Music magazine and
audience analysis
Mixmag
Age range and gender of audience
• The median age of mixmag reader is 24. Mixmag readers are the
opinion formers and leaders in clubbing. They are the ones who
make the happening music happen and the cool products cool within
their peer group.
• They are the first to recommend a new music and they are also trend
makers. They are also the best informed about top DJ’s and
upcoming music.
• According to a Mixmag readerprofile,72% of the readership are male
and the rest with 28% are male. This can be indicated by the genres
of music that are usually covered in the magazine, which
stereotypically lean to males more.
Examples of favorite artists/bands
The genre that my target audience listen to are
stereotypically associated with males. As you can see
opposite, I have provided some artists that my target
audience listen to. Many of these artists are male and
that is why this genre is stereotypically seen to be for
males. Not only that, but as they are males, my male
readers will aspire to be like them. Artists like David
Guetta and Avicii are very successful artists, and my
target audience would want to know more about them
and there lifestyle so that they could be like them. This
relates to Carl Roger’s and Jacques Lacan’s theory
about the consumers wanting to be like the artists.
Types of clothes they wear
I would imagine my target audience to be dressed in
the clothing items I have presented opposite. For the
male side of Mixmag they enjoy to wear high end
brands like ralph Lauren for example. However they
don’t have a lot of these high end clothing items as the
majority of them are students and so they cannot afford
expensive things. For the female side of Mixmag which
is only 28%, they enjoy to show off their body. The
majority of them take care of their health as well as
their body as they want their body to look attractive.
They show off their bodies by wearing clothes that
show skin for example, denim shorts, crop tops, and
raving bras.
Income?
• They have a high disposable income and a high propensity to spend it on:
Nights out
Clothes
Tunes
The latest mobile and MP3 player
• Mixmag readers have good jobs. They enjoy socializing and clubbing with their
friends and are trend setters. They believe most of their readers have a high
disposable income and would spend their money on things like going out and
clothes. Mixmag is quite an expensive magazine (compared to others)Because of
this they say that 80% of their readers don’t spend money on other magazines
and don’t really watch TV especially at the weekend.
• Mixmag believe that they have readers with ABC1 in the general registrar scale.
In this case jobs will range from plumbers, teachers to unskilled workers such as
distributors.
Hobbies/interests
• Mixmag readers will often attend DJ concerts, and will enjoy
going to festivals with groups of friends.
• They also enjoy to go out socializing with friends. They enjoy to
go clubbing to party.
• Most importantly, they will enjoy to listen to music. They enjoy
genres such as EDM, DJ, and house music. They are the first to
recommend a new tune.
• They enjoy to spoil themselves and buy expensive products,
however they can’t always do this as some of them may still be
students.
