2. Authority:-
Authority is a legitimate right to give orders
and get orders obeyed. The rights enjoyed by a
Person are not unlimited.
3. 1. The right is given by a superior to the subordinate. It puts the persons in a
position to regulate the behavior of his subordinates.

3. Authority is always positional
4. Authority influences the behavior of subordinates so that right things are
done at right times.
5. Authority enables superior in deciding what is to be done, when it is to be

Authority is based upon the rank or position of
the person and his authority is given by law.
Authority includes compulsion of rules and
regulations of duties of the office. Ex:
Authority passes from father to son

Authority has its source in the acceptance of
subordinates
Authority has its source in technical
competence of superior. If he has no
knowledge or skills, he can exercise no
authority on others
People follow some persons because of their
charismatic personalities and not because of
any other factor
6. Delegation:-
Delegation is things done by others by giving them responsibility.
“Delegation takes place when one person gives another the right to perform
work on his behalf and his name, and the second person accepts a
corresponding duty or obligation to do what is required of him.”

7. 1. Delegation takes place when a manager grants some of his powers
to subordinates.
2. Delegation occurs only whenn the person delegating the authority himself
has the authority i.e. manager must possess what he wants to delegate.
3. Only a part of authority is delegated to subordinates.
4. A manager delegating authority can reduce, enhance or take it back.
5.Only authority is delegated not the responsibility.
