Recently, Santa Fe County acquired LiDAR across 3000+ square miles as part of their 2014 Orthophotography project. One deliverable, derived from the LiDAR bare earth surface, is a flowline network. The surface must be hydrologically conditioned to create the most accurate flow paths. One part of this conditioning is to “burn” culvert line features into the bare earth surface to allow the flowlines to model correctly across manmade surface features.
FME Workbench and Data Inspector is utilized to model and review linear culvert features and the newly conditioned surface. Utilizing LiDAR derived bare earth surface data, high resolution orthophotography, preliminary stream flowline network, and culvert research points, FME can combine the data into a rich and detailed 3d scene that can be quickly reviewed and provide feedback as to the quality of the hydrologic conditioning at a single culvert crossing.

Over 137 million members worldwide are enjoying TV series, feature films across a wide variety of genres and languages on Netflix. It leads to petabyte scale of user behavior data. At Netflix, our client logging platform collects and processes this data to empower recommendations, personalization and many other services to enhance user experience. Built with Apache Flink, this platform processes 100s of billion events and a petabyte data per day, 2.5 million events/sec in sub milliseconds latency. The processing involves a series of data transformations such as decryption and data enrichment of customer, geo, device information using microservices based lookups.
The transformed and enriched data is further used by multiple data consumers for a variety of applications such as improving user-experience with A/B tests, tracking application performance metrics, tuning algorithms. This causes redundant reads of the dataset by multiple batch jobs and incurs heavy processing costs. To avoid this, we have developed a config driven, centralized, managed platform, on top of Apache Flink, that reads this data once and routes it to multiple streams based on dynamic configuration. This has resulted in improved computation efficiency, reduced costs and reduced operational overhead.
Stream processing at scale while ensuring that the production systems are scalable and cost-efficient brings interesting challenges. In this talk, we will share about how we leverage Apache Flink to achieve this, the challenges we faced and our learnings while running one of the largest Flink application at Netflix.

To avoid this, we have developed a config driven, centralized, managed platform, on top of Apache Flink, that reads this data once and routes it to multiple streams based on dynamic configuration. This has resulted in improved computation efficiency, reduced costs and reduced operational overhead.
Stream processing at scale while ensuring that the production systems are scalable and cost-efficient brings interesting challenges. In this talk, we will share about how we leverage Apache Flink to achieve this, the challenges we faced and our learnings while running one of the largest Flink application at Netflix.

Scalable and Reliable Logging at Pinterest
Pinterest uses Kafka as the central logging system to collect over 120 billion messages per day from thousands of hosts. They developed Singer, a lightweight logging agent, to reliably upload application logs to Kafka with low latency. Data is then moved from Kafka to cloud storage using systems like Secor and Merced that ensure exactly-once processing. Maintaining high log quality requires monitoring for anomalies, auditing new features, and catching issues both before and after releases through automated tooling.

Temporal Event Neural Networks (TENNs), developed by BrainChip, represent a novel and highly efficient state-space network. TENNs demonstrate exceptional proficiency in handling multi-dimensional streaming data, facilitating advancements in object detection, action recognition, speech enhancement and language model/sequence generation. Through the utilization of polynomial-based continuous convolutions, TENNs streamline models, expedite training processes and significantly diminish memory requirements, achieving notable reductions of up to 50x in parameters and 5,000x in energy consumption compared to prevailing methodologies like transformers.

zkStudyClub - LatticeFold: A Lattice-based Folding Scheme and its Application...
Folding is a recent technique for building efficient recursive SNARKs. Several elegant folding protocols have been proposed, such as Nova, Supernova, Hypernova, Protostar, and others. However, all of them rely on an additively homomorphic commitment scheme based on discrete log, and are therefore not post-quantum secure. In this work we present LatticeFold, the first lattice-based folding protocol based on the Module SIS problem. This folding protocol naturally leads to an efficient recursive lattice-based SNARK and an efficient PCD scheme. LatticeFold supports folding low-degree relations, such as R1CS, as well as high-degree relations, such as CCS. The key challenge is to construct a secure folding protocol that works with the Ajtai commitment scheme. The difficulty, is ensuring that extracted witnesses are low norm through many rounds of folding. We present a novel technique using the sumcheck protocol to ensure that extracted witnesses are always low norm no matter how many rounds of folding are used. Our evaluation of the final proof system suggests that it is as performant as Hypernova, while providing post-quantum security.

The typical problem in product engineering is not bad strategy, so much as “no strategy”. This leads to confusion, lack of motivation, and incoherent action. The next time you look for a strategy and find an empty space, instead of waiting for it to be filled, I will show you how to fill it in yourself. If you’re wrong, it forces a correction. If you’re right, it helps create focus. I’ll share how I’ve approached this in the past, both what works and lessons for what didn’t work so well.
Mutation Testing for Task-Oriented Chatbots
Conversational agents, or chatbots, are increasingly used to access all sorts of services using natural language. While open-domain chatbots - like ChatGPT - can converse on any topic, task-oriented chatbots - the focus of this paper - are designed for specific tasks, like booking a flight, obtaining customer support, or setting an appointment. Like any other software, task-oriented chatbots need to be properly tested, usually by defining and executing test scenarios (i.e., sequences of user-chatbot interactions). However, there is currently a lack of methods to quantify the completeness and strength of such test scenarios, which can lead to low-quality tests, and hence to buggy chatbots.
To fill this gap, we propose adapting mutation testing (MuT) for task-oriented chatbots. To this end, we introduce a set of mutation operators that emulate faults in chatbot designs, an architecture that enables MuT on chatbots built using heterogeneous technologies, and a practical realisation as an Eclipse plugin. Moreover, we evaluate the applicability, effectiveness and efficiency of our approach on open-source chatbots, with promising results.

This slide deck presents DLHT, a concurrent in-memory hashtable. Despite efforts to optimize hashtables, that go as far as sacrificing core functionality, state-of-the-art designs still incur multiple memory accesses per request and block request processing in three cases. First, most hashtables block while waiting for data to be retrieved from memory. Second, open-addressing designs, which represent the current state-of-the-art, either cannot free index slots on deletes or must block all requests to do so. Third, index resizes block every request until all objects are copied to the new index. Defying folklore wisdom, DLHT forgoes open-addressing and adopts a fully-featured and memory-aware closed-addressing design based on bounded cache-line-chaining. This design offers lock-free index operations and deletes that free slots instantly, (2) completes most requests with a single memory access, (3) utilizes software prefetching to hide memory latencies, and (4) employs a novel non-blocking and parallel resizing. In a commodity server and a memory-resident workload, DLHT surpasses 1.6B requests per second and provides 3.5x (12x) the throughput of the state-of-the-art closed-addressing (open-addressing) resizable hashtable on Gets (Deletes).

The Ugly • Can’t easily change connection to Crimes Database, no direct connection to source (connected through ArcCatalog -then built through Model Builder- then exported out as a Python Script). • No custom alerts or in depth logging capabilities. • Not user friendly for non-python users.
