women, but too the men and children in the family. This subordination hinders and cancels the
moral and intellectual growth of women by limiting their field of activities, subsequently, shoving

Understanding The Chinese Culture Of A Chinese Patient
Many health care professionals think that if patients are just treated with respect, then cultural
issues will be avoided. That statement is not the correct. Five points of area that affect nursing care
when taking care of a Chinese patient, are the cultural beliefs with medical treatments, who and
when to discuss the prognosis and medical treatment to, dietary beliefs, pregnancies beliefs, and
death and dying. Many Chinese people believe in traditional Chinese medical treatments, and if the
doctors and nurses disregard their beliefs, then that could lead to mistrust. Chinese people may try
traditional approaches first, and then seek medical care if they fail. Communication barriers may
delay patients from getting medical treatment. Cross cultural communication skills are extremely
important to avoid miscommunication. A couple accommodations needed in nursing care would be
to take some extra time to build a rapport with the patient before discussing any medical issues.
Recognize how the Chinese cultureviews doctors and nurses, and encourage the patient to ask
questions, and give them a chance to answer the questions. In the Chinese culture, when the patient
is slow to respond to a question, or seems to be hesitant, it is simply a sign that respect is being
given to the person that is asking the question (Cross Cultural Communications for Healthcare
Professionals, 2015). Chinese people speak in low volume and considered Americans to speak
loud, so health care

The Affect Of Music Piracy On The Music Industry
Samuel LeGrand Mrs. Turner English 1301.85 11/19/15 Music Piracy and the Impact It Can
Make on the Music Industry For over a decade now music piracy has threatened the music
industry by costing it money, and stealing from it. Peer to peer file sharing has been somewhat
of a red flag for the music industry ever since Napster, a once highly used file swapping network,
came into the picture. Napster and the websites similar to it made it possible for people to trade
files downloaded onto their computer through the internet for free. What that means is that
someone who had downloaded the new NSYNC album could give it away to however many
people could access it and no one had to pay a penny. The big deal about that is the fact that the
artists who worked for months to make that album did not get paid. The only money they saw was
from the people who actually went out and physically paid for the CD.... Show more content on

Batman And Mr Freeze Fortune Review
Batman and Mr Freeze Fortune Review
Online slot developers have drawn from an endless source of pop culture references and
intellectual properties, all in the effort to bring you a casino experience featuring characters and
settings you know and love. This brand new release proudly draws from the 1960s TV show
featuring Batman and Mr Freeze, while cautiously avoiding any reference to the Schumacher film
that hardly did the characters justice.
The number of slots games featuring comic book characters has increased quite considerably over
the past several years, with Batman and Mr Freeze Fortune looking to get in the hunt. Question is,
will this Ash Gaming release live up to hype? Tuck into our review below to find out!
Like a 1960s crime fighting caper
Developed by up and coming industry name Ash Gaming, Batman and Mr Freeze Fortune draws
inspiration from its earlier titles. That being said, while still offering several of its own unique
features, this game manages to pay sufficient homage to its source material. Batman and Mr Freeze
Fortune game draws mostly from the campy 1960s movie featuring Adam West. As can be
expected it is lovingly cheesy and self referential all throughout.
Plenty of homages and references to the show can be seen, and older fans of the series will be
delighted by the nostalgic throwback this game represents. Overall, while hammy, the design of
Batman and Mr Freeze Fortune has a certain nostalgic appeal.

Argumentative Essay On Hook Up Culture
There is a lot of faux concern among conservatives about how much more promiscuous
millennials are, as opposed to previous generations and how that sexual freedom is hindering
overall growth and emotional stability. Indeed, a recent study at James Madison University
hooking up or dating: who benefits? conducted by Carolyn Bradshaw and her colleagues, sparked
an outcry for how millennials no longer care for dating, and inspired numerous articles about the
death of chivalry and romance. These concerns, however, are exaggerated. Sex is sex, and as it
turns out, there are more benefits to the no strings attached culture of hookups than critics suggest.
In her most recent article in The Atlantic, Boys on the Side , Hanna Rosin wrote an insightful piece
in which she argues the merits of hook up culture... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The I m a broke college student statement is one that many can identify with. While millennials
are consistently labeled as commitment phobes, the truth is, this lifestyle is embraced mostly
because it s the only one many can financially afford. When one takes into account the amount
that goes towards buying an exclusive partner holiday gifts, anniversary celebrations, birthdays,
for broke college students, the overall sum is preposterous. Add the opportunity cost of spending
time with a partner instead of actually investing that time in one s job, internship, and academic
success, and the numbers go up even more. This is why hook up culture is important. According
to Andrew 21, a typical hookup involves a couple of cheap drinks and having a good time: there
are no rights or wrongs, as long as no one catches feelings . Meha 22, added: hooking up gives
women the opportunity to focus on their personal goals. Instead of investing my time with a
partner who may or may not be in my future in the next 5 years, I get to focus on accomplishing

Explain Why Political Leaders Ignore Intelligence Warnings
Why Do Political Leaders Ignore Intelligence Warnings? Political leaders ignore intelligence
warnings based on several motives. These motives range from cognitive biases and mindsets that
create unrealistic expectation of intelligence and non acknowledgement of relevant intelligence, to
plausible deniability, and the creation of opacity. Both plausible deniability and opacity are
significant motivations, as it takes a conscious action to ignore intelligence warnings, while
mindsets are an unconscious motivation. However, mindsets and cognitive biases play a more
significant role in a political leader s decision to ignore intelligence warnings. Mindsets, in
psychological terms, define a person s mental lens on how they understand their world. These
mental perceptions, or biases, refer to the unconscious influence of a person s belief system and
the simple strategies they use, to make sense of the world they live in. Consequently, these biases
also lead to distortions in an individual s perceptions of reality. The creation of these biases leads to
mindsets that form quickly, as... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Non acknowledgement occurs when a political leader has clear knowledge of some fact or
intelligence report but does not acknowledge it. It occurs most often when a political leader will
substitute their own knowledge for that of the intelligence community s assessment. This non
acknowledgement of intelligence warning is considered politicization of intelligence. Politicization
of intelligence occurs when political leaders guide the information being collected, rather than the
information leading the them, to an outcome. Political leaders politicize intelligence by cherry
picking information that favors their assessment, while ignoring alternative reports. This allows
warnings to be ignored by political leaders who seek exclusive information that align with their
cognitive biases or preferred

Australian Sports Law
Australian Sports Law Introduction Australian sports law is grounded in the principles of Natural
Justice to ensure procedural fairness. Nevertheless, the sports tribunals ability to hold hearings and
make determinations without allowing athletes the benefit of legal counsel is troublesome. Clearly,
the process often involves valuable rights which should be asserted and preserved by
knowledgeable, zealous legal counsel at the first opportunity. The single difference between the
Waverley and Nagle cases shows how issues that are vitally important to an individual can turn on a
single fact; consequently, while Waverley and Nagle did not involve sports tribunals, they do show
the importance of paying careful attention to facts, which also applies to sports tribunals. Finally,
the inclusion of women in sports, particularly Golf, is a natural outgrowth of anti discrimination
laws and progressive Australian attitudes create fertile ground for further attempts by women to
compete with men. Part A: The Natural Justice Process in Sports Tribunals Sports disputes fall into
two general categories: external and internal. External sporting disputes are handled in a state Court
system and generally include: contract or tort; intellectual property; trade practices and
competition; criminal law; taxation; broadcasting and media; and other statutory based disputes
(Bellamy Hayes, 2007, pp. 5 6). Internal sporting disputes are normally handled by sports tribunals

How Did Galileo Galilei Contribute To Chemistry
Who do you think of when you are asked to name a famous chemist, astronomer, and physicist
from the past? When I think of famous chemists, astronomers, and physicists, I think of: Galileo
Galilei, an astronomer; Robert Hooke, a physicist; and George Washington Carver, a chemist.
Galileo, Hooke, and Carver all made great contributions to each of their respective fields of
knowledge and had fascinating lives.
Galileo Galilei made a major contribution, in the field of astronomy and even physics. Galileo
Galilei was born February 15, 1564 (AD) in Pisa, Italy, to Giulia Di Cosimo Ammannati and
Vincenzo Galilei. He had five siblings; Michelangelo Galilei, Benedetto Galilei, Giulia Galilei,
Livia Galilei and Virginia Galileo. His father was a lutenist or, someone who plays the lute, (a

Deafness and Autism share similar characteristics; however, can be confused with each other if
not diagnosed correctly and in a timely manner. The most important of issue is knowing if the
child has a hearing loss or not because I can potentially mask the signs of Autism and a child can
be misdiagnosed (Syzmanski Brice 2008). For example, if a child is not responding it could
because of their hearing loss not Autism. This can lead to isolated play, especially if they do not
have sign language developed. Moreover, if sign language is not developed then this can lead to a
decrease in social interaction with any individuals leading to a greater isolation. Deafness and
Autism are usually both diagnosed within the first two to three years of age. Since they are
diagnosed around the same time that is where confusion can set in. The symptoms can be similar;
however, it is differentiating between whether the child is deaf or has autism or both. Some deaf
children are misdiagnosed with Autism because a hearing screening was not given until later in
years which showed hearing loss. Additionally, there is not a plethora amount of research to discuss
when it comes to deaf individuals with autism. According to Szymanski, Patrick (2008) and the
Gallaudet Research Institute (2005):
In the survey for 2006 2007, researchers reported that there were

The Importance Of Government Censorship
Social media is the pumping heart that gives life to the information that citizens receive. It is not
the only form of communication, however it has become a fundamental method to present our
thoughts, ideas, beliefs, and opinions to other people. It has become a necessity in American
society to use media sites such as Facebook and Twitter to instantaneously access or send
information. When words are censored, it strangles our ability to effectively communicate what we
may be thinking. Similarly, when ideas are censored, our ability to progress as a society and as a
nation is hindered. Censorshiphas been employed by other governments in the past as a method to
influence the way a people may think about or view a topic. Therefore, government censorship of
social media runs the risk of encroaching upon constitutional rights due to overreaching information
control policies.
Although there is an ongoing battle for what amount of censorship media sources should enforce,
there are laws that are already in effect such as the Child Internet Protection Act, which aims to
protect children from explicit material, and the Freedom Act, intended to prevent the government
from accessing huge amounts of information that is found in record files. These laws are put in
place to eliminate any sort of overreach from the government because it was going against civil
rights. This discussion of censorship developed further during an interview when the interviewee
stated, As an American

Financial constraints can be on individual and organisation. For individual there may be change of
behaviour due to financial constraints. When changing your family lifestyle for a better lifestyle
such as buying healthier food it requires more money and organic ingredients which is more
expensive. The limitation of financial constraints on government is it cost lot of money to run the
campaign. Also they may not save money as not everyone has school meals and they don t know if
the campaign works as some children may not have school dinners.
Financial constraints can also affect the culture on people as people have different culture and may
require special dietary need. For example Muslim people need to have halal food so healthier menu
need to reach people personal need. Changing their lifestyle might not meet their need so the

Argumentative Essay On Ariana Grande
On the evening of May 22nd, 2017 at 10:30 pm Ariana Grande was an American singer who had
just recently performed at the Manchester arena to thousands of adoring fans all cohesively
singing to songs that meant something different to each individual. Three minutes later that same
night singing would no longer be heard, and instead the cries of innocent young people prior to
the sound of an explosion released by Salman Abedi. Ariana Grande was now no longer just a
singer, but a victim, and even to some: the cause. More specifically she was an American citizen
caught in an international crisis. Ariana Grande faced a challenge not many people, luckily, have
or ever will face in their lives. The actions she took following this event are ones that

1. The client acceptance process can be quite complex. Discuss five procedures an auditor should
perform in determining whether to accept a client. Which of these five are required by auditing
standards and identify the applicable standards?
1. Obtain an understanding of the client s business and operations. Consideration should be given
to reading available financial information regarding the prospective client such as annual reports,
registration statements, Forms 10 K, other reports to regulatory agencies and income tax returns.
2. Inquire as to the general reputation of high ranking employees, influential directors and
shareholders, as well as the entity itself. Carefully consider any matters that may negatively reflect

In order to minimize the likelihood of association with a client whose management lacks integrity,
Statement on Quality Control Standards No. 2, System of Quality Control for a CPA Firm s
Accounting and Auditing Practice, (QC Section 20.14) (applicable to auditing and accounting and
review services) provides that policies and procedures should be established for deciding whether
to accept or continue a client relationship and to perform a specific engagement for that client (QC
Section 20.14) , to minimize the likelihood of the specific policies and procedures established and
the nature and extent to which they may be documented may vary significantly from firm to firm.
Throughout the process, from initial consideration about accepting or continuing a client to
issuance of an audit report, auditors are faced with risk. This risk can be thought of as having three
components:
В• The entity s business risk The risk that the entity will not survive or will not be profitable.
В• The auditor s business risk The risk to the auditor from association with the client, consisting of
the risk of potential litigation costs and the related effect on the auditor s reputation and the risk of
other costs (not related to litigation) such as the effects on fee realization.
В• The auditor s audit risk The risk that the auditor may unknowingly fail to appropriately modify

Teens And Gang Violence
About one third of every community experiences some sort of gang violence (Tucker). Although, it
may not directly affect one specific community. It is making a great impact on the new generation.
Gang violence among teens has become more prevalent in today s society. For example, during the
summer of 2017 in Lancaster South Carolina, five teenagers were murdered by other teens in gang
affiliated behaviors. Thus, resulting in imprisonment. The question is how we punish these teens.
Should they receive the death penalty for committing an act of murder? Or should they spend the
rest of their lives in prison with a chance of being released back into society. What is the value of
their lives? Understand they are in the prime of their lives.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Philosopher Michel Foucault s work Discipline and Punish speaks about the changes punishment
and discipline have taken. Punishment has always been used to discourage criminals from unlawful
acts. In the beginning, punishment was aimed at the body through things like corporal punishment.
Now with prison systems in place, the aim is at what Foucault calls the soul . Foucault questions if
these new methods of punishment and discipline are indeed affective.
Commonly the criminals who receive death penalties have committed an act of terrorism, hate
crimes, or murder. There are currently thirty one states in which the death penalty is legalized,
including South Carolina. In the state of South Carolina, by law, a person receives the death
penalty when murder is committed with one of twelve aggravating circumstances. A person who is
convicted of or pleads guilty to murder must be punished by death, or by a mandatory minimum
term of imprisonment for thirty years to life. If the State seeks the death penalty and a statutory
aggravating circumstance is found beyond a reasonable doubt pursuant to subsections (B) and (C),
and a recommendation of death is not made, the trial judge must impose a sentence of life
imprisonment ( Code of Laws ).
The support for and against the death penalty is equally weighted. Those who are for the death
penalty say that it creates both specific and general deterrence. Deterrence is the action of
discouraging an action or event

The Importance Of Industrialization
The early 19th century was a time of technological innovations that took the United States to a new
level of commerce. During this time, the cotton gin, steamboats, power looms, and even the
telegraph were invented (Swen). As these inventions continued to improve the way of life, the
nation continued to spread northeast and west to discover new land. Where a stagecoach may have
taken months to transport goods from east to west, the railroad could transport the merchandise
cross country in just a few days. Lastly, communication through the telegraph simplified the need
for the pony express. Although these inventions changed how these people lived their life, was it
all for the best? Were sacrifices made as individuals, as a family, or even... Show more content on

Now instead of controlling their own future, the nation will become dependent on other people
to succeed in life. Factories did not just hire the man of the family, it hired the whole family.
Children worked in the factories as young as the age of seven which is when Sam Patch first
started at Samuel Slaters White Mill (Johnson p 30). Since the children were small they could
get under the machinery and keep things clear so the machines would continue to run. Some
factories primarily hired young women to operate their facility. As stated in Morals of
Manufactures (1837), young women would leave their families to live in boarding houses owned
by the factories (Martineau). This concept was to protect the women from the evils of the world.
They were required to work fourteen hours a day with thirty minutes for eating twice a day. If that
was not bad enough, many slept five people to a room. Lack of space and privacy prevented them
from wondering about life outside the factory. Harriet Martineau was very concerned with the life
these women were being forced to live and the freedoms they were not allowed to have such as
participating in dances. She felt they were no better off than slaves based on their living and
working conditions. If that was not enough, some of the factory owners tried to extend the work
day while governing meal times. This created family conflict because not all factories were on the
same schedule.

Argumentative Essay On Anthrax
Introduction
Anthrax is most commonly known as the 2001 Bioterror attacks ( CDC, 2016). After 9/11
several letters tainted with Anthrax were sent out, infecting and killing several people in a
matter of days. The word Anthrax derived from Greek word Anthrakos, that means coal. It is
believed to have a history that stems from the book of Exodus 5th and 6th plagues. This story
tells how Moses took soot and tossed it into the air. The dust covered all of Egypt and boils covered
Pharoah s animals and his people (Decker , 2003). Bacillus anthracis is the organism that causes
anthrax. The spore bearing bacillus can lay dormant in the soil for years or decades. In the soil is
where the bacteria waits for a host to multiply and vegetate. Anthrax is mainly a disease of animals
such as sheep, cattle, and goats. The animals would get infected when in contact with contaminated
soil. Humans became infected, when in contact with the infected animals. In the late 19th century

Four Categories of Human Environmental Hazards Essay

The Four Categories of Human Environmental Hazards
There are many exposures to hazards in our environment today that brings along the risk of an
injury, different types of diseases, and even in some cases death. These hazards are called human
environmental hazards. There are four categories to human environmental hazards which we will
discover and discuss further in detail and they consist of cultural hazards, biological hazards,
physical hazards, and chemical hazards (Wright amp; Boorse, 2011).
We first begin with Cultural Hazards. Cultural hazards can result... Show more content on

The second environmental hazard we will look at is Biological Hazards. Up until around the 19th
and 20th centuries, the world became overwhelmed with serious issues such as pathogenic bacteria
and viruses that took millions of people lives. We now have available medicines and shots that
have disposed of many of these childhood sicknesses such as polio and smallpox (Wright amp;
Boorse, 2011). But the battle is not over, every person in every society are hosts to pathogenic
bacteria, fungi, viruses, protozoans, and worms. There are approximately one fourth of these
deaths that are due to serious issues such as infectious and parasitic diseases. The leading causes of
death are from acute respiratory infections and pneumonia has been by far the most deadliest and
serious of them all (Wright amp; Boorse, 2011).
The third environmental hazard is Physical Hazards. These types of hazards occur naturally, and
are the outcome of hydrological, meteorological, or geological forces. Physical hazards are
natural disasters such as hurricanes, volcanic eruptions, twisters, tsunamis, earthquakes, and floods
(Wright amp; Boorse, 2011). These hazards can come from nowhere and have little to no
warnings before they hit. Natural hazards are usually experienced by the least fortunate also
known as the poor who are not able of dealing with their effects of these disasters. Climate change

America s Moral Codes Of The United States
Ever since the early 17th century, the Jews in Philadelphia have been striving to become an
important part of the American society, while staying true to their roots. Although the Jews faced
exile from their homelands of Portugal and Spain, they were able to build and sustain a strong
Jewish community within Philadelphia and pave the way for future generations through extensive
actions throughout the community. They built hundreds of Jewish schools, Community Centres,
synagogues and established many congregations. They became strongly involved in the American
society and paved the way for many of America s moral codes (Telushkin). There are currently 275,
850 Jewsin Philadelphia, making it one of the strongest Jewish communities in the United States
(Levine). By the 15th century, there were many Jews living in Spain and Portugal. They were
well employed and were positively involved with the Spanish government. However, their
prosperity soon came to an end on July 30th, 1492, as the King of Spain ordered the Jews to
leave the land, and the entire Jewish community, some 200,000 people, were expelled from Spain
(Telushkin). The Jews split up almost equally, some travelling to Italy and the others travelled
Mexico and Brazil by boat (Morais 7). After spending hundreds of years in South America, Jewish
explorers found an opportunity to leave these countries and travel to the United States for trade. In
1650, many Jews arrived in New Amsterdam, currently known as New

Essay on Thirty Years War
Thirty Years War Philip, Spanish kings. Philip I (the Handsome), 1478 1506, king of Castile
(1506), was the son of Holy Roman Emperor Maximilian I and Mary of Burgundy. He inherited
Burgundy and the Low Countries from his mother and was titular joint ruler of Castile with his
wife, Joanna. But her father ruled these lands as his regent, so he contested (1504) Ferdinand s
regency and assumed (1506) joint rule of Castile with his wife. Philip s early death, however, and
his wife s deteriorating mental condition allowed Ferdinand to resume joint control of Castile. The
Low Countries passed to Philip s son, who later became Holy Roman Emperor Charles V. Philip II,

But the nation fought in Italy (1615 17) and entered the Thirty Years War. Although the church
prospered and the grandees accumulated vast estates, the Spanish economy declined, partly as a
result of Philip s expulsion (1609 14) of the Moriscos. During Philip s reign, Spanish culture
flourished and gave to the world great artists such as the author Cervantes and the painter El
Greco. Philip IV, 1605 65, king of Spain, Naples, and Sicily (1621 65) and, as Philip III, king of
Portugal (1621 40), intelligent but lacking energy, was unable to prevent Spain s political and
economic decline. The Thirty Years War continued until 1648, and the war with France (1621
59) ended with Spain s humiliation. Portugal revolted (1640), Catalonia was occupied by the
French, and Spain had to recognize the independence of the Netherlands (1648). Philip was a
patron of the arts and, thanks to Velazquez, was perhaps the most frequently portrayed king in
history. The accession of Philip V, 1683 1746, the first Bourbon king of Spain (1700 1746),
precipitated the War of the Spanish Succession (1701 14) because his grandfather, Louis XIV of
France, had accepted the Spanish throne for Philip. By the Peace of Utrecht, Spain lost much
territory, including the Spanish Netherlands, Naples, and Sicily. Philip was forced to introduce the
Salic law of succession, which forbade female monarchs and thus precluded the crown s personal
union with France. The

Efficient Market Hypothesis
Introduction
The efficient markets hypothesis (EMH) is a dominant financial markets theory developed by
Michael Jensen, a graduate of the University of Chicago and one of the creators of the efficient
markets hypothesis, stated that, there is no other proposition in economics which has more solid
empirical evidence supporting it than the Efficient Markets Hypothesis [Jensen, 1978, 96]. This
paper analyzes whether it is possible to measure if markets are efficient in the strong form of
EMH. A generation ago, the efficient market hypothesis was widely accepted by academic financial
economists; for example, Eugene Fama s (1970) influential survey article, Efficient Capital

This implies that it is impossible to beat the market. Many studies shed light on whether
investment advisers and mutual funds (some of which charge steep sales commissions to people
who purchase them) beat the market. One common test that has been performed is to take buy
and sell recommendations from a group of advisers or mutual funds and compare the
performance of the resulting selection of stocks with the market as a whole. Sometimes the
advisers choices have even been compared to a group of stocks chosen by throwing darts at a
copy of the financial page of the newspaper tacked to a dartboard. The Wall Street Journal, for
example, used to have a regular feature called Investment Dartboard that compared how well stocks
picked by investment advisers did relative to stocks picked by throwing darts. Did the advisers win?
To their embarrassment, the dartboard beat them as often as they beat the dartboard. Furthermore,
even when the comparison included only advisers who had been successful in the past in predicting
the stock market, the advisers still didn t regularly beat the dartboard. Consistent with the efficient
market hypothesis, mutual funds also do not beat the market. Not only do mutual funds not
outperform the market on average, but when they are separated into groups according to whether
they had the highest or lowest profits in a chosen period, the

Similarities Between Lost Of Motion And Lost In Motion
When it comes to speaking or performing in front of an audience, everyone has their own ways
of handling the situation, even if they don t have a fear of a big audience. Some people imagine
their audience naked and some imagine themselves somewhere else. This trick to performing is
expressed in both Lost in Motion and Lost in Motion 2 These short films depict two professional
dancers performing breath taking moves, all while in perfect elegance. These two short films have
both similarities and differences. The comparison of these films can be best categorized by its
setting, its mood, and its music
As stated in the introduction, both people in the Lost in Motion videos are both professional
dancers. When the two dance, they seem to be alone in their thoughts. In Lost in Motion , the male
dancer is performing his routine backstage behind the curtain, he is alone both in his mind and
outside of it as well. The area where he is dancing is pitch black with blue lines complementing
each strong movement. After he finishes his routine, he proceeds to enter onto the stage in front
of the audience. In Lost in Motion 2 , the female dancer is performing in front of a live audience,
however in her mind she is alone. In her mind, she is dancing on a giant floating rock structure in
an ominous place filled with storms. While in this place, she dances on the edge, fearlessly. After
her performance, she then proceeds to enter backstage.
The settings of both short films contribute

Justice and Moderation of the Soul in The Republic, by Plato
In his philosophical text, The Republic, Plato argues that justice can only be realized by the
moderation of the soul, which he claims reflects as the moderation of the city. He engages in a
debate, via the persona of Socrates, with Ademantus and Gaucon on the benefit, or lack thereof, for
the man who leads a just life. I shall argue that this analogy reflecting the governing of forces in the
souland in city serves as a sufficient device in proving that justice is beneficial to those who
believe in, and practice it. I shall further argue that Platoestablishes that the metaphorical bridge
between the city and soul analogy and reality is the leader, and that in the city governed by justice
the philosopher is king.

This city eventually evolves into the feverish city. All desires are tried to be filled to its fullest
simultaneously. These conflicting desires cause unhappiness.
Glaucon sees the issue from the perspective of personal gain or loss, while Plato sees it from
outside that realm in the sphere of absolute truths. Clearly, an absolute truth is more viable and
defensible than a personal interest. Justice is a higher order than personal advantage and as is
associated with happiness whether one receives a reward for justice or not. The argument Glaucon
raises against the absolutism of justice is exemplified in his story of the man who discovers a gold
ring that allows him to become invisible. Glaucon proposes these two representative men as
extreme examples of the two sides of the argument and suggests that their positions be examined
after their death to see which was happier, based on the premise that the unjust man meted out
injustice at will without ever suffering it himself, while the just man acted only justly but was
treated unjustly himself. Glaucon takes this example to the extreme, with the just man being:
whipped...racked...bound; he ll have both his eyes burned out; and at the end, when he has
undergone every sort of evil, he ll be crucified and know that one shouldn t wish to be, but to seem
to be, just (39). Glaucon sets these two men at extremes to prove his point that happiness does not

Depiction Of Iran During The 20th Century
You can be anything you want to be. This is a phrase that many parents and other adults tell
children. However, in some parts of the world, the government places laws that restricts the
freedom and rights of their citizens. So for these citizens, is this saying just a phrase or can it
become a reality? An example of a strict government is the Fundamentalist country Iranduring the
late 20th century. The laws of Iran during this period of time were brought about due to a change of
government, which was the result of The Islamic Revolution in 1979. This impacted many Iranian
civilians. The most affected at this time were women. In Persepolis, Marjane Satrapidiscusses the
atmosphere of Iran during this time. From Satrapi s view, the readers get to see the changes
Iranian women had to go through and some examples of women who disapproved the laws and
those who welcomed them. The late 20th century saw many social changes, especially for Iranian
women. One of the changes involves the education system. For example, Satrapi once attended a
non religious French school that was co ed. Then after the revolution, the government forced her
and other females to go to an all girl school with an uniform that included wearing a veil. The
government believed that males and females should be separated in schools and that bilingual
schools are symbols of capitalism (3 4). Another example is the way women dressed, especially in

Australian Dual Citizenship Essay
Australian dual nationals can travel to the US: Malcolm Turnbull
The article Australian dual nationals can travel to the US published on the 31st of January 2017 by
The Sydney Morning Herald, written by Tom Mrlloy and David Wroe, reflects how Australian
citizens with dual citizenship will not be affected by the US s contradicting immigration
prohibition. At the Parliament House, Canberra, Mr Turnbull stated that people with dual
citizenship are approved to visit the US, despite their beliefs or culture.
The main issue raised in this article was that Australian citizens which hold a dual citizenship are

I never knew citizens from countries, such as, Pakistan, Lebanon, Jordan, Turkey or Iran, loss
permission to travel to the US, conversely, owning an Australian citizenship. I found this very
unfair. I know those countries may have terrorist and dangerous people, but minority is like them,
they are still people, like us. In the future, I believe, I would like to support everyone from refugee
countries. I would like to take action helping the innocent people, who had nothing to do with the
bombing and terrorist attacks. Those five countries withdrawal of dual citizenship could become an
on going issue, affecting my community, as well as, I believe, nationally and internationally.
Family connection could be lost or interrupted, causing distress, anger, grief and etc., initiating

I believe, everyone in Australia should be treated fairly and have equal rights. I also support people

Urban Ethnographic Research
Thesis: The study of urban politics using traditional definitions of urban, especially sociological
research inadequately defines or captures the daily activities of localities. There is a missing link
between community power and local economy in the literature. To bridge the gap Molotoch
demonstrates that the underlying interest of local politics is growth. Local power centers around
landed elite who promote and compete against other localities for resources in order to turn a
locality into a growth machine. Growth is measured by the increase in population.
Argument: Cities are controlled by a coalition of elite land based interests whose aim is to increase
the profit potential of their land and wealth. Well to due individuals have... Show more content on

Growth costs more money in taxes and costs more for government services. Growth puts more stain
on the majority of the population in health and quality of life, such as increase pollution, traffic, and
strain on public works, while distributing the benefits to a small segment of the community. Jobs
are not created by growth, but are simply redistributed from and among other localities.
Additionally, the fastest growing metropolitan areas have the most unemployment. This happens
since labor is extracted from a national labor pool, and growing localities attract the unemployed
who are seeking work from other localities. For labor, It is more beneficial for workers to be part of
a national movement to promote full employment, rather than support the local growth machine.
Some areas that are not overpopulated have clean environments, sustainable infrastructure, and
aesthetic landscapes Yet, successful competition by urban localities only help to promote
depopulation, ghost towns, and depletion or extraction of resources in and from localities. Molotch
highlights that depopulation of an area, thus declining growth, is due to political decisions in other
localities to promote

The Battle of Somme Essay
The British launched The Battle of the Somme to achieve two objectives. The first and most
important goal was to relieve pressure on the French Army at Verdun, and the second was to
inflict as heavy a loss as possible on the German Armies. The Battle of the Somme had to be fought
to save the French Army from the crucifixion of Verdun. The head of the French Army, General
Fock, and some leading British commanders did not believe this battle would help, but political
masters in London and Paris supported the campaign. For many years The Battle of the Somme
received much criticism for the way the battle was fought based on the number of casualties.
Joseph Joffre, The French Commander in Chief, wrote a letter to Douglas Haig on December ...

Haig expected a breakthrough of up to seven miles from the start line. Rawlinson believed they
would take a bite into the German trenches to be followed by more little bites to gain territory.
Both generals were proven wrong on their expectations, but Rawlinson s was the more realistic
objective. The artillery plan was that the field guns would destroy the German barbed wire in front
of the trenches and the heavy guns were to attack the enemy s artillery and trenches. The artillery
was to be the key to the offensive.
Another key point in key to being offensive was the enemy s position was situated on a high,
rigid piece of ground. Joffre s army had deep trenches with bomb proof shelters and wire
encirclements. When the attack started Haig s army just had to move the men into the remote
safety zone of the trench. When the attack stopped, the Germans would then know that this was
the signal for an infantry advance. Lastly, they would move from safety and keep their guns close
by incase of an attack and to face the British and French. Sadly, their weapons did not have the
ability to cut all the wire and destroy deep German trenches or knock out all enemy guns. It also
could not provide a useful bombardment for the infantry attack. On July 1, the artillery drifted away
from the German front trenches and left the infantry unattended. Nobody was

Netflix Core Competencies
Netflix s core competencies are excellent customer service, keeping up with the times of
technology, providing one month free access to new customers, and creating Netflix original series

one way to stream series and movies very conveniently. Netflix isn t necessarily rare anymore since

Student Code Violation
I would like to start this appeal by stating that I do not deny that my guest damaged University
property. However, it is the amount of damage and the severity of monetary compensation
demanded of me that I take issue with. The fact of the matter is that I am being assessed a fine of
several thousand dollars based on video evidence that my guest damaged two ceiling tiles. Although
I find any damageto what I consider my home to be a personal affront and a despicable act, I
strongly feel that in this situation the punishment is exceedingly disproportionate to the crime. I
have developed a strong allegiance to Quinnipiac University and I can honestly say that I was
appalled by the vandalism which occurred on that night.

There is absolutely no evidence that Ryan caused the extensive damage seen in the 180s and 280s.
Even Mr. Blakeman, who conducted the investigation, did not appear to be under the impression
that Ryan caused these extensive damages. The only evidence of vandalism shows Ryan and two
other individuals walking down a hallway on the other side of Commons and striking two tiles. The
damage that they caused is, unfortunately, a normal amount of damage for Commons on a
weekend night. Students frequently vandalize this dorm, and that is disgraceful, however one
small, isolated incident is not indicative of responsibility for a second incident with much greater
damages. The damages have not stopped since Ryan and the other individual shown in the video
have left campus. I believe that it is clear that a portion of residents in Commons simply continue
damaging Commons.
As a result of this case, I have been placed on deferred suspension for nearly an entire year.
However, the charge is based off of pure speculation and assumptions. A professional investigation
should not be based off of simple assumptions, especially considering the gravity of the sanctions in

Cultural Imperialism And The United States
During my time in Guatemala, I believe that the social issues I came in the most contact with were
hegemony and cultural imperialism, or in other words, the influence the United States has over
Guatemala. No matter where I was, whether it be the streets of the small town of San Miguel or
the larger, more developed city of GuatemalaCity, I could not help but notice how much of an
impact the United Stateshas. Throughout the course of a month we learned a lot about the root
causes of poverty America as a hegemon through both readings and discussion. The footprint the
U.S. has left in Guatemala was apparent not only while reading and learning about the history of
Latin America, but while visiting the country itself. In addition, we had the... Show more content on

As you walk or drive through Guatemala, you are sure to see countless billboards, much like in
the U.S. Being from the U.S., this seems completely normal. The signs even looked very similar.
When I took a closer look at the signs, I noticed why they looked so similar. There were
American models on the signs. In particular, I noticed a blonde haired woman on the front of a
billboard advertising shampoo. I also noticed American women on billboards advertising jeans
and beer. When looking into bars I saw calendars with American women as well. It was impossible
not to notice the influence that the U.S. had not only on methods of advertising, but also on the
images used. In addition to noticing the U.S. hegemon while on the streets of Guatemala, I also
noticed it while living with the people. While staying with host families, we were given the
opportunity to take in an entirely different culture or so we thought. Even though living amongst
Guatemalans was a very new experience, it was also very evident that the U.S. had impacted the
traditional Guatemalan way of life. The first thing that I noticed while living with my host family
was the way they dressed. My host parents wore what can be considered as traditional clothing.
They had not let any outside influence impact their decision in clothing. However, my host siblings

The Plague Of The 19th Century
The plague that struck Europe and Asia in the 14th century was undoubtedly the most
devastating disease or natural disaster the world ever faced. The Bubonic Plague or Black
Death killed an estimated 25 million people from 1347 to 1352 in Europe, which accounted for
one third of Europe s population.?? 1 Historians believed that the Plague started in Asia and then
spread to Europe. The plague lasted for five devastating years, but it s wrath did not end in 1352.
The Plague would reappear through the later centuries, including the Great Plague of London
around 1656 in which 20% of London residents died.?? 2 Although some of the later breakouts of
the Plague decimated populations, this paper will primarily focus on the Plague from the 1300s.
More specifically, this paper will address the origins of the Plague, its biology, the symptoms of the
Plague, where it was most devastating, how it was transmitted, and how it stopped. During this
period of time, many myths about the plague arose, and who or what was to blame for it. There
were also many unanswered questions, why some regions were susceptible and others were not.
Scientific information about the plague did not exist at the time, but some recent excavations and
research have brought new insight into the plague. The plague that crippled Europe in the 14th
century was not the first time the plague surfaced. A huge plague epidemic appeared in the 6th
century in Egypt and it struck Constantinople and then moved west

The Emergence Of A Hazardous Concept Analysis
Definition of Technology: Hazardous or Honest?
Leo Marx, once a professor at Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a Harvard graduate, wrote
an article titled Technology The Emergence of a Hazardous Concept . In this article, the author
explores the modern day definition of the word technology and argues that technology offers too
broad of a definition and is ill fitting to describe all technical advancements and their creators.
Technology can be defined as the branch of knowledge that deals with the creation and use of
technical means and their interrelation with life, society, and the environment, drawing upon such
subjects as industrial arts, engineering, applied science, and pure science (dictionary.com). On the
other hand, it can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In simpler terms, Lukacs is saying that there is so much to the word technology that it all should
not be confined into one. He also believes, like Marx, that human involvement is not credited
enough. Marx also refers to Lukacs definition of reification: is what occurs when we endow a
human activity with the characteristics of a thing or things (Lukacs, 83 87). Marx proceeds to
argue that technologies are represented by things. For instance, Marx says that when someone
hears transportation technology what comes to mind are things like automobiles, airplanes, and
trains. This, in some way, distracts the person from the human involvement. Let s take an
automobile for an example. Say you have a Prius. Often times when someone talks about a car,
we think a lot about the brand. It is a well known fact that the Prius is made by Toyota. It also is
obvious that Toyota is a company made up of people who come up with ideas for cars and put them
into action. Therefore, when someone thinks about a car, they also think about the company. This
proves that we do acknowledge the fact that human creation is a huge part of technology. Marx
insists that technologies are viewed and put into a category of things . Nonetheless, it can be said
that Marx argument is invalid. Human involvement in technology is not only implied, but it simply
would not exist without humans. As stated in the above paragraph, it is clear that technology
cannot produce itself. Even when we cover the topic of technology in a history class for example,
we learn about the creation, who created, and what it does. As an illustration, think of a telephone.
As part of our education, in American history class, teachers teach us about the invention of

Full Name: Donald Fauntleroy Duck
Birthdate: Egg hatched June 9, 1934 (Egg laid Friday, March 13, 1934)
Besides in my opinon, being the greatest cartoon character ever, Donald is the one in the little
blue suit that is more often in a rage than not. His personality shows through actions. He gives
new meaning to the phrase: Actions speak louder than words. His lines are few and almost
indecipherable, forcing his actions to speak the volumeof his parts. His personality makes his

Freedom to Change
Linguistic innovation is a crucial component in Hip Hop or Rap music and in everyday life. As
Curzan and Adams mention in How English Works, there are an infinite number of possible
utterances one can create from the English language. Therefore, who determines what is
acceptable and what is not? Over the centuries, language has changed because of different
influences. For example, Hip Hop and Rap music emerged when African Americans used it as an
expression of their struggle against oppression and economic limitations. These changes may be
acceptable in some circles, but are frowned upon by the society that judges a person by the way
they speak. We the people change the English language and no authority can control those changes.
The use... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One might argue that this cannot be acceptable, perhaps for now soon this word too will become
of the vernacular of the majority. The use of creative utterances encompasses most of Jay Z and
Kanyes lyrics. They refer to the car as a whip (56). There appears to be an association with a fast
whipping action and the car alluding that the car is also fast. A common utterance appears in
line 59, I m about to kill it, an expression that is used by many people. This phrase translates to be
great at something and excel. One understands that he means this rather than actually about to
murder something. People often say to wish them luck by expressing, hope you kill it, or knock
them dead. This example is full of evidence f how language has changed and is changing every
day. Lupe Fiascos shows how powerful language and language choice can be in his song, Dumb
it Down. He begins a very lyrically poetic verse, explaining how he is unable to hear, or see what
is going on. Lupe is describing how the use of intellectual language is not preferred by the Rap
music industry. This shows how language controls the perception of many people. Lupe is
attempting to expose how people define people by the way they speak. In How English Works, the
power of language is focused on, Words have the power to hurt

Parents Should Be A Good Parent
Through the entire interview process, four of the eleven participants, two males, one was in the
younger age group and the other was in the older age group, and two females, again with one
from each group, explicitly said what my research has explained: children raised by gay parents
learn to become more open towards others than children raised by straight parents. All of the
participants gave answers that aligned with my research on the kind of parenta child needs and what
a healthy household consists of. Each contributor believed that love and support, as well as a
handful of other qualities leads to a well developed child. The handful of qualities mentioned by
informants were: stable, mature, and responsible. Informants believe a parent should be someone
who is capable of caring for someone else. No one mentioned a single thing about the sexual
orientationrequired to be a good parent; society does not take sexual orientation into consideration
when describing who could be a good parent.
To contrast what I found in researching to what I found informants had to say, two interviewees
depicted gay parenting as not the norm , or not normal in today s society , both from the younger
age group, one female and one male. Moreover, men tended to suppose that a child having gay
parents will be predisposed to gay tendencies and will therefore become confused with their sexual
orientation or may lean towards more gay tendencies . Of all the men who thought this, two of them

Dance Salsa Research Paper
Dance has always been a part of my life, whether it was from the first day my mom taught me
salsa in the family room to now performing in front of huge crowds around my community.
Whether its ballroom, west coast, or country, I have been able to express myself in ways that I
never thought possible. Through my commitment and perseverance I strive to become a better and
more knowledgeable dancer every day. I continue to learn new things and search for opportunities to
widen my horizons and interact with the dancecommunity. My passion grows with me as I grow as
a dancer and I hope to be able to share that passion with others for the rest of my life.
I started dance at the age of 8, well officially that is. Long before then however I had begun to
learn from my mom. We would spend our Sunday s cleaning the house listening to latin music
and she would teach me how to dance salsa. That was how I first discovered what it was to
dance. I kept learning and having fun with her every week until a talent show at my school offered
me an opportunity to showcase (what I thought at the time) was a vast amount of knowledge. So I
told my mother about it, but she thought that our days spent learning salsa were just harmless fun
with no big aims such as the one I had presented her with. So she said no. And ... Show more

all these people were having fun. The dancers were wrapped up in the moment smiling, having the

  • 3. Why Did The Aurora Borealis Exist The Aurora Borealis Despite a distance of 93 million miles, the sun provides us with heat, energy, and the mystical Aurora Borealis. There are many beliefs for why the Aurora Borealis exists; the Inuit believe that the spirits of their ancestors can be seen in the Aurora Borealis. Norse Mythology states that the Aurora Borealis is a fire bridge to the sky built by the gods. But because of science, we now know that the sun causes the Aurora Borealis. What Causes the Aurora Borealis? The surface of the sun is worlds away. But on that surface, immense storms rage across the surface. These storms hurtle gusts of charged solar particles across the abyss of space. If the Earth happens to be in the path of the particles, the particles collide with molecules and atoms in the Earth s atmosphere. These atoms become stimulated by the sun s particles and light up. But what happens to cause the atoms to light up is where things start to get interesting. Atoms are made up of a nucleus and a cloud of electrons circling this nucleus. When the sun charged particles hit the atoms in the Earth s atmosphere; energy is transferred to the electrons, causing them to move further away from the nucleus. But as those electrons lose energy, they move closer to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Saturn s Aurora Borealis was exactly the same as Earth s. The Aurora appears at the poles because the ringed planet s magnetic field forces them pole ward, exactly like on Earth. Jupiter is just the same. The Aurora Borealis appears at both poles for the exact same reason as Earth and Saturn. But different than Earth, Jupiter s Aurora had multiple bright streaks and dots instead of the common curtain shape. After much research, scientists discovered that some of Jupiter s largest moon s magnetic fields were to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Analysis Of Google s On Data Exhaust Essay Data Exhaust Google By utilizing the millions of misspelled words in the billions of searches it processes every day, Google was able to create it s spell checker for free (something that Microsoft spent a considerable amount of time and money to create). Google then created an ingenious way to confirm that it s algorithm displayed the correct word by asking users to click to confirm on the corrected search results. In addition, google took their algorithm a step further by looking at the text of the web pages that they click on as the page that the user selects as the page likely has the word spelled correctly if the user selected it. This allows google to continually improve their spell check and also makes it easily available for any language that is typed into their search engine. This data also has additional uses beyond spell check, such as their autocomplete feature that is available across most of the google ecosystem and the translation services that they offer9. Facebook Jeff Hammerbacher, a data scientist at facebook, found that when people saw their friends making posts or sharing content that they were more likely to post content themselves. Once facebook made this realization, they redesigned their site to make activities by users friends more prominent in order to create a cycle of new content9. Amazon Amazon now has a trove of data available to it from the thousands of e books that it sells through its kindle platform. For example, they are able to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Real Life Grind Analysis The Real Life Grind Most men indeed as well as most sects in religion, think themselves in possession of all truth, and that wherever others differ from them it is so far error (Franklin 43). Many people, as Benjamin Franklin points out in his speech, Speech in the Convention, hold their opinions above others; they believe that their perspective is the most clear and realistic. Conversely, Albert Camus, a French philosopher, author and journalist from the 20th century, opposed the general view of the old Greek myth about Sisyphus s tragic fate. When everyone thought they were correct, Camus proved them wrong. Camus argued that Sisyphus s fate was not as tragic as it was speculated to be. He states, The lucidity that was to constitute his torture at the same time crowns his victory. . . The struggle itself toward the heights is enough to fill a man s heart. One must imagine Sisyphus happy (Camus 17 18). The general opinion of the Sisyphus s fate was that it is tragic because he consciously knows that his labor of pushing a boulder up a mountain for eternity serves no purpose, but Camus suggests that the fact that Sisyphus knows his fate makes him the champion of it. He is the owner of that fate; Camus goes as far to say that Sisyphus enjoys his labor because on his way up, he toils to push the boulder and works willingly in spite of the gods that condemned him to this fate. When Sisyphus reaches the top of the mountain, he feels triumphant and maybe even improves himself with skills he learned on his way to the top. Identically, playing video games has the same impression. There is the misconception that playing such games are a waste of time and are meaningless labor, but if examined meticulously, playing video games have a similar grind to that of Sisyphus; they teach things to the player that only he or she can value consciously. Viewing through the scientific lens, video games, albeit not all useful, can offer educational benefits, such as creativity and data handling skills, collaborative skills, and career exposure or experience, to students. As a matter of fact, the act of playing a video game can boost a student s creativity and data handling. In the article titled Designing Interactive Learning: ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The reason that why Bill of rights can be established is the anti federalist thought the constitution only stipulated that power from government, and the citizen can not get any power from it. In 1788, at the beginning of the United States, all the citizens want the freedom and democracy, then The Bill of Rights is here. The birth of the Bill of Rights, is the most basic principles of personal freedom and limited the central government. There have ten amendments in Bill of Rights, in my point of view, the first and the tenth amendments is the most important. The first amendment is talk about the freedom and the tenth amendments is about decentralization. Then i will give some reasons. Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise thereof or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances. • 9. Understanding The Chinese Culture Of A Chinese Patient Many health care professionals think that if patients are just treated with respect, then cultural issues will be avoided. That statement is not the correct. Five points of area that affect nursing care when taking care of a Chinese patient, are the cultural beliefs with medical treatments, who and when to discuss the prognosis and medical treatment to, dietary beliefs, pregnancies beliefs, and death and dying. Many Chinese people believe in traditional Chinese medical treatments, and if the doctors and nurses disregard their beliefs, then that could lead to mistrust. Chinese people may try traditional approaches first, and then seek medical care if they fail. Communication barriers may delay patients from getting medical treatment. Cross cultural communication skills are extremely important to avoid miscommunication. A couple accommodations needed in nursing care would be to take some extra time to build a rapport with the patient before discussing any medical issues. Recognize how the Chinese cultureviews doctors and nurses, and encourage the patient to ask questions, and give them a chance to answer the questions. In the Chinese culture, when the patient is slow to respond to a question, or seems to be hesitant, it is simply a sign that respect is being given to the person that is asking the question (Cross Cultural Communications for Healthcare Professionals, 2015). The Affect Of Music Piracy On The Music Industry Samuel LeGrand Mrs. Turner English 1301.85 11/19/15 Music Piracy and the Impact It Can Make on the Music Industry For over a decade now music piracy has threatened the music industry by costing it money, and stealing from it. Peer to peer file sharing has been somewhat of a red flag for the music industry ever since Napster, a once highly used file swapping network, came into the picture. Napster and the websites similar to it made it possible for people to trade files downloaded onto their computer through the internet for free. What that means is that someone who had downloaded the new NSYNC album could give it away to however many people could access it and no one had to pay a penny. The big deal about that is the fact that the artists who worked for months to make that album did not get paid. • 11. Batman And Mr Freeze Fortune Review Batman and Mr Freeze Fortune Review Online slot developers have drawn from an endless source of pop culture references and intellectual properties, all in the effort to bring you a casino experience featuring characters and settings you know and love. This brand new release proudly draws from the 1960s TV show featuring Batman and Mr Freeze, while cautiously avoiding any reference to the Schumacher film that hardly did the characters justice. The number of slots games featuring comic book characters has increased quite considerably over the past several years, with Batman and Mr Freeze Fortune looking to get in the hunt. Question is, will this Ash Gaming release live up to hype? Tuck into our review below to find out! Like a 1960s crime fighting caper Developed by up and coming industry name Ash Gaming, Batman and Mr Freeze Fortune draws inspiration from its earlier titles. That being said, while still offering several of its own unique features, this game manages to pay sufficient homage to its source material. Batman and Mr Freeze Fortune game draws mostly from the campy 1960s movie featuring Adam West. As can be expected it is lovingly cheesy and self referential all throughout. Plenty of homages and references to the show can be seen, and older fans of the series will be delighted by the nostalgic throwback this game represents. Overall, while hammy, the design of Batman and Mr Freeze Fortune has a certain nostalgic appeal. Mr Freeze strikes again With Batman and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Argumentative Essay On Hook Up Culture There is a lot of faux concern among conservatives about how much more promiscuous millennials are, as opposed to previous generations and how that sexual freedom is hindering overall growth and emotional stability. Indeed, a recent study at James Madison University hooking up or dating: who benefits? conducted by Carolyn Bradshaw and her colleagues, sparked an outcry for how millennials no longer care for dating, and inspired numerous articles about the death of chivalry and romance. These concerns, however, are exaggerated. Sex is sex, and as it turns out, there are more benefits to the no strings attached culture of hookups than critics suggest. In her most recent article in The Atlantic, Boys on the Side , Hanna Rosin wrote an insightful piece in which she argues the merits of hook up culture... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The I m a broke college student statement is one that many can identify with. While millennials are consistently labeled as commitment phobes, the truth is, this lifestyle is embraced mostly because it s the only one many can financially afford. When one takes into account the amount that goes towards buying an exclusive partner holiday gifts, anniversary celebrations, birthdays, for broke college students, the overall sum is preposterous. Add the opportunity cost of spending time with a partner instead of actually investing that time in one s job, internship, and academic success, and the numbers go up even more. This is why hook up culture is important. • 13. Explain Why Political Leaders Ignore Intelligence Warnings Why Do Political Leaders Ignore Intelligence Warnings? Political leaders ignore intelligence warnings based on several motives. These motives range from cognitive biases and mindsets that create unrealistic expectation of intelligence and non acknowledgement of relevant intelligence, to plausible deniability, and the creation of opacity. Both plausible deniability and opacity are significant motivations, as it takes a conscious action to ignore intelligence warnings, while mindsets are an unconscious motivation. However, mindsets and cognitive biases play a more significant role in a political leader s decision to ignore intelligence warnings. Mindsets, in psychological terms, define a person s mental lens on how they understand their world. These mental perceptions, or biases, refer to the unconscious influence of a person s belief system and the simple strategies they use, to make sense of the world they live in. Consequently, these biases also lead to distortions in an individual s perceptions of reality. The creation of these biases leads to mindsets that form quickly, as... It occurs most often when a political leader will substitute their own knowledge for that of the intelligence community s assessment. This non acknowledgement of intelligence warning is considered politicization of intelligence. Politicization of intelligence occurs when political leaders guide the information being collected, rather than the information leading the them, to an outcome. Political leaders politicize intelligence by cherry picking information that favors their assessment, while ignoring alternative reports. This allows warnings to be ignored by political leaders who seek exclusive information that align with their cognitive biases or preferred ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. Australian Sports Law Australian Sports Law Introduction Australian sports law is grounded in the principles of Natural Justice to ensure procedural fairness. Nevertheless, the sports tribunals ability to hold hearings and make determinations without allowing athletes the benefit of legal counsel is troublesome. Clearly, the process often involves valuable rights which should be asserted and preserved by knowledgeable, zealous legal counsel at the first opportunity. The single difference between the Waverley and Nagle cases shows how issues that are vitally important to an individual can turn on a single fact; consequently, while Waverley and Nagle did not involve sports tribunals, they do show the importance of paying careful attention to facts, which also applies to sports tribunals. Finally, the inclusion of women in sports, particularly Golf, is a natural outgrowth of anti discrimination laws and progressive Australian attitudes create fertile ground for further attempts by women to compete with men. Part A: The Natural Justice Process in Sports Tribunals Sports disputes fall into two general categories: external and internal. External sporting disputes are handled in a state Court system and generally include: contract or tort; intellectual property; trade practices and competition; criminal law; taxation; broadcasting and media; and other statutory based disputes (Bellamy Hayes, 2007, pp. 5 6). The most important of issue is knowing if the child has a hearing loss or not because I can potentially mask the signs of Autism and a child can be misdiagnosed (Syzmanski Brice 2008). For example, if a child is not responding it could because of their hearing loss not Autism. This can lead to isolated play, especially if they do not have sign language developed. Moreover, if sign language is not developed then this can lead to a decrease in social interaction with any individuals leading to a greater isolation. It is not the only form of communication, however it has become a fundamental method to present our thoughts, ideas, beliefs, and opinions to other people. It has become a necessity in American society to use media sites such as Facebook and Twitter to instantaneously access or send information. When words are censored, it strangles our ability to effectively communicate what we may be thinking. Similarly, when ideas are censored, our ability to progress as a society and as a nation is hindered. Censorshiphas been employed by other governments in the past as a method to influence the way a people may think about or view a topic. Therefore, government censorship of social media runs the risk of encroaching upon constitutional rights due to overreaching information control policies. Although there is an ongoing battle for what amount of censorship media sources should enforce, there are laws that are already in effect such as the Child Internet Protection Act, which aims to protect children from explicit material, and the Freedom Act, intended to prevent the government from accessing huge amounts of information that is found in record files. These laws are put in place to eliminate any sort of overreach from the government because it was going against civil rights. Since the children were small they could get under the machinery and keep things clear so the machines would continue to run. Some factories primarily hired young women to operate their facility. As stated in Morals of Manufactures (1837), young women would leave their families to live in boarding houses owned by the factories (Martineau). This concept was to protect the women from the evils of the world. They were required to work fourteen hours a day with thirty minutes for eating twice a day. If that was not bad enough, many slept five people to a room. Lack of space and privacy prevented them from wondering about life outside the factory. Harriet Martineau was very concerned with the life these women were being forced to live and the freedoms they were not allowed to have such as participating in dances. She felt they were no better off than slaves based on their living and working conditions. If that was not enough, some of the factory owners tried to extend the work day while governing meal times. Efficient Market Hypothesis Introduction The efficient markets hypothesis (EMH) is a dominant financial markets theory developed by Michael Jensen, a graduate of the University of Chicago and one of the creators of the efficient markets hypothesis, stated that, there is no other proposition in economics which has more solid empirical evidence supporting it than the Efficient Markets Hypothesis [Jensen, 1978, 96]. This paper analyzes whether it is possible to measure if markets are efficient in the strong form of EMH. A generation ago, the efficient market hypothesis was widely accepted by academic financial economists; for example, Eugene Fama s (1970) influential survey article, Efficient Capital Markets. It was generally believed that securities markets were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This implies that it is impossible to beat the market. Many studies shed light on whether investment advisers and mutual funds (some of which charge steep sales commissions to people who purchase them) beat the market. One common test that has been performed is to take buy and sell recommendations from a group of advisers or mutual funds and compare the performance of the resulting selection of stocks with the market as a whole. Sometimes the advisers choices have even been compared to a group of stocks chosen by throwing darts at a copy of the financial page of the newspaper tacked to a dartboard. The Wall Street Journal, for example, used to have a regular feature called Investment Dartboard that compared how well stocks picked by investment advisers did relative to stocks picked by throwing darts. Did the advisers win? To their embarrassment, the dartboard beat them as often as they beat the dartboard. Furthermore, even when the comparison included only advisers who had been successful in the past in predicting the stock market, the advisers still didn t regularly beat the dartboard. Consistent with the efficient market hypothesis, mutual funds also do not beat the market. Not only do mutual funds not outperform the market on average, but when they are separated into groups according to whether they had the highest or lowest profits in a chosen period, the ... • 34. Similarities Between Lost Of Motion And Lost In Motion When it comes to speaking or performing in front of an audience, everyone has their own ways of handling the situation, even if they don t have a fear of a big audience. Some people imagine their audience naked and some imagine themselves somewhere else. This trick to performing is expressed in both Lost in Motion and Lost in Motion 2 These short films depict two professional dancers performing breath taking moves, all while in perfect elegance. These two short films have both similarities and differences. The comparison of these films can be best categorized by its setting, its mood, and its music As stated in the introduction, both people in the Lost in Motion videos are both professional dancers. When the two dance, they seem to be alone in their thoughts. In Lost in Motion , the male dancer is performing his routine backstage behind the curtain, he is alone both in his mind and outside of it as well. The area where he is dancing is pitch black with blue lines complementing each strong movement. After he finishes his routine, he proceeds to enter onto the stage in front of the audience. In Lost in Motion 2 , the female dancer is performing in front of a live audience, however in her mind she is alone. In her mind, she is dancing on a giant floating rock structure in an ominous place filled with storms. While in this place, she dances on the edge, fearlessly. After her performance, she then proceeds to enter backstage. The settings of both short films contribute ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Justice and Moderation of the Soul in The Republic, by Plato In his philosophical text, The Republic, Plato argues that justice can only be realized by the moderation of the soul, which he claims reflects as the moderation of the city. He engages in a debate, via the persona of Socrates, with Ademantus and Gaucon on the benefit, or lack thereof, for the man who leads a just life. I shall argue that this analogy reflecting the governing of forces in the souland in city serves as a sufficient device in proving that justice is beneficial to those who believe in, and practice it. I shall further argue that Platoestablishes that the metaphorical bridge between the city and soul analogy and reality is the leader, and that in the city governed by justice the philosopher is king. These conflicting desires cause unhappiness. Glaucon sees the issue from the perspective of personal gain or loss, while Plato sees it from outside that realm in the sphere of absolute truths. Clearly, an absolute truth is more viable and defensible than a personal interest. Justice is a higher order than personal advantage and as is associated with happiness whether one receives a reward for justice or not. The argument Glaucon raises against the absolutism of justice is exemplified in his story of the man who discovers a gold ring that allows him to become invisible. Glaucon proposes these two representative men as extreme examples of the two sides of the argument and suggests that their positions be examined after their death to see which was happier, based on the premise that the unjust man meted out injustice at will without ever suffering it himself, while the just man acted only justly but was treated unjustly himself. Glaucon takes this example to the extreme, with the just man being: whipped...racked...bound; he ll have both his eyes burned out; and at the end, when he has undergone every sort of evil, he ll be crucified and know that one shouldn t wish to be, but to seem to be, just (39). However, in some parts of the world, the government places laws that restricts the freedom and rights of their citizens. So for these citizens, is this saying just a phrase or can it become a reality? An example of a strict government is the Fundamentalist country Iranduring the late 20th century. The laws of Iran during this period of time were brought about due to a change of government, which was the result of The Islamic Revolution in 1979. This impacted many Iranian civilians. At the Parliament House, Canberra, Mr Turnbull stated that people with dual citizenship are approved to visit the US, despite their beliefs or culture. Urban Ethnographic Research Thesis: The study of urban politics using traditional definitions of urban, especially sociological research inadequately defines or captures the daily activities of localities. There is a missing link between community power and local economy in the literature. To bridge the gap Molotoch demonstrates that the underlying interest of local politics is growth. Local power centers around landed elite who promote and compete against other localities for resources in order to turn a locality into a growth machine. This happens since labor is extracted from a national labor pool, and growing localities attract the unemployed who are seeking work from other localities. The head of the French Army, General Fock, and some leading British commanders did not believe this battle would help, but political masters in London and Paris supported the campaign. The artillery plan was that the field guns would destroy the German barbed wire in front of the trenches and the heavy guns were to attack the enemy s artillery and trenches. The artillery was to be the key to the offensive. Another key point in key to being offensive was the enemy s position was situated on a high, rigid piece of ground. Joffre s army had deep trenches with bomb proof shelters and wire encirclements. When the attack started Haig s army just had to move the men into the remote safety zone of the trench. When the attack stopped, the Germans would then know that this was the signal for an infantry advance. Lastly, they would move from safety and keep their guns close by incase of an attack and to face the British and French. The Bubonic Plague or Black Death killed an estimated 25 million people from 1347 to 1352 in Europe, which accounted for one third of Europe s population.?? 1 Historians believed that the Plague started in Asia and then spread to Europe. The plague lasted for five devastating years, but it s wrath did not end in 1352. The Plague would reappear through the later centuries, including the Great Plague of London around 1656 in which 20% of London residents died.?? 2 Although some of the later breakouts of the Plague decimated populations, this paper will primarily focus on the Plague from the 1300s. Leo Marx, once a professor at Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a Harvard graduate, wrote an article titled Technology The Emergence of a Hazardous Concept . In this article, the author explores the modern day definition of the word technology and argues that technology offers too broad of a definition and is ill fitting to describe all technical advancements and their creators. He also believes, like Marx, that human involvement is not credited enough. Marx also refers to Lukacs definition of reification: is what occurs when we endow a human activity with the characteristics of a thing or things (Lukacs, 83 87). Marx proceeds to argue that technologies are represented by things. For instance, Marx says that when someone hears transportation technology what comes to mind are things like automobiles, airplanes, and trains. This, in some way, distracts the person from the human involvement. Let s take an automobile for an example. Say you have a Prius. Often times when someone talks about a car, we think a lot about the brand. It is a well known fact that the Prius is made by Toyota. It also is obvious that Toyota is a company made up of people who come up with ideas for cars and put them into action. Therefore, when someone thinks about a car, they also think about the company. This proves that we do acknowledge the fact that human creation is a huge part of technology. Marx insists that technologies are viewed and put into a category of things . Nonetheless, it can be said that Marx argument is invalid. Human involvement in technology is not only implied, but it simply would not exist without humans. As stated in the above paragraph, it is clear that technology cannot produce itself.
