Audience Justification Drama Primary Because of the films mostly female cast the issues the actors go through in the film will resonate with young girl’s as it will be relatable because they may of experienced it or being going through an experience. Gore Secondary Gore is would be more enjoyable to the secondary audience as the misfortune of characters can be found entertaining as men are more desensitised to violence as they are already fans of horror movies which often include this amount of violence. Monsters Secondary The whole idea of monsters links into the theme of gore and such as these are the monsters that will be causing the violence that the males would enjoy because they are already accustom to monster movies and are fans of them which is why they are watching the Descent. Actors/Stars Secondary Because sex sells the males may watch The Descent purely for the all female cast of young attractive women because the cast has been specifically chosen to appeal to a lot of different tastes and preferences in women. Adventure Additional The additional audience would enjoy the adventure because it matches their lifestyle and hobbies and enjoy this kind of sport. Because they can relate to it they will become more invested as it something they are actively involved in. Director Secondary Knowledge of the director would be important to a male because they would be aware of their previous works because they are horror fans and would want to see the film because of the director and his previous work. Narrative Primary Females are more likely to become invested within the story as it consists of drama that may be relatable or at least interesting enough to hold their attention. Because the drama is relatable they can understand the characters psyche and mind frame further engaging them within the story. Extreme Sports Additional The additional audience would enjoy the adventure because it matches their lifestyle and hobbies and enjoy this kind of sport. Because this is something they do in their spare time seeing it on the screen will engage them into the film more.
- 2. Violence Secondary The secondary audience is watching the film for its gore and monsters so therefore the violence is just a further extension of this theme that a male would watch this film for. Because of this the secondary audience is likely to become more engaged for this reason.
