An atomic bomb is an uncontrolled nuclear fission device that releases large amounts of energy through chain reactions of uranium or plutonium. The development, known as the Manhattan Project, began in 1939 with contributions from prominent scientists like Einstein. There are two main types of bombs: 'Little Boy' which used uranium-235 and operated on a gun-type mechanism, and 'Fat Man' which used plutonium-239 and operated on an implosion-type mechanism, both causing devastating environmental effects.
