This document discusses how RFID can help automate processes in a manufacturing warehouse. It proposes using existing RFID tags mandated for vehicles to track inventory throughout the warehouse and supply chain. This would help reduce costs from improved visibility, accuracy, throughput and reduced inventory levels. The tags could be applied at windshield manufacturers to integrate with the production line with no additional steps. Tracking inventory from receipt to dispatch and enabling features like stock reconciliation would optimize warehouse management.

key part of the supply chain and primarily aims to control the movement and storage of materials within a warehouse and process the associated transactions, including shipping, receiving, put away and picking. The systems also direct and optimize stock put away based on real-time information about the status of bin utilization. Warehouse management systems often utilize Auto ID Data Capture (AIDC) technology, such as barcode scanners, mobile computers, wireless LANs and potentially Radio-frequency identification (RFID) to efficiently monitor the flow of products. Once data has been collected, there is either batch synchronization with, or a real-time wireless transmission to a central database. The database can then provide useful reports about the status of goods in the warehouse. Warehouse Management monitors the progress of products through the warehouse. It involves the physical warehouse infrastructure, tracking systems, and communication between product stations. Warehouse management deals with receipt, storage and movement of goods, normally finished goods, to intermediate storage locations or to final customer. In the multi-echelon model for distribution, there are levels of warehouses, starting with the Central Warehouse(s), regional warehouses services by the central warehouses and retail warehouses at the third level services by the regional warehouses and so on.

Due to the increasing cost of operation, manufacturers and contract manufacturers are searching for new ways to reduce costs and optimize their operations. Across the supply chain new technology implementation has been a cost saving solution, and it is no different for manufacturing operations. A lot of this growth can be associated to the adoption of RFID networks throughout the supply chain. These wireless networks are being implemented to act as “intelligent monitoring systems” that provide detailed track and trace functionality from manufacture to end consumer stages of the supply chain.
To make RFID a more viable solution for manufacturers, changes have been made to handle their extreme operating environments. New and improved radio frequency tags were designed that can withstand extreme heat and cold, high pressures, hazardous locations and extreme moisture levels. With these improvements also came cost reductions as adoption started to increase on a much larger scale.
Functions of RFID in manufacturing:
Inventory Traceability – Tagging components, WIP and finished products with RFID tags provides real time visibility into manufacturing operations and provides manufacturing operators with continuous data flow to improve decision making.
Equipment Tracking & Monitoring Using RFID –Placing RFID tags on this equipment helps to locate lost or misplaced assets needed for production setup and execution.
Production Scheduling – Manufacturers are also using RFID to identify idle equipment. This helps them to increase asset utilization by more effectively scheduling production.
Monitor Waste & Shrinkage – Tagging component inventory, WIP and finished goods helps manufacturers to monitor waste levels from production lines and possible sources of internal theft or loss.
Reduce Carrying Costs – RFID implementation improves data accuracy, allowing manufacturers to implement JIT inventory management strategies. This helps to reduce inventory carrying costs as items are replenished as needed rather than kept on hand in large quantities.
Shipment Routing – RFID tags can carry data related to predetermine shipping routes. As production is completed this data can be used to assist in staging outgoing shipments. This data accessibility expedites the shipping process and reduces required labor.
Labor Tracking & Security – Radio frequency identification can also be used to track and manage staff activity. RFID badges can be used for granting access to restricted zones and track employees productivity as they move throughout the facility.
Machinery Integration – In some cases manufacturers are using RFID to help control and monitor large machinery activity. In this type of scenario RFID is integrated with machinery control systems.

Labour Cost Savings
Accenture estimates, as reported in Lacy (2005), that the savings in receipt is 6.5%, while 100% of the labour in physical inventory count could be eliminated.
Inventory Reduction
Economist (2003) cites IBM’s estimates to be at 5 to 25%,
Shrinkage and Out-of-Stock Reduction
First, by having visibility so that the inventory record corresponds closer to actual inventory, replenishment can be more accurate, leading to fewer stock outs. Second, the ability to accurately monitor inventory can reduce the process failures, prevent misplacements, and avoid frauds,1 leading to a direct reduction of inventory shrinkage. IBM’s estimate (Alexander et al. 2002) is that shrinkage can reduce by 2/3
RFID technology has brought a new level of visibility and control over the supply chain management. RFID solutions enable you to track and instantly identify assets, containers, and component parts across the enterprise and beyond. These solutions can be implemented in partnership with third-party vendors and trading partners to provide a drastic improvement in the productivity and efficiency across the supply chain.

Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.

Search and Society: Reimagining Information Access for Radical FuturesBhaskar Mitra
The field of Information retrieval (IR) is currently undergoing a transformative shift, at least partly due to the emerging applications of generative AI to information access. In this talk, we will deliberate on the sociotechnical implications of generative AI for information access. We will argue that there is both a critical necessity and an exciting opportunity for the IR community to re-center our research agendas on societal needs while dismantling the artificial separation between the work on fairness, accountability, transparency, and ethics in IR and the rest of IR research. Instead of adopting a reactionary strategy of trying to mitigate potential social harms from emerging technologies, the community should aim to proactively set the research agenda for the kinds of systems we should build inspired by diverse explicitly stated sociotechnical imaginaries. The sociotechnical imaginaries that underpin the design and development of information access technologies needs to be explicitly articulated, and we need to develop theories of change in context of these diverse perspectives. Our guiding future imaginaries must be informed by other academic fields, such as democratic theory and critical theory, and should be co-developed with social science scholars, legal scholars, civil rights and social justice activists, and artists, among others.

POINTS AND BACK END SYSTEM
31. Risks involved with Electronic Identity:
Security is a common concern in many applications
The security risks faced by users of RFID include business risks such as:
◦ Cloning
◦ Counterfeiting
◦ Skimming license numbers, vehicle identification numbers, or other personally
identifiable information off from the tags*
A security breach could cost millions in terms of Brand and Leakage of revenue
with in the system.

36. WHY
AIS
SHOULD DO
IT…
1.
By deploying RFID Labels
on windscreen AVI
achieves betterment in
following area..
2.
Material Management
(MM)
3.
Dispatch Management
(DM)
4.
Stock Delivery
Confirmation from
Manufacturers end
5.
Lesser Human
Intervention and Fully
Automated DATA
CAPTURING
1. Material Management – at the cost of UHF
RFID Tags meant for AUTOMOBILE
MANUFACTURERS.
2. Gain in profit by means of simply grabbing
the opportunity of MoRTH mandate by bulk
deployment at the end of process line after
QC – OK stage.
3. Tracking and Tracking each and every FG
Material from entry point of FG Warehouse
till Raw Material Warehouse of
Manufacturers.
4. Fully automated Receiving and Dispatch
management system.
5. Warranty / Replacement management and
tracking system, with the help of same UHF
RFID Labels.
38. advantage to
AUTOMIBILE
MANuFACTuR
er
1.
Drastic Reduction in
MM
2.
Less efforts in Import /
Export related process
3.
No additional point of
activity on production
line.
In case of long term association, all efforts
centralized to SINGLE POINT OF
COORDINATION i.e. AIS India, hence no pain
in individual tracking of suppliers and
Certifying authorities.
No involvement on any third party and
outsiders and only dependency on reliable
and existing partner like AIS India.
No additional point of activity on production
line, because tags are customized according
to different OEM’s and applied at Windscreen
manufacturers location only. Hence all
windscreen are ready to mount, hence
reduces chance of human errors and delay at
critical stage on running production line.

42. RFID in Warehouse/Distribution?
Most logical first step for most manufacturers:
Better Visibility into Location of Inventory throughout
the distribution chain.
Reduced Warehouse Labour Costs
Reduced Inventory Write offs (Refabricating, EOL, shelf
life)
Reduction in errors - Improved Accuracy
Increased Throughput
Lower Inventory Levels
Improved Customer Satisfaction
43. Stoke Reconciliation:
Solution provide total visibility in the Procurement & WMS
operation.
- Dispatch
- Receiving
- Staking (Directed and stack and CBBs association)
- Picking (FMFO on Batch Basis)
- WIP sequence / Blocked Material
virtual Stoke Reconciliation can done on the basis of
random selection of bays to verify the reliability of system.
