Presentations will cover recent trends and analysis in CTUs (cycle-transit users), bikes-on-board, bike parking, locating bike share with transit stations and planning efforts underway, as well as real stories from current travelers who combine active transportation and transit.

Application of Sustainable Transport in Urban Context
Sam Chow is a Director of Consulting in Arup that heads the East Asia Region Transport Consulting Group. He is a professional / chartered engineer that holds a Bachelors of Civil Engineering from Monash University in Australia as well as a Masters of Business Administration from University of Ottawa in Canada. CycleStreets is a route planning tool for cyclists that considers infrastructure quality and cyclist preferences. It often recommends alternative routes to driving routes since cycling routes can differ, taking into account factors like hills, path widths, barriers and the quality and legibility of infrastructure. Community mapping on CycleStreets and OpenStreetMap allows for collection of local knowledge about cycling conditions.

North Bristol NHS Trust is committed to sustainable development and travel. It has implemented numerous initiatives to promote more sustainable travel among staff and visitors, including expanding cycling infrastructure and promoting carpooling. Surveys track progress in shifting modes of transport. Future plans focus on further encouraging walking and carsharing, as well as improving facilities to support more sustainable travel choices.
Bus stop info
An interview was conducted with 11 bus commuters (5 male, 6 female) to understand their experiences and identify areas for improvement. Key findings included a lack of shelter, seating, and real-time arrival information at bus stops. Additionally, bus numbers are not always clearly displayed, routes are difficult to understand, and there are no complaint systems. Suggested improvements included displaying accurate arrival times, adding shelters and seating at stops, and improving accessibility.

This document discusses Ireland's integrated ticketing scheme called Leap Card. It provides statistics on card issuance and usage since the program launched. Over 168,000 cards have been issued, with over 9.9 million journeys taken and €17.6 million in total usage. Guidelines for Applying Right-Turn Slip Lanes
On October 14, 2014 Dr. Mason Gemar presented at the 2014 Transportation Short Course in College Station, TX. Dr. Gemar was invited to present on the development of design guidelines for applying right-turn slip lanes during the Design session. The content presented was based on a TxDOT-sponsored research project completed at CTR under the direction of Dr. Jen Duthie. The project involved investigating the design and implementation of right-turn slip lanes through a literature review and focus group meetings with TxDOT personnel, culminating in the creation of design guidelines and standard drawings for potential inclusion in TxDOT’s Roadway Design Manual. North Bristol NHS Trust is committed to sustainable development and travel. It has implemented numerous initiatives to promote more sustainable travel among staff and visitors, including expanding cycling infrastructure and promoting carpooling. Surveys track progress in shifting modes of transport. Future plans focus on further encouraging walking and carsharing, as well as improving facilities to support more sustainable travel choices.
Bus stop info
An interview was conducted with 11 bus commuters (5 male, 6 female) to understand their experiences and identify areas for improvement. Key findings included a lack of shelter, seating, and real-time arrival information at bus stops. Additionally, bus numbers are not always clearly displayed, routes are difficult to understand, and there are no complaint systems. Suggested improvements included displaying accurate arrival times, adding shelters and seating at stops, and improving accessibility.

Guidelines for Applying Right-Turn Slip Lanes
On October 14, 2014 Dr. Mason Gemar presented at the 2014 Transportation Short Course in College Station, TX. Dr. Gemar was invited to present on the development of design guidelines for applying right-turn slip lanes during the Design session. The content presented was based on a TxDOT-sponsored research project completed at CTR under the direction of Dr. Jen Duthie. The project involved investigating the design and implementation of right-turn slip lanes through a literature review and focus group meetings with TxDOT personnel, culminating in the creation of design guidelines and standard drawings for potential inclusion in TxDOT’s Roadway Design Manual. Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) - Case Studies in Indian Scenario

Update from Regional Transportation Alliance
The RTA supports accelerating multimodal transportation solutions for the Western Triangle region. They have advocated for transit projects like bus rapid transit and light rail. Recently, the RTA endorsed a fully-electric, enhanced bus rapid transit (3eBRT) concept for the Durham-Orange corridor as a way to potentially accelerate transit improvements. 3eBRT could begin immediately and scale over time, offering enhanced regional connections at a lower capital cost than light rail. However, light rail remains the long term vision supported by county referendums, with environmental reviews completed. The landscape presents challenges from funding limits, but the RTA framework considers mobility and connectivity goals as well as risks and uncertainties.

Is there a future for railways in the Maritimes?
Railways in the Maritimes face many challenges including collapsing commodity markets, disjointed jurisdictions, shortsighted policies, distorted transportation markets that favor roads over rail, and negative perceptions of rail. However, there are also new opportunities for rail including intermodal freight, commuter rail, transit-oriented development, and using technology like variable tolling and conditional trip apps to make rail more competitive. Advocates need to analyze challenges and opportunities, build partnerships, and inspire people with a vision of how strategic investment in rail could benefit taxpayers and the region's future.
Caltrain emu procurement sept 2014

8 7-14 electric multiple unit procurement update

ATS-16: Making Data Count, Josh Roll
This document summarizes the Central Lane MPO's regional bicycle count program. It discusses why they collect bicycle traffic counts, how the counts are conducted, and what is being learned from the data. Some of the key findings are that crash rates are 2-4 times higher for bicycles than motor vehicles when normalized by estimated bicycle miles traveled, and that injury risk is much higher on arterial roads compared to local streets.
