2. Idea Generation
• Select a song/track that you like [or don’t like!]
• Generate three ideas for music videos employing styles, techniques
and conventions that we have looked at in previous sessions. Explore
how you could interpret the song differently using different methods
• You can add any extra info you think is relevant, images, mind maps,
etc
• For quick mind maps you could use bubbl.us to generate these
4. Idea one
Artic Monkeys; Tranquility Base Hotel and Casino – The Unltracheese:
• For the shooting of this music video, I'd like the picture on my music video to appear
like it's been shot on old film – which will provide the product with home made vibe.
On top of this, I'd like the composition of each shot to be to be framed like in
photographic way – e.g. if you paused anywhere in the video, the single frame would
still be able to hold as picture on it's own....
• Furthermore, I'd also like include a lot of shots following the main character around in
either a wide shot or mid shot of the main character – as they do in the official Artic
Monkey songs, such as:
• https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mXuUAtAtMtM
• https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6366dxFf-Os
• The star is this music video is thinking over his past ("still got pictures of friends on
the wall.." - as in those times are now over,) and thinking about all his failed dreams
("rocket launch..." - almost like referring to when he was much younger and dreamed
of becoming an astronaut.)
• Our main character will be lip synching to the song, whilst having his
headphones – as it's music video.
5. Idea two
Artic Monkeys; Suck It and See – Piledriver Waltz:
• For the shooting of this music video, I'd like the picture on my music video
to appear like it's been shot on old film – which will provide the product
with home made vibe. On top of this, I'd like the composition of each shot to be
to be framed like in photographic way – e.g. if you paused anywhere in the

6. Idea three
Artic Monkeys; AM – Do I Wanna Know?:
• For the shooting of this music video, I'd like the picture on my music video
to appear like it's been shot on old film – which will provide the product
with home made vibe. On top of this, I'd like the composition of each shot to be
to be framed like in photographic way – e.g. if you paused anywhere in the
video, the single frame would still be able to hold as picture on it's own....

• https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6366dxFf-Os
• The music will be a music video of a guy going home, thinking over about the girl
he just met – an idea that can be taken from some of the lyrics; "do I
wanna know?" - he's thinking; "If this feeling flows both way" - his feelings for
her.
8. Summary
5 strengths of your ideas you could use:
• It'll be an be an easy music video to shoot and the video effects (e.g. the film
effects,) will be easy to achieve in Premier Pro.
• The locations aren't too complicated to get to.
• The music video is very much possible/achievable to make.
• It doesn't require a huge range of cast or film crew – e.g. camera man.
• The song's not explict.
5 weaknesses of you ideas:
• I'll have to get a team out to film the music video – someone to film and then of
course the stars.
• The video content could be a bit close to or just boring.
• As this will likely be filmed in a crowd people might not like being filmed or
either get in the way of some locations.
• With some of the locations I'm using (such as the bridge) - I may find it difficult
to capture a diverse range of interesting shots – due to either health and safety
or just things blocking the way of the camera.
9. Final idea – artist/title/info
• Artic Monkeys; AM – Do I Wanna Know?
• The Artic Monkeys started out as a small band from Sheffiled and
was later alowed a bigger platform through the intenet. After they
were handing out free demos of their music and someone (not
the actual band itself,) through that they rose in popularity and
eventually got sighned by Domino Records in 2005...
• The lead singer of Artic Monkeys - Alex Turner, has been part of
another band called The Last Shadow Puppets and played his own
songs for the music used in Submarine, however he's mainly been
part of the Artic Monkeys as whole.
• Indierock/post-punk rival/garage rock – all according to Google.
10. Final idea – track summary
• The song is talking from the perspective of a guy talking about a girl –
which can be seen in both the lyrics and the song's title;
• "Do I wanna know?" - it's a question, as if it was being adressed to somone.
• "Crawling back to you" - the word "you" again, proves that the song is being is
being addressed to somone.
• "On the cusp of trying to kiss you" - He's talking to someone he likes.
• He's struggling to move on/away from this girl – as can be seen in the
constant repition of "Crawling back to you."
11. Final idea – your idea
For my music video, I will be creating a music video much like the
music video for "Four Starts Out of Five" by Artic Monkeys – only this
time based around the setting of York and with romance intrest –
unlike the music video it's based off (-both songs are also produced by
the same band...)
For my music video, I'd like it have this old film look to it – with a
strong saturation of colours – mainly consisting of a light blue with
hinst of yellow, with flares of other colours (from lights) being put into
the mix to give the picture this beautiful look to it. On top of shooting
each frame and shot like trying to compose a photograph – giving each
shot a strong purpose.
12. Final idea – techniques and styles
To help give the video its colour grade and film based
apperance – I'll be playing around with it a lot in post (in
softwares such as Premier Pro.) The reason for this is being
because the camera I'll be shooting on (weather it be my own
or one I borrow from the college,) won't caputre that film like
look to it, nor the colour grade and/or saturation to it. On top
of this, it will also ensure that I can go back in post if thos
whole look doesn't work out or just gives me more creative
freedom.

14. Potential research targets
• I'll have to find out more details on how long I can and where I can
take out the cameras.
• How to apply an old film effect and colour grad to the video of my
product.
• How to take intresting shot types to keep my video constanly
appealing.
• How to use or create intresting tranisitions to prevent the video from
becoming choppy.
• Who will be avalible to star in and shoot the music video.
